NHTSA campaign 03V530000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Accubuilt, Inc.: Seats

Accubuilt, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 12, 2003 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 32. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

CERTAIN MULTI-PASSENGER HANDICAP-ACCESSIBLE VANS BUILT ON FORD E250 AND E350 CHASSIS FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 225, "CHILD RESTRAINT ANCHORAGE SYSTEMS." THESE VEHICLES LACK THE APPROPRIATE NUMBER OF CHILD RESTRAINT ANCHORAGES.

The risk

APPLICABLE CHILD SEATS WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO UTILIZE THESE SUPPLEMENTAL ANCHORAGES. IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE SEAT OCCUPANT MAY NOT BE PROPERLY RESTRAINED, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY.

The remedy

ACCUBUILT WILL MODIFY OR REPLACE ONE OR MORE OF THE SEATS TO INCLUDE THE APPROPRIATE NUMBER OF SEATING POSITIONS WITH CHILD RESTRAINT ANCHORAGE SYSTEMS. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING FEBRUARY 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT ACCUBUILT AT 1-888-242-4782.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 03V530000.
