2014 Ram 1500 complaints

Power steering failed. Luckily it failed while I was driving, had my wife been driving she would not have been able to steer it. Truck is almost impossible to steer with the power assist failed. It is at the dealer now. EPS failure

I own a 2014 Ram 1500. The ABS module stopped working in it sometime in 2021. The new part was on backorder with no estimated delivery date. At the time I put a used ABS module in it and it lasted about a year before it went out again. This is a known problem that Ram is having with their ABS systems on several different models. The ABS module part # 68228991AC has since been discontinued by Ram. I also own a 2018 2500 Ram that had the same issue. From what I have read online the NHSTA is investigating that year and model truck and a class action lawsuit has been filed out of California. The NHSTA needs to broaden their investigation into other years makes and models of Ram trucks. It is unfair that Ram is placing their customers lives in jeopardy instead of doing the right thing and recalling these defective vehicles.

The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS system and air suspension computer warning light illuminated and failed to operate as needed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with ABS computer module failure and air suspension system failure. The air suspension system was repaired; however, the ABS computer module was not replaced due to parts not being available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that parts were not available. The failure mileage was approximately 91,000.

The power steering intermittently goes out and locks up the steering wheel. Almost wrecked leaving a gas station had to pull over and disconnect battery terminals to reset it and it finally started back working. Drove home and turned the truck off, when I turned it back on it was locked up again with the error flashing on the cluster. It started doing this May 17, 2024. Haven’t drove vehicle since then.

I have experienced power steering loss intermittently in this vehicle for the past two years. It occurs at unexpected times during both local and interstate travel. The unexpected loss of power steering creates problems because the vehicle suddenly becomes very difficult to steer. This has caused several near crashes due to making turns and lane changes.

This vehicle lost power while driving and would not re-start. A message came on dash saying “service electronic throttle” and then the vehicle burst into flames. There is a recall for other models with the same engine but not this vehicle. It is a safety hazard that almost killed me.

Complete loss of power steering. The vehicle was driven then shut off. When the vehicle was restarted, there was no power steering. The steering is so hard to turn that the truck is not drivable. This would be a serious safety concern if the steering were to stop functioning while driving.

The steering is hard (like no power steering) when at a slow speed or at start from stop. Steering is not as tight/hard when at a normal speed. The ease of steering changes mid turn.

Instrument cluster/panel Flickers and goes completely dark stay dark/blackout the majority of the time. There is a recall for the year 2014 but only if manufactured between July -August. Ours manufactured in October .this has been an on and off occurrence since maybe 2018 when we took it to the dealer early on it didn’t happen so they couldn’t address it. However it is off more than on and we have seen the recall. The blackout restricts our ability to see and monitor gages.

Electric steering system

Air ride suspension warning light came on with the ABS electrical warning and lost of cruise control. At the same time the truck became almost uncontrollable.

Power steering is intermittently not functioning while driving. There is a open recall for other year Ram 1500's with the exact same power steering module and set up. This needs to be recalled before someone else is killed.

Out of nowhere the power steering has gone out. Trying to start back up and now power steering light is on.

Front fuel tank bracket mount has failed at the frame. Front of fuel tank was hanging down below frame of truck. Rear bracket appears to be failing at same rate. Had they both failed at the same time the fuel tank would have fallen off into the roadway endangering others with a large object and 20+ gallons of diesel spilling. Along with the tank laying in the road the vehicle would have stopped running causing me to be immobile in the road leaving potential for a collision from the rear. No warning lamps or symptoms were present at the time. I can provide more detailed pictures when I remove tank to seek alternative repairs

STEERING WHEEL SERVICE LIGHT ON CAN NOT STEER WHILE FIRST STARTING FOR 5 MINUTES THEN IT SHUTS OFF

Despite numerous attempts to resolve the matter, I've faced obstacles and a lack of clarity from Dodge Corporation. Recently, my 2014 Ram 1500 Laramie experienced a sudden ABS light issue, affecting traction and cruise control. This has made driving perilous in Texas's hazardous conditions. We've been quoted $2000 (part itself is $1300) for repairs, but the required part is on backorder, with no ETA provided by Dodge Corporate. This situation poses a significant safety risk to my family, yet we're unable to proceed due to part unavailability and a lack of transparency. I request urgent assistance or guidance on resolving this matter. Question #1- The ABS module in the 2014 Ram 1500 Laramie has failed, affecting the ABS system, traction control, and cruise control. The specific part number is 68228991AD. The failed component, the ABS module, should be available for inspection upon request. Question #2- The failure of the ABS module has compromised the functionality of the ABS system, which is crucial for maintaining stability and control on slippery roads, especially in hazardous conditions. This puts the safety of the driver, passengers, and others on the road at risk, particularly in situations where ABS is necessary to prevent accidents. Electric power assist steering failure. I started to notice that the effort to turn the became much more difficult, over the period of two weeks I have noticed the power assist is basically nonexistent. It is a dangerous situation and quite expensive. The truck should be recalled for this issue, and currently has 98,000 miles.

