With no warning my truck lost all anti-lock braking, traction control, stability control, trailer brakes, and 4x4 capability (computer will not allow 4x4 to engage). This is due to an "abs module" failure. Ram/Dodge has no new units available to repair this faulty part and no ETA on if/when they will be available. There was thankfully no accident with this failure but obviously, it could lead to one. Especially since the part cannot be fixed. Owners are left with scavenging used parts that are still operational. As in my case, my vehicle will have to be "fixed" with an abs module from a wrecked truck! Also, the electronic steering can fail with no warnings. Leading to complete loss of power steering, traction control, and stability control. This failed on my truck as I was driving as well. Thankfully again, no accident with this failure. There is no new factory part to replace this unit either. I had this repaired with a remanufactured unit that failed in one month, then it was replaced again and seems to be fixed for now. These are keystone components to an automobile and it is unacceptable for them to just stop working and have no available parts to the responsible consumer. This leads to owners having a useless worthless vehicle rotting in the driveway or a highly unsafe vehicle on the road to those irresponsible. I want to also shed light to the fact that these issues encompass model years from 2009 to brand new 2026 Ram trucks. There are people with 2025-2026 Ram trucks
2014 Ram 1500 complaints
Owner reports filed with NHTSA about this vehicle, newest first and reproduced as filed. They are unverified accounts: one proves nothing, and a pattern across many is the thing worth reading. Back to the full 2014 record →
Check Engine light came on with a code P0463. This indicates that the fuel level sensor is bad. This is a VERY common issue on these trucks. It causes the vehicle to no longer go into "ECO" mode which is wasting fuel. This happens every time I fill the gas tank and does not go away until the tank reaches 3/4 tank. The part is garbage and is known to fail.
As is clearly a very common defect, my exhaust manifold bolts broke and the manifold warped. This is the second time this has happened. RAM knows about this problem. In fact, it is so well known that it is called "the HEMI tick". The fact that such a shoddy part has continued to be put on millions of trucks and other vehicles should warrant a recall.
Electric Power Steering failed, luckily while in driveway. C2217 is the fault code. Could have resulted in significant vehicle(s) damage or bodily harm if this had occurred at normal driving speeds.
At 112,682 miles, instrument cluster warning lights for brake, ABS, and traction control illuminated. Scan of vehicle shows several brake sytem related fault codes, root cause fault code being "C2200-49 Anti-lock Brake Module Internal: Internal Electronic Failure". Called Stellantis Ram dealer service department and was informed repair parts on back order, they have been waiting over a year for parts for vehicles with identical failure, and do not know when or even if repair part will be available.
Lost power steering driving down the highway. Service power steering light started flashing. This made vehicle very difficult to turn onto shoulder. Been to private shop has to replace entire rack cost unknown yet.
Upon starting my truck, the Service Power Steering light came on, and my steering wheel was locked, rendering me unable to move the truck and stranded. The system was scanned and reported that the internal EPS module had failed.
On the morning of May 26, 2026, I was driving at 30 MPH on a neighborhood road. After a few miles, and while approaching a green to caution traffic light. I applied the brake and felt a definite tug in the steering wheel and immediately, completely lost power steering. While at the red traffic light and a full stop, I placed the truck in park stopped and restarted the engine, and the power steering was restored. It happened again within a half mile again while applying the brake. Although difficult to steer at 25 MPH, it is incredibly difficult to turn the wheel when at a full stop. However, by stopping and restarting the engine it enabled me to navigate typical parking maneuvers for a short time.
C2200-49 code received for ABS control module internal fault. No replacement part available.
