The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the tone wheel had failed causing the engine to seize. The contact was informed of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V411000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) which provided a remedy of a software update. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and it was confirmed that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V411000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the mechanic denied the replacement of the tone wheel. The failure mileage was 104,000.
My truck electric steering suddenly locked while driving in the highway lightning my steering wheel service light on
Air suspension completely fails when the weather reaches below zero. When the air suspension fails there is nothing protecting the driver due to the bumpiness of the ride. Your head will constantly hit the headrest the entire ride. Air suspension can also fail while the truck is in motion.
The electric power steering failed while driving the vehicle. Due to the size and weight of the vehicle, it is extremely difficult to maneuver safely without power steering. I took it to the nearest dealer and they inspected the truck and confirmed that the electric power steering rack and pinion had failed due to the control board withing the rack and pinion and recommended a complete replacement of the rack and pinion.

Brakes locked up in busy pedestrian area when it was wet. Message popped up on dash that stated to service electronic braking system and a second to service the ABS brake system. I almost hit someone because they did not perform as they have in hard braking scenarios in the past. The truck is at the dealership with no parts available in the nation and no aftermarket availability until an engineering solution is found at FCA. There is much to read on the issue at various online forum sites. When I slammed on my brakes my truck slid all over the place and that has never happpend before .
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 30 MPH, the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering assist. No warning light was illuminated. While driving on a busy Highway my 2017 Ram 1500 will lose power causing me to abruptly slow down in the middle of the road. Suddenly my check engine light and every other light appears and I get many warnings in the dash: service electronic braking system, service shifter, and many more. Restarting the vehicle or disconnecting the battery will resolve the issue for a short amount of time. It’s not long before the same thing happens again.
My turn signal doesn’t turn off when making a left turn 90% and when making a right 50%
AIR SUSPENSION FAILURE
The fuel pump quit working, which immediately made the engine die. I was on a two lane road and there was no place to get off the road. There was no prior warning of the issue and there apparently have been no recalls, even though, Ram is very aware of the problem and and in some cases the engines have been damaged due to pieces of metal from the fuel pump getting into the engine. I know of other people who have had the same issue with gas powered Ram trucks and there is a lot of information on the internet. In addition to the safety issues that this creates, I had to pay to a portion of the cost to replace the pump. Part of the expense was covered by an extended warrantee. The truck only had about 47,000 miles on it when the pump failed and apparently that is about average for the failure. Ram should have to recall these units and foot the expense to avoid having dead vehicles in traffic lanes
On a irregular basis, would get warning messages and dash warning lights about " Service Anti-lock Brake system" , and " Service Electronic Brake System", and vehicle would start to immediately lose power and in some locations, would be on an open highway at highway speeds. Would have to pull off road to try and cycle truck off and on to regain operation. Getting rear-ended on the highway is NOT an option due to a faulty module or braking system...!! NO pre warning lights or symtpons, it just happens.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving with the Adaptive Cruise Control engaged and set to 70 MPH, the engine was misfiring and made abnormally loud sounds. Additionally, the vehicle started losing motive power. The message "Service DEF System - See Dealer" was displayed. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The contact stated that upon opening the hood and lifting the engine cover, she noticed that the engine was on fire. The contact was able to extinguish the fire with water bottles. There was no Fire or Police report filed. There was no injury sustained. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
Truck stalled on interstate was able to continue off interstate once on secondary road truck stalled and shut off. I was able to get it restarted and drive to near by RAM dealership where it has been sitting since. Dealer says the have been unable to get it to restart. The technician believes this is due to HPFP which was recalled over a year ago, parts for repair are still unavailable. Service engine light came on just prior to stalling. I contacted FCA they offered no resolution and stated they will not authorize loaner vehicle for recall issues leaving me with no transportation
Turning into our drive way, the power rack and pinion failed. Couldn't turn the wheel and drove into our yard. A red steering wheel appeared on the dash. After this happened, I have discovered this has been a recall item on many dodge ram trucks. I have tried to order a new part, but none is available. The part # is 68628858AA. I can't drive my truck and I can't get a part to fix it. The failure is a real safety issue because there is no warning, until after the failure has occured. The steering wheel becomes extremely difficult to turn, which results in losing control of the vehicle. This issue has to be a common occurrence , since no parts are available.
Brake, ABS and traction control lights all came on and according to Dodge Dealer the cause is the ABS ECU control module and /or ABS hydraulic system. Dodge indicated ECU Control Module is on backorder pending engineering review so it does not make sense to replace only the hydraulic unit without replacing the ECU Module., They say it is safe to drive, however ABS, traction control, and cruise control will not operate.