While driving the vehicle the power steering failed making the vehicle very hard to steer. This is a major safety issue. With the inability to steer my life and the lives of the passengers in my vehicle and others on the road were put at risk. This is an ongoing problem that needs to be addressed by RAM.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel system and magnetic spark wheel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 157,000.

The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, he observed smoke emanating from the engine compartment, prompting him to pull to the shoulder of the roadway. After a visual inspection of the engine compartment, the contact observed fuel covering the engine. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the fuel injectors. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to the remedy for NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel); the VIN was included, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 136,000.

Failure of ABS module. Unable to replace due to manufacturer hold on part. Not safe to drive and nometa on when parts will be available. This is a known issue with many owners experiencing failures.

Recall z46 states Dealers will replace the HPFP, and inspect and replace, if necessary, additional fuel system components, free of charge. After my dealer replaced fuel pump additional fuel system components failed, after dealer inspection I was told they only would change HPFP not honoring full recall for replacement of additional fuel system components. Putting me at risk of the original problem this recall was supposed to fix. My vehicle was fine with no engine check lights before I brought it for recall z46 after the first 10 miles since the recall i have 3 check engine light codes relating to fuel system.now it's sitting at the dealership lot with repairs to be completed.

I was driving back home after a long day of work, but I stopped at the gas station first. After putting gas.I started to pull out of the gas station, when the truck suddenly turned off. I turned it on again and a couple miles ahead it started to loss speed. I was going 65 suddenly went down to 40 20 started to stall had to exit the fwy before it stopped. Auto shop say it's the engine. Cost to repair $8,000.00.

Vehicle was sitting in garage. Started vehicle and dash warning for power steering illuminated and no power steering is available.

Regarding [XXX] . I made an appointment to get the Important Safety Recall for the High Pressure Fuel Pump repaired. When I took the vehicle in for the repair on [XXX] I was informed that they did not have the part and they had been waiting a year for parts. Why I wasn't informed of this when I made the appointment is beyond me. If this Safety Recall is so important why is this dealership unable to obtain the parts? Fuel Level Sensor A Circuit - P0463. Yes, available for inspection. The Fuel level sensor cuts out and stops reporting fuel levels. This can lead to running out of gas on the highway or other dangerous situations that put the driver and others at risk. Also, the computer monitors stop reporting, therefore other aspects of the vehicle are compromised when the fuel level sensor stops working. The dealer confirms this is a common problem on this vehicle. Yes the vehicle was inspected by the dealer. The warning lamp check engine light comes on when the system fails. there is no prior warning.

The power steering completely failed. Yes! It is available for inspection! If this had occurred during highway speeds (80 mph here) ... OMG! No, the vehicle is not drivable (no steering) so it has not been inspected by anyone but me. The vehicle was fine the day before. This apparently happened while it was turned off overnight. The red steering wheel with the exclamation point is flashing and it cannot be steered at all.

The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle drove over a bump and heard an abnormal scraping sound coming from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. Upon inspection of the vehicle, the contact discovered that the front fuel tank strap pulled through the frame and began to rub against the driveshaft. As a result of the failure, the fuel tank started to hang off the vehicle. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 171,000.

I have a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500. I share the same problem as thousands of other Ram owners who have a faulty ABS module in their trucks. They are not under recall, Ram/Dodge/Stellantis could not be bothered to dig further into the problem. They have discontinued the part (68228991AD) and similar cross reference part numbers. My ABS doesn't engage and when someone uses an unsafe driving maneuver in the middle of the interstate and I have to slam the brakes, my truck goes into "limp" mode and the ABS doesn't function properly. Someone is going to die if Stellantis doesn't address the issue from their faulty parts. I called several dealerships who say they don't have the part, and that they do not expect to get anymore due to discontinuation of the part. After doing some research online, it appears that thousand of vehicles with that part from 2014-2016 are affected. Please help us take action and hold the auto brand accountable for negligent handling of a manufacturer issue not replacing or providing solution for parts that are critical to driver's safety. The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at approximately 60 MPH, the steering wheel seized. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway. The Service Power Steering System warning light was illuminated. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the power steering functionality returned; however, the failure recurred when the contact arrived at the residence. The vehicle was hauled to the local dealer; where it was diagnosed that there was rodent damage on the wiring of the steering rack, and the Power Steering rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,077.

