As I was driving back home from the airport on [XXX] both front brakes started smoking and my vehicle became noticeably difficult to drive. At the same time an ABS brake warning light came on as well. Although the vehicle was more difficult to drive I drove slower to prevent a crash & arrive home. On [XXX] I brought my vehicle into Midas Sarasota where they diagnosed a failed brake hydraulic control unit (HCU,ABS pump). In addition Midas stated that the failed hydraulic control unit damaged both front calipers causing them to stick which is why my brakes were smoking. Midas also stated that the failed HCU caused damage to the mesh in my brake lines and that they had to be replaced. As a result of the failed HCU Midas had to install a new HCU, install new front calipers on both sides, and install new brake lines for a total cost of $1600.00 A few weeks after I had my vehicle repaired for this issue I received a recall letter from Stellantis for this issue. Since I had already had the repair completed I submitted a copy of my repair order and proof of payment to www.fcarecallreimbursement.com, Reference number [XXX]. A customer service agent - Ronald emailed me several times and reviewed by reimbursement request and stated that my claim was approved for $1342 for reimbursement. I questioned Ronald about why Stellantis would not pay for the full amount of $1600 because both front calipers and my brake lines were damaged as a result of the failed HCU unit. Ronald simply stated in
The grid heater bolt failed and fell into the intake runner. The bolt then fell into the number 6 cylinder causing engine failure. The vehicle has 73554 miles on it. The grid heater bolt failure is a known problem and has been recalled on other vehicles.
Grid Heater bolt failure. Grid heater bolt is secured by a nut below intake area. The nut on bolt melts and causes pieces and shards into cylinder #6 if not fixed immediately. This is a terrible design and expensive fix. I am 3rd person to have this problem recently amongst my friends. Metal in side motors should not be melting and or rotting into cylinders. Please see attached pictures showing melted bolt and shards in the intake area. If this is a part that needs maintenance it should be listed in the scheduled maintenance somewhere
Can not get the dealership to repair the recall c7b. Stating the parts are not available. Been several months waiting on parts and scared to drive my truck due to the danger?
My vehicle is under the Manufacturer Recall # CB4 (NHTSA Recall #24V-896) On January 1, 2025, while driving on a rural road, all the warning lights for the ABS and Traction Control systems lit up and I lost all braking power. I pushed the brake pedal to the floor, no brakes. I veered off into a field to stop the vehicle. Turned the vehicle off and back on. Still no brakes. I started to drive the vehicle to my house (3 miles away) and after a right turn the brakes locked. The Ram Recall center apologized for the incident and said I would be authorized a rental and gave me a case # but that there was no remedy for my vehicle. My 3rd call to Ram, the representative said they aren't sure if a rental is authorized, and that Ram would not cover towing my vehicle to the dealership even though the brakes are locked and cannot move. After 3 weeks of waiting, I had the vehicle towed to a local mechanic who was able to get the vehicle back on the road. I am still waiting for a remedy for my vehicle.
My ABS and electronic braking system is doing the same thing that is covered in the ABS recall just issued for other 2017 Rams but apparently my van is not covered.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving on the highway at 55 MPH and attempting to depress the brake pedal, the brake pedal went to the floorboard, and the vehicle failed to respond immediately to the brake pedal being depressed. The contact pumped the brake pedal, and the vehicle began to slow down. The ABS, brake, and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle with caution until parking at the vehicle at the residence. The contact used a scanner to diagnose the vehicle and retrieved codes for the ABS pressure and ABS Pump Motor failure. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); however, the VIN was not included. The local dealer was contacted however the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 126,000.
I was driving when m ABS system errored failure as I was preparing to haul horses. I completely lost traction behind. Accordingly my truck is now completely unsafe.
