While driving, I was in the middle of a left turn and had a reduction of the power steering assist system. I had to hit the brakes before entering the opposing traffic. I had to muscle the steering wheel to get out of the middle of the road.

I would like to write about my experience with New Port Richey Hyundai. I have owned a Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited since 2015. I take immaculate care of my car and it only has 65,000 miles. All maintenance has been done regularly and on time. For the last six months I have had a warning light and alarm going off for a few seconds once in a while, which shuts off my cruise control. I took the car in, in the spring of 2023 to have the codes read and no problems were found. Finally, In July of 2023, while my wife was in traffic it started again and totally shut off the car. Unfortunately, the brakes did not work as well. She was going up a slight incline and was able to come to a stop. The brake pedal went completely to the floor. The warning was about a Hybrid System Failure. It was very upsetting to her that her brakes failed when the Hybrid system had a problem. This should never happen! Once the car was towed to New Port Richey Hyundai in Florida, we were told that the car would be look after. The car was returned in the middle of July 2023 with a new electric motor installed. Everything was working fine until today, August 23, 2023. The same warning light that I brought the car in for in May 2023 is going off again. It only stays on for a second or two, so I don’t have time to read it. I really hope this car does not shut off again with no brakes when traveling on the interstate. As mentioned before the car has low miles and is well cared for. This should not be happening
The contact’s daughter owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while the vehicle was idling, the vehicle hesitated. The contact stated that his daughter had to depress the accelerator pedal to rev the engine. The contact then stated that on a separate occasion while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle hesitated and stalled. Additionally, the contact stated that on another separate occasion while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated. The contact’s daughter was able to regain control of the vehicle and depressed the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the vehicle remained. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
Strong gas Odor from inside the vehicle low pressure fuel pump is leaking from underneath the back seat of the vehicle down the side of fuel tank onto the exhaust it can cause a fire fuel pump is cracked on nipple the pressure line connects to that runs to the motor on the vehicle repair cost is over 1000 dollars to replace the fuel pump to fix the issue
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? My engine stopped working while I was driving on the highway from Texas to Norman. This happened when I tried downshifting from 6 to 5. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I had to find a way to maneuver from the fast lane to the side of the road without putting myself or any other road user at risk. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? After several failed diagnoses from different specialists such as auto locksmiths and other mechanics looking at the alternator and starter as possible causes of the problem, I had to have it towed to the Hyundai dealership in Norman to have it diagnosed and I was told that it was very likely to be an engine recall issue with a motor inside the engine having locked up. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? It was inspected by Hyundai Norman and they confirmed that it was the engine recall issue, but after sending it to Hyundai headquarters, they are unable to work on the problem due to my vehicle having a salvage title. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There were no warning lamps, messages or symptoms prior to the engine failure
Component : High pressure fuel pump Is being fixed as speak ; can provide statement and diagnostic from mechanic. 2. The first time the fuel pump failed it went out on the freeway, I was accelerating onto the freeway and I hear a big pop sound , the whole car went into limp mode . Leaving to cruising on the freeway. No warning , no check engine . I had children in the car . The issue was deemed ; a faulty fuel pump . Second time mechanic let me know there was a crack in the pump ( had been replaced less than a year ago ) . Because of the crack , gas & fumes filled the cabin of the vehicle , to the point where you could not operate without having all windows down . The vehicle could have caught fire ! Me and my family could have been hospitalized because of these fumes coming through the vents. Again, no check engine , nothing ! That repair is being fixed as we speak . Another $1,200 job . 3. No the vehicle has not been inspected by insurance or law enforcement . Only by licensed mechanic shops . 4. There were no warnings , Both times the high pressure fuel pump failed . No prior signs of the issue the first time & the second time the gas smell was so unbearable , that was the indication .
