2016 Land Rover Range Rover Sport complaints

The Gesture Liftgate feature that is equipped will both open and close eratically while vehicle is in park and there is movement around the side and rear of the vehicle and there is no way to disable. This has resulted in: the liftgate opening when my daughter has walked behind the vehicle, almost striking her head; the liftgate closing numerous times on me, my wife, my daughter doing things like removing groceries from the vehicle or sitting in the back putting shoes on - several head strikes have resulted from the unintended closing; and the liftgate opening when parked in the garage while the garage is closed resulting in the liftgate being pinned into the garage causing damage to the garage and the liftgate.

Our engine locked up when a hose split under the water pump. I have talked to numerous people that their vehicles were damaged/affected the same way. The dealer says that we need to replace the entire engine (Cost $24,000). I was also speaking to a dealer that said they know of potentially hundreds that were affected this way. This hose issue/concern should have been recalled and replaced before this major/costly damage to the engine. I feel that Land Rover should cover this damage/expense because they are aware that this is an issue/concern. I was told that when this hose splits that the engine overheats/locks up in just seconds.

Front right headlight assembly failed to function. After inspection, it was discovered that the ground point in the right front wheel well had corroded and broke off the frame. This caused all lighting in the front right headlight assembly to not function. This defect is reported multiple times on online discussion boards and should be a recall due to safety equipment, headlights.

The contact owns a 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the active grill sensor and fuel rail sensor needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the low-pressure sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

The vehicle has a Incorrect Diesel Exhaust Fluid Quality Detected Warning only have 249 miles before no engine starts. Vehicle currently has 83,000 miles on odometer. Dealer stated that I needed a Catalytic converter and NOX Sensor cost $2800 The land keep assist, lane departure warning and front facing camera are all inoperative.

The airbag warning lamp came on. We took it to LR and they said the replacement would cost $1038. The airbag needed to be replaced at our cost. However, I did see that there us a recall for airbags on my year and model car which my VIN is not included on. However, I believe this may be an error on LR that they did not include my vehicle. I should also note my vehicle is diesel and that might be a reason it was left out? Was driving in traffic 7 min into the journey with no warning light the car shut down, would not start. No light or indicator before engine overheaded and never gave a warning of anything. This cause the engine to need to be replaced. The Land Rover dealership here in Jacksonville said they see this 3 Times a week.

Upon making a turn the driver side door unexpectedly opened. At this point it seems the latch is malfunctioning as the door will not stay closed.

While driving on the interstate in good weather on flat even ground the suspension fault warning came on. Maximum speed recommended 30 mph. Pull over, stop the car, turn off the engine and investigate. Car is still at operating height, no blown air suspension components. Get back in, start the car…. No warning, suspension button on console adjusts the suspension to access height, clearance, etc… Driving home it happens again. No DTC readable from my scanner, no idea if it is a sensor or bad connection.

The lock mechanism on the passenger side door stopped working, the door will not open from the inside or outside. I have searched online and this seems to be a very common occurrence with this auto maker. The car was not hit, has not been damaged. I parked and my daughter was not able to get out of the vehicle, the door will unlatch and open about half an inch but then the soft close mechanism engages and will not allow the door to be opened any further and instead automatically closes the door. This is cause for concern because if I am driving and get hit on the driver side will be trapped in the car. Since this seems to be a very common issue with Land Rover it should be a safety recall.

The gear shift button randomly stuck and was not able to pop back out. Reached out to numerous car repair shops that specialize in Range Rover sports and they informed that should be a recall issue since they do get a lot of calls regarding this issue. They said it’s a software issue and that the dealer should fix this issue.

The contact owns a 2016 Land Rover Sport. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed and the contact was informed that the driver’s and passenger’s side air bag modules needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V941000 (Air Bags) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and the contact was awaiting a response. The failure mileage was approximately 53,627.

REAR DIFFERENTIAL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WITH LESS THEN 40,000 MILES. NO EXTREME DRIVING, MAINLY CITY DRIVING. NO LIGHTS OR WARNINGS, JUST A RUBBING NOISE. TOOK IT TO A DEALER AND OUTSIDE MECHANIC, BOTH CONFIRMED IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.

DEFECTIVE GEAR SELECTOR. DRIVER PARKED THE CAR AND SWITCHED IT OFF. DRIVER EXITED THE VEHICLE WITH THE KEYS. THE CAR ROLLED BACKWARDS WITHOUT ANYONE IN THE CAR. THE CAR RAN OVER A STATIONARY MOTORCYCLE AND OVER AND INTO A LOW WALL CAUSING ABOUT $20,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE. ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL, THE CAR IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE AN AUTOMATIC BRAKE WHEN SWITCHED OFF AND EXITED. FROM THE MANUAL: "THE EPB APPLIES AUTOMATICALLY IF THE IGNITION IS SWITCHED OFF AND THE VEHICLE'S SPEED IS BELOW 2 MPH (3 KM/H)." THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON JUNE 14, 2018. MY INSURANCE - FARMER' INSURANCE - FILED A CLAIM/COMPLAINT WITH RANGE ROVER, BUT IT WAS DENIED BY RANGE ROVER. PLEASE HELP WITH THIS - IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. WE ARE LUCKY THAT THE CAR DID NOT DRIVE OVER A PERSON WALKING BEHIND THE CAR. I HAVE READ MANY OTHER REPORTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE WITH RANGE ROVER.

