Zero Motorcycles Inc.: Electrical System › 12v/24v/48v Battery
Zero Motorcycles Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 20, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 128. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Zero Motorcycles Inc. (Zero) is recalling certain model year 2013 FX motorcycles manufactured January 28, 2013, through May 21, 2013; and model year 2013 XU motorcycles manufactured January 16, 2013, through May 20, 2013. A manufacturing defect with the sealant material in the battery may allow water to penetrate the battery and contact the cells.
The risk
Water penetration into the battery may lead to corrosion of the cells, possibly resulting in a rapid temperature increase and off-gassing of the cells' electrolyte which may cause a burn to the rider.
The remedy
Zero will notify owners and dealers will replace the battery modules, free of charge. The recall began on June 26, 2013. Owners may contact Zero motorcycles at 1-888-786-9376.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V257000.
