2024 Jeep Wrangler complaints

A software update appears on the screen. I hit update and got out of the Jeep. A number of hours later I started up the Jeep and drove away, about a mile down the road while driving the Jeep entirely shutdown. The motor was off and I had not control. The dash told me to put it in park and update. I was luckily in a spot where I could just stop in the middle of the road, I put it in park restarted but now with the check engine light on. I was able to limp home. It was very scary as if it was a more major road I could have caused an accident.

Immediately after updating the UConnect software in my parking lot, I drove away and my Jeep lost power while driving. Engine shut off and said "Shift to P to Start." Had to shift to park and restart just to get moving again. Was barely able to get it to the dealership right afterwards and then it happened again while in motion. Happened again and again in the dealership parking lot.

The vehicle did an over the air update once we pulled into a restaurant. While driving home after the update the vehicle stopped in the middle of the road and had no power. The dash said to move the shifter to park and all the warning lights including the check engine light is on. We turned power off and back on and was able to go 1 mile home before it shut off In The driveway with all the same lights and no power.

Got an OTA Update last night, this morning saw some post on the internet about that update went to check my jeep and it came on but once it kicks the gas engine for like 2 or 3 seconds the vehicle shut off and asked to shift to park, if I don’t see this internet news I’d have been stranded on the road

The engine shut down while driving

While driving the car shut down. We had to come to a stop to put it in park to restart. Thankfully we were in a a parking lot after one incidence and once on a side road. We would be in a very dangerous situation if we had been on the highway. Our dealer service center said it might be a software update issue but they are not sure. These incidents did occur immediately after a software update. The check engine light did come on a stayed on after the shut down.

Vehicle did over the air software update overnight. First drive the vehicle after approximately half a mile engine stalled out electronics went off. Vehicle lost communication with key would not restart. MIL light showing many codes on reader. Several power cycles vehicle run, but cut out further three times once on a freeway underpass. The hazard flashing lights would not work dead on key. Restarted it after five seconds limped to parking lot. Came back after shopping vehicle seems OK. Very dangerous issue complete loss of power.

Received 10/10 uconnect update. Within 1 mile, car lost power and rolled to stop with check engine light on. Did reboot but no imrovement. Hundreds of people have reported same issue after updating. We are hundreds of miles from home. The person running the 4xe Jeep Enthusiasts website got into an accident.

Loss of all motive power on 4XE while driving, put my daughter at risk of a crash. Vehicle loss all power steering and motive power when from driving to rolling.

After a prompt on the infotainment system to update “Uconnect” I accepted. The car was parked for the duration of the update. 30 minutes later, I was driving on a 45mph road and lost power and an error stating to put the car in park and restart the vehicle. The check engine light stayed on after restart. I was able to drive about a mile home and jeep towed the vehicle to the nearest dealer.

Vehicle completely shuts off while driving. Forced to come to a stop and restart. Started happening after over the air update to the u connect system. Happens 6 times on 20 mile drive.

Completed the 'Uconnect' Update last night. This morning it drove for about 30 seconds before it completely shut down and the check engine light came on. Neither the electric, hybrid or gas engine would work. I was able to have it drift/coast to the left to park it. Turned it off and back on and it made it home. It was then towed to the dealership. My safety would be at risk if someone hadn't realized what was happening and had run into me. The vehicle has been taken to the shop, they won't diagnose it until Monday, but I did send them a video of the error. No warning lights prior to the car losing power.

The Jeep stop while driving reduced speed, the dashboard said shift to P AND that it was not safe to drive due to performance. The check engine light is on and will not turn off, the jeep will not drive in electric mode. Also there was an update with Uconnect.

2024 Hybrid. Vehicle shuts down while driving. Driver had to pull over to shut vehicle down and then restart it. Very dangerous situation.

Updated vehicle last night via u-connect, vehicle died today while driving, lost all power. Check engine light on, hundreds of posts via social media with the same problem

I was slowing down for a stoplight vehicle shut off, came to an abrupt stop and shifted itself into Park. I then had to use the shifter knob to adjust it to Park to get the vehicle to turn on. This almost caused and rear end accident as I was not fully to the stop line area of for the light. The vehicle would then not go over 2500 RPMs and had to be limped off of the roadway. There were no warnings before this happened. All of it happened in a split second and my partner and I were jolted forward. I immediately reported this to the jeep dealership and they were very concerned about this. After this incident, my service engine light came on and stayed on later in the day it disappeared on its own without any clearing of any devices. I have attached pictures of what showed up as warning lights as soon as this incident happened.