I have taken my car to mechanic and they have told me that my car is leaking gasoline. They recommended that I go to the dealer. When I called the dealer they told me that I would have to pay for the diagnosis. This is obviously concerning as gasoline fumes are toxic. There has been no warning lamps turned on this whole time but can definitely smell it when I finish my ride.
Engine just stopped while driving This should be apart of the attached recall but it is not showing when looked up by my vinn. How to update this?
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that two weeks after having the oil changed, the low oil warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed to not add oil but to bring the vehicle back to the dealer at 1,000 miles driven. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
The power steering went out on two different occasions. The power steering assist light came on (red steering wheel light in the lower left corner of panel). The car was extremely difficult to drive. Once the car was shut off the system reset and the steering was normal. I brought the car to the dealership twice and they told me they could not duplicate the problem and could not repair the car unless they could duplicate the problem. Hyundai USA basically told me the same thing; even though there must be a known issue because they have extended the warranty on the power steering assist system. The dealership and Hyundai's only solution was to have the car inspected at another dealership. This is a ridiculous solution since the problem seems to be an intermittent issue. Having the car inspected by another dealership will not solve anything. I believe this issue makes my car UNSAFE to drive! Hyundai will not reply to my questions such as: why an error code was not recorded when the power steering light is triggered? Hyundai should pay for the repair of these issues as they are reported by the owner and not only when it is occurring at the dealership.
While turning in an intersection on a highway, car displayed check hybrid system and shut down. power steering could not engage so braking and turning was almost impossible. Car had to be towed, was not able to be restored
The panoramic sunroof wind deflector is off I seen online there was a recall about that. I call hyundai customer service about it they said it's been fix already in 2016. I'm a new owner and not sure where the work was done before I got it, but it came unglued again. I purchased the car from John amato hyundai dealership and get the services done there because I'm under a forever warranty and can't going anywhere eles because of the warranty. Which nothing is done free on it and all the work I've had done from them I believe they don't do everything because it still rides and sounds the same and there #1 excuse is that's how hyundai cars sounds. So with that being said if John amato fixed it, I see why it failed again. Can check my car to see if recalls were really preformed and done correctly and what's needed now to be like new again.
The electric power steering suddenly failed while making a turn on a neighborhood road shortly after beginning a drive. The incident also triggered warning lights for the Forward Collision Warning System, Lane Departure Warning System, and Smart High Beam System. I was able to return the car to a safe location and turn it off. When I turned the car back on later, power steering and other systems worked normally. The service center was unable to recreate the issue. They recommended replacing the steering column for a cost of $3,000+ but did not perform the service due to the issue not recurring. Approximately 10 days later, the electric power steering failed again while backing out of a parking space. It worked normally again after turning the car off and back on. It is unclear if this issue is connected to the known problem with the steering coupler in this vehicle. (My specific vehicle was not included in the recall associated with the coupler issue, but has demonstrated the steering catch/clunk that is the hallmark of that problem.)
Engine failure due to a problem with the type of engine. Hyundai denied warranty and class action settlement claim, due to exceptional neglect. All oil changes etc were accounted for. the car with no warning, had been driving great, lost all power and left me and my two grandchildren on the side of the road. The Hyundai dealership confirmed that the engine was blown. There were no warnings
The engine and yes it is. Because my car turned off in the middle of the loop on the highway when there was a lot of traffic and we could have gotten hit. No it has not been. No it has not been. We were driving on the highway then the engine started sputtering and it wouldn’t go faster then 40 when I tried pulling off to the side that’s when the engine ,battery ,and oil light turned on and after that the car just shut off and wouldn’t want to turn back on.
While driving, received Hybrid system warning that shut the car down . Power steering and braking were non-existent so safely stopping and pulling over was near impossible.
