This vehicle has had regular oil changes and at 73000 miles the oil light came on. The oil had been changed recently, and it was only 1000 miles after that change so it should NOT have been out of oil. When checked, it was down 3.5 quarts. Added oil, and made an appointment to have it checked. Learned of oil consumption issue, and of a recall issued for up to 2017 with this engine but nothing for 2018. Dealership began an oil consumption test and vehicle was brought in at intervals to check consumption, which was excessively high at 2. to 2.5 quarts for 1000 miles. Continued the oil consumption testing, then moved on to an engine cleaning with a Valvoline product through the dealership and HPP as a recommended "fix" despite this engine being recalled in earlier years. After that cleaning the car stalled twice at stoplights, and if you sit long enough at a stop sign or light the engine feels as if it wants to cut out. The car shakes and sometimes makes a noise as it does this. Brought it to the dealer after 500 miles and it was down a half quart, and they told me that was not enough and to drive it more. They topped off the oil, and after 2000 miles the oil light came on every single time I turned left, and when checked it was down 4 quarts. Brought it back to the dealership and they said that is definitely problematic, started the process of going through HPP and are currently dropping the oil pan to check for metal shavings, etc. Car now has 88000 miles and is consuming oil

My vehicle is burning oil excessively. I have measured this precisely. I have had to add oil five times since July 25, 2021 and it is not February 5, 2022. Each time the consumption got worse. The consumption as been 2076, 1732, 1271, 1120, and 1000 miles per quart. I am afraid that my engine will eventually fail while I am driving possibly stopping the vehicle in the middle of the freeway, creating a hazard for myself and others. This could result in a serious accident. I have found on the internet that many other persons are experiencing the same exact issue. Please force Hyundai to recall the engines that are failing and replace them with engines that do not fail. Since July the vehicle has been driven 6286 miles and currently has only 49990 miles.

The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, an abnormal knocking noise would emit from the vehicle as the check engine light had illuminated on the instrument panel. One day as the contact was driving 70 MPH, the vehicle began shaking as the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who discovered that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The contact's friend attempted to replace the spark plugs; however, he discovered oil on the spark plugs and informed the contact it was a major concern. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was given a claim number and referred to a dealer for assistance. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it remained in their possession for a month. The manufacturer later denied his claim and he was given an estimate for the repair. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.

There appears to be a problem with the intake manifold. Car is throwing a code of P200A. The baffles get stuck causing the car to lose power, usually 3 times in a row. I nearly got rear ended twice because of this and it threw my husband an myself toward the window.

Purchased a new car from Plaza Hyundai dealership in Brooklyn NY 5/25/2019, had problems a year later but due to covid, dealership wasn't open. Called Hyundai Consumer affairs May 2020 as I also found out there was an open recall that was supposed to be done with the ecm & cluster update-engine monitoring logic product improvement for Santa Fes from 2011-2019. There was and still is an open recall listed from 08/09/2018 that the car was still at Plaza Hyundai dealership for. In 2020, I was told that a buyback wasn't possible due to there not being any record of active recalls. On September 22, 2021, our car broke down on the highway, with it being the engine issue that is currently on recall. We have an unusable car still being paid for, a car that shouldn't have been sold to us because it was on recall, a car that should've been buyback but wasn't due to greed, and no answers as Hyundai is saying that the buyback period has ended since the first use was February 2018, even though we became owners of the car 5/25/2019. The component that failed was the engine. Its currently in Plaza Hyundai's service lot. Our safety was put at risk not once but twice, but the most recent being 9/21/2021, we were on a major highway at 70mph when the engine started to slow down, smoke, and vibrate violently. The vehicle is currently being serviced for parts, but they don't think its the engine. There were previous issues but I would have to recollect on the memory of when.

Early 2020, I had multiple reports that my driver side brake light was not functioning properly/off when I brake. I replaced the brake light bulb in summer 2020. Not long thereafter, I heard the same complaint from other drivers who noticed and were able to notify me while at a stop. I had it checked at a local oil change shop and they found nothing wrong. This year, I was told at separate times that it was not turning on. A couple of days ago, I had someone I knew report that the night brake lights function but when I brake, the driver side light is off. It could be an internal wiring issue or something else I can't reach. Either way, it is a brand new car I bought and should not experience issues this early. The earliest they can get my car into the dealership service department is November 16, 2021.