While driving, a warning suddenly appeared stating “Electronic Stability Control Failure.” Immediately afterward, the vehicle stopped accelerating and automatically shifted from RUN to ACC mode with no throttle response or acceleration control. Traffic was moderate, and when the vehicle abruptly lost propulsion, several cars behind me had to brake hard and nearly collided with my vehicle. I was able to coast and pull off the roadway safely, but it was a dangerous situation that could easily have caused an accident. This failure occurred without warning, and the vehicle has a history of prior powertrain and driver-assistance system issues, including repeated “Four Wheel Drive Service” and “Electric Power Steering Fail” warnings earlier in 2025. The most recent event on October 11, 2025, was the most severe and created a serious safety hazard. I accepted a uconnect software update last night and this morning lost complete power while diving my jeep multiple times. I had to pull over on busy streets, put the vehicle in park, turn on/off the vehicle a couple times and got it to start again. The check engine light has been on since. I went to the dealership and they said they’ve received multiple complaints today as well. I have it home and not drivable.

After performing the over the air Uconnect update my vehicle stopped moving in the middle of traffic. An error message said service charging system, and put into P and start vehicle. Me and my family were in danger. I was able to finally reset vehicle and pull into a safe parking area.

Jeeps received an over the air update on 10/11/2025 and after the update experienced loss of power while driving with no warning . This could have caused an accident . I was driving down a road and there was no warning indication when my jeep suddenly just started to stall. I just had it inspected and drove without issue the day before . When I called the dealer to have it towed she said someone else had the same issue and had just called . When I searched online others with the same vehicle were also experiencing the same thing . This is a very dangerous experience that coukd have caused casualties and Jeep should be held accountable for it. Their software update was not ready for release and this type of failure is entirely preventable .

The latest Uconnect 5 update was performed by the Jeep dealership on my 2024 Wrangler 4xe on October 11th, 2024. After leaving the dealership, the vehicle shut off while driving and displayed a message instructing me to “shift to Park.” I lost propulsion and power steering, creating an immediate safety hazard. The dealership had just completed the update and told me it was safe to drive. Based on reports circulating among other 2024 Wrangler 4xe owners, this appears to be a widespread issue linked to the most recent Uconnect 5 update (released around October 10, 2025). Please investigate this issue as a potential safety defect related to the software update.

After software update jeep will not drive

My car was stalling out every 30 second while I was driving. The dash would immediately tell me to put my car in park. Once I put my car in park, my car would lock up and not let me shift back into drive unless I turned the car off and back on again. This is extremely dangerous as my car just shuts down mid driving. The car is currently at the dealership being inspected and they have not fully confirmed what’s going on. The check engine light came on also the low tire pressure came on as well even though I did not have low tire pressure because it was showing my gauge in my gauge was normal.

While driving my 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe (VIN: [XXX] ), the vehicle suddenly lost all motive power without warning. The accelerator pedal became completely unresponsive, the “D” indicator on the gear selector began blinking, and the vehicle coasted to a stop in traffic. It would not restart for several minutes. This has occurred multiple times since purchase. The most concerning incident happened earlier this year while driving on a freeway with my wife and two young children, the vehicle abruptly shut down in active lanes of traffic, forcing us to coast to the shoulder while cars passed at highway speed. On [XXX] the same failure occurred four times within a ten-minute drive home. Each time, the Wrangler became undriveable and required several minutes before it would restart. The vehicle is currently at Simi Valley Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram for inspection (Service Order #[XXX]). The service advisor stated that multiple Wrangler 4xe vehicles were brought in for the same issue that morning. They also stated that the Wrangler 4xe has faced this issue for years and were not surprised by my story. The defect appears related to the hybrid powertrain control system or high-voltage electrical components. The problem has been reproduced and reported to Stellantis Customer Care as a serious safety concern. No warning lamps or messages appeared before the loss of power, only the blinking “D” indicator afterward. The vehicle and affected components are available for inspection upon request

Today while driving on my street in Electric mode at ~25-30 mph, suddenly an alarm dinged and the “D” on the transmission started flashing and the “check engine” light came on. I lost power to the drivetrain (pressing the accelerator pedal did nothing) and an alert on the screen said to press the brake pedal and start button to start the car. I pulled over, turned it off, then turned it back on again. It started driving but then the same thing happened after ~1 minute. Luckily I was in my neighborhood and not on a highway, so I was able to pull over. It was a bit scary because as the Jeep was almost to a stop (but still moving) suddenly the power steering gave out. Luckily I was near the curb. I repeated the same process, drove for one minute, repeat, one minute, repeat. The check engine light was on the whole time. This behavior has been documented by other Jeep owners on the internet and appears to be a software issue. Having the vehicle randomly shut down while driving is INCREDIBLY dangerous.

