Brake light housing has melted and deformed so that the bulb is stuck in the tail light assembly and cannot be changed. Without working brake lights the car is unsafe to be driven on the road. I’m assuming there is an electrical problem that caused the lights to overheat and melt the housing. This is a common complaint with this make and model based on my research. The socket also does not lock into the assembly due to the deformed housing. My daughter is the owner of the vehicle and made me aware of the issue today.

I have had replaced my taillight bulbs 8 times in the last year. They keep blowing out and getting so hot they melt the taillight assembly. I replaced the whole assembly a couple months ago and it is already melted so bad the light bulb will not fit properly or stay in place. This is a fire hazard and also a safety hazard as my taillights quit working at anytime.

My engine was replaced under warranty due to the major Theta engine recall, after 20k miles on the new engine its failing too, burning oil, smoking, making loud valve train noise on acceleration, and at time operates very sluggishly and strangely no engine codes ,almost like my engine code system was programmed to ignore these issues. My new replaced engine seems to be failing again and they don't care. I'm afraid this car will catastrophically fail or catch fire like I've been reading about.. Because its past the 12k warranty they are declining to fix,12k warranty REALLY ???!! Here's my concern, I am hearing many many ,many stories from others and even the dealer people that Hyundai is replacing the recall engines with BAD faulty engines, some I've heard have received 3 engines. My dealer lied to me saying it was a PCV ,the PCV valve was replaced and my engine is still failing like the first engine. Please help, Hyundai is basically getting away with ignoring the recall settlement by replacing the engines with still known faulty engines !

I was accelerating from a county road onto a state road, and the engine quit. The dash board displayed a bunch of tiny colored symbols of which I hadn't seen before. I coasted and pulled into an Elementary School parking lot and braked to a stop. I attempted to restart but got nothing. I smelled something and got out and opened the hood. The bottom end of the motor was on fire! I flagged down a lady and described my situation. She was the principal and went to get a matinance man with a extinguisher. Soon, two guys with water bottles stopped and extinguisher the flames. The principal and matinance man arrived and the guys pushed my Sonata into a parking spot. The principal (nice lady) gave me a ride home. I bought it used, no warranty, from a used car lot. I still owe a lot on it. Up until that point, I liked the car as so did my friends. Having full coverage insurance on it, I'm waiting to see what Allstate is going to do. This happened this past Friday , first week of April in the evening.

Smell of fuel & starting issues. The car has been taken to the dealer multiple times regarding gas fumes and they could not find anything. And it is currently at a mechanic shop to for same reason. When you start the car it doesnt take long before the whole car smells like gas & the smell is so strong it is suffocating. The car is health & fire risk. Also the car sometimes doesnt want to start for days but the starter, battery, alternator all work & even the mechanic doesnt know whats wrong with it. Apperantly there is no recall & if you search online there are alot of people with same cars complaining about gas smell & starting issues..

The car suddenly stopped idling while driving at around 40-45 mph and everything seemed normal until it would not drive but the car was on and then the steering was difficult to pull over to a safe area and the brakes were hard to brake and stop but when it came to a full stop the vehicle dash warning lights were flickering and shut off. When I tried to attempt and start the vehicle it would not start but everything turns on ike normal al the lights except the engine was not on. Also it started smelling like some sort of electrical components were burning or something but I couldn't see any smoke or anything coming from the engine area but it seemed like electrical burn somewhere in the car. The vehicle is very unsafe to drive since there was no kind of warning lights or sounds and just stopped working while driving. The vehicle is well maintained and up to date with maintenance services. It became inoperable and had to be towed home since I ended up stuck in a unsafe spot in the middle of a busy street and waited hours for someone to tow it back to my house because it was already about 1 or 2 in the morning. The next day had hired a mechanic to come and do the diagnostics and repairs and still doesn't start or drive and I had to hire another mechanic to diagnose the problem again and was told that the motor is seized and I would need a new engine and other work done on it as well and so me and my family are stuck without a car which is our only car and no more money to fix t

My husband was accelerating onto a highway and the engine failed. He was able to pull to the shoulder and brake to a stop. He was not able to start the car. He had the car towed to our mechanic and the mechanic reported that the engine seized, the engine had oil in it, and we needed to bring the car to the dealer to have it looked at. There were no lights, sounds, or warnings that there was a problem with the engine. This is the second engine failure for this car. The first failure was a fire and the engine was replaced. The dealer stated that it would take 3 weeks before they could look at the car. We brought it in 3 weeks later, 12/19/22. No-one has looked at the car. We don't know what the problem is, because they still have not looked at it.

