Engine and Engine Cooling › Engine › Oil/Lubrication › Seals/Gaskets20V705000
Filed Nov 13, 202060,097 vehiclesHyundai Motor America
Defect. Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2007-2012 Veracruz vehicles that were previously recalled under recall number 14V-415. Oil may leak from the front cylinder bank cover gasket, potentially dripping onto the alternator and causing the charging system to become inoperative.
Risk. An inoperative charging system can result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy. Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the valve cover gasket and repair it as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed September 7, 2021. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 197.

Filed Jul 8, 201461,122 vehiclesHyundai Motor Company
Defect. Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2007-2012 Veracruz vehicles manufactured from December 26, 2006, through July 24, 2012. The affected vehicles may experience an oil leak from the front cylinder bank valve cover gasket. If there is a sufficient amount of oil dropped onto the alternator, the alternator will be damaged causing the charging system to become inoperative.
Risk. If the alternator is damaged, the charging system warning lamp in the instrument cluster will illuminate, and the engine will lose power and the vehicle will eventually stop operating while being driven. An unexpected failure of motive power while driving increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy. Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect/repair or replace the alternator and the front valve cover gasket, free of charge. Hyundai sent out an interim letter to owners on September 3, 2014. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 121.
Filed Apr 1, 20131,712,336 vehiclesHyundai Motor Company
Defect. Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
Risk. Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy. Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

I was driving home from work after picking my [XXX] daughter up from school. The car started making a noise I hadn’t heard before while I was traveling on [XXX] in Huntsville, AL. I got off at the nearest exit to take it to the place that changes my oil. The car didn’t travel more than a few miles before the oil light flashed and car just shut off and wouldn’t start in the second to far right lane of [XXX] It was busy rush-hour traffic and I had to contact AAA for towing as well as non-emergency police to avoid being rear-ended. The police arrived within 15 minutes and the tow truck within 45 minutes. While I waited, I contacted the place that performs my oil changes and was advised that there’s a class action lawsuit against Hyundai for the known issue of engine failure with my vehicle and they advised I have it towed to dealership for repair under the lawsuit. The next day, a mechanic contacted my ex-husband (who contacted AAA for towing of the vehicle) to advise it would be 2 days before diagnosis could occur. I called Friday, November 8th and was told vehicle is past warranty (at 161,000 miles); no appointment was made so would take several weeks to diagnose and I needed to pay $155.99 for diagnosis. I explained details shared with me about lawsuit and was told my vehicle wasn’t included. I contacted Hyundai Corporate and was told the same but advised that they are aware of oil consumption issues which could cause engine failure and asked that they do the right thing and

I have received three recall letters form Hyundai VeraCruz regarding an interim recall in January 2021, March 2021 and May 2021. I had the vehicle in for mechanical repairs to the rear brake system in Late February 2021 and was informed there was several leaks noted at the time. Within the next few weeks, I noted that when accelerating onto the highway that the battery light, security light and seatbelt light would flash for about 10 seconds but then go off. . I waited to hear on a repair solution from Hyundai but only received another interim letter in March. In the end of April, I had spoken to the dealership where I purchased the vehicle ,Auto Warehouse of Brighton, and was told Hyundai would have to repair due to the recall. I have contacted three Hyundai service centers and have been told that they are unable to repair under the recall as there has not been a remedy for the recall. On Sunday, May 30, the vehicle was making an odd noise and I asked a mechanic friend to look at it. While inspecting, he stated the bearings in the alternator seized. The vehicle is now not functional, Hyundai Customer Care cannot provide a possible date for the recall to be remedied. This recall has been going on now since November 2020 and is unresolved. I am without a vehicle due to this and have not been provided any possible timeline when the issue may be resolved.

AROUND SEPT. 2017, WHILE IN MOTION ON CITY STREET. VEHICLE'S 2 WARNING LIGHTS TURNED ON, 1ST WAS CHECK ENGINE, THEN NOT LONG AFTER THAT OIL WARNING LIGHTS. LUCKILY I WASN'T TO FAR FROM HOME THAT THE VEHICLE DIDN'T STOP RUNNING AND MADE IT HOME. SO WHEN I GOT HOME I TOLD MY HUSBAND ABOUT IT. BEFORE CHECKING ENGINE COMPARTMENT HE NOTICED OIL DRIPPING AND COOLANT DRIPPING UNDER THE CAR DOWN TO THE GROUND. AND IT WAS A LOT OF SPILLAGE THAT IT EMPTY BOTH OIL AND COOLANT FROM CAR. HE OPENED HOOD ENGINE COMPARTMENT TO CHECK THE LEVEL OF OIL AND FIND'S IT WAS LOW OF OIL. AT THE SAME TIME HE NOTICED OIL LEAKAGE COMING FROM THE VALVE COVER SECTION, LEAKING DOWN TO ALTERNATOR AND COVERED WITH OIL. AFTER THAT HE VISUALLY CHECKED THE RADIATOR AND THERE WAS NO COOLANT, IT WAS EMPTY. SO SINCE THEN I NEVER RAN THE CAR OR WAS OUT OF SERVICE. I WAS TOO BUSY BACK THEN AND NO MONEY TO GET IT FIX. LUCKILY I HAVE ANOTHER CAR TO GET AROUND WITH. SO JUST RECENTLY, A FRIEND MENTIONED TO GO ONLINE AND CHECKED TO SEE IF ANY RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE'S PROBLEM OR MAKE A COMPLAIN. HOPEFULLY IT'S A MANUFACTURE'S PROBLEM AND WILL LIKE A RESPOND, SO I CAN GET THIS CAR ROLLING AGAIN.

I WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO SHIFT INTO PARK AND BRAKE PEDAL WAS LOCKED. I WAS ONLY ABLE TO PUT INTO NEUTRAL AND TURN VERACRUZ OFF AND APPLY EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE. DOORS WILL OPEN BUT WILL NOT TURN ENGINE OVER. LIGHTS FLASH AS IF BUT WILL NOT START. THERE IS NO DASHBOARD LIGHTS TO INDICATE ANYTHING WRONG, THE ESC LIGHT WENT AWAY. THE ABS LIGHT, ESC LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT AND AWD LIGHT ALL ILLUMINATED. THE DEALERSHIP TRIED TWICE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, BUT COULD NOT LOCATE ANY CODES FOR IT. THE THIRD TIME THE ISSUE AROSE, THE DEALER DECIDED THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE ABS SENSOR. THE VEHICLE IS A 2008 VERACRUZ PURCHASED IN MAY 2009. I WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS JUST PAST THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND THAT HYUNDAI WOULD NOT COVER THIS ITEM. IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS BECOMING A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, AS THERE HAVE BEEN AT LEAST 15 COMPLAINTS ON THE NHTSA SITE AND MANY MORE LISTED IN THE HYUNDAI FORUMS ONLINE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE AND SEE IF A RECALL IS WARRANTED. THANK YOU. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HYUNDAI VERACRUZ. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A STOP, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.
Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.