My 2015 Hyundai Sonata has recently been having both electrical and engine problems. Roughly a month ago, I had my vehicle completely stall in the middle of the highway. I lost power and a bunch of lights came on at once. Thankfully, I was in the right lane so I was able to safely get off the road even though I had many other cars speeding around me. I had no acceleration, I was just cruising off the highway at this point. Thankfully, my brakes did still work. Engine light and a bunch of errors turned on but went away once I pulled off and restarted the vehicle. I pulled off the road and once I decided to try and start it and go again, my car felt like it had hardly any power the whole way home. Fast forward to last weekend, I was driving home and my car would not accelerate. The engine light comes on and this time, my acceleration didn’t completely shut off, I was just very limited. I had to ease into the gas because I felt like it was having a hard time shifting gears and keeping up with the RPMS. I felt uncomfortable pushing it above 50. As I got close to home, I noticed a knocking noise in the engine. I plugged one of my code readers in and it spit out 7e8, 7e9 and I believe it was p1326. Super rough start and feels like it’s going to break down if I try to drive it. I’ve left it parked since
I am unsure what exactly happened but it is giving an error code for the engine sensor. I was driving the expressway (55-65MPH) and my car went directly into safe mode. Which I didn’t kno what it was til later. I went from going expressway speed to almost getting t-boned getting off of the exit ramp as I was unable to accelerate over 2RPMs. So my acceleration would jolt my car when going over 2RPMs. I made it to a gas station where I had my mechanic friend meet me. He said I had no oil. We put 4 quarts in and it barely did the job! I had gotten my car serviced and oil changed not too far from when my car began to “shut down”. So oil is in the compartment, the engine light turns off. Well then I’m driving the expressway AGAIN thinking the problem is solved but also curious WHY and HOW I had no oil. All of a sudden the car goes back into the mode. Engine light comes on an I am once again going de-accelerating in traffic on an expressway. I get off an exit and make it home in back roads. I had to pay for rentals and I was unable to get it to the Hyundai manufacturer. I got it to another certified mechanic which stated there is an oil leak somewhere but is unable to be found. As the 4qts added days prior, was almost gone again. The engine sounds awful, there’s rattling noises, noises sounding like a fan is broken but still spinning. There was absolutely NO warning signs prior. Nothing was on, nothing was off, absolutely NOTHING to forewarn me of this awful situation until it deci
Hyundai is having failed engine problems after certain amount of mileage. The engine is burning oils with no leaks anywhere in the engine. You change engine oil after a week we will see the engine light flashing on your dashboard. This is my 2nd vehicle with the same problem. Thank you
The air bag warning light illumination. Dealer replaced the "clock spring" in steering wheel. This part was recalled for all like vehicles through 2014 and warranty as extended to 100,000 miles or 14 years. Model year 2015 was not included in the recall, yet the same part failed thereby making the driver's front air bag inoperable. It should have been included in the recall. I requested reimbursement from the manufacturer in the amount of $638.50 but was told the vehicle was no longer under warranty. No vehicle should br driven without properly working air bags.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.
I have about 119,000 miles on my Sonata. One day while driving in normal conditions my check engine light illuminated and my RPMs were limited. I was Able to limp it home and park it. I hooked Up my OBD11 reader and it gives me p1326 code for knock sensor. After some investigation I read Hyundai has a recall for excessive rod bearing wear that leads to engine failure. I’ve checked my VIN with this recall and my 2015 sonata does not qualify even though it has the same engine and make as the recall covers. Knock sensor has been replaced and of course it wasn’t the problem as you can clearly hear the knocking in the engine.
I’ve been with my car for 2 years due to engine failure.