As I was driving the car on the highway, the engine light came on, then the "D" for drive gear started flashing and I could no longer accelerate or give the car gas. The only option was to "coast" across several lanes to the break down lane, put the car completely in park, shut off the ignition, and then restart the vehicle to drive again. This happened to me at least 7-8 times today (5 times while on the highway and a few while on other roads leading to and from the highway). I was unfortunately already on a drive to drop my children off somewhere so I had no choice but to complete the ride to the destination, then drive back home to park the vehicle. Needless to say, it's a very scary situation when you can no longer accelerate with cars coming up quickly behind you and you are unable to do anything but try to coast to a safe place to put the car in park and shut it off. It also happened to me while crossing an intersection and oncoming traffic from the other direction that then had a green light was swerving around me. I tried calling Jeep customer service to ask if it's a widespread issue and after 20 minutes on hold, the customer service rep came on to simply say their system is down and they're currently unable to assist anyone. I was almost in several accidents because of the issue and hope they send out a warning to all of those affected, assuming it was more than just my vehicle, because this seems to be occurring every since there was a mandatory software update yes

Jeep pushed an update and now the vehicle randomly turns off in mid driving. you cannot put the car in neutral and must power cycle it. sometimes the car immediately stalls again this is unbelievably dangerous as it can happen at high speeds.

After an over the air update the vehicle now goes into limp mode and forces me to put the vehicle in park. The vehicle now has a check engine light. Also some of the functions like regenerative braking and power steering shut them selves off

The car performed an automatic update last night. Driving it today, the car automatically shut down multiple times on a busy street. My life was in danger multiple times. There is no solution and this is negligence.

Was driving on the freeway at 65 mph. Engine cut off completely and said to put it in park. No forward propulsion. This happened 2 times in a row.

A software update was installed yesterday, and I almost died on a busy interstate when my vehicle shut down and would not restart. The jeep software update is causing THOUSANDS of vehicles to shut down. I literally had to wait hours for police to show up to clear the road so we could safely tow the vehicle. I come to home look on the Jeep forums and LOTS of people had the same issues.

After Jeep pushed over air update on 10/10/25, car experiences sudden and complete loss of power. Vehicle basically dies while in motion and had to wait until it stops to restart. In less than .5 mile, this happened 5 times.

Jeep sent an OTA update through the Uconnect system on 10/10. This morning while driving my vehicle lost power unexpectedly and was forced to stop and the check engine light is now on. Thankfully I was in a quiet residential area with not a lot of traffic or this could have been a serious accident. Jeep is saying it is was a telematics box module update and no fix is ready at this time.

Software update sent to vehicle 10/10/2025. Allowed update as I was parked for afternoon. In the evening I attempted to drive for dinner. Vehicle suddenly lost propulsion, all warning lights came on, vehicle went to neutral, lost power steering, coasted to sudden stop and message stated shift to park and press start. Which I did. Same thing happened again in just a few feet in the middle of an intersection nearly causing an accident. Jeep is not answering their phones. Dealership is saying to have it towed. I want Stellantis to take this vehicle back. Too many issues.

After a over the air update, the vehicle will unpredictability lose power. The dash will display a warning stating that the vehicle must be shifted into park to be restarted. Jeep has acknowledged this issue in forums with no resolution identified. I have only experienced it while trying to accelerate in front of traffic, on of which almost resulted in an accident due to failure to accelerate.

While driving at any rate of speed the vehicle would take over, shutting down driver control with a message on the dashboard saying to put vehicle in park. After pulling over to shut vehicle off, I would turn it back on, and was allowed to drive until this occurred again. A message would come up to service hybrid system.

Over the air update on 10/10/25, disabled my Wrangler. Engine light is on, vehicle shuts down, turns off while driving, continuous error messages, unable to operate vehicle safely, it will not stay running while driving. Within 20 miles, it shut down six times while driving on the highway. As of this date and time, Jeep, Mopar, Stellantis have not offered any guidance, assistance or potential fixes.

