When driving to work, the engine just stop without any warning signs. I had to tow my car to the mechanic and he told me that my engine was seized. My oil change is up to date.

The break light don’t want to turn off Seat belts don’t latch
As i was getting off the interstate, my car literally shut off completely, no warning signs or anything, so my fiance thought it was the alternator, went to get a new alternator, & my car still didnt crank, got a new starter, my car still didnt crank. So i had to tow it to an independent service center and he determined that my motor had seized. Which was weird because i kept my car up. My safety was put at risk because i could have had a wreck getting off the highway with cars coming down a ramp.
Hello, I am the second owner of this car since 6+ years. I had given the car for fluid flush as part of regular service at a local Firestone. The technician was on a test drive after service and the engine hydrolocked. I have been without a car since last 5 days and no one seems to take the responsibility and help me with replacing the defective engine as it has major known issues with engine. Please review and help. Thank you. [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Brake light is stuck on
There was a complaint on your site that is exactly what happened to my car. While driving with foot on accelerator, acceleration/ current speed will randomly just stop. 1-1- Once i fully release the accelerator and then reengage the accelerator problem goes away. This is very random as to when it happens, and will happen multiple times in a row some times... and other times happens once and doesn't the rest of the trip. Safety is put at risk. There's only 38,000 miles on this vehicle. My mechanic can't find it because it's not doing it. The engine light doesn't come on and neither does a code. It does this on a freeway and the streets. This is extremely scary and dangerous.
The VIN number for this car is [XXX]. "Check engine" light was on and the car could not pass the inspection. We took the car to the mechanics and they found out " leak from fuel pump module" (please refer to the mechanics report for details) . Due to the safety concern, we have to fix it right away out of our own pocket. This particular VIN number is not included in the MHTSA ID: 18V934000. We are requesting this VIN number to be added in the recall ID 18V934000. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). UPDATE-06/01/2023- Consumer is checking status of VOQ.
The car quit on road going 40 mph. Won't restart.
Oil leak
I was driving my car at approximately 45 MPH when my car began smoking and overheating and making a knocking sound from the engine. I pulled over and checked but had coolant in the vehicle as I had just got my car serviced 3 weeks prior. I was about to get onto the highway when my car decelerated and the oil lamp and engine light started flickering as my car lost power and started smoking profusely.
I came to a stoplight and then tried to go forward and it got to about 20 miles an hour and this horrible knock happened and when I pushed on the gas it just whines I haven't had the money to get it somewhere to be looked at but I'm thinking it's the transmission but when it made that knocking sound it sounded like the whole engine fell out of it and I was in heavy traffic at the time.. you can drive it no problem up until you get 20 miles an hour and then it makes that horrible knocking sound
As stated by other owners the brake lights come on and off I have had the bulb replaced several times. I wiggle the blub it comes on and off. This is a danger to cars behind me as the brakes lights are not working properly I believe there should be a recall as many owners are having and have had the same issue with this problem. My sister has a Hyundai not a Sonata had the same issue but her type of Hyundai was recalled for fault wiring. The Sonatas should be recalled also.
Hyundai denied engine replacement after providing them with complete and full oil change history.
Engine suddenly shutdown while driving in the middle of the road. Luckily, I was not on the highway. Had it towed to my mechanic and he told me that there was a class action lawsuit on these engines and that they were known to fail after 100,000 miles. I never got any notification about this problem. I am checking with the Hyundai dealership about replacing the engine.
3 Months post oil change June 2022, oil plug fell out on highway and motor seized. Dealership advised motor no longer manufactured and recommended used motor supplier. Purchased a used motor with 80K on engine, had it installed in June of 2022. Dealership did oil change in December 2022, in February 2023 noticed oil smell and oil on the ground in driveway. Added 4.25 quarts of oil and started motor, attempted to locate the leak when noticed leak below motor. Turned off motor and found oil dripping from under car near the oil drain plug. Reached under car and touched oil drain plug with finger and plug fell out draining all oil to the ground. Had vehicle towed to the dealership, new oil change completed. Demanded the dealership install new oil drain plug, torque to manufacture specifications and apply lock tight to plug. Dealership stated they no longer remove the oil drain plug due to customer complaints and stated they only pump out the oil. When i asked them if that was a manufacture recommendation or their own they stated they started doing it due to multiple complaints from customers. Two engines 8 months apart, oil drain plug coming lose and falling out not a coincidence.