Part# 68295368AC ABS control module failed about 3 months ago. Took to dealership to repair and they said no eta on when part will arrive and that there is a national shortage on the part and 100's of these are waiting to come in for repairs. Contact Dodge/Ram and basically told the same thing. Was told to just be careful and when part is available (no estimated ETA), they would let me know. This is same components being used in new vehicles currently being built but RAM is okay with "just being careful" on not having a government mandated safety feature since 2011. I offered to go and get the part on my own and no response to that option either. Ram knows this is a safety issue and is burying their head in the sand. My family safety and safety of others on the road is important to me. This lets just use them to build new vehicles and let's not worry about the safety of the public worries me.

Vehicle was brought in several times for loose headlights. Each time fastners were replaced. By dealership. Larry Miller boise, ID. Called ram cares they stated nothing was reported to them nor were there any recall. This is a major safety issue and on forums many people state they cannot pass state inspection because the headlights are falling out.
Engine started making a ticking sound approximately around Oct 15th 2023 Called ram cares because my 2008 chrysler aspen with 180k on the same 5.7 liter engine had the same sound and a private shop replaced. Lifters. Started escalation case number [XXX] on October 25th 2023. 2017 ram went to Larry Miller dealership, Boise, ID on Oct 30, 2023. Eric service manager says technician diagnosis was warped exhaust manifold and loose bolts. This is coming with the 5.7l hemi and they have replaced over 20 this year alone and with miles as low as 30,000 miles. These parts are defective and should be recalled before it starts a fire INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Tried to leave and the service power steering light came on and there was no power steering. We shut the truck off and started it again and the light went off and we had power steering again. This has happened on and off a few times which is consistent with the recall we were informed of. We brought our truck to the local repair shop and they told us that there is a recall for this very issue (see attached copy from them). We then contacted the Dodge dealership we purchased the truck from and was told that this is VIN number specific and that our VIN number was not included in this recall, however the recall is occurring with vehicles made between 2013-2019 and ours is a 2017. We also contacted Chrysler who told us the same thing.
The fuel tank's front support bracket completely rusted out. I was driving and started to hear a very loud grinding sound. The bracket gave way completely dropping the tank almost to the ground and pushing the fuel tank bracket into the drive shaft grinding into it. Luckily it didn't create a spark or wrap around the drive shaft. The fuel tank could've fallen down completely or a spark could've been created from the bracket and drive shaft hitting leading to a fire or worse. There are no other rust points like this on the truck. The brackets seem to be made from a thinner/weaker material which is prone to heavy rust. Vehicle has been in Kentucky most of its life and is only 6 years old. This issue could've led to me being seriously injured or killed. I am unaware if this problem has been reproduced but I am aware of a recall for the same issue on earlier model year trucks by RAM. The vehicle hasn't been inspected by anyone yet as it's the weekend but will be looked at at the start of the work week. There were no warning lights, symptoms or anything leading up to this failure. Everything was fine and then it just wasn't.

Engine shutoff instantly while traveling at approximately 50MPH on a highway. We were able to coast to the shoulder. There was no warning, the engine just shut off instantly while driving. It would not restart and we could not even shift out of park to move the truck off the highway shoulder. Truck was towed to my home at my expense and is not movable due to this issue.
I’m filing a complaint on the recalls already on my vehicle. Neither one of my recalls have been fixed. I keep getting told parts are not available. When ask for timeline I am ignored by the dealers. They haven't even offered at this point to by my vehicle back or give me a vehicle that works correctly. I need some kinda of solution taken care of ASAP.

