NHTSA campaign 03V190000 · Part 573 safety recall report

R-Vision, Inc.: Fuel System, Gasoline › Delivery › Hoses, Lines/Piping, and Fittings

R-Vision, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on May 8, 2003 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 134. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

ON CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES, THE CHASSIS FUEL RETURN LINE, WHICH IS TAPPED TO SUPPLY FUEL TO THE GENERATOR, HAS BEEN FOUND TO HAVE PRESSURES THAT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM ALLOWED BY THE GENERATOR MANUFACTURER. AS A RESULT, IF THE GENERATOR IS OPERATED AT THE SAME TIME THE CHASSIS ENGINE IS RUNNING, EXCESS FUEL COULD BE DELIVERED TO THE GENERATOR, CREATING A POTENTIAL FOR A GENERATOR STALL AND POSSIBLE FUEL SPILL.

The risk

IN THE EVENT OF A FUEL SPILL, A FIRE COULD OCCUR.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL INSTALL AN APPROVED KIT THAT DRAWS THE GENERATOR FUEL SUPPLY DIRECTLY FROM THE FUEL TANK. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MAY 5, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT R-VISION AT 1-574-268-2111.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 03V190000.