ENGINE FIRE “RECALL” -ENGINE FIRE / ALREADY HAD A FIRE INVESTIGATOR INSPECT MY VEHICLE - MY SAFETY WAS AT RISK , IM NOT HURT PHYSICALLY, BUT IM EMOTIONALLY TRAUMATIZED ,PTSD - THE PROBLEM WAS CONFIRMED BY HYUNDAI . VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY HYUNDAI’s INSPECTOR & MERCURY INSURANCE INSPECTOR. They said there was a leak in my engine which they had replaced the long block of my engine do to an engine recall . They replaced that in 2020. -NO WARNING LIGHTS On 01/03/23 I was at a stop light, I started to smell gas in my car , then I saw white smoke , i then looked at my gauges to see if there was any warning lights were on but there wasn’t . My heat temperature was normal . As I looked up I noticed black smoke started coming from my vehicle . I quickly shut off my car but that didn’t help stop the smoke . I literally got out of my vehicle rite before flames engulfed my vehicle . I immediately called 911 . & then contacted my insurance & Hyundai
The engine has stalled in middle of the road on several occasions. I have a had an independent service center confirm.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 129,476.
This model does not have an engine immobilizer and the rear windows are not connected to the alarm system. My car was stolen in the middle of the day and there are no viable security measures for my car. This is incredibly dangerous and quite frankly ludicrous that Hyundai has not recalled the cars to install the proper security measures. I now have out of pocket expenses related to this incident and am still exposed to future theft because Hyundai failed and is continuing to fail ts consumers.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the brake light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the failure had been draining the battery. The contact stated that the battery, the alternator, and the starter were replaced with the assistance of a friend. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.

Daughter was driving her car on interstate, doing 75, in the middle of traffic when the car would jerk and then loose power. The gas petal stopped working and the check engine light would come on. She had to make her way over to the shoulder, without causing an accident. Once car gets shut off and you wait a few minutes, you can start it and drive it home. This has happened about 4 times now. We are lucky that this hasn't caused an accident! This last time (yesterday), the check engine light stayed on and we were able to hook up the dianostic reader and it read the code for the crankshaft positioning sensor A circut. It says online that this is a common problem with that car and is very dangerous. How is this not up for a recall? My daughter is scared to drive her car.
My check engine light came on when I took my car to certified collision they ran a diagnostic and it came up as the timing in the engine is off. I looked up that there was recalls on 2011 to 2014 on this same problem.
Steering wheel has a clicking clunking sound when turning right and left a mechanic told me it is the yolk in the sterring problem and he was sure there was a recall about this
I recently purchased a Hyundai Sonata hybrid with 132K miles on it and it has been driving fine for at least two weeks until a few days back the car has been displaying a recurring alarm on the dashboard telling " hybrid system warming! Safely Stop and Do Not Drive " now as soon as I turn on the vehicle the alarm comes on immediately. It's been a week since the car is technically inoperable because if I attempt to drive the car it makes this horrible grinding sound which is terrifying considering if I drive like this it would probably cause more damage to the car, and I have look for information on this issue and have found many of these cases over the years that I can relate to but unfortunately there's no a recall of this problem. I'm taking the car to the dealership soon but I don't have any hopes that they will find a permanent fix for this since nobody has apparently. I'm just trying find some help with this issue. So far I just have lots of regrets about this purchase and just hoping I can find some help with this matter.
We have had issues with the tail lights of the car not working properly. The lights have had issues with the daytime running lights not working or the brake lights not working. When we took it in they said that there was an issue with the wiring harness. I also noticed 4 separate hyundai sonata vehicles with they same body style in the last 2 days that appeared to be having the same issues. I think it is something to be checked out to see if there is an issue there because it is a major safety concern.
