Dutchmen Manufacturing, Inc.: Equipment › Recreational Vehicle/Trailer › Lpg Systems › Lines and Fittings

Dutchmen Manufacturing, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jul 31, 2012 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 87. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Dutchmen is recalling certain model year 2013 Coleman 192 and Dutchmen 196 recreational vehicles manufactured from April 12, 2012, through July 9, 2012. These vehicles have been manufactured with the propane line in close proximity to the rear axle hanger which could be damaged by the rear axle hanger bolt during travel.

The risk

If this occurs, a leak could develop, and in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire and/or explosion, increasing the risk of personal injury or property damage.

The remedy

Dutchmen will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, replace and re-route the propane line, free of charge. The safety recall began on August 18,7, 2012. Owners may contact Dutchmen at 1-574-537-0700.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 12V365000.
