NHTSA campaign 07V225000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Country Coach Inc: Exterior Lighting

Country Coach Inc reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 5, 2007 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 605. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD (FMVSS) NO. 108, "LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT." THESE MOTOR HOMES WERE EQUIPPED WITH MORE THAN THREE AMBER IDENTIFICATION LAMPS LOCATED AT THE TOP AND FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. ALSO, THE SIDE MARKER LIGHTS IN THE COMBINATION HEADLIGHT AND TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLIES DO NOT MEET THE MINIMUM PHOTOMETRIC VALUE AT 45 DEGREES AS SPECIFIED IN THE STANDARD.

The risk

THE FIVE IDENTIFICATION LIGHTS COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE CONFUSION TO ON-COMING MOTORISTS WHO ARE USED TO OBSERVING THREE IDENTIFICATION LIGHTS. THE INADEQUACY OF THE FRONT AND REAR SIDE MARKER LIGHTS COULD AFFECT VISIBILITY OF THE MOTOR HOME DURING HOURS OF DARKNESS THAT COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN A CRASH.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE TWO EXTRA IDENTIFICATION LAMPS AND INSTALL FOUR SIDE MARKER LIGHTS, ONE AT EACH CORNER, FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT MARCH 31, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT COUNTRY COACH AT 800-547-8015.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 07V225000.
