Dutchmen Manufacturing, Inc.: Equipment › Recreational Vehicle/Trailer › Lpg Systems › Furnace

Dutchmen Manufacturing, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 22, 2006 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 1,939. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

ON CERTAIN RECREATIONAL TRAILERS, A FURNACE VENT WAS NOT INSTALLED. THE LACK OF AN EXHAUST VENT ALLOWS FURNACE COMBUSTION PRODUCTS CONTAINING CARBON MONOXIDE FUMES TO VENT INTO THE TRAILER.

The risk

THIS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO THE OCCUPANTS OF THE TRAILER.

The remedy

OWNERS WILL BE INSTRUCTED TO VISUALLY CHECK FOR THE PRESENCE OF THE EXHAUST VENT ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. IF THE EXHAUST VENT IS NOT PRESENT OR IF THERE ARE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, THE OWNER WILL BE INSTRUCTED NOT TO USE THE FURNACE AND TO TAKE THEIR TRAILER TO THE NEAREST DUTCHMEN DEALER OR SERVICE CENTER FOR REPAIR. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 31, 2006. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT DUTCHMEN AT 1-219-534-1224.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 06V491000.
