NHTSA campaign 12V451000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Jayco, Inc.: Electrical System

Jayco, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Sep 14, 2012 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 1,596. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Jayco, Inc., (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2008-2009 and 2011 Greyhawk Class C motorhomes, model year 2008-2011 Melbourne Class C motorhomes, and 2008-2010 Octane Sport Utility travel trailers manufactured from May 21, 2007, through September 10, 2010, equipped with Iota-brand transfer switches. These trailers may have an improper electrical connection at the buss bar on the affected transfer switches. This improper connection may lead to overheating and melting of the transfer switch.

The risk

Overheating and melting of the transfer switch increases the risk of a fire.

The remedy

Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will replace the transfer switch, free of charge. The recall began on October 10, 2012. Owners may contact Jayco at 1-800-283-8267.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 12V451000.
