Navistar, Inc.: Service Brakes
Navistar, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Feb 20, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 3,226. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Navistar is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Workhorse Custom Chassis W42 and W62 vehicles, manufactured from July 18, 2011, through July 12, 2012, and equipped with hydraulic brakes. The brake fluid level indicator (FLI) may not properly detect a low brake fluid level situation and warn the driver.
The risk
Without a warning, the driver may be unaware that the brake fluid level is low. A low brake fluid level may reduce the available braking force which could lengthen the required stopping distance and increase the risk of a crash.
The remedy
Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the FLI switch free of charge. The safety recall began on April 26, 2013. Owners may contact Navistar at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's recall campaign number is 51301-C.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V054000.