On 9/22/21, was driving on a major highway when gears started spinning loudly, acceleration went down to 30mph from 65mph, car started vibrating and smoke coming from the exhaust. Made it safely to the next exit without incident by a prayer and slowly made our way to a Hyundai dealer at 5-10mph, any faster would shut down the car. We barely made it and tow truck came and towed it to original dealer that sold it to us. Previously we told them about the recall update but it went on deaf ears from the dealer and Hyundai. Now we don't have a car, and most likely needs a new engine.

The Pearl White paint is chipping from the hood of my 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The issue is getting worse, with new chipped spots appearing monthly. This should not be an issue with a vehicle that is garage kept and barely 3 years old. This is due to poor paint quality and Hyundai should assume responsibility for correcting this painting defect. This issue is rampant across the country and significantly impacts a consumer's resale value.

First my car started consuming and alarming amont of oil at 40000 to 50000 miles in 2020. I have been put through 3 oil consumption test and every 1,000 miles i took it in it was consuming more oil. One time it had lost 4 quart of oil in 1,000 miles with no oil leaks detected. They never did anything about it. Early 2021 While i was on the highway in traffic going 70 miles per hour. Mile car started to sputter and slowed down to 30 miles per hour in the middle of the highway at night. I was so afraid that i would be hit. Another time it slowed down on the highway 1 day after i got an oil change and i was out of town on a sunday. The car was struggling to get up a highway hill at 25 miles an hour with other cars going well over the 70 mile speed limt. I was terrified. The dealer finally admitted that the engin is bad but Hyundai will not replace it. Help please!!!!!

PURCHASED VEHICLE IN JUNE 2018 AND NOTICED A PROBLEM WITH HEADLIGHTS, SHADOW ON ROADWAY WHEN DRIVING. I NOTICED IN HOUSING THAT THERE WERE FINGER PRINTS ON LENSES AND TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER FOR REMEDY...THEY REPLACED HEADLIGHT ON DRIVER'S SIDE. DID NOT THINK ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT IT UNTIL I DROVE THE VEHICLE DURING DARKNESS. SHADOWS WERE OBSERVED ON SIDE OF ROAD THAT COULD AND DID HIDE BIKERS/WALKERS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROADWAY. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION OF THE LIGHTS WHILE PARKED, I NOTICED THAT THESE SHADOWS WERE ALSO OBSERVED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. PASSENGERS IN VEHICLE ALSO NOTICED HEADLIGHT PROBLEMS ON BOTH SIDES OF VEHICLE. I CONTACTED DEALER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS MADE THAT WAY DURING MANUFACTURING. AS TIME PASSED, ANYTIME THAT I TOOK VEHICLE OUT DURING NIGHT TIME HOURS, WHETHER ON THE HIGHWAY, INTERSTATE, OR COUNTRY ROAD, THESE DARK SPOTS WERE ALWAYS VISIBLE AND CONTINUE TO PREVENT ME AS A DRIVER FROM SEEING THE ROADWAY IN ITS ENTIRETY. A PHOTO IS ATTACHED THAT WAS TAKEN TODAY, BUT THE PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED AND HAVE MET WITH NO SOLUTION BEING OFFERED BY THE DEALER OR MANUFACTURER. I DECIDED TO FILE A FORMAL COMPLAINT ON THIS ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE'S LIGHTING PROBLEMS.

