Wheeled Coach Industries: Equipment › Other › Labels

Wheeled Coach Industries reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 17, 2005 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 110. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

CERTAIN AMBULANCES BUILT ON FORD E350 AND CHEVROLET GMT610 VAN. FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 110, "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS." THESE AMBULANCES HAVE THE INCORRECT OR MISSING TIRE AND LOADING INFORMATION PLACARDS IN THE DRIVER'S DOOR JAMB. THIS INFORMATION WILL AID IN LOADING THE AMBULANCE TO AVOID EXCEEDING THE GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT RATING.

The risk

A MISPRINTED LABEL WOULD LEAD TO IMPROPER VEHICLE LOADING SPECIFICATIONS OR TIRE INFLATION WHICH COULD RESULT IN A TIRE FAILURE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

The remedy

OWNERS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH NEW TIRE INFORMATION PLACARDS AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. AT THE CUSTOMER'S OPTION, A DEALER CAN PERFORM THE INSTALLATION FOR THEM. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON NOVEMBER 29, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT WHEELED COACH AT 1-800-628-8178.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 05V528000.
