It first started when the engine needed to be replaced, I spent thousands trying to get it repaired, soon after they fixed the engine everything started going wrong ( I truly think they put in a faulty or wrong engine @ Hyundai) the car was overheating, I would take it in they would say it’s one thing pay thousands and it wasn’t it, changed the coolant that goes into the cabin, there’s always been a chemical smell since…still overheats, they said maybe it’s the thermostat, spent more money still didn’t fix it, the battery now won’t stay charged(trunk battery) not sure if they hooked it up wrong…the seatbelt hasn’t worked in years, I take it in they say it’s fine, it never clicks, I have to click it in to the passenger seat for safety. They always say it’s fine! I will never ever buy another Hyundai in life due to all of the issues I’ve experienced with mainly Hyundai dealership service mechanics and dealerships, I’m now dealing with a faulty car that could still be a great car if they didn’t mess it up, I thought I was doing right by always only taking my car to Hyundai and goodness I was wrong! There are no “recalls” currently on my car but honestly, did they even do the recalls correctly?! I disagree! They have literally lied, drained my wallet and disappointed me all while making my car worse, it’s like dr’s take these meds that might fix the issue but it’s going to mess up something else, it’s a guessing game all while killing you or in this case my car!!! I don’t know da

On [XXX] while driving approximately 1.5 hours away from home, a warning message appeared on my dashboard stating: “Hybrid System Warning. Stop and Do Not Drive.” I immediately pulled over and contacted my insurance company, who arranged for the vehicle to be towed to the nearest authorized Hyundai dealership (Thomas Hyundai in Cumberland). The warning clearly indicated that it was not safe to continue driving. Later, I found out that the issue reported (recall 198) have presented cases ending with fire of the engine. It is critical to mention that in January 2025, I attended the official manufacturer recall for this vehicle, which was supposed to ensure safety and reliability. Despite this, the vehicle failed and left me stranded in an unsafe area. Since then, I have been without my vehicle for over three weeks. I contacted Hyundai customer care and opened a case. I was repeatedly told a case manager would call me within three business days, but I never received any follow-up until I insisted. I was eventually assigned a case manager named Snowy, and also remained in contact with the dealership. On several occasions, both Snowy and the dealership assured me that the vehicle would be ready by Thursday, July 10 and that It was not until then that I could start to request a reimbursement for my rental expenses. I repeatedly asked for confirmation because I am renting a car at my own expense in order to go to work and manage my life. However, on Thursday, July 10, I called again

I drive a 2012 Hyundai Sonata Limited. After a recent fill-up, I began experiencing delayed acceleration, engine hesitation, and what appears to be misfiring—especially at low throttle. Most notably, the brake lights stay illuminated even when the car is turned off, which drains the battery and poses a major safety hazard. I scanned the vehicle with an OBD-II scanner and received code P0504, which points to a brake light switch malfunction. I also noticed that pressing the start button with my foot off the brake still starts the engine instead of going into accessory mode—confirming abnormal brake signal behavior. I replaced the brake light switch, which temporarily fixed the issue, but the symptoms returned within a day. After researching, I found there was a recall (NHTSA 15V759000) for a nearly identical issue involving the brake light switch and stopper pad. However, my VIN is not listed, even though I am experiencing the same safety-critical symptoms. This issue poses a significant safety risk on the road, and I believe my vehicle should be included in the affected population of the recall or issued a Technical Service Bulletin extension.

While driving on the highway with my two minor children, my vehicle suddenly shut off without warning. I lost power in the middle of traffic, which was extremely dangerous — we were nearly rear-ended and had to coast to the shoulder. The check engine light had been on for some time prior to the incident, but there were no other warning messages. After being towed, the car would not start again, even after attempting to jump-start it. A mechanic inspected it and believes the engine is seized. I later discovered that my 2012 Sonata is equipped with the Theta II engine, which is known for sudden failure due to oil starvation or bearing wear. Although there are no current recalls on my VIN, the symptoms are consistent with the known Theta II engine defect. This situation put me and my children at serious risk, and I believe this failure needs to be addressed as a safety issue.

