Driver seat belt will not latch properly. I have not spilled anything into it an have checked it for debris. If you jiggle and push slightly on the unlatch button while trying to insert the buckle it will sometimes latch

2018 Hyundai Santefe 2.4L engine burned oil at a high rate and due to this caused 4k oil changes obsolete. The car need an oil change every 2k miles and still would have high build up. Hyundai claimed engine failure was due to gaps in the oil changes them being done around 4.5k miles in the start. Many people have had engine failures with these car and they are still selling them with the defective engine to this date and not warning the buyers about the problems with these cars and are forcing the second hand buyers to pay $6-12k outta pocket to repair these cars after a year of owning them. I think Hyundai should be held accountable for these actions after they know these engines are defective and they still have them on their car lots for someone to stroll in and buy a $17k car with previous owners that will fail within the next year of ownership. Attached is maintence record for the vehicle.
Driving on highway, when accelerator failed to maintain, the car started to jerk. After blocking traffic behind me, I was able to pull car over on the side of the busy highway, with smoke coming from hood. This was well after dark, and it was towed to a local and dependable mechanic. He had told me the engine was cracked. I am in the process of finding out if I am eligible for the extended warranty, for I meet all requirements
I was on the highway and pressed the gas and the car started shaking. Wouldn’t go up in speed so I pulled off the highway and parked it. Checked the oil and it was almost empty even though I had an oil change about a month ago. Service center says it need a whole new engine at 108k miles. How is this possible? They say there were pieces of the valve in the fourth cylinder which also had lots of oil in it. I bought this car used and am only the second owner. Surely there is something Hyundai can do if they know about this issue.
I got into my vehicle and when I closed my door, my rear window exploded. There was no one around the vehicle. There were no other vehicles broken into, it literally exploded on its own.
The component that is malfunctioning is my engine. I took it into the dealership and they said I had cylinder scoring on my engine from excessive oil consumption. My safety was put as risk as my car threw itself into limp mode in the middle of the high way while going over 70 mph. I had to immediately pull over on the side of the highway and somehow get it back home while not being able to accelerate fully. My car is not drivable in this mode as it is unsafe. This issue has been confirmed by a dear shop although they refuse to replace the engine unless I pay for it out of pocket which is not possible. The vehicle component was inspected at the dealership. There was no prior warning to the engine issues. If there had been oil consumption issues before I had just recently bought the vehicle and there was no way of me knowing.
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Santa FE. The contact stated that while driving at 30 MPH, the was a burning oil smell permeating the interior of the vehicle. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the piston rings in cylinders one and three. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V301000 (Engine), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 7,000.
The engine is sucking oil faster than it normally would and could put me at danger. If it sucks up too much oil too soon I could lose control of my car in the winter and be the cause of an accident.
I continually need to add oil to the engine. It burns oil so fast I need to add three quarts weekly
Upon acceleration from a stopped or rolling stop the vehicle hesitates to propel causing a dangerous situation when entering traffic. Dealer claims its not bad and that the manufacturer is only going to suggest fuel injector cleaner. Fuel injector clener was tried with no improvement. Upon research i have found this to be a common problem with this model. This is not the first problem we have had related to this system. Programming has been adjusted in the past to fix another problem which tells me this could be a computer problem.
I experienced unintentional acceleration twice. Today, the second incident happened while slowly pulling into a handicap parking space. The car accelerated and went over the concrete parking block and knocked down the wooden pole with the handicap sign. I was fortunate that no person nor car was in the vehicle's path and I and my passenger were not hurt. I will be taking the car to the dealer service department as soon as possible. I am afraid to drive this vehicle anywhere now. This incident happened with no warning.
This is just a follow-up to request an Expedited Hearing regarding the Hyundai Santa Fe because the Engine Stallings, Oil Consumption (about 2 qts. every 1000 miles) Tailpipe Smoking problems are getting worse. It's becoming a Major Safety Hazard. Engine Stalling example: With both kids (girl [XXX] & boy [XXX] ) in the SUV Driving approx. 50 mph the Engine Stalled and I could not steer the SUV. I hit the curve to avoid the 50 mph oncoming traffic and a catastrophic accident. This incident (about 57,000 miles) and the subsequent 12 to 15 Stallings were reported to Hyundai and is why we are desperately requesting the Expedited Hearing. Many of the Engine Stallings were reported to Hyundai before the Hyundai original Manufacturer 60,000 mile warranty Expired in 10/21. HMA and Vandergriff Hyundai has not repaired the vehicle and is responsible for not Honoring Promises (documented) to test and repair the SUV that cause us to drive the vehicle past the 60,000 mile limited warranty. Per Hyundai Case Managers and Vandergriff Service Managers and Advisors (documented) the Engine Stallings, Oil Consumption/Tailpipe Smoking problems are caused by the manufacture defective engine. These Engine Stalling issues (from [XXX] > [XXX]) are cited in the Federal Class-Action Lawsuit Settlement (which includes our SUV) against Hyundai but Hyundai has not corrected the problem. The class-action settlement provides lifetime warranty repair of this problem. Hyundai has documented these problems via
The contact owned a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 40 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle hesitated and stalled. The contact stated the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the unknown repairs were at the vehicle owner’s expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 144,000.