My truck is a 2017 Ram 2500 and is experiencing the same issues as those included in NHTSA Recall No. 24V-896. However my truck was produced before the April 1, 2017 range listed. I have replaced the HCU as recommended by the dealer on [XXX] at my own cost and this did not resolve the issue. The dealer says the control module is faulty, but Chrysler will not provide the part as they say the HCU I purchased is in the Faulty range also but they say that even though the part I purchased to correct the issue is under recall, my truck is not and they have not responded to my request to correct the issue. This is a safety concern as it affects ABS, TSC, Parking Assist sensors and most importantly prevents the vehicles 4WD system from engaging which is an extreme safety concern in the mountains of North Carolina in winter. I have been trying to fix the problem at my own cost for a year and a half and the gross negligence on the part of Chrysler and Stellantis will not even allow me to purchase the needed parts. I am seriously considering legal action due to this total disregard for the safety and lives of their customers. Lost diesel exhaust brake transmission down shifts trying to slow vehicle bolt in cold start heater plate dropped into engine via intake manifold causing extensive internal damage
I’m concerned, as I expect many owners of 17-18 Ram 2500 are. Feb 23, while returning to my home, I lost control of my vehicle after breaking before entering left to right turn that I had been thru thousands of times. Less than 1 mile from my residence I applied breaks gently prior to entering turn. After applying brakes, they locked up and I was unable to control my truck. I slid sideways a few hundred feet and made contact with a utility pole. I have never felt so helpless while driving. This caused significant damage to my vehicle. Never had any ABS problems prior to this event. After vehicle was repaired (well over $20,000) I had problems with ABS - Cruise Control that repair shop could not fix. They sent to tire shop who also could not repair. Was advised to take to dealer. Vehicle was repaired with new EBS pump (which was part of current recall). I paid $100.00 deductible for repair. I wondered why dealership reimbursed my $100.00. Now I know why, received recall in mail a few days ago for repair of this part. I think Fiat/Chrysler should be on the hook for my insurance deductible. Plus not having my truck for over 4 months. I’m also gonna lose money upon trade due to no fault of my own.
I was entering an intersection on a green light when a car from the cross street entered from the right running a red light. I hit them at approximately 35-40 mph in the driver side doors. My airbags failed to deploy. The cab on my truck was shifted more than 2 inches off the frame and was a total loss since the original repair estimate was more than $43,000. The reporting firemen and paramedics and the repair shop all could not believe that the air bags did not deploy. My passenger and I are still suffering from injuries sustained in the accident, which are likely much worse because of the failure of the airbags to deploy.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving 25-30 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal traveled down to the floorboard, but the vehicle failed to respond as needed, causing the braking distance to become extended. The ABS and the traction control warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ABS module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 21,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The contact stated that a diagnostic scanner was used to retrieve DTC: P2609; which indicated a failure in the intake air heater system. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealers were contacted and indicated that the part was not available to order. No further information was available. The manufacturer was not yet contacted regarding the failure or parts availability. The failure mileage was 123,200.
Brake shift interlock clamp around column gear shift broke. There was a recall T-79 but it’s says our vehicle is not included. As we bought this vehicle used we are guessing it was repaired? But repaired with another defective part.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 MPH the contact was cut off by another driver while in traffic and depress the brake pedal and all four wheels locked up. The contact was able to avoid a crash. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The local dealer was contacted and advised the contact that a Service Tech was not available but would be reaching out. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 154,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the speedometer dropped to zero, and the ABS, traction control, and parking brake warning lights illuminated. Additionally, the doors failed to lock, and the brake lights remained illuminated after the vehicle was turned off. The contact needed to manually lock and unlock the doors using the fob key. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the ABS, hydraulic control unit and hydraulic motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
ABS/TRACTION CONTROL lights on, the systems do not work and the NTSB knows this. Numerous recalls on different years and Dodge models yet you won't recall the 2017. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. [XXX] and issue a recall on ALL YEARS and MODELS, or are you in their pocket????? INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Loss of brake function
ABS/ELECTRIC BRAKING SYSTEM LIGHT... HAD ABS PUMP MOTOR and HCU REPLACED 2 TIMES WITHIN 28 MONTHS AT MY COSTS..LESS THAN 60K ON ODOMETER
I have read online that this is a common problem for Ram Trucks. The SEBS and ABS lights and alarm will start flashing and dinging- the result is Intermittent ABS and traction control lights, no cruise or 4x4. I have 38,000 miles. I spent approximately $1300 to have it repaired. When I was. At the Ram repair shop, I was told that the parking lot was full of similar Ram trucks with the same problem. So clearly there should be a recall.