We received a recall letter for 198 and 251. We called and made the appointment for September 9, 2024. We took the car at Five Star Hyundai of Macon. 3010 Riverside DR. Macon, GA 31210. Phone: (478) 309-8308. We called in October to check on our vehicle status, so they are still working on it. We called back again because they didn't communicate well with customers and told us the car was ready. We went to the dealership to pick the car and when we got in the car to leave, without doing anything, the brake light came on and didn't move. We were never able to go because of this. The mechanic came and took the car and said let me check. He took the car for a short ride and said we need it to keep it. Then, they called tell us that the car needed a brake module and that would cost us 6700 dollars. I said that is unacceptable because the car worked fine when we took it to you for a free recall. They reduced the price to 3000 dollars and our car is still with them. We want our car fixed and running but this is not the way it should have to be. Our car is still in Macon at 5- star Hyundai. Few more days and we will 5 months without car. They never provide another vehicle. This has put us on a hardship because my husband goes to work early, then comeback and pick me up and take me to work then, he has to picked me up too. We have called the corporate office and have received a case number. The only communication that exists is between the corporate offices of Hyundai and us. The dea

I’ve been having issues with my Gas Gauge not recognizing how much gas I have in my car. I can fill my tank up, and the gas light constantly stays on. I’ve been looking online and came across other Hyundai owners having the same problem. I also have been having what seems to be an electrical issue where my passenger door, does not open and it’s intermittent which also seems to be connected to why my car ceiling light won’t turn on all the time. Lastly, I have to constantly change the head light bulbs and the break light bulb. I’ve owned my car for 3 1/2 years now, and I shouldn’t have to keep having to put money into it when it seems to be a known issue.

Car went complete stall after a warning light came off “Hybrid System Warning - Check Brakes” I am completely braked, but when I slowly releasing the brake pedal, there’s was a loud grinding noice and the wheels wouldn’t go forward at all, so I have to step on the brake again . I got stuck IN THE MIDDLE of the road and couldn’t park on the right curb since the car randomly got stalled completely. It took almost 40mins for the warning issue to go away and the car went back to normal. However, IT’S COMPLETELY A SAFETY ISSUE for the car to randomly stall in the middle of driving! I could be driving to fast traffic on a freeway or wide street where accidents can occur since I couldn’t even drive it a bit to park on the curb. On top of this - I occasionally get “hybrid system warning” whenever I am in the middle of driving and I always have to pull over and wait at least half an hour for it to go away, it’s been happening for few years now, and tonight was the most dangerous one so far!!! Please make Hyundai do a recall on the hybrid battery diagnose or replacement

In October of 2023, I was driving my 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid to the laundry mat about a quarter of a mile from my home. I stopped at a stop light and all of a sudden, a warning sound burst from my dasher board. The message stated, "Hybrid Warning-DO NOT DRIVE: CHECK BRAKES". The brakes completely stopped working, the pedal was to the floor and the accelerator was stalling. After managing to get the vehicle back to my home, naturally I went to the Dealership (Langdale Hyundai of Valdosta) and informed them of the issue. They informed me there was no issue, charged me for a diagnostic and sent me on my way. Once I provided proof of my car stopping mid-drive, they began to check wiring and such. What they told me the issue was is a Hydraulic Power Unit. I had it replaced, still the same issue "CHECK BRAKES". I only have 116k miles on this car, bought it with 72K in 2021, so I haven't driven it much. It spent 8 months in Hyundai Dealership in Holiday, FL for a brand-new Hybrid Battery in 2022. I have been looking online for anyone that knows more about this issue so I can get it resolved. It turns out there are thousands of people who are just like me. I believe this is indeed a recall issue. I believe this is an issue is an emergency issue, brakes giving out while driving is an issue that needs to be addressed. This has been happening for years, and Hyundai has not done one thing on it. It's happening with newer vehicles as well as older. Langdale Hyundai of Valdosta was not