The front passenger curtain airbags has failed and created a warning light that dealer indicated caused code B174900 and requires replacement.
Stopped at a red light and car caught on fire under the hood
Driving on the highway my Hyundai begins braking and cannot be stopped even though the Automatic braking system was disengaged. Dealt with the dealerships and they all provide no help at all. I have brought this to two different dealerships and they just have excuses. This is a known issue with Hyundai and needs to be addressed.
Q1. The car is shaking and making rumbling noises upon driving and a check engine light is turned on. It seem like the car will abruptly stop and may result in a crash on a highway. Inspection by multiple mechanics indicate that the engine is misfiring and there seems to be an engine oil leakage issue, imbalance of engine or some part of it. The engine configuration is the same as with the engine recalls (under recall number-17V226000) made on 2013 and 2014 models of Hyundai Santa Fe sport which is GDI, 2.4 Liter and was also manufactured in the USA. Yes, the car is available to inspect on request. Q2. The car was shaking and rumbling while driving even at 40mph. We had to pull up to the side because it felt risky and then had to drive slowly to reach home. It was scary and felt life-threatening with a risk of crashing due to abrupt halting of the car. Q3. Yes inspected by the manufacturer- Hyundai. Q4. The check engine light has been coming on and off for over 10 months period. The car has been inspected and checked by multiple mechanics including 2 times visit to the Hyundai service center. They first appeared in Oct 2023 and is an ongoing issue every other month costing me ~$1000. I have been filling up with 4 quarter of engine oil after driving ~200 miles since it was suspected to be an engine oil leakage issue. However, nothing has been resolved and this issue fits the description and problems seen the Hyundai 2013 and 2014 Santa Fe sports- which have been recalled (unde
See attached document for complaint.
The oil light has appeared to light up in the car while I am driving it. The first time was January 2023. I pulled over and checked my oil and had literally no oil in my car. I immediately went to Auto Zone (or Advance/O'Reilly's-I'll check my receipts) and poured 5 quarts of oil in the car and called Hyundai (this was within the timeframe of oil changes). They had me bring my car in and stated they needed to change oil and do an oil consumption test, so I had to drive 1,000 miles, bring my car back in and repeat. In the end, they said nothing was wrong with my car. In early August, this year, the same thing happened and I am having to go through this again.
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an abnormal amount of engine oil. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where an oil consumption test was completed, and the results were that the vehicle was consuming one quart of oil for every 640 miles driven. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, the contact stated the dealer contacted the manufacturer to request that the engine be replaced; however, the manufacturer declined to approve the engine replacement due to previous services being performed by independent mechanics. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
I got my oil changed 98,161 March 1 2024 at mechanic shop Mechanic shop checked oil March 29 2024 at 98,867 a total of 706 miles driven since last oil change. They added 2.5 quarts of oil. So i did my own research online found out the Hyundai 2018 Santa Fe Sport Turbo 2.5 Theta engines has excessive oil consumption problems that will cause Engine to seize/lock up, catch on fire, and other mechanical problems. I have an extended warranty TXXI and TXXC. Oil consumption leaks into the pistons and rod bearings and will cause a knocking in the engine. The oil is already in spark plugs and pcv valve which i replaced. But it will continue to keep happen over and over. I don't want my engine to catch on fire with me in it or at all that's why i am proactive in getting this solved now its already a problem. I contacted Wilson Hyundai dealership they did an 2 month oil consumption test Oil change i had to drive it for 1000 miles It failed. Then they did combuster chamber cleaning i had to drive it for another 1000 miles it failed again. So they submitted claim to corporate that i needed an engine. Corporate declined saying i was over my miles they had the wrong mileage it was a way just to deny me but dealership had correct miles so they could not follow through with that lie. So Corporate made Dealership send another claim in this time corporate denied it saying i was over my warranty. No i was not i started this at 98, 867 miles When 2.5quarts had to be added. I also had to wait a we
I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding the significant oil consumption issue with my 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. My vehicle was part of a class action lawsuit settlement that provided extended warranties and reimbursement for repairs related to oil consumption defects. I first reported the oil consumption issue in 2022, while my vehicle was still within the warranty period. Despite my multiple attempts over the past two years to have an oil consumption test conducted, Hyundai dealerships only agreed to perform the test in January 2024. The test confirmed that my vehicle has an oil consumption issue. However, Hyundai has refused to cover the necessary repairs, claiming that my vehicle is now past 100,000 miles and out of warranty. This refusal is unfair, as the issue was acknowledged within the warranty period, and the delays in testing were beyond my control. I must consistently add oil to my vehicle several times a month and get oil changes before the recommended timeframe to ensure the vehicle runs smoothly without damage.
