UConnect 8.4 has delaminated at the top of the screen, making it unsafe as the screen now clicks itself. Sometimes it changes the radio station or changes the time setting, or calls people randomly. The navigation system is obsolete because the screen clicks itself and reroutes destination. It is very distracting. It makes the radio and Sirius XM not usable.

From what is to be an hands free system is now a dangerous distraction. This includes the ability to use the phone and or stereo. Jeep Chrysler offers no assistance with replacement outside of expensive repairs. This is common in 2018 vehicles.

The display for the radio, navigation and other components is malfunctioning. The radio switches the station without warning and goes back and forth between FM and XM on its own. The navigation screen or a message stating "Do you want to adjust your clock settings?" pops up on the screen and then disappears. It prevents me from being able to adjust any of the settings or control the radio. The most worrying issue is that if the seat warmers are on, you are unable to turn them down or off, causing the seats to become uncomfortably hot. I have not had the vehicle inspected. There was no warning message or other symptoms before these problems became evident. They first appeared 60 days ago and have progressively increased in frequency.

The sound of the explosion was so loud it was like a canon going off. Such an intense noise could easily cause someone to swerve into oncoming traffic or go off the side of the road.

The UConnect touch screen is delaminating, causing "ghost touches". The screen acts as though it's being touched repeatedly, bouncing from command to command (changes radio station, asks if I want to update the clock settings, etc). It's super distracting and the only way to stop it is to turn off the whole thing. In addition to shutting off the radio, turning it off disables access to tools like the backup camera, clock, climate controls, everything. I understand from looking online that this is a very common issue but Jeep isn't taking responsibility for it.

They charged $500 for diagnostic even though I had the code already and replaced the Purge Valve & Hose. On 1/14 my car engine would not start at all. On 1/15 my car engine started, I went to drive and within a block my car shut off on me and I coasted to the side of the road while it threw a bunch of different errors including electronic stability warning. I came to a stop and then all of my windshield wipers randomly started going off, my horn randomly started going off, and the lights in my car started flashing. I pressed the push start button to try to turn it all off. I then got the error meesage that my front left headlight was out, it now is, alos my left blinker now doesn't work properly. I tried to start the car again, no luck. I called a tow truck, the tow truck guy was able to get my engine to start. I explained that my car shut off and asked him to follow me for a little while. I got 2 blocks and came to an stop sign where I idled and my car engine shut off on me again. I had my car towed back to the dealership that did the work. One year after I purchased my Jeep the screen starting delaminating. This created “phantoms touching” It started out small but eventually became to where the Jeep was not fuctional. Including not being able to adjust temperature to defrost or defog my windshield. This is an extreme safety hazard with no work around. The screen overrides anything I do with the physical buttons below it. The screen turns back on even when I try to turn it off. This is especially a problem because I live in the Midwest with plenty of ice & snow. It’s incredible that I have not caused an accident yet. I have made plenty of phone calls to Jeep who refuse to recall the screen even though they have admitted it is a known problem with the screen itself. Not only is it a safety issue but I cannot access several of the main functions.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - Power steering failed while driving with family in vehicle including pregnant wife and toddler. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The power steering turned off while driving and has been deemed defective. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, the dealership confirmed it’s a rack and pinion issue and they are out of stock and on back order. I’m not the only one experiencing this. They also can’t fix my car without a part. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The dealership inspected it. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. The jeep only has 55000 miles on it. I take care of my cars. This issue is known and the part is $2000 not including labor. I want my car fixed and I can’t get it fixed. I rely on this vehicle for my family. They can’t order the part nor find it. I am stuck without power steering. Not by choice.

My Jeep started skipping through screens on the display randomly in August 2022, but since has increasingly doing it nearly everyday now. There is a visible big “drip” look on the screen in the top right corner. The screen now will call contacts on my phone and has also activated the SOS calls 4-5 times. I have to drive without connecting my phone to stop the inadvertent calls but the screens continue to flip through on its own. This is very frustrating and distracting while driving and the obnoxious ding it makes with each switch. The seat warmers flipping on constantly is also very distracting when the high setting is hot enough to make me hop to prevent injury and pain.

The infotainment screen started acting crazy and makes it difficult or impossible to operate the vehicle when misbehaving. The screen will lock up and not respond to any touch control. Powering the vehicle off and on at a traffic light does not fix the issue. Of course, this means I cannot operate the HVAC, navigation nor any other controls requiring the touch screen. The system will also switch on its own into different modes and selections... radio, seat and steering wheel heaters, volume, etc. The problem is frequent and persistent. The screen has also delaminated and is becoming harder to see/read. The malfunctioning of the screen is a big driver distraction taking away from attention on driving. Not being able to turn off or on the seat warmers nor the HVAC when malfunctioning causes discomfort and distraction. I have reached out to Jeep customer care but have not made contact with them yet.

