While ACC deactivated but not turned off (in "cancelled state", where you can resume with a button), I was at a Drive-Thru ordering my food, when I finished ordering I slowly lift my foot of the brake then suddenly the car lunged forward as if it was going to catch up to set cruise control speed, fortunately I braked immediately otherwise I could have crashed into the car in front of me. Another incident happened on my driveway, I stopped on my driveway to open the garage door, when I lifted my foot of the brake, the car lunged forward. (Same as before, ACC deactivated but not turned off). It is very scary and worrisome, I am worried that it will happen again and I won't be so lucky then.
2021 Jeep Gladiator complaints
Owner reports filed with NHTSA about this vehicle, newest first and reproduced as filed. They are unverified accounts: one proves nothing, and a pattern across many is the thing worth reading. Back to the full 2021 record →
From when I picked up the new vehicle from the dealership there's been excessive "play" in the steering wheel. The vehicle drifts in its lane, requiring constant corrections. Issue is more pronounced on a highway versus city driving.
Right rear axle seal leak causing oil to go onto brake pads Oil leak from shock absorber reservoir
Right rear axle leaking possibly causing brake contamination and unexpected decrease in braking
Axle has leaked for a second time. No notification. Grease starts to seep out of the right rear passenger side onto the brake rotor and wheel. Fixed at 6800 miles. Happening again at 8500. Was without the truck for a month the first time. There is no warning when this happens.
I bought a new 2021 Jeep Gladiator at Larry H Dealer in Albuquerque NM , after a month and haft more or less I took the car for second time to the Dealer the car was there for 80 days because mirrors, blind spot asist not working , door conector dint click correctly , etc, Dealer told me after 80 days I have to pick up the car unfinish until part will arrive saying the car was safe to drive but battery could drain , never mentioning what could be the reason , a few days after I notice the wiper turning on randomly , the hight beams no working properly and the car having issues with the start. I when to the Dealer with big concern about could be something releared with the computer because they worked on it already and they told me no way could be the cumputer issues .A weeks after I took the car to the Dealer and in a week they fixed the problems without gave me a report about what they did , almost the same that happen in my 80 days before . Verbally at the Dealer they say was somting with the computer but that all what I got from them so far . NHTSA the reason Im filling this is because you can check the safety of the car when are new or even when they are been on the road for a while but Dealer doing what they are not supost to do bring accident to Our Cummunity as wells , We should stop those bad practices before become tragery . Thank You
Accelerating while driving three times last time almost most cause accident I took it to Koons dealership in Tyson corner on 12/26/2021 advisor was greg Jackson it wasn’t happening while I was there so nothing was done….
Multiple incidents of violent death wobble at higher rates of speed between 60 and 75 mph. Vehicle must be rapidly brought to below 35 mph before it settles down. Seems to happen most often on the highway when going over and overpass where the seam between the road and the bridge is. Especially happens when the transition strip is diagonal to the path of travel. Vehicle has been at the dealership twice, first for sloppy and loose steering which they said they were unable to verify, that everything seemed fine. And most recently for the incidents of death wobble. Again the dealership claims they cannot replicate the issue. We feel the vehicle is unsafe to drive and will not pick it up until Chrysler has resolved the issue
Rear Axle Assembly leaking fluid onto rear brake drum and wheel hub assembly, potentially rendering brakes non-functional in rear of vehicle. Excessive drift/play in steering at moderate speeds (40mph+) "Death Wobble" experienced at speeds ~70mph. Front wheels/suspension near total loss of control. Steering column violently shuddering, and required excessive force to control. Vehicle is dealer stock, completely unmodified, with only 9500 miles on it. Dealer currently has vehicle. Replaced rear axle assembly. Currently test driving to try and reproduce shaking in steering and front drivetrain.