We have a 2015 hyundai sonata with a panoramic sunroof. About 2 weeks ago we opened the sunroof and noticed the wind deflector popped up higher than normal. When we tried to close the sunroof it would not close. The deflector was sticking up and we had to push it down quickly to avoid punching our hands in the sunroof. It still did not want to close after we tried, but the sunroof was down almost all the way. We called hyundai the same day to get it looked at. We thought maybe it broke something in the process of closing because it didn't look closed 100%. They could not get us in until mid August. We were not too concerned because the sunroof was mostly closed down so rain could not get in. Today driving about 50 mph the sunroof just FLEW off the car and shattered into a million pieces in full traffic. Someone could have been seriously injured!! There was absolutely no indication that the sunroof was not secure on our vehicle otherwise we would not have drove it
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact lifted her foot off the accelerator pedal; however, the vehicle remained accelerating while the RPMs fluctuated. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The contact stated that the engine consumed one quart of engine oil every week. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the vehicle shut off without warning. The contact had the battery replaced, but the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that ECM needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that after being parked at a rest station for an undisclosed period, his wife attempted to start the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to start. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence and later towed to the dealer, who determined that the engine had seized. The dealer related the failure to Manufacturer Service Campaign: 953 (Engine) however, the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 136,000.
My vehicle consumes oil in a very large amount. This has been happening since I bought the vehicle. Have had it checked numerous times. No oil leaks, no bad parts. I have to add 1 quart of oil every week to my car and I only drive locally. Mechanic states it is a common issue with this make and model of car. Nothing can be done except check oil levels daily. This is costly over time and worries me that if I dont keep a watch then my oil level will be too low and my engine will blow up. Blogs have also verified other owners have the same issue. Need something done about this issue. Why isn't there a recall to fix issue?
My car has an anti theft defect that’s making cars like mine easy to be stolen. Over the weekend I took my kids to six flags and my car was stolen. I had my 3 kids with me and my wife. My kids are scared and feels unsafe. If theirs anything you guys can do to help me out, I will appreciate it. I do not have the money to fix my car at the time. I need my car to get back and forth to work.
Engine is burning 1 quart of oil in 800 miles.oil has heavy smell of gasoline.
Several times this has happened. I am driving and all of a sudden my car stops and I get a message that says Hybrid System Warning, Safely Stop and Do Not Drive. The car will coast to the side of the road at times and other times it won't. I have taken it to the Holler Hyundai dealer in Winter Park FL and they told me nothing was wrong with it. They had my car for less than an hour. I told them there was no way they could have fixed the issue but they said they did. Obviously they didn't fix it because it has happened several times since then. Now my car will not even move. It starts up, radio works, AC works, just will not move. It is at the Sanford Hyundai service shop waiting for them to tell me what it is
My car had been in and out of dealership going through oil consumption testing. Was at dealership on Monday June 19th having more pictures as well as dropping oil pan etc. I was told Friday June 23 2023 car would be ready they were checking a seal to make sure it didn’t leak. I picked car up brought it home went out of town with my fiancée in his vehicle. Drove my car on Monday June 26th to work when I got off I picked my granddaughter and mother up. Drove home and 5 minutes of being inside my car exploded in my driveway. I did receive 1st degree burns was treated at my local ER.
City driving and the bells and warning message on the dash stated the electrical system was being evaluated for causes why the engine/electric drive failed
My 2015 Hyundai Sonata has issues when switching from eco-to standard to sports, it constantly shakes when approaching a red light or stop.. my vehicle is constantly stock and vandalize and stole. Need you to easy assessability by thieves. this constitute higher insurance for me and consistent problems
Can't use eco sport motor is accelerate and the car can't read the sensors a/c stop working brakes hard to press
2015 Hybrid Sonata, milages at 82,000 km, owned for 8 years. "Hybrid system warning, do not drive" message occurred, car lost 100% of its power, went into complete stop without any warnings on the middle of the highway. Hazard lights do not work and unable to warn incoming traffic that the car has completely stalled in the highway. The car is unsafe to drive. Went to Hyundai (here in Canada) several times, being charged every time for diagnostic and repair works, been told that the issues were fixed via software update. Problem persists. There are compelling evidences from different car forums, websites and NHTSA own database (28 reports under Unknown, 22 reports under Electrical sys. categories...) on the hybrid system failure or/and 100% power lost lead to complete stalled car. Although all these reports did not site any injury, major or death events, NHTSA should compel Hyundai to take appropriate actions to render the car safe to drive for the public because if accidents should happened, it cannot be undone and will affect lives of people. The public relies on a governing body to represent us and hold the manufacturer responsable to ensure that their mkt released products are safe: to save lives, prevent injuries, reduce vehicle-related crashes.
