I began receiving the Service Electronic Braking System and ABS warnings. In turn, those warnings disable cruise control and traction control. I tow heavy with the pickup and need the systems to work. My understanding is that this is a common problem with this model year. In turn I will not repair this issue on my dime and should be addressed by Ram due to faulty engineering. Either the system will work or it will cause a problem on the road.

Consistent and predictive Failure of Anti-lock brake control module (68143491-AA /68143491-AB) in 2018 Ram 2500/3500 Trucks. Nationwide shortage of OEM Replacement Parts leading dealers to hoard exclusively for customers for whom repairs are to be made. Extremely difficult to find a dealer willing to sell brake control module, if they have one in stock, to anyone. Instead, dealers recognize there is up to a 6 month waiting period for restocking and therefore taking advantage of those who chose to utilize independent mechanics. Dodge/Ram is acutely aware of shortage, as well as failure of part and has chosen to not warranty or conduct a voluntary recall. Every Ram mechanic and parts office I spoke with acknowledge EVERY 2018 Ram 2500/3500 will fail. The subject vehicle had under 31,000 miles. During failure, the vehicle loses its' anti-lock functions, traction control, defeats cruise control, dash continually lights up with error message 'SERVICE ELECTRONIC BRAKING SYSTEM' then 'SERVICE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM' while simultaneously and constantly generating an audible warning over and over again during the operation of the vehicle. Price gouging for part, if you can find a dealer that 1) has the part in stock, and 2) willing to sell the part can run between $180.26 - $525.02 (MSRP $262.00). Part is in use for year models 2012-2018. I personally paid $525.02 (and grateful a dealer sold the part to me over the objections of the parts manager), drove 4 hours to obtain, plus install

6 months ago, the ABS brakes and stability control warning lights started to randomly light up on the dashboard. Sometimes I would not see a repeat of this for a week or more. The warning lights started to appear more frequently, and now are on all the time. When on, the cruise control does not operate. I took it to a Ram dealer near me, and the service department confirmed it is a defective ABS pump, known as the HCU module. They then informed me that Chrysler has no inventory of this part! I asked how long to get one, and was told some people have been waiting for over a year! The part, # 68143491AB, appears to be readily available online from a multitude of vendors. My truck has only 34,000 miles on it, and no ABS, no Stability control, and no cruise control is a safety issue! Please HELP!

Subject: Investigation Request: ABS Fault Code C0020 in 2018 Ram Trucks Dear NHTSA Team, I write to bring your attention to a critical safety issue affecting numerous 2018 Ram trucks. The problem revolves around the faulty ABS HCU, This fault leads to intermittent or complete loss of ABS functionality, posing significant risks to the safety of vehicle occupants and others on the road. The ABS system plays a crucial role in preventing wheel lock-up and maintaining steering control during braking. However, the faulty ABS unit compromises the effectiveness of the ABS system, particularly in emergency situations and adverse driving conditions. The inability to maintain stable braking performance raises the potential for accidents and reduces the overall safety of the affected vehicles. In light of these safety concerns, I kindly request the NHTSA to launch a thorough investigation into the ABS, HCU/Module in 2018 Ram trucks. The investigation should aim to identify the underlying cause of this issue, assess its prevalence, and evaluate the severity of its impact on vehicle safety.Furthermore, I urge the NHTSA to engage in collaboration with Ram Trucks, the vehicle manufacturer, to ensure that affected owners receive timely notifications about the issue. It is essential to establish a process for providing necessary repairs or replacements to affected vehicles at no cost to the owners. This proactive approach will help mitigate the safety risks associated with the ABS units. As an or

I've been dealing with the ABS light going on & off with alarm constantly chiming for almost 2 years now. The anti lock breaking is compromised as is my cruise control. I can no longer operate the vehicle safely and I've had to park my truck permanently, which has created many economic and logistical issues for me and my family. I work 60+ a week to support a 2 and 4 year old child. The abs modulator and hydraulic unit need to be replaced according to the dealership (Ferman Dodge, Holiday, Florida) and (2) other non-dealer mechanics (Hilton Automotive, Ocala and Tuffy Spring Hill) have stated the same when I sought a 2nd and 3rd opinion. I don't understand why there's not a recall? Please, advise to the steps the NHTSA is taking to resolve this ongoing issue. I'm still waiting on the part/ parts to become available and I've been waiting for over a year now. I've reached out to every possible avenue that I know of to source the parts, to include aftermarket non-Mopar parts, and I'm being told they are still on back order. I can not afford to sell my truck in it's current state, as its currently "unrepairable" and that has severely diminished its value. I should not have to absorb that loss because of Dodge's negligence. Dodge needs to be held accountable for this, I purchased a very expensive truck in search or reliability and safety and I have received neither of those things. Please advise, my family cant afford to have a $50,000 lawn ornament any longer. Thank you!!! -[XXX]

The ABS Module has failed, only 20k miles on the truck. RAM advises they have 10 trucks locally waiting on the same part, and advise a national shortage as this part had a manufacturing problem. They will not provide a part # to replace it as they don't know what it will be. Cruise control will not work either due to the safety issue of the problem. I have a safety concern about the use of the vehicle now and Ram cannot fix or private garages can not get the part either.