8000 miles on new purchase, never off road, this Jeep goes into a violent shimmy/wobble 60-70 when in an ever so slight off of center steering angle on the freeway after crossing an expansion joint or other sharp road irregularity. Coasting down is the only way it goes away. Full Throttle acceleration out doesn't help, nor hard braking. It's NOT consistent, but it's happened to me three times in recent weeks as the summer temperatures subsided from the 80's F into the fall 40-60 F. Again, purchased brand new May 2021, tire pressures are proper, only driver, no other passengers or cargo. The onset is unexpected and frightening. The local Dodge / Jeep dealer where I have had one oil change seems to be unaware of a fleet issue or problem. It seems to be widely reported on various automotive blogs. Please help. The steering seems like it has a lot of play and when driving you have to do a lot of corrections to keep vehicle in its lane
This is the second occurrence I’ve had with this vehicle. While driving on a rural two lane highway, traveling approximately 60 miles per hour, my instrument cluster began to flash a “Service Shifter” warning. This warning was simultaneously joined by a check engine light, random readings of speed, rpm fluctuations, activation of the un-commanded activation windshield wipers, and intermittent loss of power steering. Video of this incident is available from when it occurred in May 2021 at 9000 miles, and again in October 2021 at roughly 18000 miles. It is unknown what system or components are causing this error. The first occurrence was cleared by reseating of fuses, however this second occurrence cannot be resolved so far. The vehicle has been in the shop for 12 days so far with no end in sight. The repair problem has been elevated to FCA by the dealership. My primary safety concern with this incident is the sudden loss of power steering. Should this had occurred to a less experienced driver, roads in poor condition due to weather, or higher speeds, this incident certainly could result in a loss of vehicle control.
I purchased a new 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. The steering wanders at all speeds causing continuous correction of the steering wheel. The vehicle drifts and is potentially a safety hazard. The dealership does not acknowledge there is a problem with the 2021 model.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Gladiator. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH on concrete pavement, after transitioning from the concrete pavement to asphalt, the front end of the vehicle bottomed out inadvertently. The contact veered to the side of the road. The contact was able to continue to drive the vehicle at a lower speed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who tests drove the vehicle and diagnosed that the front shock absorber needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that they would follow up with the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 1,100.
Leaking axle , transmission fluid leaking onto wheel and brakes. Was deemed unsafe to drive, parts on back order. Car swerves hard to right doesn’t steer straight
Leakage of oil from rear passenger side axle seal. Vehicle was purchased new in March 2021 and leak discovered in September 2021.
Purchased vehicle 8/20/21. Car was brought into dealership for repairs to the rear axel leaking. This seems to be a huge problem with gladiator trucks and feel this should be considered a recall. The part needed to fix is on back order with no eta date which is even more concerning. I have a brand new car and I have to drive with it not operating at 100%. There is zero reason for this. If the part is on back order with no eta this is clearly happening g to a lot of other gladiator owners. I discovered leak due to Jeep forum. I’m grateful I checked. Jeep needs to address this and not allow defecting vehicles leave assembly. My car only has 1000 miles and leak was discovered around 950 miles.
Leaking rear axle seal. Needs replacement of entire axle
Leaking rear passenger axle seal. Axle lubricant is spun all around the inside of the wheel and hub assembly; including break pads and caliper.
Right rear axle seal failure, was already inspected and verified at dealership. With the axle seal leaking, there is a hazard and potential for brake failure due to the gear oil covering the rear brake. Also, metal to metal differential gears will occur, causing metal shavings to contaminate the rear differential housing. No warning lamps or any in cab indications were/ are visible. Was noticed by visual inspection after the issue was brought up multiple times on a forum and social media.
The vehicle has a lot of wandering movement while driving. The undercarriage of the vehicle and the driveshaft/steering feels like it is loose. The vehicle is difficult to keep on a center point in the lane Inez; it drives like bumper bowling balls on a bowling lane. I have felt a few times that the vehicle was going to pull into the shoulder of the road or over the center line into oncoming traffic and have to maintain movement in the steering wheel almost constantly to keep it in the lane. I will be taking it in to the dealer for inspection but it only has a few hundred miles on it and I felt it move like that from the first full day I owned it. I brought it home with 27 miles on it. No warning lamps, messages or alarms. Windshield fogs up considerably in the rain and the defroster only makes it partially clear. Window gets condensation on it from the defroster so it fogs the window anyway. Tried multiple settings and temperatures to resolve, even opening the windows and still difficult to clear windshield of excessive moisture when no external precipitation.
