2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE 350+

Defect. Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2022-2025 S-Class, EQE SUV, EQE, EQS SUV and EQS vehicles. Please see the recall report for a complete list of models. Software in the Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) may cause an incorrect external pedestrian warning sound while reversing. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 141, "Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid Electric Vehicles."

Risk. A vehicle that makes an incorrect sound may fail to alert pedestrians of a reversing vehicle, increasing the risk of crash.

Remedy. Dealers will update the AVAS software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 1, 2025. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2025070005.

Defect. Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2023 EQE 350 4MATIC and EQE 350+ vehicles. The rim inserts may detach from the wheels while driving.

Risk. Wheel rim insert detachment can create a hazard for other road users, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect and replace the rim inserts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 25, 2025. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2025030016.

Defect. Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2023 EQE 350 vehicles equipped with comfort suspension. The headlights may be incorrectly adjusted due to a software error in the headlight control unit.

Risk. Incorrectly adjusted headlights can reduce the visibility of oncoming traffic and impair the dynamic driving control performance. Both scenarios increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will update the headlight control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed by February 2, 2024. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

The roof of the vehicle is rusting just behind the rear sunroof. The vehicle has never been in an accident or damaged. The manufacturer has not pained a significant portion of the roof.

As i was driving on the interstate, i heard a gunshot-like explosion and the sunroof glass broke. Glass shards fell into the car. I had to slow down to 30 mph and exit the interstate. There was no obvious road debris or cars around me at the time of the incident. I drove the car to the dealership where it is for repair

The vehicle has had repeated failures related to the air conditioning system and abnormal battery drain when the heating system is used. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership four times for the same issue and has spent more than two months in total at the dealership for repairs. The technicians have indicated that they have not been able to properly repair the problem. The vehicle continues to have unresolved defects affecting its normal operation and reliability. The vehicle has been at the dealer again from 3/26/2026 to present.

Description of Incident: On January 19, 2026, this vehicle was involved in a severe frontal collision. Despite significant structural damage resulting in a total loss (GEICO Claim: 0445628610101151), multiple critical safety systems failed to activate. Specific System Failures: SRS (Airbags): None of the 10 airbags deployed despite a high-energy impact that met deployment thresholds. Active Brake Assist: The system failed to monitor traffic or apply autonomous braking to reduce impact severity. Steering/Stability Assist: No steering intervention or collision warnings were provided during the pre-crash phase. GUARD 360: Collision detection monitoring failed to log the event. Safety Risk: The failure of the airbags to deploy during a high-energy impact represents a catastrophic failure of safety systems mandated by FMVSS 208 and directly increased the risk of occupant injury. Warning Symptoms: The dashboard was clear of all safety faults. No SRS or restraint system warning lights were present prior to the incident. Inspection Status: As of January 22, 2026, the vehicle is being held at Mercedes-Benz of Stevens Creek (San Jose, CA). It is awaiting a formal technical inspection from Mercedes-Benz Corporate. The vehicle is available for NHTSA inspection.

My Mercedes-Benz EQE has an intermittent but dangerous brake failure. When braking lightly and then needing to brake harder, the brake pedal becomes soft and fades, sinking further with almost no increase in braking power. The vehicle continues moving forward even when pressing the pedal harder. I must quickly release the pedal and press it again to regain braking. This creates a serious risk of crashing, especially at low speeds or in traffic. The issue is happening more frequently. Mercedes-Benz of Encino told me “everything is good,” but the issue continues. Another dealership (Mercedes Keys European) refused to even inspect the vehicle. A loaner EQE I drove for several days did NOT have this issue, confirming my vehicle’s braking system is not normal. This is a major safety defect, and I am requesting NHTSA to investigate.

September 8th, 2024 @ approximately 3pm My Mercedes EQE 350+ accelerated to a high speed when the front tire touched a curb. The car ran over the curb and into the parking lot. I was able to steer the car but the brakes didn't work. The car kept going through a stop sign and into the intersection. Luckily there were no cars in the intersection and I finally thought to turn the car off. It then stopped. The whole rubber covering over the battery was destroyed from the rocks on the curb. The battery was severely damaged also. The car was at the dealership from Friday Sept 13th until around Oct 9th. They finished their testing and sent the info to corporate Mercedes on Wed Sept. 18th. I finally heard back from Mercedes corporate on Oct 3rd, 2024. They said that they didn't find any malfunctions. During this waiting period I was pressured by the Mercedes dealership to file an Insurance Claim. I said I wasn't filing a claim until I heard back from Mercedes Corporate. There have been several cases online where the same issue has occurred by other Mercedes owners. One was almost exactly the same as mine. The only difference was that the car stopped when the tires were flattened. I have been driving for 50 years and have never experienced anything like this. My nephew was in the car with me and I repeatedly said to him the brakes aren't working. The car was a write off. I had to file an insurance claim.

On [XXX] an alert pop up on dash board saying to stop the car. I was driving I [XXX]. When stopped car showed an alert to Tow the car to dealer because a malfunction in the system. Called tow company and went to the dealer. They told me that day that the magnet part that regenerates when brake was broken. After 15 days I called back for an updated then they told me a software update is necessary and will be released on May 2024. On [XXX] dealership contacted me and gave me my car back with no repair or software update installed. There are reports that this car model stops when an error occurs, if they don't fix the software could be an accident. Driving almost 60 mph, car shuddered and went to 20 mph then 10 mph in seconds. Drove on the shoulder, only 650 miles since I leased the car. Second time has happened in four weeks.

THIS IS A SUDDEN ACCELATION INCIDENT in reverse with a brake incident. On January 11, 2024 shortly after 12:00 p.m., I was leaving my home and reversing out of my garage. As the tail of the car went slightly beyond the garage door, it stopped abruptly as if detecting something in the path of the car behind it. As I was looking at the rear camera to see why it stopped and what was in the path and contemplating whether I should get out and go see in person (as I did not clearly see anything in the rear camera) the car started moving again at what felt like a high-speed, backwards as I was still in reverse. I tried to brake but the brakes did not work. So, I started turning so as not to go directly into the home of the neighbor across the street. I turned sharply enough that the car went diagonally into my next-door neighbor's yard to the left of our home. The car continued to move in reverse and I kept steering to avoid the car hitting my neighbor's home. The car hit and knocked over the neighbor's in-ground basketball on the opposite side of the driveway. I believe the car slowed a bit after that impact but kept going in reverse heading back into the street in front of my home. Still steering and hitting the brakes, I remember the car spinning in the street and then had somewhat of an elliptical pattern and was headed back across the yard to my same neighbors home but hit the parkway tree in front of my home and stopped with that impact. ***THIS IS NOT MY CAR*** My car was in for service at the dealer. The dealer provided this EQE350 as a loaner. The loaner was electric, which exploded in our garage and burned the house down. The dwelling is 100% loss and 90% of contents were lost. We have pictures and videos from ring doorbells showing the combustion, and you can hear the thermal runaway. Please help us. This vehicle is extremely unsafe to drive and will cause an accident. I am constantly having to fight the steering as the car constantly fights the direction I wish to turn or maneuver. In addition several times I tried to break to slow the vehicle and the brakes did not allow me to engage them. I have been driving since 1980s. If something is not done to get this vehicle off the road quickly someone will get hurt.