Loss of power steering when driving almost went into oncoming traffic, Garage says it is the rack and pinion
I turned the vehicle to park in a diagonal spot, and it would not stop. I had taken my foot off the gas just prior to starting the turn and then tapped the gas in the turn. After I tapped it an physically brough my foot back to the seat and then placed it on the brake, it accelerated. It drove over a curb, through a metal barrier and into a glass door and stopped at the side mirrors while my foot was firmly pressing the brake down. The cops on scene said the video looked like I was accelerating, but like I said I was firmly pushing down on the brake. Only the left rear brake light worked and is hard to see because the plastic cover is damaged. Prior to the accident the vehicle did not have the ABS light blinking, but it was blinking when I retrieved my personal items out of the vehicle 2 days later. There was a woman bending over/ in the corner by counter in the store and had the vehicle not stopped when it did, she would have been hit; when she stood up mere inches from the trunk, this put me, the driver into shock.
Front gas tank strap rotted out and broke causing the trap to carve into the drive shaft.im lucky i had just come off the parkway but drive shaft was looked at as dangerous and could split in half .It is know there is a recall on the straps and an extended repair of 12 years. They emailed me saying they won’t cover either repair. Also saying the driveshaft is not covered but the problem they admit to caused the second repair? I have a repair bill and a number of other people on the internet that have had the same issue from this broken tank strap. My truck was at the westbury dealer a number of times over the years and they never once brought this up to me. Please help me. I am retired 67 years old and I feel I’m being taken advantage of. T. Y PS I could have been serious injured
Yes there is a issue with the ABS control modules in these trucks, and they are nowhere to be found, it causes a safty risk bec you lose control if u need to hard break and possibly lose your steering. Dodge/ram doesnt want to take responsibility for them and its crazy, this could kill someone and i feel it should have a recall, the warning lights are the traction control/emergency break and your abs light. Irs absolutely insane that i am having to even compalin about this when this is a very important part of the truck
The ABS module failed. Replacement parts are no longer being manufactured. My traction control, ABS, and cruise control no longer function as a result. Also getting warnings that the trailer braking system has a failure - these warnings started after the ABS module failed.
Driving on roadway in wet weather, SERVICE STEERING warning on dashboard and vehicle steering becomes very stiff to the point of being unable to turn vehicle at all. Currently waiting on vehicle repair.
Ram is doing recalls on abs braking systems and trailer hitch problems. I have a 2014 with the same problems and there are other owners complaining bout the same thing on forums. Why are you letting Ram go on with problem and only going back to 2025?. It's ridiculous for them to slide and not repair a problem tht has been going on for years. And Ram dealers want $2300 to $3000 to repair.
I had my ABS Light and Brake light come on in August 2023. My cruise control and my brake controller would no longer work. Took it to a dealer for repairs and they diagnosed it as needing a ABS Contol Modular. It has been on back order since that time. I was first told 3 mo, then 6 mo. Etc. I visited the dealership last week and they told me the part will no longer be manufactured. I have a low mileage vehicle that is worthless to trade in or sell because of this brake issue. The part number is 68228991AD ABS Control Modular.
Steering takes force to turn, making noise and feeling like turns are jolted while maneuvering. While making right handed turn, the truck requires a crawling speed, to ensure steering is on route. With the feeling worsening, the fear is that it will fail to turn at a crucial moment and cause injury to the driver or any other surrounding vehicles.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the ABS, BRAKE, and an unknown warning light were illuminated. The contact stated that approximately one year later, while driving approximately 5 MPH in the rain, the steering wheel jerked left and right continuously, and the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle stopped facing on-coming traffic. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was then taken to a dealer for an oil change and spark plugs replacement; however, after driving away, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired because the parts were on back order. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 68,000.
Have a 2014 Ram 1500 that has a ABS malfunction light showing. Took truck in and dealership service department wanted $1500.00 for a new ABS module that has failed. The part has been on backorder from Mopar/Stellantis for months. I am glad I did not give them $1500.00 (+ future labor costs) to fix for something I have been calling the dealership for months on inventory status. My truck has been sitting in their possession for almost 10 months now, rendering me loss of my vehicle use for the entire time of 10 months. Ridiculous. I reached out to Ram Cares and filed a complaint. They have issues with the dealership returning calls as I have. Something is not right here. Again, this is a part on backorder for months that has failed according to dealership and truck is potentially unsafe to drive. I asked Ram Cares to verify if truck is road worthy to drive safely with the failed ABS module as is. Ram Cares still has communication issues with the dealership and even they are getting ignored. I am beyond frustrated and at a loss (literally) of not being able to use my truck for an excessive length of time. I filed a complaint also with the State of California BAR department and they said to file a complaint with you as well. The part number the dealership said I need is: abs module 68228991AD
Any water will disable the abs, traction control. Water shorts out the abs module making abs system inop. I have replaced 2 abs modules. They work great until you drive in the rain. This is a huge safety concern.