The contact was awaiting a call back from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
As many have mentioned already. I have had to have the passenger side exhaust manifold bolts replaced along with manifold due to heat warpage. Now at 88k the ticking from exhaust leak has returned. The same bolts have broken and dealer is now telling me that I have to replace the head due to the bolt not being able to be extracted. I feel as if the customer shouldn't be responsible for this known issue after purchasing an 60K truck at the time in 2017. 2 issue all with less than 90K and truck is not abused.
I purchased my truck used in November 2022. After I purchased the vehicle, about a day or two later my wife said she continues to heat a ticking sound coming from the engine bay area while idling. I started the vehicle up and heard the exact same sound. I subsequently took it to my mechanic for a diagnostic test and he said my truck and many many more come to him with the same problem and it is very common. The problem was defective exhaust manifold bolts that break off prematurely into the engine block leaving owners with a costly repair of $1200 or more depending on how many bolts are broken, if one side or both sides are damaged, and the difficulty of the repair. I had broken bolts on both sides of the engine. The manufacturer knew about this issue and failed to conduct a recall. My truck also failed the emissions test. Now Ram is preparing to discontinue the Hemi engine and replace it with the 6 cylinder Hurricane engines in future Ram light trucks.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle intermittently experienced a loss of power steering assist. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.
Fuel sensor failure causing check engine light to activate
The exhaust manifold bolts broke on my truck. There was a recall for this, but my VIN wasn’t included. However it’s the same problem as the recall
While hard accelerating from a stop light and towing a moderately loaded trailer (~ 3,000 lbs), I felt the turbo engage and heard a loud bang and felt the rear end get wobbly. The truck pulled violently to the right and I instantly lost accelaration and heard something dragging on the concrete, I coasted into the left turn lane and got out to find my driveshaft had broke at the rear differential yoke and was resting on the ground, still attached to the transfer case. I hopped back in and put it in 4wd to power the front tires to limp to a safe location about 100 yards down the road. Upon closer inspection both upper control arm ends that attached to a frame via a bushing broke causing the differential to rotate to the point the rear u-joint yoke broke off the drive shaft. I called a dealer but the repair time was > 1month so I repaired it myself by replacing both control arms (with Moog aftermarket arms) and a new Mopar drive shaft. Upon closer inspection both control arm ends had poor weld quality (poor weld fusion) where the bushing loop attaches to the control arm shaft. They should not have failed given the normal driving and the low miles on the vehicle. This is definitely a manufacturers defect that could have caused a serious accident had the loss of control caused the vehicle to swerved into oncoming traffic. I still have the defective part if needed for closer inspection/testing. This incident was shared with FCA recalls but was not covered nor were they interested i
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the vehicle made an abnormal sound. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure recurred when starting the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the head of the exhaust manifold bolt was fractured on both sides, causing hot fuel to leak onto the engine. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
While driving home from school with my wife and kids, my vehicle died in the highway at about 55 mph. I almost got rear ended by the vehicle behind me. I was lucky to roll it out to the side of the road without getting in a accident. Had the vehicle towed to a mechanic shop and was informed that the cp4 pump had failed and the whole fuel system was contaminated. I bough the truck 8 months ago, and still owe over 25 thousand dollars on it. This is my daily driver. I can’t afford paying for a broken vehicle. Had to borrow a car from family temporarily to use for everything. I don’t know where to get help with this case. Please help.

Power steering just stopped working one day when truck was started.
Mount for gas tank strap rotted and front fuel tank strap came off leaving fuel tank hang down. Luckily did not fall out of truck. This issue has had recalls on other model years but not 2017 which was a carryover model year so don’t understand why not. Could have been a very dangerous issue. Also a very expensive repair. I have never seen an issue with fuel tank falling out of vehicles that are not very old. This truck has only 60,400 miles also.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
