I purchased this vehicle used and with 35,000 miles on it, took it to Mazda for an oil change. The windshield wipers never seemed to work that well, and Mazda told me that the actual wiper arms (not blades) were installed on the wrong sides of the windshield (ie: Driver arm was on the passenger side, and Passenger arm was on the driver side). I removed them arms and reinstalled on the correct side and now the wipers work fine. I am reporting this as I assume they were installed incorrectly when the vehicle was manufactured, and I'm concerned that other vehicles may be affected.

The screen in the middle of Mazda vehicle starts selecting menu, change the radio station or selects/plays whatever it likes. It suddenly activates some functions on its own. Most likely similar issue as in this document - https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10164268-0001.pdf This is dangerous for the driver as the automatic change in the screen and menu items distracts the driver which may cause accident and put life in danger. This is generic problem and searching on the internet, lot of people are suffering with this issue. When the issue started last year, we thought this is something random occurrence and will go away by itself but with the time, this has gone worse. Now looking in the internet we came to know this is actually an ongoing issue.

While driving the vehicle at highway speed, the check engine light came on at just under 28,000 miles. I took the vehicle to AutoZone, who did not come up with a code; however, I took it to the dealer with engine code P0126, which stands for insufficient coolant temperature. Apparently, there is a flaw in the coolant control valve, but the part is on backorder until June or July. In the meantime, my gas mileage is awful, my car takes forever to warm up, and the engine performance is awful and the vehicle is not safe to drive at highway speeds. This really merits a recall and a whole lot more attention from a company that was Consumer Reports most reliable brand for 2022. I am really disappointed with Mazda and how they have handled this situation and they have permanently lost my business over this.

The contact stated while driving at approximately 75 MPH with the sunroof opened in the vent position, and the rear windows and driver's side and passenger windows opened, the contact stated he heard an abnormal sound like a gunshot and the sunroof glass shattered, and pieces of glass entered the cabin. The contact pulled over and observed that a hole measuring approximately 12 inches by 6 inches had opened in the sunroof. The contact noticed that the glass surrounding the hole had an uplifted edge of approximately 2 inches around the hole. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The Infotainment System has consistent "ghost touching". Not only is this a distraction while trying to drive it is changing the safety settings and display settings available in within the system such as ADAS settings and MPH\KMH speedometer options. Other less-severe options are consistently changed as well such as navigation volume etc. The problem is easy to reproduce, just need to start the car. I just paid $300 for a full replacement of the screen from Mazda, along with an update and the problem not only persists but is worse. The problem got progressively worse but there were no light indicators etc.

I drove my wife to work and noticed that the car was stuttering and had weak acceleration. I parked in my garage and a couple of hours later returned to see a massive oil leak on my driveway, I had to tow the car to the nearest dealership where a cracked cylinder was diagnosed. There was also a terrible burning smell. If the massive leak happened on an acceleration ramp or on the highway there could have been an accident.

My vehicle appears to have what is known as the "ghost touch". The radio ends up clicking random things, skips songs, goes to the maps and zooms all the way in. This puts the driver at risk if they are distracted by what is happening to their radio. I informed the dealer, but they thought it just needed a software update. The issue continued even after the update that I had to pay for. Warning lamps to not appear, and it happens at random times, it's never consistent. It's been happening for a while now, probably over a year, and months after I had purchased it as a used car.

My 2019 Mazda CX-5 automatically applied the brakes while the car was on cruise control traveling at 65 mph on a highway, and there wasn't a car or any object in front of me or to either side of my car. The car applied the brakes firmly and brought the speed down quickly and dangerously. I quickly depressed the accelerator to get the car back to highway speed to avoid a rear-end collision. This issue has happened 3 times in the past 2 weeks, all while traveling at highway speeds on cruise control for an extended period of time (hours). I believe this is the same issue with the Mazda Smart City Brake Support system that led to a recall of 2019-2020 Mazda-3 vehicles. My Mazda CX-5 is out of warranty and the dealer stated it is not covered by the recall.