This complaint concerns failure of the remedy for Safety Recall Z46 / NHTSA Campaign 22V406 involving the high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) on a 3.0L diesel pickup. The HPFP had previously been replaced under the recall by an authorized dealer. About 19 months later, while the vehicle was at a dealership for service, the replacement HPFP failed again during dealer testing. The dealer documented metal contamination throughout the fuel system caused by the HPFP failure. The dealer then replaced the contaminated fuel system components. After those repairs and during post-repair test driving, the vehicle developed new bottom-end engine noise. The dealer later documented connecting rod bearing damage / rod knock and recommended complete engine replacement. The vehicle had been brought in with no bottom-end engine noise, and the dealer’s intake inspection documented oil condition as OK. An independent oil analysis later showed the engine oil was normal and did not indicate long-term lubrication failure. This suggests the engine damage occurred acutely after the HPFP failure and resulting contamination event, not from routine wear. This condition creates a serious safety risk because HPFP failure can cause loss of fuel pressure, engine stall, or loss of motive power, and the subsequent engine damage raises the risk of sudden engine failure or seizure while driving. That could increase the risk of a crash, especially in traffic or at highway speeds. The failure was confirmed by the deal
So my truck has the abs module part that has failed on it. Over the time it’s failed we have seen things go out on it that directly relate to safety being a concern. First is the fact that sometimes the brakes fail completely and cause concern that I might hit another vehicle or person. Second is the issue of the truck very rarely accelerating without driver interaction this is a safety issue because the uncontrolled speed could cause additional accidents. Lastly is the issue where the truck will very rarely go into an undesirable gear will driving resulting in immediate action to be taken by the driver. All of these incidents were taken up with multiple dodge dealers and Stelantis motor corp without action taken on their part. All parties have stated that repair is impossible due to lack of availability. When asked to provided assistance to get truck repaired at a different location without cost to driver, driver was told no. Driver was also told no after driver stated this was now becoming an increased risk.
Fuel Tank Strap Mounting Bracket failed on 2014 Ram 1500. Part covered under FCA Warranty Extension #X75. Due to failure, driveshaft was deeply scored and recommended be replaced due to safety concerns.
My cruise control is not working right, sometimes it don't turn on, but when it does, there are times that it will automatically shut off while driving., or it won't let me cancel it
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. While driving approximately 15 MPH and making a left turn, the steering wheel and the check engine warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the steering became extremely difficult to turn. The contact stopped, turned off, and restarted the vehicle; however, the steering was stiff and difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the steering sensor and the rack and pinion gears needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 260,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the steering wheel became stiff, and the vehicle failed to turn as intended. The contact stated that the message "Service Power Steering System" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the residence. An independent mechanic arrived at the residence and diagnosed the vehicle with steering rack failure. The vehicle was not repaired due to parts being on back order. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 201,110.
To my best assessment I was driving and while turning the steering wheel was like it was locked and then it loosen up.I made it home and the next morning cranked up foot on brakes a red circle light came on red ⚠️ saying steering needs serving.I have scheduled a diagnostic appointment. Not Pryor to me leaving the house on 4/4/2026 did I experienced this incident which put me and my family’s life in danger.Intermittently the steering wheel will turn.I thanked God he didn’t allow me to panic.
The vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power steering while in operation, creating a safety concern due to reduced ability to control the vehicle. At the time of failure, multiple electrical and control module faults were present. The vehicle was inspected by a dealership, which diagnosed the issue as requiring rack and pinion replacement. The owner paid out of pocket for this repair. Dealership documentation shows the steering failure occurred alongside multiple electrical system faults. During the same service period, the dealership also performed multiple safety recall repairs, including control module and software updates. These systems are integrated, and the steering failure occurred in conjunction with electrical and control module issues later addressed under recall. This raises concern that the original failure may be related to defects now identified under active safety recalls. The owner incurred significant repair costs prior to recall correction. This situation presents a potential safety related defect involving steering and electrical system interaction.
EPS light comes on intermittently and locks steering while driving at random. Checked all fuses and conctions all good. Battery was replaced 1 month ago so Battery good and power good. Wiring is good.
I was driving normal and almost lost control when electric power sterring rack and pinion went out. And after doing some research looks like this is a huge issue with all these trucks. Amd dodge refuses to recall the vehicle. Someone can die from this
Fuel sensor failure. Began around 60,000 miles. Unless tank is full tank will display as empty. This also causes the check engine light to be on. Causes me to never know how much fuel is in the tank. I have nearly run out of fuel several times. This is a known issues across Dodge RAM forums for this era of RAM. It is not safe to operate at speed and run out of fuel unexpectedly.
Power steering issues
Power steering stopped working.
I was driving to the store and suddenly the steering wheel got hard, and I almost hit another car, but fortunately nothing happened. And from then on, the power steering in my car stopped working.
While changing oil, noticed the front fuel tank strap was disconnected from the frame. Upon closer inspection, the outboard front fuel tank strap mounting location on the frame rusted through, allowing the T portion if the strap to fall lose. There is a similar recall for 08-12 Ram 1500's, but clearly this issue persists for more than just those model years
Odometer Fraud. The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. It was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a dealer sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 140,000; however, at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 238,999.
The recall for the loss of signal from the tone ring in recall 66A was supposed to allow the vehicle to use the signal from the camshaft positioning sensor. This recall was completed on my truck but the loss of signal from a bad tone ring has resulted in the same condition as the original recall which is inoperability of the vehicle. This still poses a safety threat as the recall did not correct the issue. The manufacturer is now claiming that the recall period is expired and the tone ring failure will not be covered. the repair is $1700 and may still result in a failure of the vehicle to maintain propulsion as it did for me on Jan 30th, 2026. I have a case open with Stellantis to try and get an answer to this, but it is still a safety concern. case number 895950295
The ETC light came on and I brought the truck to my mechanic. The code for crankshaft position sensor came up. Apparently a faulty cps can cause the engine to shut down without warning. This is an obvious safety issue which Ram doesn’t want to repair.
I currently have a failed ABS module on my truck. The warning lights have come on for brakes, ABS and traction control. I attempted to go to my local dealer but was told the part to replace has been backordered for over 2 years. I am unable to locate a new part, or a company that will rebuild the ABS module. I've had this condition for ~ 9 months. Additionally, just recently within the last 3 weeks I've been experiencing intermittent loss of power steering while driving. This issue has typically been lasting 1-2 seconds, which can be very problematic especially while in a turn. When the steering goes out, there is a quick flash of a warning to service power steering on the dash, then the warning goes away.
The crankshaft position sensor and tone wheel failed which is the recall for 66A, was driving truck 45mph down heavily traffic roadway, truck died and stopped in the middle of road. took truck to dealership and dealer charged diagnostic fee explained to them that issue sounded like a crankshaft issue and was showing crankshaft codes. They refused to look into this and do the recall. Went and picked the truck up took it to a local mechanic, mechanic diagnosed issue come to found out it was indeed the crankshaft sensor and tone wheel that was the issue, purchased mopar oem parts and installed in vehicle, once repaired vehicle started and ran perfectly.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the rear brake light, traction control, and ABS warning light were illuminated. The cruise control was inoperable. An independent mechanic was contacted, who scanned the vehicle and determined that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The local dealer was contacted, and it was diagnosed and determined that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the part being on backorder. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
1. Front fuel tank strap bracket has corroded and strap no longer attaches, my vehicle is available for inspection upon request. (appears this was a problem for 2009-2012 ram trucks) 2. If the tank falls, fuel will let loose with the opportunity for fire. 3. Yes, (independent service center). My mechanic wants me to ratchet strap the tank up to run the fuel low (because the tank will need to be dropped to repair/replace). He can't do the work. I need to contact a welding shop to weld new brackets to my truck frame. 4. No, there was no physical accident up to this point. The strap is hanging and unable to reattach because the frame bracket is rotted out. 5. No, just saw the strap hanging under the truck. (Additionally, my truck doesn't come up as having a current recall for airbags but i have the airbag light on the dash. I see NHTSA recall #'s 17V302000, 16EO41000, 15V534000 and 15V460000 all apply to airbags with my trucks year)
Intermittent power steering issues, especially at low speeds and in cold weather.
