ABS light came on a long time ago and I have been unable to get it repaired due to availability of the part and demand due to so many owners having an issue with this ABS module failing. This is not a wear and tear part, this module should not have failed when it did. I see there have been recalls on other Ram trucks and 2016 has been left out. This issues is present for so many owners and is a safety issue.
2016 Ram 1500 complaints
Owner reports filed with NHTSA about this vehicle, newest first and reproduced as filed. They are unverified accounts: one proves nothing, and a pattern across many is the thing worth reading. Back to the full 2016 record →
Fuel level sensor failed. Truck will randomly display false fuel levels. This causes the fuel level to be unknown leading the potential of running out gas and being stranded. Dealer says fuel pump needs replaced and is in the process of doing so. Dealer also stated this is a common issue on the Ram trucks.
I drove through standing water in a parking lot and a few minutes later the steering got funny.the next day it was no power steering, then the steering completely locked up could not turn steering wheel at all.
Abs internal system failure. Abs light illuminated, traction control light illuminated, parking brake light illuminated at all times. Is available for inspection. Do not have abs system currently working and is faulty. Spongy braking and am at risk for brake failure at any time. Especially during slick road conditions. It has been confirmed with independent service center and has been inspected by them. No problems prior to the illumination of lights and system failure which occurred June 4th 2025.
Tailgate falls while driving or will not catch with several attempts to close. Rear camera flickers with no picture sometimes.
I believe my truck should be included in recall s19/nhtsa 16v 167: I turned on my truck , and the EPS warning light came on. The truck lost all power steering. The next day it worked. Then after idling in a parking lot, I tried to drive and the column had a shake. Then the power steering went completely out
I presently have 92,200 miles on my Doge Ram. I have experienced 3 fuel pump/fuel sender failures. The first at 18,947 miles, second at 43,634 miles and third at 92,263.This last fuel pump replacement will have the defective pump available for inspection after the repair work is done. The failure of a fuel pump/sender could lead to stalling, power loss and failure to start. These deficiencies could lead to traffic accidents resulting in property loss and bodily harm or even death. The warnings persisted until I had the parts replaced. Because of the number of times (3)and the low mileage , 18k,43k and 92k miles, it appears that the fuel pumps used in this model of Dodge Ram are either defective or inadequately engineered. These failures were preceded by and check engine warning light followed by a fuel sensor failure light and fuel gauge malfunction.
Truck EPS failed while driving creating a dangerous situation but turck falls outside of NHTSA 16V-167 recall.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the failure persisted. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the crankshaft position sensor tone wheel. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V411000 (Engine and Engine Cooling), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 56,000.
Per the dealer the ABS module failed, affecting the antilock brakes, traction control, trailer braking. Component failures causes erratic braking. The vehicle is now subject to longer stops in wet/slippery conditions. The dealer has diagnosed the problem. Chrysler/Ram do not have the ABS modules and they are on national back order. There is no known delivery date. Multiple lights are on in the vehicle. Vehicle has been at the dealer for more than 2 weeks now. The problem was diagnosed July 1, 2025. The needed part couldn't be sourced by the dealer.
Power steering assist quit working while driving. It appears to be an electrical problem because it works when restarting engine before it goes out again. There are no apparent mechanical issues with it.
The ABS warning light has appeared and the dealership inspected the vehicle and stated the ABS needs to be replaced. Research shows multiple RAM 1500 trucks from 2016-2019 have had a recall on this system, but as far as I know, no recall was issued on mine. I do not know where to look to view all recalls that were issued on a particular vehicle.
We were driving down the interstate and my truck went into limp mode. This almost caused an accident. We were able to get off the road and into a parking lot but the whole truck locked up. The dash started saying "Service Throttle Positioning System" and the gear shift locked into park. The truck got stuck in first gear and I was able to get out of the way before we were rear ended. We had the truck towed to a truck shop and the codes had gone away. They drove it and while they were testing it it did the same thing to them. Based on research this part was on recall on the Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0L Eco Diesel for causing this same issue with the crank shaft tone wheel (reluctor wheel) but to this date there has been none on my truck. We are now out $3400 for the repair with Stellantis knowing they have had issues with this part on the other models with the same engine.