Repeated ABS service message on dash. Light and chime turn on and off while depressing brake pedal, turning, hitting bumps. ABS module and hydraulic module were already replaced 20k miles ago for same issue. Code C0020-01
HCU/ABS modules have failed for the second time in 50K miles. While using Cruise Control at highways speed (70mph) in heavy traffic the warning lines and chime came on. At the same instance the truck started slowing down dramatically. Almost causing us to get rear ended. It was like slamming on the brakes, but without brake lights to warn cars behind me. I finally figured out it caused the Cruise Control to kick out. Now I am having to listen to the constant chirping of the chime. It even chimes when the truck is not moving!!! Let me ask this question.... Why is it that long ago NHTSA required Anti-Lock Brakes on all cars to improve safety? Yet, when that system has a systemic problem of failure on these trucks, it's no longer a safety related problem? Makes zero sense!!! I purchased this truck with 99K miles on it. These modules went out once approximately 10K miles later. Now I have 154K miles and they have gone out again. FCA is selling replacement modules but they are the exact same failed design. They are not only not fixing the issue, they are knowingly selling parts that have systemic and reoccurring safety failures. This is legally called blatant negligence...
Issue a recall here! Many others are reporting this identical issue and a class action suit has been filed! ABS sensor light and chime comes on at random times. My truck just reached 100,000 miles. I've performed no troubleshooting but it is extremely intermittent, either the Service the Automatic or Service the Electronic Braking System(s). Usually, a bump in the road makes it come and another turns it off. Sometimes it happens so quickly, only the message and traction control disabled light comes on, sometimes only the chime comes in. Sometimes the message stays up and the brake warning and traction control light comes on, sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes a couple of seconds. To compound the problem, there appears to be an issue in sourcing replacement parts resulting in a delay in repair. A delay in repair could result in a additional damage to the vehicle, not using the vehicle (not an option) or ultimately an accident. Also can’t use cruise control when it’s displaying.
Abs module and pump motor need to be replaced but are on back order and can't be replaced. Vehicle is now unfit for operation.
ABS Light and traction conrol light started acting up. Brakes not currently sticking but will be sending for possible repair as this is a common trend with this vehichle from What I have reviewed online.
ABS traction control keep flashing on and off due to hcu problem
Abs pump intermittent light
ABS module failure
In July of 2020 my 2017 RAM 2500 ABS and Service Electronic Brakes warning lights began illuminating intermittently. My vehicle had 12,343 miles on the odometer at the time and was three years old. There was no noticeable change to the brake performance. The vehicle was brought into a RAM dealer for service which found code C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control-General Electrical Failure present with Starcase #S2005000004 instructing the replacement of the hydraulic control unit. This corrected the issue until August of 2024 when the above warning lights began illuminating again, intermittently, but in increasing frequency. The issue was diagnosed by a RAM dealer with the same code as above (C0020-1) and the recommendation to again replace the hydraulic control unit. My vehicle had 30,901 miles on the odometer at the time. The total for the service in 2020 was $984.89 and in 2024 $698.46 for the second replacement of a component within 5 years. Understanding that there was no recall ever issued, the ABS and Stability/ Traction control systems are designed to provide safety to vehicle occupants in heavy braking or loss of traction situations. While there was no noticeable difference in brake function, the presumption is that if there are warning lights activated, there is an unknown issue with the brake system which could result in brake failure. Further, the requirement to replace the same part twice in 30,000 miles at a total cost of $1,683.35 does not seem reasonable. Many owners
The illumination of the ABS light and traction control light. The light actives intermittently. The reported problem from a vehicle code reader is “ ABS pump motor control general electrical failure”. With the lights illuminated, I am no longer able to use cruise control. Prior to the warning lights I noticed I was having to depress my brake pedal harder than normally at random times. No signs of brake fluid loss or leaks. The brake pads are in good working condition. I have not taken it to a dealer as I have read the replacement parts are on back order and there are multiple lawsuits pertaining to this issue as well.
Abs and traction control light error repeatedly after repair and replacement of abs and hsu module
Recurring ABS and traction light warning lights, with trouble code C0020 for the ABS pump control motor. Loss of function of ABS, traction control, and cruise control when it occurs. Truck has ~50k miles on it.
Vehicle is displaying service abs and traction control. C-0020 and told to replace abs pump and hcu module. Ram has multiple issues with different year makes and models involving abs and recently recalled the new rams. Research has shown high numbers of issues involving the 2017 ram 2500 for this exact issue and ram also could not provide the recommended part to fix. Abs does not work which is required by the nhsta and ram has released defective vehicles for years. This issue needs to be included in a recall.