The electric power steering module failed while driving and could have resulted in an accident. After searching online there are Alot of similiar cases with the same model truck and is a serious safety concern.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal while coming to a stop, the rear wheels locked up. The ABS, traction control, parking brake, and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where the engine was replaced, and the contact was informed that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was diagnosed and repaired out-of-pocket. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
There was a previous recall for my vehicle July 21, 2015 R36 15V•459. The recall was handled at the dealership to fix the recall. But now I'm experiencing the exact symptoms of Recall R36. Steering Wheel: •Ghost right blinker - When engaged, all lights are on and in working condition and blink at a normal rate on the outside of the vehicle. •No menu navigation •No cruise control •Can't control radio •Can't control phone calls •No working horn •Active airbag light Symptoms are constant all angles of the steering wheel. There is no noise coming from the steering column. Airbag light is on all the time. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. My safety is put at risk for having a failed horn, I cannot alert others. And with the airbag light on, either the airbag can spontaneously deploy causing an accident or if I'm in an accident, they won't deploy at all. If I can't access my menu, I'm unable to see any vehicle notifications or alerts for my engine, transmission, and safety systems, including Perform Service reminders, tire pressure warnings, oil life percentage, low oil pressure and potential emissions or electrical issues. No, it has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center yet. No, it has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. First appeared February 2, 2026
The braking system abs failed, stopped at traffic light foot on brake petal holding then brake petal goes to floor and vehicle surges forward, take vehicle to brake shop told that rear brake pads needed replacing replaced things working fine next couple of months. then same thing happened again, get vehicle brake system inspected everything checked out. debate whether master cylinder or abs - later decided to replace master cylinder -working good for a couple of months then it happens again- needing to stop behind traffic at four way stop- brake petal goes to floor I don't understand how abs system can override human eyes seeing dangerous situation ahead 7-
While driving into a turn at an intersection, the steering pulled hard, them completely loss all power steering with the steering indicator light on the dash. The vehicle has had no prior issues with steering. Due to slow speed, I was able to stop the vehicle and gain control over it. The vehicle now has no power steering and the light remains on the dash.
Tailgate was dropping open while driving, and sometimes would not latch when shut without slamming it several times. Took it to Gupton Dodge Dealership 37172 and they performed the recall. A few months later the same problems started occurring again, then after a while longer the tailgate actually would not open at all anymore. I took it back to the same dealership to notify them that their recall repair failed. They told me the recall had already been done and it was working when it left their shop, so I would need to pay for any further repairs which would require replacing the entire actuator assembly. I brought the truck back home and removed the tailgate latch cover to assess the problem myself. I found that the original actuator was still on and had never been replaced in the recall work. I also found that by cleaning up the metal actuator parts with carb cleaner spray, and lubing it with dry lube and white lithium grease at critical movement spots, the actuator and tailgate latches started working perfectly again. I now realize that they very likely did the same thing for the recall, just cleaned and lubed it, and no parts replaced or added. I expect it will now work for another few more months before dust and moisture will cause it to need cleaning and lubing again in order to keep it working. Serious safety hazard, not just from dropped cargo! My wife closed tailgate once while my 6 year old grandson was standing next to her. As soon as she stepped away the heavy tai

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