In January 2025, the “Check ABS” warning light illuminated in my 2016 RAM 1500 Laramie. I promptly brought the vehicle to the dealership where it was purchased. Upon inspection, I was informed that the required part for repairs was on back order. I was assured that I would receive an update from the dealership in March 2025 regarding the status of the part, but I did not receive any communication. On June 20, 2025, I contacted the dealership for an update and was informed that the part remains on back order and is no longer being manufactured. However, no solutions or alternative options were provided to address this issue. A representative from the Service Department stated they would escalate the matter to the Parts Manager, but no further plan or resolution was discussed. Given that the vehicle ABS is a key safety feature, I am very concerned that a necessary safety component is unavailable.
I am having trouble with the electronic power steering. The power steering goes in and out, making it difficult to turn the steering wheel, making myself feel at risk while in traffic. The problem has not been confirmed yet by a dealer for my specific VIN.
Intermittent steering issues, loss of power steering, hard to steer vehicle.
The Anti-Lock Brake module has failed, causing issues with ABS, Traction Control, Braking in general, and cruise control. I have been in contact with the manufacturer on over 20 occasions over the past year. Their response is always "it's under review, we will have an update in a few weeks."
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware of a part hanging down underneath the vehicle. The contact inspected underneath the vehicle and became aware that the fuel tank strap was corroded and had detached. In addition, the fuel tank was partially detached. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,400.
The steering is difficult as though the power steering is gone at low speeds. My battery died and after disconnecting it and replacing the battery, the power steering was fine for a few days. It then went back to not working and hasn’t worked since. Steering the truck around turns through a city is difficult when power steering isn’t available. No warning lights or check engine lights have been illuminated.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the air filter was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, months later the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, there was a misfire coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed and the contact was advised that the EGR cooler assembly, intake manifold, NOX sensor, and the exhaust particulate sensor were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 107,000.
Due to low oil pressure vehicle engine seized while driving on freeway. After having it towed to local dealer, I was quoted $19,000 to replace the engine because it could not be repaired.
RAM has an extended warranty out regarding the front strap for the fuel tank that is known to fail. When the strap failed, the fuel tank dropped causing a gouge in the drive shaft. In addition to the compromised drive shaft, the metal bracket was touching the ground. Should I have been driving during when this failed, the metal could have caused sparks causing the fuel tank to ignite. This problem should be moved from an extended warranty to a recall.
About 2 months ago, the power steering assist stopped working and has been intermittent since. As I drove it to the dealership, I splashed into a puddle and the power steering returned. The dealership ran a check and found the code C2128 but said they could not replicate the problem. They found the PSA module cover was rusty. They wanted to charge $3,500 to replace the module as well as $2,300 to repair both front struts. I took my truck back (power steering inoperable) and researched parts, repair shops and recalls. There is a recall for PSA failure of the year of my vehicle though my truck is not included. I seem to have all the same issues as reported in the NHTSA recall. The power steering is presently still intermittent (wet weather seems to effect it) and feels generally unsafe as it fails and returns without warning. No other symptoms or indications before, during or after failure(s).