THE COMPLAINT IS IN REGARDS THE ACCELERATION FROM EITHER A ROLLING SLOW OR FROM A STOP TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC OR OPEN LANE NEXT TO YOU ON THE FREEWAY. WHEN YOU NEED ACCELERATE I'M GETTING A SEVERE LAG OR NORESPONSE FROM THE ACCELERATOR. IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS I'VE HAD TWO OCCASIONS WHERE I NEEDED SOME QUICK ACCELERATION IN ORDER TO AVOID A BAD SITUATION AND THE CAR JUST BASICALLY DIDN'T ACCELERATE CAUSING THE OTHER DRIVERS TO HAVE TO BRAKE IN ORDER TO AVOID A NEAR COLLISION. I'VE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS ISSUE WITH THIS CAR NOW SINCE I PURCHASED IT. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAD ONE OF THE SERVICE TECHS DRIVE WITH ME SAID WELL IT WAS IN THE ECO-MODE SO YOU CAN EXPECT THAT BUT I'M HERE TO TELL YOU THAT IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT WHEN YOU PUSH ON ACCELERATOR THE CAR DANGEROUSLY HESITATES AND IS GOING TO GET SOMEBODY BADLY INJURED. SO TODAY IT HAPPENED TO ME AGAIN ON NORTHBOUND I-5 IN TACOMA, WA, I WAS TRYING TO GET INTO ANOTHER LANE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC I HAD ACCELERATE QUICKLY THE CAR JUST SEVERELY HESITATED FOR 1-2 SECONDS AND DID NOTHING??. AFTER THIS INCIDENT I DROVE THE CAR DIRECTLY TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN RENTON WASHINGTON AND TOLD THEM THAT I WOULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR ANYMORE UNTIL SOMEBODY LOOKED AT IT THAT THERE WAS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT SOMEBODY WAS GOING TO GET HURT BADLY. IT APPEARS THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE.. I HAVE A 2018 HYUNDAI SANTA FE ULTIMATE 2.0 ALL WHEEL DRIVE. I TRIED TESTING IT IN SPORT MODE TO SEE IF THE PERFORMANCE

IN AUGUST OF 2018, MY 3 MONTH OLD SANTA FE SPORT CAUGHT FIRE AND WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. I WAS DRIVING ON THE NJ TURNPIKE HEADED TO OBX FOR VACATION. I WAS FOLLOWING MY SISTER DOWN WHEN THEY STOPPED TO LET THEIR DOG OUT AT A REST AREA. I PULLED INTO THE SPACE NEXT TO THEM AND AS SOON AS I TURNED THE CAR OFF, IT WENT UP IN FLAMES. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPT ARRIVED IT WAS ENGULFED AND I LOST EVERYTHING.

I RENTED THE VEHICLE FROM ENTERPRISE RENT A CAR ON MAY 28. IT SEEMED TO RUN FINE THEN AND ON THE MORNING OF MAY 29. BUT ABOUT 3.45P.M. I WAS DRIVING ON CITY STREETS IN ARCADIA TO MY DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT WHEN I SAW A CAR AHEAD OF ME SUDDENLY PUT ON ITS BRAKE LIGHTS. I PRESSED MY BRAKES, BUT MY CAR DID NOT SLOW. I HAD TO SWERVE AROUND THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, THE BRAKES STARTED WORKING AGAIN. AT THE NEXT TRAFFIC LIGHT, I MADE A LEFT BEHIND ANOTHER CAR. AT THE NEXT TRAFFIC LIGHT, I WAS GOING TO MAKE A RIGHT BEHIND THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. IT WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. I WAS ABOUT 50 YARDS AWAY, WHEN I PRESSED ON MY BRAKES, BUT THE CAR DID NOT SLOW. I PRESSED AS HARD AS I COULD, BUT THE CAR KEPT GOING AND GOING AND REAR-ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. IT THEN JUMPED BACK AND HIT THE OTHER CAR AGAIN. IT WAS A FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE. TO THE BEST OF MY RECOLLECTION, I HAVE NOT CAUSED A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT IN MORE THAN 30 YEARS. THE OTHER DRIVER AND I PULLED OVER AND EXCHANGED INFORMATION. BADLY SHAKEN, I DROVE TO MY DOCTOR'S OFFICE AND TOLD HIM ABOUT IT. UPON LEAVING HIS OFFICE, I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY IN HIS PARKING LOT BECAUSE OF THE BRAKES,, BUT THE BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK AGAIN. THIS TERRIFIED ME AS THE TRAFFIC ON THE ROAD AHEAD WAS FULL OF CARS. AS I WENT OVER A SPEED BUMP, THE BRAKES CAME BACK ON. I DROVE HOME AT ABOUT 15 MPH, AND ABOUT 100 YARDS BEHIND ANY OTHER CAR. I WAS VERY AFRAID. I PARKED MY CAR AT HOME. THE NEXT DAY, I CALLED ENTERPRISE TO HAVE THEM TOW THE CAR AWAY

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