Turned on vehicle and had complete loss of power steering. No previous issues of this. Unable to get power steering to reset or return to vehicle.

Power steering assist quit working while on the interstate. The steering wheel was extremely hard to turn and indicator light came on. The light was a red steering wheel with red exclamation next to it. I was able to safely pull over. I shut the truck off and looked to see if any fluid was leaking. Did not see any indication of fluid loss. Restarted the truck and steering worked normal. The same thing happened just as I was entering my driveway. I restarted the vehicle multiple times after that, and the red steering wheel indicator flashes immediately. Power steering has been completely lost. This all happened in the same day. I am very thankful that I was driving in a straight line at the moment of steering loss. I am not sure I would have been to avoid an accident if I were on a turn during that moment.

Exhaust manifolds on 5.7 Litre Hemi’s, bolts that hold exhaust manifold to head break often resulting in exhaust manifold to warp, common issue on various years of 5.7 hemi, the exhaust gases leaking from around the manifold therefore can pass through the firewall, and cabin vent system causing the occupants inside cab to breath dangerous exhaust gases, also resulting in uncontrolled exhaust levels that are not being passed through exhaust system properly equaling higher exhaust emissions. Department of Transportation (DOT) put Tractor Trailers out of service for similar issues due to the health safety risks. This is a common issue with Dodge Hemi 5.7 litre engines of various years and should be a serious issue as breathing carbon monoxide and traces of carbon dioxide are very harmful. Please look into this, the dealership has repaired mine twice with the same faulty parts and now it is bad again and said vehicle only has 70,000 miles on it. Thank you. This is third time first one occurred in 2018 was covered under warranty and only had around 25,000 miles on it.

04/20/23 error code P0018 (Engine Warning Light) popped up. 06/07/23 error code P0018 (Engine Warning Light) popped up. Took for repair. 01/09/24 error code P0018 (engine Warning Light) popped up again. Took for repair. Took 52 days to repair. 02/26/24 error code P0018 (Engine Warning Light) popped up again. Took for repair. While traveling and then braking to stop, engine "shuddered" very hard, had to wait a couple seconds before engine was able to function properly to move vehicle from roadway. vehicle has been sent and or repaired by Carmax and Orange Coast Chrysler Dodge Dealer #491. Orange Coast Dodge has also replaced Crankshaft Sensors. Suggested to replace the PCM but changed their view and now they want to tear down engine.

Truck's power steering goes out, I have to restart truck a few times for it to work again. Service Power steering comes on when it's not working. It has not gone out while driving but I am fearful that it will.

Started off with intermittent power steering failure which has now led into complete power steering failure

When attempting to brake the vehicle's brake peddle does not engage and goes directly to the floor without engaging the vehicle's brakes. The vehicle has been inspected by numerous RAM dealers going back to 2015, and until 2024, no dealer had been previously able to duplicate the issue (vehicle available for inspection). Being unable to stop a moving vehicle during normal or emergency situations posses an immense safety risk to the operator, passengers, other motorists, and pedestrians. The issue was finally recreated by a Ram dealer in Florida on [XXX]. The entire braking system was inspected numerous times by various dealers in Texas, Arizona, and Florida. The brakes failure to engage happens randomly with out any prior warning lights or other vehicle indications, and first occurred in 2017 in Arizona. The only indicator for the potential of the brake failure is when the outside temperature is 75° or higher. However the presence of these temperatures does not guarantee the brakes will fail to engage just that the potential is more likely. I was driving down the highway and all of a sudden my power steering went out and the truck jerked, nearly causing me to roll the vehicle. I managed to get it wheel straight enough that I did not wreck. Never been more scared in my life. I got off the highway near a local shop and the mechanic says this is an on going problem with the rack and pinions in my make and model year truck.

Crankshaft Tone Reluctor Wheel failed while driving. Caused crank/no run situation. Towed to dealer, was told there was a recall(66A / 23V-411) to flash software to remedy situation. Software did not correct the issue and was told parts needed to be replaced and recall did not cover parts or labor. Parts were replaced ($1635 parts and labor). Truck is back on the road. Will be submitting a claim for reimbursement. Why a known issue is not covered entirely, puzzles me.

Intermittent power steering. Works great then all of a sudden have no steering, then a minute later it’s back working. Other times it is very choppy steering.