Complaint: 2016 Ram 1500 - Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) Module Failure Vehicle Information: Make: Ram Model: 1500 Year: 2016 Current Odometer Reading: Approximately 48,000 miles Incident Description: My 2016 Ram 1500 truck has experienced a failure of the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) module. This failure has resulted in the deactivation of several critical safety systems, including: Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) Traction Control System Cruise Control Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Consequences of Failure: The complete shutdown of these safety systems, particularly the ABS, poses a significant and immediate safety risk. Without a functional ABS, the vehicle's braking performance is severely compromised, increasing the likelihood of wheel lock-up during sudden braking and significantly elevating the risk of an accident or complete brake failure, especially under adverse road conditions. Dealer Response & Lack of Resolution: I contacted an authorized Ram dealership to address this critical issue. Unfortunately, the dealership informed me that they currently have no replacement parts for the ABS module and have received no guidance or support from Chrysler (Stellantis) regarding a resolution. This lack of parts and technical support leaves me with a vehicle that is, in my opinion, unsafe to operate and susceptible to an accident due to a known, unaddressed safety defect. Request for Action: I am submitting this complaint to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrat
I have found countless problems with broken bolts on the exhaust manifold on the web. Technical service bulletins have been written involving the problem. It is a known problem and continues.
While driving My Dodge Ram 1500 on the freeway at 65 MPH the steering wheel locked up and I had no control over my vehicle. The vehicle put everyone on the freeway in danger, including myself. Each time this happened the engine light and the light for the traction control system came on. This has happened multiple times and each time I have reported it to the dealership, they say they can not help me unless it happens while they are driving it. Please address this before someone gets hurt because of my steering column locking up.

The electronic power steering rack went out making steering very difficult and upon doing research discovered there is a recall for this exact problem but by the recall doesn't include my VIN number
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 55 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality with the power steering warning light illuminated. The contact continued to drive the vehicle however, the steering wheel became extremely stiff. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the steering unit had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Saturday [XXX], around noon, I was driving my family and my electronic power steering went out. The steering wheel became to stiff during a turn into a voting station, and I almost ran over a curb hitting pedestrians. I turned off the vehicle and restarted it and a red power steering indicated lamp lit on the dashboard, and the vehicle was difficult to steer. The mechanic I called recommended I check NHTSA Saftey Recalls, and found this for 2016 Ram Trucks: ":16V-167 / S19 Recall Summary The power steering system may stop functioning because of a short circuit in the electric power steering (EPS) control circuit board. This would increase risk of a crash." However, me VIN is not covered in the recall. I called RAM to let them know and opened a case, and they recommended I report this to NHTSA . I was not able to get the truck to a RAM dealer, but the mechanic I took it to said that the electronics have failed and the entire steering assembly needs to be replaced... I was driving my Ram 1500 when all of a sudden my steering wheel locked in place and I could not control my steering wheel. This was a bit frightening as I did not know what had happened. I was able to bring my truck back home and called a mechanic, the mechanic told me it is a rack and pinion issue with my truck and after investigation we found there was a recall on a few of these Rams surprisingly when looking it up it shows “no unrepaired recalls” I find it hard to believe and really frustrating as this could’ve caused a really bad accident had even cost me my life.
Ever since I have owned the vehicle, the gas station fill nozzle randomly gets stuck when trying to fill the vehicle. I tried taking it to the dealer years back, but was told there was no fix. When the nozzle gets stuck, you really need to wiggle and pry to get it out, sometime spilling fuel outside the truck when it finally releases.
- Power Steering Failed - Was driving highway speed - Suddenly steering wheel stiffened/locked - Dashboard warning light cam on and audible alert stating "Service Power Steering" Truck was able to be guided manually (very difficult - inexperienced driver or individual with less strength would not be able to turn steering wheel ) - not yet - This happened Sunday [XXX] - Truck is currently in the drive at my residence. - Warning lamp and audible alert - At time of incident - I did notice the steering was a little wonky 2 - 3 days prior. (Believed to be tie-rod/Ball joint etc.) Had called local garage to set up inspection (Due in May) to check front end. Below it request (how fast were we traveling) I mention this because, On Saturday evening [XXX] Between [XXX] and [XXX] We were traveling highway speeds 65 - 70 (Flow of traffic) in low visibility (Dark/Rainy) If this has occurred during that period there likely would be "Additional Details" to provide in the below. ABS module failed at 46000 miles. Cannot drive the vehicle due to this problem. Code C2200-49 internal failure. When hitting brakes in rain, tires lock up. Stability control is also off, cruise control does not work. The part to repair this truck are unavailable. Part # 68295368AB Dealership mechanics are telling me to buy on used one on ebay and have them install it. They said there are 3600 of these modules on national back order. Stellantis keeps putting off the engineering sign-off back when the next posted date arrives (as of 4/21/25.)
