Trans Tech Bus: Seat Belts › Front › Anchorage

Trans Tech Bus reported this defect to federal regulators on Mar 6, 2012 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 11. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

TRANSPORTATION COLLABORATIVE, INC. (TCI) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 AND 2012 TRANS TECH MODEL SST SCHOOL BUSES MANUFACTURED OF FORD E350 AND E450 ECONOLINE CHASSIS. THE FIBERGLASS INSTALLED FAILED TO MEET DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS, CAUSING THE INSUFFICIENT TORQUE VALVES AT THE UPPER TORSO MOUNTING POINT. AS SUCH, THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 210, "SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY ANCHORAGES."

The risk

IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE SHOULDER RESTRAINT COULD DETACH FROM THE B-PILLAR ANCHORAGE, INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY TO THE OCCUPANT.

The remedy

TCI WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS AND REPAIR KITS OR THE BUS MAY BE TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED REPAIR FACILITY, AT NO COST TO THE OWNER. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 15, 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TCI AT 1-845-988-0419.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 12V090000.
