Bci (bus & Coach International) reported this defect to federal regulators on Sep 4, 2008 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 72. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

BCI IS RECALLING 72 MY 2007-2008 FALCON 45 BUSES. THESE VEHICLES HAVE THE POTENTIAL FOR AN OUT-OF-LEVEL CONDITION LEADING TO POSSIBLE TRANSVERSE AXLE LOADING.

The risk

TRANSVERSE LOAD CAN CREATE INCREASED AXLE LOAD AT ONE SIDE CAUSING TIRE WEAR WHICH, IF UNADDRESSED, COULD CAUSE TIRE FAILURE WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE LEFT FRONT LEVELING VALVE ASSEMBLY AND REPLUMB THE FRONT AIR BAGS TO RIGHT FRONT LEVELING VALVE ONLY. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING SEPTEMBER 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BCI AT 1-877-452-9224.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 08V449000.
