Carriage, Inc reported this defect to federal regulators on May 4, 2004 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 381. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
ON CERTAIN FIFTH WHEEL TRAILERS, THE LIQUID PROPANE (LP) GAS SUPPLY HOSE AT THE REFRIGERATOR WAS INCORRECTLY POSITIONED RESULTING IN INSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE SUPPLY HOSE AND THE REFRIGERATOR BURNER BOX/RETURN LINE ASSEMBLY.
The risk
HEAT FROM THE BURNER BOX/RETURN LINE ASSEMBLY COULD CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE LP GAS HOSE. THIS DAMAGE COULD LEAD TO FAILURE OF THE HOSE RESULTING IN A FIRE OR PERSONAL INJURY.
The remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPOSITION AND SECURE THE HOSE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON JUNE 4, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT CARRIAGE AT 1-800-895-0108.
