Paccar Incorporated: Power Train › Driveline
Paccar Incorporated reported this defect to federal regulators on Aug 20, 2012 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 535. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Paccar is recalling certain model year 2013 kenworth T400, T600, T700, T800, and W900 vehicles, manufactured from July 18, 2012, through August 10, 2012. Cap screws securing the main driveline to the forward rear axle and cap screws on the inter-axle driveline may not have been properly torqued.
The risk
Fasteners which are not properly torqued to specification can result in the driveline separating from the vehicle, disabling the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash. The separated component could also become a road hazard.
The remedy
Paccar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and re-torque the each of the affected fasteners, free of charge. The safety recall began on September 7, 2012. Owners may contact Kenworth at 1-425-828-5440.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 12V407000.