Rear passenger door will not lock manually or via manufacturer installed causing issues with child safety lock and at high speeds can be opened causing injuries and or death ,Windscreen on panoramic sunroof detaches causing safety hazard
My steering wheel locked up and I had to turn the car off and back on again in order to steer.
Started the vehicle and shifted into gear and the vehicle started to shake and vibrate. The engine was knocking and running very poorly. Within a minute the service engine light came on. We were able to get the vehicle back in to the garage. I opened the hood and checked the oil. The dipstick was dry. The end of the dipstick appeared to have burnt oil on it. I took some pictures and a video of this. I did some simple online research and found numerous cases an articles pertaining to this situation. I have had all my routine maintenance performed at a dealership since it was purchased. I added 3 quarts of oil and now the dipstick reads half-way between Low and Full. I started the vehicle and the engine still shakes and runs poorly. The nearest Hyundai dealer is over 20 miles away and I don't think the vehicle will make it that far. Do I even have any other options than trying to "limp" the car there and possibly mess more things up in the process?
When I am driving car starts shaking a little I stop at a light and when I want to accelerate all of a sudden I step on gas and it wont drive i in middle of intersection it started shaking like it was going to turn off but didn't the check engine light came on but it never turned off i slowly accelerated and it kept driving I got to work turned it off when I turned back on the check engine light was no longer on .i have no idea what happened or why . And my brakes always make noise i had my breaks done in November they don't need replaced yet
Driving on a busy street the car suddenly started to show a Hibrid system warning safety stop and do not drive and then the car slowed down on traffic scary situation since it was a busy road then another car pulled up and two guys help get it out of the road since the car would not start again. Our safety was at risk on the middle of the road and could possibly caused an accident. The problem still persist I towed it to the dealer and paid for a diagnostic wich the dealer took a month to return the car back to me and they did two recalls but never performed a diagnostic on the car and instead they just called the tech line and gave me a $6000.00 estimate for a hi voltage battery replacement.
My Hyundai Sonata 2015 built in Alabama in on December 13, 2014. I recently found out that a problem I've been having for the last five years with my driver's seatbelt not retracting when it is disengaged, was a recall issue for Hyundai Sonatas 2011 through May 2014. I also found out when I contacted the NHTSA, that an auto manufacturer has the discretion to determine which car models are anticipated to be affected. If you look at the complaint log for Hyundai Sonatas 2015 4DR FWD, this seatbelt retraction issue is specified at least 15 times dating from Sept 5, 2015 to April 3, 2023. Below is my experience with this same issue, which is still ongoing, and has affected my safety and confidence in my car. My car has less than 45,000 miles on it. Around 2018, my driver side seat belt started to periodically not retract automatically when it was disengaged from the buckle. I needed to start manually feed the seat belt back into its mounting or it would just lay on the floor. I brought the issue to the service tech at a dealership in March 2018 and the problem was not even recorded on the invoice and was dismissed as not evident to the service tech. It was also not recorded with other mechanical issues at all or honestly in my car's official service record.) The problem continued and started getting worse during in 2020, but I was not driving much due to the pandemic. I brought the issue to the attention at a different dealership in June 2022, during servicing for a recall campai
Since around 6/2022 been having oil issues but really didn't start getting bad till 12/2022 while driving car has rattling noise with acceleration and almost stalls due to oil light kept popping on and off come to find out I was almost out of oil. which lately i have been having to constantly check my oil due too high oil usage and keep a jug in my trunk every where I go so I don't stall on side of the road and not to mention that oil light really doesn't give warning of oil being low either. So my co worker had me check to see how fast it burns oil. we put oil in the car on a friday and by the next friday its low again and now it may 2023 and burning oil at a higher rate of me checking twice a week now. i check my car on a sunday an put oil in and it was out by thursday. this is really a hazard and very dangerous while driving because you don't know when the oil is low or out and light does't give warning and you can completely stall in traffic if you don't keep check and cause a accident and i have children and myself and family and others to watch out for. I hope this matter is taken care of quickly before someone gets hurt a recall to fix this matter is urgent