No single incident to report. Vehicle needs constant re-steering while at highway speeds. Vehicle drifts constantly and needs constant adjustment to stay on road. Have had the vehicle back to the Dealer two times for repairs. Dealer says no fault found. But does agree that there is a defect. Says best case is to wait for a recall on situation. Am an unhappy customer.
Right rear axle seal leaking fluid onto the brake rotor, caliper, pads and wheel. From research this appears to be a common problem with this model year with numerous owners reporting that dealerships are replacing the entire axle assembly on that side.
Right Rear axle seal is leaking fluid after only 3,500 miles and 3 months of ownership. This axle fluid is leaking onto the brake rotor and the wheel.
Dealer noticed Right rear axel leaking.
Rear passenger axle seals in 2021 models are leaking and leaving axle lubricant on brake pads
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Gladiator. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that there was a failure with the occupant classification module which produced fault code: B2122-00. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 3,153.
RIGHT REAR AXLE LEAK AT 200 MILES, leaking behind the wheel from the axle housing down on the brake shield and into the wheel rim.
Jeep is seeing a common issue with the passenger side rear axle seal leaking which is then leaking onto the brake and could cause a potential safety issue
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Gladiator. The contact stated while driving at 70 mph, a rock flew and hit the window causing the windshield to crack on the passenger side. The vehicle was taken to a glass repair shop where it was diagnosed with the windshield needing to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred a week later causing the windshield to crack down the middle. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,500.
I have a 2021 Jeep Gladiator Sport S 3.6L with an automatic transmission. I have been the only owner of the vehicle and bought it new in February 2021. The vehicle currently has just over 9700 miles. The only modification done to the vehicle are new wheels and tires. Today while out for a drive the Jeep suddenly experienced a malfunction. All lights and indicators on the dash began to flash various lights, alarms and warnings. The check engine light, ABS light, and airbag lights came on, along with the ECM warning, steering and traction control lights. The fuel level showed zero, then full, the warning screen flashed messages including: Speed Control, Messaging Unavailable, Service Required- No Bus, then switching to Service Electronic Stability Control, and a BRAKE warning appeared. Next, and most alarming, the vehicle showed the error AUTO PARK DISABLED which resulted in a loss of power steering control. The vehicle would not shift correctly and the engine switched on and off with the transmission indicator flashing all gears and the windshield wipers starting on their own, finally rotating to "Service Shifter" before starting the cycle over. Because I was on a back country road I was able to make a safe controlled stop. Had this occurred on a busy highway there could very easily have been an accident from loss of control. I do have video of the screen flashes and wipers activating.
Gas "burps" back out when filling up. When filling up, after the gas nozzle shuts off with the first click, the Jeep instantly "burps" gasoline back out. I've performed 3 fill ups at different pumps, and this has occured in 2 out of those 3 fill ups.
The steering is very loose and I have to correct the steering constantly. This is a new truck and is scary to drive. I can't go over 40 mph because it starts to wander and correcting its course causes it to wobble. When I come to a stop it pulls to one side and I have almost had a couple of accidents trying to keep the truck on course. The dealership will not fix it because there isn't an official memo from the manufacturer.
THIS JEEP GLADIATOR HAS AN INORDINATE AMOUNT OF DRIFT/WANDER IN THE STEERING AT JUST ABOUT ALL SPEEDS.