Our 2012 Hyundai Sonata Limited had some kind of seat belt recall done in 2017. Not sure what as we were not given any documentation. We are having problems engaging the Driver's seat belt that started in the last month of 2022. Hyundai keeps referring us to the local dealer to see if indeed it is part of that recall. The local dealer insists on charging $160.00 inspection fee, if it's covered Hyundai will be charged. A knowledgeable mechanic should be able to sit in the driver's seat and attempt to buckle the belt and know if it is covered, without charging $160.00. Pease help.
This seems to be more amplified occurrences when it is cold. 2- Safety is put at risk. 3- Not gone to dealer yet. 4- No inspection yet. 5- No warning messages.
Driver's seat belt takes 3 to 5 times for it to engage. A recall was done for the front driver's seat seatbelt. Campaign recall was done in December 2017 at Chapman Hyundai Phoenix.
When I start the vehicle in the morning I leave the neighborhood going around 15mph and the car loses power. I have to let off the gas completely then reapply but it still continues to studder. I applied the slapstick sift mode and noticed it does this in first and fourth gear. In automatic you can’t see it
Gasoline engine. yes, it is available. This vehicle has broken down and left me stranded at the side of the road more than a few times. It has failed on the Interstates , as well as local highways. The dealer refuses to replace the faulty engine. No warning lights have come on with regard to the gasoline engine. Ever since I purchased the vehicle, it sounds like there are marbles in the gas engine when its running at low rpm. The oil leaks are extreme and getting worse. It is smoking badly. I just do not have any more money to pour into this vehicle. I want a new engine from Hyundai.
The lighting system on the front and back lights, tail lights and brake lights are shortaged and melts the housings thst the bulbs go in. I have had two of these cars with the same identical problems and my son has had two sonatas and I have more people that’s having the issue as well. It’s very dangerous because the tail lights work whenever and me as the driver can’t see behind me nor the person driving behind me will know that I’m stopping. I can’t drive my vehicles at all at this present time and has made s appointment with the company, Hyundai and filed a complaint as well. Something has to be done quickly to put this on the recall list because it’s very dangerous for myself and others on the national highways
My car started on fire while being stopped at a signal light
My tail and brake lights sometimes work sometimes doesn't. Rear window brake light stays illuminated when car is turned off causing battery to drain. This problem has been on going for years. I can sometimes wiggle bulbs and make them work for a while but problem has been persistent for too many years. Tired of replacing bulbs.
Vehicle doesn’t stop hard pedal and brake light came on 144k
Driving on freeway and traction control light came on and stays on. Then my car stalls. Additionally, I awakened at 6 am to find my breaks light had been on most the night at no fault of mine. I checked my vin# and being told my 2012 sonata is not part of the recall campaign 136. This is a danger to my life and Hyundai is refusing to correct the problem at their cost.
Dash board has been completely cracked. I’m scared the airbags are effected by it or will deploy unexpectedly there are other people with the same issue. There has been no damage or accidents with this vehicle
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power without warning. The vehicle was towed to the resident and then to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The independent mechanic stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V568000 (Engine). The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unavailable.
Break lights don’t go off.
Power steering loses power and window between speedometer and tach goes blank. Car keeps running but no power steering and cannot take out of park. Must restart the car to solve issue. Happened several times while at idle, in park. Happened once while in drive, at idle while stopped, and was able to drive forward when I discovered no power steering. Concerned it could happen while driving.
Excessive oil consumption. No oil leaks. Car has been using oil for quite some time, but now I need to add over a quart a month to keep the oil level in the recommended range.
Driving on a freeway when check brake warning appeared. Car speed dropped down to drastically. Alarm was chirping and brakes made a bad grinding noise
Engine had a Rod knock failure out of Nowhere, Vechile went into limp mound with a very clear & loud knocking noise. Engine blew up entirely shortly afterwards.