The ABS warning lights comes on intermittently saying that the ABS braking system needs to be serviced. This appears to be can common defect with the Hydraulic Control Unit and Module on all 2017 to 2018 Dodge Ram trucks. With this defect the anti skid braking system does not work and the brakes are compromised. This happened at about 30,000 miles and the truck was already out of warranty. Dodge is stating that it will cost about $2,500 dollars to fix once Hydraulic Control Units become available. Apparently there is a nation wide back order.
Abs light goes on and off intermittently. Caused my truck wheels to lock up in fast stop maneuver. Dealer said ABS module needs to be replaced but there is no recall yet.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS module failure warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with ABS module failure. The contact was informed that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.
ABS & traction control brake failure light goes on and off as I’m driving. The ABS module was replaced around 30,000 and now it’s doing the same thing at 70,000. This is unsafe to be carrying heavy cargo and not being able to stop in time. Please issue a recall for RAM to fix this issue.
ABS and Traction Control lights have come on for the second time. First time at 100K miles the Hydraulic Module and Controller were replaced at my expense. Now at 153K miles the lights are coming on again. This is a habitual problem with this generation of RAM trucks and it's a safety issue for the following reasons: 1) the ABS system stops working 2) the traction control system stops working 3) the cruise control is unexpectedly turned off, which is a major concern, and 4) the 4x4 quits working which in the right circumstances can cause an accident.
I have a 2017 Ram 2500 6.4L. The ABS light is constantly on. At times it’s off then back on. Buying new parts for it does not fix it. I slid off a rainy road the other day due to this. Narrowly missing a vehicle. The brakes locked up. This is a safety concern. Please help. As far as I have found out there is no fix for this.
Anti lock brake system has intermittent Error code. Been living with this for two years. In the beginning, no-parts available from factory. Error can flash many time in and out during any driving period. Code C0020-01 'ABS Pump Motor Control-General Electric Failure. Dealer only repairs, however they cannot get parts. Was told this today. 9-12-2024 No recall from Ram/Chrysler/Fiat. $60k for a truck, the manufacturer takes no responsibility. Thousands have reported this issue over many years of production. I can't say this LOUD enough; This is a BRAKE system failure!
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the massage "Service ABS System" was displayed and an audible alarm was activated. Additionally, during the failure the cruise control feature had deactivated. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The contact indicated that the HCU was replaced on two previous occasions for the same failures, but eventually the failures reoccurred. The manufacturer and local dealer were not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 61,000.
Abs service light come on and off intermittently. Something to do with a bad abs control module
ABS and Traction control warning lights are on display. Cruise control and 4x4 will not engage due to this issue. Also causing malfunction while towing a trailer.
On November 9, 2022 I had the Control-Anti-Lock Breaking System repaired by Bob Moore Chrysler Dodge in Tulsa. They replaced the HCU and performed a base bleed of the brake and ABS breaking system. This repair was prompted by the vehicles ABS warning light and chimes activating during operation. As of September 3, 2024 the same ABS warning light and chime is again activating during operation. I paid $620.00 the first time to get this issued repaired and I do not feel that I should have to pay this again on a part/system that is obviously defective from the manufacture. My research into this issue shows this is a common issue on these models as well as a possible safety problem.
ABS and EBS keeps flashing on and off code said wheel bearing hubs , replaced them still happening
ABS / TRACTION CONTROL AS WELL AS SERVICE ABS SYSTEM. AT TIMES IT COMES AND GOES AND MOST TIMES NOW IT STAYS ON. DISABLES CRUISE CONTROL AND AT TIMES EVEN SAYS 4 WHEEL DRIVE UNAVAILABLE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH MY YEAR MODEL RAM AND I'D LIKE TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE ASAP.
Antilock Brake System Warning and Traction Control lights on dash with associated warning chime. Was also given the warning that 4X4 is not available. The warning occurred on a return multi-day trip. The warning interrupted cruise control causing it to turn off and unable to reengage. After a brief fuel stop and the trip continued the warnings disappeared after a few miles. The warnings then reappeared with the associated disengagement on the cruise control. A few more stops were made and the warnings persisted never going out after restart. Reading forums on the internet seems to indicate this is a persistent issue with numerous reports the the NTSB. The Vehicle has approximately 75,000 mile and was place in service in early 2018.
It appears multiple people I know have the same issue with 2017 ram 2500 my truck included I have issues with my trucks ABS. I got a random code looked it up and says ABS pump motor control. It’s a danger to the public and my self truck suddenly gets that ABS light and emergency light turn on.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