2021 GLADIATOR STEERING PROBLEM. BE DRIVING STEERING GETS LOOSE.. ABLE TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL ABOUT 2 INCHES EITHER WAY WITHOUT THE WHEELS MOVING THEN TIGHTEN BACK UP FOR AWHILE THEN HAPPEN AGAIN. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP SAY IT'S"NORMAL PLAY FOR A JEEP" COULD SEE OR PRODUCE THE PROBLEM. HAD THE JEEP IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR ALMOST ONE MONTH SINCE MARCH UNTIL TODAY I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE THE GEAR BOX OR POWER STEERING POWER THEY SAID NO BUT COULDN'T GIVE A REASON WHY IT WAS DOING IT
THE VEHICLE AT HIGHER SPEEDS IS HARD TO CONTROL AND KEEP STRAIGHT. THE STEERING SEEMS TO BE LOOSE AND HAVE TOO MUCH PLAY. THIS MAKES IT HARD TO STAY IN THE LANE WITHOUT CONSTANTLY MOVING THE STEERING BY WHEEL LEFT AND RIGHT AS IF YOU WERE PLAYING A VIDEO GAME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2021 JEEP GLADIATOR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE UPON PLACING THE GEAR SHIFTER INTO REVERSE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT REVERSE OR OPERATE AS NEEDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REVERSE AND DRIVE LIGHTS WERE FLASHING ON THE SHIFTER COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MARLOW MOTOR COMPANY CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (707 N. COMMERCE AVE, FRONT ROYAL, VA 22630) HOWEVER, THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT YET DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE REMAINED IN POSSESSION OF THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2021 JEEP GLADIATOR. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 67 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOSS MOTIVE POWER AND STALLED. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ADJUSTED THE BATTERY TERMINAL FOR THE VEHICLE TO RESTART AND OPERATE AS DESIGNED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALER MIRACLE CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (1290 NASHVILLE PIKE, GALLATIN, TN 37066) WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,400. INVALID VIN.
ON THE HIGHWAY INCREASING SPEEDS THE VEHICLE BECAME HARD TO STEER AND STAY IN LANE AS GETTING UP TO THE SPEED LIMIT OF 70 MPH IT BECAME WORSE WITH THE VEHICLE GOING BACK AND FORTH MAKING IT DANGEROUS TO DRIVE.
DEFROST ONLY WORKS FOR THE CENTER PORTION OF THE WINDSHIELD. NO AIR COMES FROM THE RIGHT OR LEFT SIDES OF THE DEFROST VENTS. THE LEADS TO LOSS OF VISIBILITY FOR THE DRIVER ESPECIALLY IN ADVERSE CONDITIONS.
STEERING IS LOOSE AND IS DIFFICULT TO STAY IN LANE WHEN DRIVING. THE PROBLEM AMPLIFIES WITH SPEED AND REQUIRES CONSTANT DANGEROUS OVER CORRECTION ESPECIALLY IN ADVERSE CONDITIONS LIKE SNOW OR ICE.
VEHICLE HAS IRREGULAR DOWNSHIFTS IN LOWER GEARS. WHILE BRAKING THE DOWNSHIFTS CAN BE HEARD AS WELL AS FELT. THE SOUNDS AND SHAKE FROM DOWNSHIFTS VARY IN LOUDNESS AND STRENGTH. OCCASIONALLY WHILE BRAKING AND THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IS DOWNSHIFTING, THE VEHICLE WILL SURGE FORWARD. THE SURGE THAT CAN BE FELT CAN VARY AND SEEM LIKE THE VEHICLE IS BEING HIT FROM THE REAR BY ANOTHER VEHICLE OR SOMETIMES IT MAY FEEL LIKE A SLIGHT PUSH FROM BEHIND. WHILE DRIVING AND BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS LIKE IN A PARKING LOT THE SURGE FROM DOWNSHIFTS ARE A DEFINITE SAFETY CONCERN. THE LOUD DOWNSHIFTS AS WELL AS THE SURGING DOES NOT HAPPEN ON EVERY DOWNSHIFT. A SEARCH OF ONLINE JEEP FORUMS REVEALED OTHER JEEP GLADIATOR OWNERS WITH SIMILAR ISSUES WHILE OTHERS HAVE VERY SMOOTH SHIFTING VEHICLES. JEEP SHOULD BE AWARE OF ISSUES BUT CLEARLY WITH MY 2021 MODEL BEING THE SECOND YEAR OF PRODUCTION, THE PROBLEMS ARE NOT FIXED.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