B pillar separated from the frame during collision causing catastrophic intrusion into the cabin upon impact leading to death of the driver. No other occupants in the vehicle. Multiple investigators noted the B pillar failure upon inspection. Independent, certified crash reconstruction expert also noticed immediately that the B pillar had failed which caused cabin intrusion to an extraordinary degree considering the 2 vehicles involved were going less than 40mph. Vehicle is available for inspection. In addition, edr data reveals that although throttle was engaged, rpm's remained at idle up to the time of impact. Driver pushing on the gas and vehicle not responding.
There is a recall of our 2012 Hyundai Sonata but Hyundai never informed us of the recall. https://autoservice.hyundaiusa.com/Campaign132/sitecontents/English/CustomerLetters/site_97_page_1530_customerLetter1.pdf#pdfjs.action=download Our car qualifies for the recall but Hyundai does not want to do anything about it. Our car experienced engine knocking and we took it to an independent repair shop. The repair shop informed us about the recall but Hyundai never did. The recall is because there is a defect in the engine in which friction caused by metal bits burned up the oil. The low level of oil causes the knocking. The repair shop filled our car engine with oil. We took the car to a Hyundai dealership but they refuse to do the repairs unless the engine is knocking even though the recall letter admits there is a potential safety issue if the engine is not replaced.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal failed to return to the normal upright position. The contact stated that the taillights remained illuminated as if the brake pedal was still depressed. The contact stated that the stabili-trak warning light illuminated intermittently. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V759000 (Exterior Lighting). The failure mileage was approximately 147,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Received a warning message saying pull over safely do not drive this vehicle in the middle of the road as I'm driving all the warning lights on the dash came on . The car jerked Then the car died
The car starts alarming out of nowhere while driving at 70 mph on the interstate and the Hybrid System Warning - Safely Stop and Do Not Drive along with the wrench, battery light and engine light all appearing on the dashboard to pull over and do not drive when this occurred I lost total control of the vehicle. The brake peddle goes all the way to the floor enabling me to stop and I lost the ability to steer the vehicle as the power steering went out as well while this was happening. I almost got killed as I was on the highway driving at 70 mph. I immediately put on my hazards lights to signal to other drivers that I was having mechanical problems. Thank GOD I was able to pull over without anyone hitting me from behind. I have had major major issues with this car since I purchased it the engine seized up on me in the same manner back in 2020 and the engine was replaced. Then there was an issue with the transmission and that was also replaced. Then the brake booster also failed and had to be replaced as well. Hyundai aught to be ashamed of the production of this vehicle as it is truly a severe risk to the lives of the consumers not just the person who is driving this vehicle but also to those who may be behind someone driving as this could cause a major accident and people could be killed. These cars need to be recalled and they need to get down to what is causing these issues in order to fix the problem. I pray that you all make Hyundai do a recall on this vehicle as I have g
Hyundai recall 198 was received after my engine was replaced. I started the reimbursement process with Hyundai 05/28/2021 at www.HyundaiUSA.com/Campaign198. On 11/15/2021 my reimbursement request was denied. I never received any notification about this. I only found out in early December 2021 when I checked the above website. After several subsequent communications with Hyundai, the claim was reinstated. Eventually, my claim was approved in April 2022. Per an email dated 04/12/2022, the claim was supposedly submitted for payment. I had my vehicle inspected at a Hyundai Dealer per their 03/08/2022 email. On 06/08/2022, Hyundai then requested proof of payment. I did make a partial payment of $2128.65 on 03/25/2020. Proof provided. I can't obtain any further proof of payment because I since had closed this account. Recently I requested help from the Minnesota Attorney Generals office. Hyundai responded on 10/10/2022. They won't make any payment without payment proof. I've tried doing everything Hyundai has requested yet is is never enough. I provided the repair invoice. I provided proof of inspections at a Hyundai dealer. PLEASE HELP ME. I've been dealing with this for a year and 9 months. I have endured so so much during this process. I wonder how many other Hyundai owners have been put through the hell I've had to deal with. I just want to be paid and put this horrific mater behind me once and for all. PS: This replacement engine failed me again on 05/19/2022. Hyundai has basi

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