My engine has failed, and my steering wheel column has locked. I had the software update on my engine with Napleton that qualified me for a lifetime engine replacement. I submitted maintenance records for my car and pictures of my valvetrain that are well maintained, and hyundai denied my engine claim for exceptional maintenance neglect on Dec8. On December 14th, after reviewing my oil changes, they still denied me for using low quality oil that's obscured. The problem I am having with my car is oil, not being able to get to the pistons inside my engine. It's not fair when the company know they engines have a manufacture defect. Then they blame the customers for lack of maintenance to have an excuse not to replace the engine. Knowing that with or without oil changes in the hyundai sonata 2011 -2012 models the engines will eventually seize anyway.I've reached out to their company over 300 times trying to resolve this matter and I'm still in the same place I started at a month ago. When Driving the Alarms go off indicating a brake issue, my brake peddle goes to the the floor, car looses power and slows down to 5 MPH. Car will not accelerate past 5 MPH when i am trying to pull over or get off the freeway. Brakes are grinding as i try to use them, very dangerous while on the freeway. When I am able to pull over. I will turn off the car and turn it back on and the issue goes away. Now this may happen several more times before i am able to get some where safe. Dealership has no clue why its doing this after showing the video of the Alarms and describing it. No codes are found either. They just want to start replacing parts stating at 3k a round hoping it will fix the issue. This issue doesn't happen every day but it does happen while driving on the freeway. I have read online others having the same safety issue while driving and having thes same brake failures. Not sure where Hyundai is at with this issue and the fix for it? Yet does someone have to be in a serious accident before someone takes action with this issue?

In May 2022 the engine was recalled and replaced by Schomp Hyundai located at 100 Havan St, Aurora, CO 80010, and I purchased this car right after the engine recall. Since I bought the car vehicle the engine has been making noise and the AC and heater smell gas and burned fuel inside the vehicle through cabin air vents. I took the car to the Schomp Hyundai and asked them to fix the noise problem as the engine is not properly installed but they refused to fix it and asked me to pay $180 to diagnose the problem and to pay additional for the fix. The second time when I took the car for the gas and fuel fume and I was told that it is not part of the engine warranty; I have to pay $180 to diagnose the problem and pay additional for the fix. As the engine was replaced, the service may have resulted in damage to the high-pressure fuel pipe. While maneuvering the engine into place, the fuel pipe may have been crushed, poorly torqued, or simply not aligned properly. The dealer is not accepting any responsibility.

When driving randomly the cars engine will rev really high while pressing the gas pedal but the car doesn't move. After a little while the car eventually makes a loud clunking noise which shakes the car and typically causes the tires to spin. It seems to happen when the car is trying to decide whether to switch the gas engine or back to EV mode. This has been happening for a long time an even after the engine was replace under the recall. This is a safety issue that causes major concerns for myself an passengers. Also it happen when turning onto highways or exits which at high speeds there is a high likelihood of causing an accident. I have reported this to Hyundai several times but they cannot figure out the cause but rather keep trying different things an charging me. the car also seems to burn oil fast which doesn't make any sense being that its a newly installed engine.

I have had to replace my brake lights, sometimes, every few months. My third brake light only works intermittently. Recently, my brake lights and my door lights failed to shut off after I turned the engine off. Also, my abs light came on on the dash, but after turning the engine off and back on, that light went out. After re-starting my car and repeatedly, stepping on the brake, my lights finally shut off. I checked the internet for similar problems and found out that there had been a Hyundai recall for this issue. I phoned Hyundai customer support. They told me the recall had been repaired on my car by the dealer . Obviously, it had not. (The dealer also claimed to have corrected another recall regarding seat belts, but that too is a lie, since my seat belt dash light is on although I have never been involved in an accident) I believe that the dealer billed Hyundai, but failed to either deliberately or inadvertently failed to perform the recall work. The recall involved replacing the brake stopper pad which engages the brake light switch. Obviously, Hyundai considered this a safety issue since the brake lights are always on, so the driver behind my car never knows what I'm doing. This has also affected the interior overhead light which only intermittently goes off when I close the door, so I have to keep the light in the off position.

The vehicle dash and center console lights flicker and/or dim between bright and dim lights while the headlights temporarily turn off at random intervals while driving. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This safety issue can impair nighttime driving visibility which can result in an accident, distracted driving to the primary vehicle driver and other motorists, and false driving signals to other drivers.