The steering wheel also began to stick soon after the diagnosis. The dealer was notified of the failure; however, the dealer could not provide an appointment until months out. My daughter had her car towed to the Hyundai dealership because of engine failure. Upon inspection we learned that there was a recall on the engine. We had to wait a few weeks so that the dealership could get approval and authorization to replace the engine. Finally after 3 or so weeks we got a courtesy car to drive. After about 4 weeks our car was finally ready to pick up so we took the courtesy car back and picked up our car. After about 4 months or so maybe my daughter went to her friends house one afternoon and her and her friend left in the friends car. They had been gone maybe 10 minutes or so and her friends neighbor called her friend and said that her car was on fire and they had already called the fire department but the car was engulfed in flames and before the fire department could get to it the whole car burnt to the ground. Nothing left but the shell of the car. The fire marshal said that the source of the fire was under the hood. Thats where the fire ignited he said. Luckily no one was injured or hurt. But this is after I had the recall motor put in. It was super scary and very upsetting because no one seems like they want to help us either.

The driver side seat belt wont click and stay in almost half the time i drive my car… after reading other complaints its looking like this is a common thing. Within the past year ive noticed lots of times that when im going to lock my car with my fob, it wont lock and its because the passenger side lock button on the inside of door is in a stuck between lock/unlock position… resulting in me having to lean over to manually unlock the door even when I’ve unlocked my car with both the fob and inside button… all the sudden i noticed too that my speed control will not work at all and be completely unresponsive most times. It will RANDOMLY work when i try checking it on highway. ive had SO many issues with my taillights going/burning out constantly and now my headlights have gotten really dim. Im scared to drive at night now. They are much more dimmer than a cars should look like usually. Within the past week i just noticed a random big crack in the dashboard on the passenger side as well… noticed that seems to be a common thing and concern of safety with lots of others who own and drive this same vehicle… my first thought was “what if this crack will effect the airbag and make it deploy?” The crack is literally right over and above where the airbag is… plan on trying to take my car to place on OKC that did the anti-theft system software update on my car… but my car has gotten so bad when driving ill be lucky if it makes it there in one piece. I believe this is the same issue as the Hyundai recall #170 (activation of the engine management system's brake pedal override feature). While pressing the accelerator, my car will stop accelerating until I let off the gas pedal and then press it again. This is an intermittent issue and unrelated to any fuel delivery system. I confirmed it was a brake pedal issue because my brake lights would not turn off and I could shift out of Park WITHOUT my foot being on the brake pedal. I feel like this could be a pretty big issue for properly signally drivers behind me as well as when I’m trying to drive in heavy or speedy traffic, e.g., merging onto or within interstate traffic.

When driving (at any speed) car error message comes up that says "Hybryd system warning safely stop and do not drive" then when that light goes out a new warning comes up that says "check brake" at this time the car will slow itself down until the car stops completely - even if you have your foot all the way on the gas pedal. There's no pattern to when it happens, it can happen on any drive at any time. When this happens all I can do is turn the car off and wait to restart car to keep driving. The front brakes have replaced, the back brakes and rotors have been replaced and the brake pump was replaced but, the problem persists. Primarily this is a safety issue if I'm on the highway, or anywhere I can't really pull over. A perfect example of this is on 8/31/2024 my son received a warning citation for "Improper Stopping" the remarks on the citation say " was parked on side of roadway due to car not wanting to accelerate but, could not move outside of the roadway". Basically the car slowed down but, completely shut down in an area that wasn't safe to be parked or sitting. It's dangerous for me and any other driver on the road that's behind me or on either side of me. After researching online it seems this is a common issue that Hyundai has not figured out yet. Other consumers have spent thousands on repairs thru Hyundai and still have not resolved the issue. Please help me figure this out.