ENGINE OIL IS LEAKING FROM TURBO DIRECTLY ONTO EXHAUST. THIS HAS BEEN NOTICED SINCE THE VEHICLE HAD 15000 MILES. WHEN TRAVELING AND COME TO COMPLETE STOP, STRONG OIL BURNING SMELL IS IS NOTICED INSIDE THE CAR AND OUTSIDE THE CAR, NO FLAMES HAVE BEEN SEEN YET. THE VEHICLE HAS ABOUT 24000 MILES AND IT IS GETTING A LOT WORSE. HIGH POTENTIAL OF FIRE.

WHEN I TURNED MY CAR ON IN THE MORNING THE STEREO WAS NOT WORKING AND YOU COULD HEAR CRACKLING. I THEN WAS DROPPING MY SON OFF AT SCHOOL AND WE WERE GOING SLOW BECAUSE WE WERE IN THE SCHOOL ZONE.MAYBE 5-10 MPH I SMELLED SMOKE AND THEN LOOKED BACK AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM INSIDE THE CAR WHERE THE READING LIGHT IS IN THE BACK. I HAD TO PARK MY TRUCK AT MY DADS CAR BECAUSE I DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT. I GOOGLED AND FOUND THAT A LOT OF RANGE ROVER HAVE A FAULTY SUNROOF TO WHERE WATER LEAKS CAUSING ELECTRICAL DAMAGE. THIS WAS ALSO WHAT THE RANGE ROVER SPECIALIST TOLD ME HE HAS SEEN HAPPEN. MY TRUCK MODEL HOWEVER HAS YET TO BE RECALLED. BUT THERE ARE OTHER MODELS THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS SUNROOF ISSUE. IT IS CLEARLY SOMETHING LAND ROVER VEHICLES HAVE AN ISSUE WITH. I AM OUT OF WARRANTY JUST A MONTH AGO. WHEN I WENT YESTERDAY TO MY DADS HOUSE TO GET SOMETHING OUT OF MY TRUCK IT WAS COVERED IN MOLD. THIS IS BECAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH WATER THAT SEEPED THROUGH THE SIDES OF THE CAR. YOU CAN TELL BECAUSE THE MOLD WAS COMING FROM THE SEATBELT HOLES AND SUCH.

WITHOUT ANY SIGNS AND WARNINGS, MY CAR'S ENGINE LIGHT WAS SUDDENLY ON AS WE WERE DRIVING HOME. WHEN MY HUSBAND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED A REPLACEMENT. WE HAVE TO PAY MORE THAN $20,000 BECAUSE OUR CAR (2016 LAND ROVER SPORT) WAS 7000 MILES BEYOND THE WARRANTY MILEAGE (50,000).

I RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE N336 IN JULY. MY PASSENGER REAR DOOR HAS SWUNG OPEN IN TRAFFIC 4 DIFFERENT TIMES AS I AM MAKING RIGHT HAND TURNS IN BUSY INTERSECTIONS!!!! I HAVE CONTACTED LANDROVER AND LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO TRY TO GET IT FIXED BUT THEY SAY THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM YET. IT HAS BEEN 6 WEEKS SINCE THE RECALL NOTICE WAS ISSUED. THAT SHOULD BE PLENTY OF TIME!! THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY RISK AND IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN!!!!

THE CAR FAILED TO OPERATE WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT ANY INDICATION OR WARNING LIGHT. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND YET ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CAR WAS TOWED THE ENGINE SEIZED. THE CAR IS UNDER A LEASE WITH APPROXIMATELY 24,000 MILES ON IT AND IT FAILED TO OPERATE WITHOUT WARNING. LAND ROVER OF SUDBURY AND LAND ROVER NORTH AMERICA REFUSE TO WARRANTY THE VEHICLE AND CLAIM THE REPAIR WILL COST OVER $35,000.

I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN 6 TIMES FOR THE REAR ELECTRIC LIFT GATE OPENING RANDOMLY ON HIGHWAY AND ROADS. I HAVE HAD ITEMS FALL OUT THAT COULD HAVE CREATED AN ACCIDENT. IT IS KNOW THAT LAND ROVER HAS ISSUES WITH DOORS OPENING AND I NOW AM INCLUDING THE LIFT GATE. THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED

ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN REVERSE AS INDICATED BY GEAR SHIFT AND DASH YET THE VEHICLE HAS MOVED FORWARD AS IF IT WERE IN DRIVE INSTEAD. REPORTED TO DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER WITHOUT RESOLVE.