This is also occurring during deceleration as if the car brakes I'm stages due to the downshifting hard. The dealership has refused to look into the issue. They have refused to add the notes to my vehicle records in effort to avoid accountability.

The car had enough fuel, battery and was service a month prior. The car would not start and had to wait a few hours to try again. The issue is similar to the recall this model has but when I checked my VIN is all cleared . Please Help.

P225/55R19 99V: On November 2, 2021, I was slowing down at a stop light. I was about 5 minutes away when my tire separated. I heard my car make a big sound and drop to the ground on the front passenger side. I lost control and hit the side of the curb, but I was able to pull my car over to a side road safely. It took over 3 hours for the tow truck driver to come, but when he did, he said he hasn’t seen one like this in a while, but it is a defective tire. The middle of the tire was a clean separation from the sides. If it was a tire blow-out the sides of the tire would be uneven, but this was as if the glue that held it together was loose, and the middle just fell out. The tow person tried to take the spare tire and he found that it was incorrect. My car a had 25,000 miles and I bought it new from the dealership and they made the mistake of giving me the wrong tire. Mazda corporation later had to replace it. Mazda dealership told me to contact customer service to discuss the tire. I emailed customer service several times and it took nearly 2 months for them to answer. I called several times, and I would wait on hold and they would hang up. When I finally got someone on the phone, she told me that Mazda warranty does not cover the tires. That is completely in the hands of the tire manufacturer. I contacted Toyo Tires and waiting a month for a response, I was contacted by a customer service. He mentioned that photos and videos were not enough, but that I had to send the tire ba

Tuesday, 5/3, I was parking my car in the New Leaf Grocery parking lot in Aptos, CA. I pulled into the lot and made slow right into an available space. I had my foot on the accelerator, tapped down on it gently to ease into the space. My car lurched forward at such high speed that I was unable to remove my foot from the accelerator. I swerved to the right as the car went over a partition and hit another parked car on the other side of the partition. My airbag did not activate. I've replayed the experience in my mind and tried convincing myself that this could have been a matter of human error on my part. I am beyond convinced that what I experienced yesterday was a case of sudden unintended acceleration. I am concerned and afraid to drive my car now. Had circumstances been different, someone could have been killed. Had I not swerved right, I was headed to crash into a building. I called 911 and since no one was hurt there was no Police report. To address questions set-out above: Speed control (sudden unintended acceleration) and air bag failed My safety and the safety of others was put at risk As of yet the problem has not been reproduced however there are a great number of reports related to unintended acceleration (however not acknowledged as a problem by Mazda) I plan to have my Mazda inspected by a local dealership service center There were no warning messages or symptoms in advance of the incident occurring I've owned my Mazda for 3 years and never experienced anything l

When driving at above 60-70mph in windy conditions, the car makes a squeaking noise that appears to come from the front left side of the car-- near the driver side window/mirror region. That is quite scary as it coincides with the sideward movement caused by the wind and gives a sense of losing control of the car. Mazda Europe has reported something similar but Mazda USA has not done anything about it.

I was driving on the highway, at about 65 mph. The engine lost power and the car began to slow down. It did not respond to the accelerator, but the power was still on. I was lucky enough to be able to pull over to the shoulder without colliding, but it was extremely fortunate that no cars were obstructing me at the time. I put the car into park once stopped and turned the engine off. I tried to restart but the engine did not turn over and several warning signs came up on the dash and the car emitted irregular dinging/beeping noises before going silent (I do not recall specifically, but I believe the check engine and/or battery indicator lights came on) The hazards worked, also the interior lights. But I was stranded in a remote area in complete darkness on a very narrow shoulder with large trucks whizzing by. A CHP officer appeared eventually and expedited a tow truck, which brought me to the nearest Mazda dealership 100 miles away. It was midnight by the time we arrived. Both the tow truck driver and the technician (the next morning) were both unable to jumpstart the car. Engine would not turn over at all. The technician opened up the engine and sent reports to Mazda. We are waiting to hear back but they would not give me a loaner vehicle without knowing the cause of the failure. Very relieved I was not hurt but also very upset at the chance I could have been.