Moments after installing a software update as instructed in my dashboard, my vehicle came to an immediate halt while driving on a busy freeway. The dashboard displayed instructions to shift the vehicle in park and restart the vehicle. I managed to move the vehicle onto the shoulder and completed these steps to regain control of the vehicle. I completed the rest of my commute on local roads, and this incident occurred two more times before I arrived home. This is not an isolated incident. Many users have reported similar incidents and accidents associated with the recent software update. I contacted Jeep to document this concern. However, they took no responsibility and offered no guidance to rectify the issue. This vehicle is only one year old and is now unsafe to drive.

There was an OTA update pushed to my Jeep last night. Since I had just bought the Jeep 6 days ago I thought it was needing to catch up on updates so I let it update. Now when I attempt to drive it the Jeep will randomly SHUT OFF while driving at any speed and prompt me to shift to Park and a check engine light comes on. When I coast to a stop and shift to park and push the button to start it again it comes back on with a CEL. It will continue to do this until I just park it and don’t drive it.

After a software update on 10/10/25, the Jeep Wrangler has become unreliable, with the hybrid powertrain failing while driving, leaving the driver and passengers in dangerous situations in traffic. This occurs at any speed and results in a total loss of the high voltage system, including motive force and power steering. This has happened in an intersection, while making an unprotected left turn, while in parking lots and other typical traffic situations.

Over the air Software update for uconnect caused the vehicle to lose power and power steering at 60mph on the freeway only ten minutes after installing the update. Vehicle now loses power when attempting to drive with hybrid mode on. Vehicle is inoperable and unsafe to drive until Stellantis reverts this OTA update. All 2024 MY or newer Jeep Wrangler 4XE that received the update are impacted.

Following an update pushed by Jeep through UConnect, when accelerating through an intersection the propulsion completely stopped and the vehicle lost all drive. The dash flashed to put the vehicle in park and the check engine light came on. I had to let the vehicle roll slowly out of the intersection. I put the vehicle in park, restarted the vehile and the gas engine came on. I was then able to proceed to drive to a safe spot in limp mode. There was no warning except that all drive stopped. Jeep has been contacted and the have given ZERO assistance with a diagnosis. The vehicle has been towed to a dealership . Jeep has been very difficult to work with and is providing no information.

Downloaded an update - vehicle shuts off - very dangerous

On October 11, 2025, in the morning, shortly after installing a software update recommended by Jeep via the vehicle's infotainment screen panel, I experienced a sudden and complete loss of vehicle power while driving on the road at approximately 45 mph. This defect nearly resulted in a serious collision, posing a significant risk of bodily injury to myself and other motorists on the road. No injuries occurred, but the incident could have been catastrophic at highway speeds. I believe this may be related to a software or electrical defect in the vehicle, potentially linked to the recent update. I request that NHTSA investigate this as a potential safety recall issue, as similar complaints of power loss and steering failures after software updates have been reported in Jeep models. The engine shut off itself while driving on the freeway with highway speed, with warning message shift to P to start, after recent OTA update from jeep on Friday night. Forcing me to stall on the freeway and almost cause crash. Look like this is wild spread issue affecting all 2024 jeep 4xe after update and I dropped my car to dealership twice today but they not able to fix it. After downloading the latest UConnect update, I turned on my Jeep and started my drive. About 500 feet later all the dash lights came on, told me to shift into drive to drive (I was) and I lost all power and steering control. I turned the Jeep off and back on and I could drive. This time I made it 1/4 mile and it shut off again, same situation in the middle of an intersection making a left turn. I was nearly hit by other vehicles and had to rely on the downhill slope to roll into the closest parking lot. The software update is bricking all 4xe jeeps that download the software update. UConnect help said they didn’t have a solution and to call Jeep Customer Support. I called them and a man answered the phone and said “we can’t help, call back on Monday” and hung up. I called my dealership and they didn’t know what was wrong with it either. I now do not have a vehicle until Tuesday at the soonest due to the holiday and the weekend.

After a recent over-the-air (OTA) update, our Jeep Wrangler 4xe does not drive.

Sudden loss of power every 2-5 minutes after the latest over the air software update.

Driving on highway at 70 mph and I lose all power. Message says to shift to park. Jeep will not accelerate when gas pedal is pressed. Had to come to a complete stop, shift to park and luckily it drove for a few more miles to get me off the highway before getting killed. Multiple dash lights came on including check engine.
