NHTSA campaign 13V055000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Prevost Cars, Inc.: Steering › Linkages › Drag › Link › Connection

Prevost Cars, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Feb 15, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 6,120. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Prevost is recalling certain model year 1993 thru 2013 model H3-40, H3-41, H3-45, and H3-45 VIP Prevost coaches manufactured from December 1993 through February 12, 2013. Under certain conditions, the drag link collar position combined with an over torque of the collar retaining bolt may create a contact with the pitman arm.

The risk

This contact may cause the turnbuckle to fracture without warning. If the drag link turnbuckle breaks while the vehicle is in use, stability and vehicle control may be lost, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Prevost will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace any affected drag link, free of charge. The recall began on April 18, 2013. Owners may contact Prevost at 1-418-883-2888.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V055000.