I have electronic steering in my 2016 dodge ram it is failing when driving the truck has under 100,000 miles on it. It just happened all at once while driving to work one morning.
Power Steering issues that have been known for multiple Dodge Ram 1500 Trucks but apparently not my specific Truck? I have contacted multiple shops to get quotes to fix this problem. It has been known to be a problem for multiple Ram 1500 Trucks including my year but for whatever reason my truck is not listed as under this recall? There was absolutely nothing wrong with my vehicle and my vehicle has been very well maintained with all records in hand. Out of nowhere getting in my truck the steering does not work. No accidents or any damage, just random failure to the power steering. This caused my family and I to barely be able to steer my truck onto the main road from our house and back to the home safely. It was very random as this was the first and only time this occurred. Curious as to why my vehicle is not covered under the recall that is listed for all other Dodge Ram 1500 Trucks for the same issues? This is not a normal thing to have fail.
ABS control module failed. Dash warning lights are on and error code present for ABS module failure. There is no replacement available and no one can give any kind of estimate for when the part may ever be available. They poses a huge safety risk and is a known problem in which it appears they are doing nothing about correcting.
The power steering keeps going out and coming back
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 30 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. There was smoke and oil coming from the engine. The driver was able to pull off the roadway. The check engine warning light illuminated after the failure. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
My ABS, traction control and cruise control do not work because the ABS control module is bad. Dodge does not offer any fix or repair. There is no response from Dodge on when there will be a remedy.
Power steering fails intermittently while driving. Been told it the EPSboard but I'm not part of the recall for some reason
Was driving and the power steering went out, cannot turn the steering wheel causing extreme danger to my family in the car and others driving as I could not turn to get off the road. Huge Hazard.
Steering rack went out around 70k miles
ABS module failed, locked up the brakes and almost caused and accident
ASB warning light is on Emergency brake light is on Check engine light is on Fuel cap light is on Backup camera doesn't work well Brakes are sluggish. ABS doesn't seem to be working. Hard to stop to avoid collision. 2 close calls. Dealer says no part available to fix. It has been over a year.
My power steering assist failed. This put my life and my kids lives at risk, as well as anyone else on the rroad.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH and depressing the brake pedal firmly, the brakes locked up. The contact became aware that the ABS had failed. The ABS, traction control, and brake warning lights were illuminated. The message "Service ABS" was displayed. The dealer was contacted for parts and informed the contact that the ABS module was not available and was under engineering review. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 108,289.
The Dealer did not complete this Safety Recall, They refused to follow up with the repair description of 73A which is part of this 66A they both have the same NHSTA Number. The vehicle seems to be more difficult to drive after getting it back from the dealer. I also noticed new cosmetic damages, and a missing cover under the fender-well. Vehicle is experiencing a failure of the Anti Brake System Controller Module. This issue is triggering a "Red Brake" system light as well as others (Antiskid failure etc,) on the dash. Vehicle manual states do not drive the vehicle. The part number in question is 68295368AB. This is occurring in RAM1500 vehicles across the country. Dealerships are telling owners it is OK to drive the vehicle after confirming the ABS Controller Module is defective. Ram and parent company has failed to issue a recall or a communication to RAM 1500 owers of this problem. Currently the repair parts are not available nationwide per the RAM MOPAR parts website. This is a dangerous situation instilling a behavior with owners to disregard the warning lights they are receiving on their 1500 truck dashboards. Potentil for brake failure during operation has a high probability. Ram MOPAR is ignoring this safety issue.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