ABS brake sensor and traction control sensor issues. Sensor continues to trip and then go away. I have no idea if the systems are actually working properly or not it may just be a wire, wire harness or the module. When is does trip it ony does so for a short peroid. I drove 20miles yesterday and it tripped and seem to reset it self 30+ times in that short drive. The constant bonging was distracting. Also this keeps the cruise control from working. Abs and traction control indicator lamps have an intermittent flash and alarm that alert at random times. This is dangerous as this not only disables the cruise control but the traction control is then disabled as well as the abs system causing brakes to lock up. Mopar and ram refuse to fix the issue and it costs consumers $1200 for parts and labor that may or not fix the issue. This is reported in many forum pages as well with all having the same complaints and stuck with the repair or not due to unreasonable cost associated with a possible fix. This should be an immediate recall as it is a safety concern even more so than an airbag issue. I cannot fathom a government agency responsible for safety to not mandate this as a recall.

2018 RAM 2500 ABS module failure in 9/22. Dealer diagnosed & said part was on back order until 12/22. I have called the dealership multiple times checking on availability of the replacement part & each time I am told a different ship date with the current ship date a year out from the start of the problem. RAM seems to be unconcerned their product is endangering their customers with ABS failures which, unless I'm mistaken is a required feature on vehicles. The warning lights & "chimes" are constantly going off which is a distraction for the safe operation of this motor vehicle. The fact this is a know issue & the "fix" in my case is a year out is unacceptable. This component(s) have already been replaced by a recall & now failed is not acceptable. Through online searches, this is a known problem that has drug out too long & posing a risk to the drivers & passengers of these trucks & the traveling public that shares the road with these trucks.

The ABS and Traction Control light intermittently displaying a fault. Cruise is not available when the fault occurs. The Ram forums have countless number of reports with regards to ABS issue with low mileage trucks. 2018 RAM 2500 truck only has 16.7k miles and I purchased it new. I contacted Dodge and the ABS module and HCU module are not available until August. The dealer wants to charge $200 to look into it. I verified the vehicle speed sensors, wiring and connectors have no physical damage. Yesterday we took the truck out for about 20 miles and the light stayed off the whole time. Today I took it out and within 1 mile the lights started flashing. Connected NT301 CAN OBDII & EOBD code reader and no codes are displayed. On line forums indicating dealer repairs are temporary and have cost $1200-$1500 for repair. This needs to be addressed by the manufacture. On wet roads and on snow and ice this would be an issue if emergency stop is attempted locking the brakes.

Service Brakes

The ABS and HCU modules have failed multiple times now. This leads to a loss of braking power and notifications of service braking system, a loss of traction control, and poor braking performance. The dealership is currently replacing the parts for the second time. The vehicle only has 37,000 miles and the ABS module has only worked for half of that. When the ABS module begins to fail, braking becomes more difficult, cruise control stops working, and the traction control system does not work. This leads to dangerous driving conditions in rain and on wet roads and I will not allow my family to ride with me if the system begins alerting due to the risks of crashing.

For about 8 months, our 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 has had interment ABS and HCU warning lights and the notification to "Service electronic braking system" followed by "Service antilock brake system". This may occur for a period of hours or seconds and disables our trucks ABS, traction control, cruise control and other systems. When checked, the truck has no stored fault codes. When this first occurred, I went to the dealer where the truck was purchased and inquired about replacement ABS and HCU modules and was informed that none were available. After subsequent visits and internet research, I found TSB#C0020-01, "ABS Pump Motor", that directs replacement of the ABS/HCU modules, and directs that the replacement parts will be provided by a "STAR system". We have had three incidents that we narrowly avoided accidents, two due to the intermittent ABS failure and one due to sudden loss of traction control while pulling our trailer. It has also noted that a Class Action Lawsuit has resulted from this same issue.

Service ABS system message turns on and off continuously while driving. When the warning is active ABS is disabled. Also when the warning activates it will disable cruise control suddenly. It continues to turn on and off. Dealership diagnosed it as ABS control module. They state there are no parts to replace it with at this point in time and no ETA on when a part will be manufactured. They also stated they believe it should be a recall item as 2019-2022 models had similar issues and was recall issue. Non working ABS and sudden cut off of cruise control is a safety concern. Significant research on my part shows this is a very common issue with these vehicles. This happens without fail every time the vehicle is driven.

I had my local ram dealer pull the Diagnostic Trouble Codes and confirmed that the parts stated above, were in fact failing. NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