At about noon on 12/19/21 I was approaching the Tappan Zee (Mario Cuomo) Bridge in New York State going west. My car briefly stopped accelerating when I put my foot on the gas pedal but then continued on as normal. No warning lights or other signs of trouble appeared, and I continued onto the bridge and was in the center lane. There was moderate traffic on the bridge. Suddenly, my car started shaking and slowing as if the brakes were being pumped (although I did not put my foot on the brake), and the messages "Front Radar Sensor System Malfunction" "Forward Smart City Brake Malfunction" and "Smart Brake System Malfunction" all flashed on the dashboard screen. My husband turned on the emergency flashers and took a photo of the screen. The car continued slowing down and shaking no matter how hard I pressed the gas pedal. This created an incredibly dangerous situation; I had to get over to the right lane as we continued losing speed, and find somewhere safe to pull over once we got off the bridge. A car or truck going at a normal speed could have easily hit us and caused a catastrophic crash on the bridge. If I could not get out of the center lane quickly, at the rate the car was slowing down, it would have come to a complete stop in the middle of the roadway. I was able to merge right, get across the bridge and get to an exit, all as the car continued lurching and slowing down. At the bottom of the exit, there was a red light; I stopped and turned the car off and back on again.

There was a warning "chime" and then this message appeared on the instrument panel. "Front Radar Malfunction". The car was in the left lane on the PA turnpike going approximately 73 miles per hour. The car immediately began a rapid deceleration after the warning "chime". Automatic braking activated. The driver could not accelerate. Traffic was heavy with a trailer truck to the right and cars behind. There were no vehicles in front of the decelerating car. The vehicles behind were able to slow and avoided collision. We were forced to pull over in a very narrow center medium next to a large concrete divider. It was a very dangerous place to stop. The engine was turned off for approximately a minute. When it was started there were no messages and the driver had full control of the car. The car is available for inspection. The dealer will be contacted tomorrow. The car has been in service for 23 months and has been driven 12,200 miles. The road surface was wet from recent rain and the car had been driven through a downpour with water pooling on the road approximately 15 minutes before this incident.

1) It happened last week on 8/30, when I drove back home after work at night. After I parked my vehicle at the driveway and I had noticed there's smoke going into the cabin through the vent. The smell was very bad, it smells like burning rubber/plastic type. Then I went underneath the car and checked, the oil dripping out from the plastic panels where the oil pan is. Next morning, I jacked the car up and have a deeper inspection. I have notice the oil actually leaking from the Timing belt/chain cover area. I immediately called local dealership @ Putnam Mazda and drove it in for service on 8/31. When I arrived to the service department, my whole front end was full of smoke coming out from the hood. After a hour of inspection, service advisor told me that my car is having a blown cylinder #3 and oil leaks from cracked cylinder head. They will have to order a new cylinder head from Japan for my replacement, which will take more than 2 weeks or even longer due to part shortage. This is ridiculous!!! My car only have 21,500 miles on it, and it's a 2019 model year. The advisor told me they had quite a few were having the same issue. I guess he doesn't want to give me the exact numbers. But this is a safety concerns for other Mazda customers as well. I guess it has to do with the cylinder deactivation they put into the engine which cause this problem. The recalls that they had last year was not a fix or cure. 2) This is a safety concern and putting my life on risk, the oil leaks mig

The center infotainment system operates by itself when driving at a low speed. The screen will automatically enter menus, place calls, and select items without any sort of input from the driver or passenger (ghost touch). The control knob, which is used to navigate the center screen, will not be functional whenever this happens. This ghost touch issue happens periodically, sometimes it goes away and sometimes the problem returns. Whenever the screen places calls or enters menus by itself, the driver is being distracted from the road and will have to focus on canceling whatever action the infotainment automatically decided to do. For example, I use Apple CarPlay for navigation but sometimes the screen will operate other functions by itself - I will have to manually click back to the navigation screen every time. A similar issue was found in the 2014-2016 MY of the Mazda3, which uses the exact same infotainment and controller setup as in the CX-5 products. I have provided a link to the relevant service bulletin here: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10164268-0001.pdf The system has not been examined by the manufacturer nor have there been any types of warning messages or lamps within the vehicle.

