2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar

Defect. Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC. (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Discovery, and Range Rover Velar vehicles. The Auto High Beam (AHB) system does not indicate through the instrument cluster when the high beams are illuminated automatically. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Risk. The driver may be unaware that the high beams are illuminated, reducing visibility for oncoming traffic, and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle software, free of charge. The recall began April 7, 2021. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N556.

Defect. Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2018 Range Rover Velar vehicles. The air inlet door linkages for the ventilation system may detach, preventing the system from clearing fog or condensation from the windshield and windows.

Risk. If condensation or fog cannot be cleared, the driver's visibility may be affected, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle software to control the length of movement of the ventilation actuator arm, free of charge. The recall began on April 16, 2018. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N143.

Defect. Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Velar, and Land Rover Discover Sport vehicles equipped with a 2.0L gasoline engine. The fuel rail end caps may leak, possibly resulting in fuel vapor or liquid fuel leaking into the engine bay.

Risk. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source such as hot engine or exhaust components can increase the risk of a fire.

Remedy. Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel rail, free of charge. The recall began on March 8, 2018. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N138.

UNKNOWN the vehicle has had a check engine light since purchase, the doors do not lock, the SOS systems failure, ENGINE FAULT SYSTEM and BRAKE SYSTEMS illuminate regularly. The vehicle has stranded my kids and I after purchasing, where the dealer has cleared the codes and promised it’s fine repeatedly.

I am submitting this complaint regarding a serious safety and operability issue involving my 2018 Land Rover Range Rover, which has rendered the vehicle inoperable and unsafe to drive. Within approximately four months of purchase, the vehicle experienced repeated mechanical failures, including persistent check engine warnings, limp mode activation, failed compression testing, fuel injector failures across all cylinders, exhaust and turbo-related faults, and a full diesel particulate filter (DPF). The vehicle currently will not perform as designed and is unsafe to operate. The vehicle was repeatedly brought to Jaguar Land Rover South Orlando for service. Despite assurances that diagnostics showed “no issues,” the vehicle rapidly deteriorated and ultimately became inoperable. While in the dealership’s custody, additional concerns arose, including unauthorized third-party access to my vehicle without my consent and delays in releasing the vehicle for towing. Additionally, when the vehicle was finally released, the battery was fully depleted despite the vehicle being in the dealership’s possession and not operated by me, raising further concerns about improper handling. The dealership has quoted repair costs exceeding $13,500 and has refused to assist, citing “as-is” sale status, despite the vehicle failing shortly after purchase and exhibiting severe engine-related defects. Extreme loss of coolant at 40K miles, no engine fault codes, no visible leak, engine overheated rapidly and did not notify me until it was in the red.

When I’m driving my high beams automatically come on and blind the drivets ahead of me. They come on by themselves and it’s not even dark enough for them to be on. It happens when I’m on the freeway going to work. This has happened more than once. It’s happened four times already and it worries me cause I don’t want someone to think I’m flicking my high beams at them!!!

Oil Filter Housing cracked, leaking oil, smoking in cabin, risk of fire.

REAR CAMERA MALFUNCTION!! The rear backup camera has malfunctioned due to water entering the device. This is the same issue seemingly as the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport rear cameras, but the Velar has yet to be included in the recall. The Velar has the same 360 degree surround system. The contact owns a 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar. The contact stated that upon entering the vehicle, there was an abnormally strong fuel odor inside the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the fuel cap near the manifold had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000.

1. The components that failed were part of the coolant system, specifically the coolant pipes. JLR used plastic coolant pipes which over time deteriorate and lead to massive coolant leaks, and in my car it got so bad that even with the engine off the coolant would just pour out in a couple seconds. 2. This leads to severe overheating issues. While I was regularly driving home, the vehicle started smoking which prompted me to pull over. If I had kept going, there is a chance a catastrophic failure could have happened and put my life and others at risk since I was traveling on a high speed road. 3. This problem has been reproduced and reported by many owners, since the plastic coolant pipes have been used in many vehicles. The dealership also said they were aware of this issue and explained how the part deteriorates over time. 4. My car has not been inspected by the manufacturer, but has been by the dealership. 5. I did notice that the coolant was dropping a few weeks prior (it was significantly under MIN but no warning lights). I took it to the dealership and they conducted a pressure test but found no leaks. Then a few weeks later, as I was driving regularly, the vehicle started smoking and the low coolant light appeared. This was the first time the light appeared, and the coolant level was extremely low. The contact owns a 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle failed to restart. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the turbo, resulting in damage to the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that in the months prior to the failure, there was a foul odor entering the cabin of the vehicle through the vents. The dealer was notified of the issue but offered no assistance. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 86,000.