Engine hesitation ( after throttle applied Engine acceleration ( w/no throttle applied Engine stalled ( with no code ) Dealer said because its intermittent & can not recreate & no codes found, there was nothing they could do. Icarus has stalled in the middle of intersection
While driving on the 91 freeway in the Fasttrack lanes, this warning displayed on the dashboard: "Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop and Do Not Drive." The Fasttrack lanes are on 91 freeway are cordoned off, so there is no way to get out for 10 miles. We had to continue driving, but the car started losing power after 2-3 miles and began stalling. It was an extremely dangerous situation. We were very fortunate to find a construction zone that allowed us to pull the car into a safe spot. Once the car was stopped, it would not start and had to be towed to the dealer (Cardinal Way Hyundai in Corona, CA) on May 8. The dealer ran diagnostics and sent the codes to Hyundai tech center. The tech center advised the dealer to update the system software. After updating the software the dealer returned the car to me on May 9. Previously, on Aug 17, 2020, I had the same warning light “Hybrid System Warning!...” while driving on the highway. I was able to take an exit and park the car safely. I had to get it towed to the same dealer. The dealer reported that the diagnostic “measured resistance at safety plug. Found open circuit. Replaced safety plug.” The car was fixed and returned to me on the same day. It is completely unacceptable to have a car shut down without any warning in the middle of the freeway. If we had stopped in the middle of the freeway, it would have resulted in a very bad accident and could have resulted in loss of life. The tow truck driver told us that he has towed many
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact coasted the vehicle off to the shoulder of the highway and the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The contact then discovered that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V749000 (Exterior Lighting, Electrical System) which the mechanic linked to the failure. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer where she was informed that the part was on backorder. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle revved up and stalled. Additionally, while accelerating, the vehicle lost motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the intake cam assembly, CVT assembly intake, tensioner, timing chain, rubber gasket, and plug needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and provided a case number and informed the contact that the repairs were not covered under warranty or recall. The failure mileage was approximately 73,876.
As I was driving down a highway going 65 my steering wheel pretty much locked up. I got a red steering wheel light and traction control light came on to and I could barely turn. I looked this up and a lot of people are saying it's the wiring with the power steering. How is this not a recall? Me and my kids could of died or I couldn't of hit someone else also. Now it's not doing it. But then today as I was driving the kids to school it happened again.
While driving on a highway, I heard a rattling sound, which could best be described as tying cans to the car and dragging them along the road. I had never heard this noise before. No safety indicator lights turned on to alert me of any issue. With minutes of first hearing the sound, a very loud pop noise could be heard, followed by immediate engine power failure. I was able to navigate off of the highway, into a more residential area. Upon the vehicle coming to a stop on its own (I was not able to apply the brakes at all), a dark cloud of smoke starting coming from underneath the hood. Seconds later, it burst into flames. I was able to safely exit the vehicle with my dog, but if traffic were any heavier, there would have been no safe way for me to get off the road and to a safe location
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and turning the steering wheel to the center position, the steering wheel independently turned to left, causing the vehicle to veer to the left. Additionally, the contact stated while attempting to make a right turn, the failure recurred, causing the vehicle to go to the opposite direction. The contact stated that she used physical force to manually turn the steering wheel to the right as the steering wheel was resistant. The steering warning light and the traction control warning light were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring, and the steering wheel was making abnormal clicking sounds while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it diagnosed that the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 96,150.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