For my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee: the UConnect touchscreen which controls everything from the parking assist functions to navigation to climate is delaminating. As a result of the delaminating screen, the screen will malfunction while driving the vehicle causing it 1) become permanently "stuck" on the rear back up camera/parking assist mode or 2) override driver selections and prompt the driver to select/deselect other functions unrelated to driving causing dangerous distractions and impacting our ability to use the car and system safely.

This concerns the malfunction of 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Uconnect 4C NAV with 8.4-Inch Display UAV Radio. The dealer removed the radio and inspected the problem. The touch screen bubbled/delaminated and the adhesive must of warmed up from the radio use and dripped down to the bottom of the radio affecting other components. The radio will change stations on it's own, navigation won't work. If i have my cell phone on it will make random calls and it will activate the SOS call. That happened 3 times and 2 times i was driving on the highway. That did take my attention away from driving. Now i have to make sure my phone is off when driving. I didn't renew my Uconnect subscription so i didn't get in trouble for that. My chrysler factory warranty denied a replacement. They told me the dealer said something about it was an outside influence (a sticky liquid inside) caused the radio problem that made the radio act that way so it's not covered. About a month ago my Jeep's UConnect touch screen started to mess up. After doing further investigation, I have found out it is a common problem for this model and year of my Jeep and people are describing it as delamination and "ghost touch." This sounds exactly like what mine is doing. It has progressively gotten worse since it started and it is to the point where I can't even control anything because it is just randomly pressing on the screen. I believe this is a safety hazard because I now get very distracted when driving. It has even closed out of my directions when driving and I feel like I have a lack of control over safety features if I needed them. The problem has not been inspected by anyone yet but I have a video of the issue below. There are no error messages that pop up.

The Uconnect system has been delaminating for a while now. As such, there is "ghost pressing" of buttons on the screen. This, while driving, renders many important components of the vehicle unusable. There is a loud ding, then the reverse cameras go out if using them. Navigation ceases to work. Heating, cooling are also affected. I had not given much thought to how bad of a safety hazard this was until it started up on a 3 hour drive. The distractions of having most electric components go haywire while on the road is quite incredible. This is a well known issue so I am dumbfounded that it has not been recalled. I have had 3 quotes on the vehicle and all say that the unit needs to be replaced. Uconnect will not assist and Jeep wants full price for a fix. As such, I have drove my vehicle 1-2K in 15+ months as it is completely unsafe.

The touch screen on my UConnect system is delaminating, and as such it is causing the system to go haywire, constantly asking if I want to change the clock, making phone calls, changing the environment settings along with heated seats/steering wheel and who knows what else as it gets worse I've done some research and this seems to be a common issue in Jeeps around the year I have and it's a safety issue. This is all happening while I'm driving and it's incredibly distracting, not to mention it affects the operation of the vehicle I'm surprised this is not yet a recalled issue but I hope it can be made one soon. It seems like I will have to have this issue fixed out of pocket but hopefully I'll be able to be retroactively reimbursed if the NHTSA can make this a recall promptly Thank you

The touch screen on the vehicle, which contains the navigation, radio, heating and cooling functions, hands free calling and other settings, has begun delaminating. Infotainment screen has slowly been delaminating. Today, the screen began receiving phantom commands. I do not touch the screen, but the screen acts as though I am constantly touching it in random places. The radio, defrost, maps, backup camera, etc. turn on and off. It has made my car unsafe to drive because I can't keep my windshield defrosted, I can't use the navigation feature, I can't properly use the rear camera in reverse, and there is persistent beeping from the screen mistakenly sensing that I am touching it.

On 11/24/22 my touch screen began to show a box that blocked the entire screen asking if I wanted to adjust my clock. I tapped "no" and it would not clear. I tapped the "X" in the corner and it would not clear. So I tapped yes and it took me to another screen to sync with GPS etc. Then it would disappear. It kept repeating this and then would flash and beep. Then disappear and reappear the entire trip. I then noticed that there was a discoloration or delamination at the top of the screen so I "googled" this issue and apparently the 2018 Jeep vehicles have an issue with this where the radio/ navigation / screen system / bluetooth/ Apple Car Play will act on it's own - shut down, change stations, etc. It is still ongoing so I took it to my dealer and they confirmed the delamination issue and have ordered a new radio system. This is a safety concern and I was unable to see the navigation or use the touch screen to control the heating system or anything else controlled by the touch screen, not to mention a distraction while driving.