2018 Range Rover Velar started leaking coolant in Nov 2024. Car was diagnosed by the Land Rover dealership as a coolant inlet pipe leak. Claim has been submitted to Land Rover as this is a known ongoing issue with this model as well as others. Awaiting decision. Dealership quoted nearly $3000 to correct issue.

DRIVER-SIDE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ARE OUT. THEY'RE LED, YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT/DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT MODULE BECAUSE IT'S SEALED AND THERE ARE NO BULBS TO REPLACE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ONLINE AND IT APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. A NEW ASSEMBLY IS REPORTED TO BE $9,000, WHICH IS RIDICULOUS. THIS SHOULD HAVE A FACTORY RECALL. THIS CAR ONLY HAS ABOT 40,000 MILES ON IT.

Car smoking with burning fumes. Serviced at Land Rover dealership 5 months prior. Crank shaft pulley with the tensioner And belt failure/fault

The contact owns a 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar. The contact stated that while pulling into a parking lot; after driving approximately 35 MPH, an on-looker informed the contact that the daytime running lights were not operating as designed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the daytime running lights needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact attempted to have the daytime running lights replaced by a body shop with a used part but decided that new daytime running lights would be best. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,500.

I have owned this vehical for 2 years now and have repaired well over $7,000 worth of issues. Coolant issues are the number one issue, however we also repaired an oil leak and had electrical issues with the braking system. There are no current recalls for my car, but my coolant levels are low again and it is leaking again.

In February car began to increase in temp while driving , I pulled over and saw coolant leaking. I had car Towed to repair center and entire cooling system changed out. 1 month later same exact thing took place. Entire cooling system repaired for the second time. I called Land Rover inquiring about any complaints or recalls Associated w cooling system . None found at that time. In August while driving at 40 mph and after 10 min of driving in the evening. Dash read Low coolant level, no temp change decision to pull over at upcoming gas station was made in my head. I CHECKED THE Temp GUAGE WHICH read normal , at that time I noticed smoke everywhere, I immediately pulled To the side of the road , temp was Still reading normal. Parked and opened hood where engine was full of black smoke engulfed in smoke as if on fire , tow truck was called and the vehicle was towed home , because shops were closed it was 8 pm . Family freind changed out front plastic pipe that had a huge crack and radiator to see if car will run after event , but engine shakes and smokes when started . Absolutely NO overheating indicators were initiated. Absolutely no overheating warning WAS provided before or during event. Engine completely impaired Now. Undriveable. , frequent vin number checks for recall were conducted when this week saw recall for same vehicle same problem! I am the owner of a 2018 Velar Land Rover. Without notice my main door switch has went out on the truck. I cannot adjust my mirrors which is a safety issue. I cannot adjust my mirrors for viewing while I am driving. I also cannot let down any windows and the rear doors are locked on child lock. This is a safety risk for me and my children who ride in the back seat of the vehicle. I have been having problems with this vehicle since I purchased it. I was able to take the vehicle to the same shop that had to replace the starter in the Velar, and they stated to me that it was the main power switch on the driver's door that has gone out, this was last month in August. On 9/25/24 I contacted the dealership to let them know the problem and to make a ticket. I was told that I would have to pay $300.00 for a diagnostic fee and after I pay for the fee that they would see if they could assist with some payment for the repairs. I talked with the supervisor to let her know that I should not have to pay for a diagnostic due to this truck always having repairs/ issues and this is a safety issue, and the main switch should have not gone out already without any notice.

I've been having various start/stop issues with my car in the middle of traffic with are real safety issues. My first visit at Land Rover dealership was back on July 12, 2024 for a powertrain recall. Full inspection during that time revealed that everything else worked fine with my car expect that a new set of tires were needed. Since then, I had intermittent window and blinder issues not working and various not functional start/stop feature. I had to replace the window driver switch and recently, I started having start up issues and have changed the battery. Going back to the dealer for inspection, I was informed that the reason why my car will randomly stopped in the middle of traffic is I need an update of my software transmission control module. I feel is a fundamental safety issue that was undetected from previous visit. Other issues that were raised by the dealer include an oil leak and the need to replace both the supercharger adn main drive belt because of oil saturation. I would add that this type of car had a known water pump manufacturing issues that I am not sure has been recalled. I also had to bear the costs of replacing the water pump for my car.I would like Jaguar/Land ROVER to cover these costs of repairs and work with me to address the outstanding issues specially the software related issues.

The driver opened the hood and noticed that fluid was leaking from the engine. The low-coolant level warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic, who determined that the engine had overheated, the expansion test hose was cracked, and coolant fluid was leaking. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine warning light illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under a warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 69,447.

Timing chain failure at low miles. Land Rover knows that thousands of these cars have issues with the timing chain failing yet refuses to do anything to correct the problem.