Oftentimes when driving at speeds of approximately 80mph or more, a loud whining/whistling noise appears. It appears to be coming from the area of driver side front door, passenger side front door, both front doors simultaneously. The issue has an earlier onset in the presence of crosswind, or headwind. I was able to record several videos where the noise can be heard very clearly. Some of these videos have been posted online: https://vimeo.com/547826873 https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/580602909 and the links have been shared both with my local Mazda dealership (Oak Tree Mazda by DGDG in San Jose, CA: 4250 Stevens Creek Blvd, San Jose, CA 95129) as well as with Mazda of North America. When the system think there might be a collision and initiates a hard braking even when there might be enough space in front of you. Multiple times, the car behind me had to do a hard break as well not to hit me from behind. This also happens when switching lanes. As you are in the middle of switching, if sometimes thinks you are getting to close to the car in the original lane and it starts a hard break. Since I’m in between lanes, it causes the car on the other lane to do a hard break also, almost causing a chain accident. A google search revealed multiple people complaining of that. The system is too aggressive even at it’s lowest setting. Mazda informed me I can only turn it off one drive cycle at a time. This system has almost caused more accidents than it protected me from them.

Car restarted and currently driving it home as I write this complaint. 600 miles overdue for maintenance (by date due on July 26, 2021) and was scheduled upon return from trip which at the time should be approx 1000 miles over due.

BROUGHT IT IN NOV 2020 REGARDING SMELLS AND ENGINE ISSUES AS WELL AS ALIGNMENT. NEITHER WERE TAKEN CARE OF. THEN MARCH 2021,ENGINE WAS LEAKING FLUID AND SMOKING, AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT 20K. DID NOT PROVIDE A RENTAL UNTIL LATER THAT WEEK. AFTER A MONTH, I GOT MY CAR BACK. AFTER LEAVING THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO SMOKE, BROUGHT IT BACK. GAVE NO RENTAL. DEALER SAID IT WAS LEFT OVER FLUID FROM WHEN THEY REPLACED IT. CAR IS STILL HAVING ISSUES WITH THE ENGINE AND SMELLS. UNDER SHIELD FELL OFF AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TWICE.TIRE PRESSURE WAS GOING OFF AND BROUGHT IT IN TWICE FOR THEM TO SAY THEY CANT FIND WHERE THE SLOW LEAK IS OR WHY SO THEY WOULDN'T FIX IT EVEN THOUGH I HAVE THE MAZDA INSURANCE FOR TIRES.

I HEARD A VERY LOUD BANG, SOUNDING LIKE A GUNSHOT THAT WENT OFF, WHEN THE SUNROOF ABOVE MY HEAD VIOLENTLY SHATTERED WHILE I DRIVING TO WORK. I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR AND GOT COVERED WITH PIECES OF GLASS. THE GLASS SCRATCHED ME ON THE FACE, CLOSE TO MY EYE. I AM IN SHOCK AND I AM STILL FINDING SMALL PIECES OF GLASS ALL OVER MY BODY EVEN AFTER TAKING A SHOWER.

WINDSCREEN STRESS CRACK 12 - 15 INCH UPPER END. NO VISIBLE EXTERNAL DAMAGE CAUSE, NO EVIDENCE OF DEBRIS DAMAGE. APPEARS AS MATERIAL DEFECT, MANY SIMILAR REPEATING COMPLAINTS ON THE NET. MAZDA REFUSES TO REPLACE UNDER WARRANTY, REFUSES TO INSPECT.

Reading these

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