UNKNOWN: My Uconnect 4C NAV with 8.4 Inch Display Screen started delaminating approximately 4 months ago. The top 1/3 of the screen is delaminated causing the system to randomly change radio stations, change the radio between AM, FM, and Sirius Satellite radio, also keeps beeping with each change and not allowing me to use my navigation system. Also, I keep getting messages repeatedly telling me to reset my clock. This delamination is affecting my Travel Link and also my settings as the screen is jumping all over the place switching randomly to anything it wants to without any input from me. In my opinion this is a very serious safety hazard and could pose a risk for serious injury. Also, my phone was calling wrong numbers at random because the whole system is interconnected with each other. I love my Jeep Grand Cherokee. It is a 25th Anniversary edition and I plan on keeping it forever. I wanted to reach out to you first before I go to the dealer. I presently just turned over 49,000 miles and I realize my 3-year warranty is up but my 5 -year and my travel link won't be up until March of 2023. Thank You very much. I would appreciate any help you could give me to help me resolve this very annoying issue.

While car is driving, the infotainment system which controls heating/air conditioning, NAV, radio, etc. will start to flash, make noises on its own, play the radio and the stations switch on their own. It is extremely dangerous and distracting while trying to drive the car. The only way to stop is to turn it off but then you have no access to a navigation system which presents its own dangers. Without proper heating in the winter months or cooling in the summer months, the car can be dangerously cold or dangerously heated, especially dangerous when driving around young children or my elderly parents. When I contacted the dealer about it, they reported they have heard of this happening, that there is no recall despite the inherent dangers and that it would cost over one thousand to repair. It has not been inspected by any manufacturer, police, insurance rep or others as it has only been occuring for a couple months and I was hoping if I reset the system, it would stop. There have been no warning signals that this is occuring. When I decided to do an internet search, I found that thousands of 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokees are having this issue, that it's been widely reported to NHTSA and that Jeep has not issued a recall, despite the dangerous driving of a vehicle such as this.

There's is a problem with the Touch Screen where a message keeps popping up and after a period of time this causes the Touch Screen to be unusable (can't use Navigation, Radio, Hands Free Calling etc.). after doing research online it appears this is a known problem and is the result of a flaw in the Manufacturer's (LG) process (delamination of adhesive between Screen and Digitial Touch Component). As a side note, I mentioned this when I brought my Jeep into the Dealership for service and they confirmed they were aware of it (their solution is to charge me $2,145 to replace the Radio...the Radio isn't the problem, it's the Touch Screen that has the issue).

I bought my Jeep Grand Cherokee in the end of February 2021 with approx. 52,000 miles on it. All work done to it after this point has been under warranty with me paying all of the deductibles for the warranty work. A couple of weeks after purchase, the problems began. It was overheating, white steam coming out of my exhaust pipes, vibrating very badly, shutting down at traffic lights, amongst other symptoms. As of now, the dealership has replaced 3 new water pumps, and 2 new cylinder heads (both times were issues with the 3rd cylinder). This go round, it’s now back in the shop with another misfire with cylinder 3. The dealership has also replaced the EGR Cooler, Ignition Coil, Motor Mounts, Coolant Flush, Lifters & Rockers & it is still in the shop. All repairs done by the same shop (different technicians throughout the past year and a half). We bought our 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited in 2020 with approximately 12,000 miles on it. Last year we started noticing the radio would change stations on its own once and awhile. It got progressively worse, or more frequent, so I connected Chrysler customer care/Uconnect and the CR asked if the screen on the radio was delaminating and that they were aware of this causing issues. I told them it was not because I had not noticed this problem. Anyway, they said there have been many complaints but no recall thus far. They told me to keep any receipts should I have the radio repaired. A couple weeks later, the sunlight hit the dash just right and I then saw the screen was in fact delaminating at the top from one side to the other. The touch screen on the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited is delaminating and this appears to be a common theme with this vehicle. The delamination causes the screen to "ghost touch" itself and constantly click various parts of the screen. This almost entirely prohibits the use of the HandsFree function, a serious safety issue. When holding the button to activate Siri when my iPhone is connected, Siri will activate but then the screen "ghost touches" itself and immediately deactivates Siri because the screen touches itself not where the Siri logo/listening icon appears. I cannot use Hands Free functions in my vehicle which causes the need to use my hands which is very dangerous. This needs to be recalled to prevent situations where drivers of a 2018 vehicle with CarPlay are forced to use their hands. Further, with the screen touching itself, it is constantly pressing on the screen and selecting different presets, settings, options. I cannot view my Apple Maps on the touch screen because it switches off the screen and begins to play music, pause the music, skip songs, play songs, etc. While listening to the radio, the screen will touch itself and select different presets, changing the station, and be very very distracting. This issue is a serious distraction while driving and puts myself and those I am driving in danger.

Uconnect is aware of this very common issue and refuses to offer a solution. No warning, only visible defect of the delamination was present prior to the unit randomly changing functions on its own.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