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact observed smoke coming from the engine compartment. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and after an oil consumption test, it was determined that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The contact was informed that the engine was consuming 2-quarts of oil every 700 miles and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 100,000.
There has been an ongoing issue with oil consumption and engine failure with my car. The engine didnt give any indication of running hot on the dashboard. It just shut off while driving. I've been to the dealer a few times with no help. On 8/4/2024 my car cut off in the middle of traffic with my daughter in the car twice. It took 3 hours to cool off in 90 + degrees heat. Oil wasn't in the spark plugs but they keep getting shorted out. Oil burns and the engine stalls. I have to replace it which I did but my car shut down. We could've been in a bad accident because it wouldn't drive off immediately. We were stranded on a 2 way country road. This is all horrible because again, we could've been involved in a bad accident on the road we were on. After 5 1/2 hours it finally started and 2 people had to trail me home.
This car is burning excessive amounts of oil. I care for it diligently with regular oil changes and scheduled maintenance. Earlier this summer, Capital Tire and Service confirmed that the engine light was on due to a knock sensor likely caused by low oil. At their advisement I ran a consumption test; 800 miles later the engine was nearly empty of with another engine light signal. This light went off after adding 5 quarts of oil. I am routinely adding extra oil, hoping the engine does not seize, and waiting to see if Hyundai will issue a recall. This vehicle is not safe to drive.
Every time I get an oil change my oil is low. Have started checking my oil after the oil change, a week or so later and oil is low. I will check it the following day after the oil change and the oil level is fine but then the oil level drops as weeks go by. There are no warning lights that come on, especially the one time I was very low. I’ve been told by the mechanics that this is a common problem with Hyundai. Most recently I had an oil change done 7/15/24. I drove 600 miles so far and the oil is at least half a quart low
I was told by my mechanic that there was a service memo put out by Hyundai about the possibility of the engine in my vehicle consuming too much oil and they offered a fix. I did everything required. Oil change, oil consumption test etc. My engine is burning 3.3 quarts every 600 miles or so. Hyundai DENIED my claim to have them replace the engine even though it was an issue that they previously acknowledged and other people have had their engine fixed or replaced by Hyundai.
Oil consumption issue. At anytime the engine could fail and shut off making for unsafe driving and causing an accident. In progress, have done one consumption problem test and about to do a second. Oil light went on after an oil change and had that inspected at local garage. After that oil change within a week or so took back to garage and oil was down again after 735 miles and took it to the Hyundai dealer in Meriden CT after waiting 3 weeks for an appointment. They won't commit to saying it is a problem until they do more costly tests but it is evident it is the same problem my daughter had with jeep until they finally did a recall. Problem began in Feb but I went away and continued with issue when I got back at beginning of May. Have seen the same complaints on the internet and lawsuits etc.
Have 80,000 miles on vehicle , driving down highway , and total engine failure occurred. Luckily there was a highway shoulder I was able to roll onto for safety. No oil light had come on, but mechanic said there was an internal oil leak, and that I had no oil , and engine was blown. There are many known engine failures due to excessive oil consumption in the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport models. They need to offer a recall on this model and replace the engines of thismodel.
Engine failure misfire, oil consumption
Excessive oil consumption has occurred for the past couple of years. At 80,000 the crankshaft seized and died at an intersection and the dealer said that I need a new engine.
For the last year or so, we have had a major issue with oil consumption, there are no oil spots on our driveway yet the oil just disappears and we are constantly having to add more. I have spoken with Hollar Hyundai about the issue and they acknowledged there is a problem and that the SUV now has a lifetime warranty for the engine. We have all records of oil changes and my wife is very religious about getting it done as scheduled. We asked about what we are to do and all they said was drive the vehicle until the engine siezes up and then Hyundai will replace the engine. I asked about doing the test on the engine nd they will not do a test on the engine for us. We are at our whits end with this engine using so much oil and we need to have soeone from Hyundai Motor America contact us and help us resolve this issue. My wife loves our SUV and it is the first one she has ever paid cash for due to inheriting some money and now she is faced with the possibility of having to trade it in on another vehicle and thus coming out of pocket or even aking car payments again. PLEASE HELP US WITH THIS KNOWN ISSUE!!!!!
While driving my 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport in freeway traffic, I felt the vehicle begin to heavily vibrate and the engine was jerking severely. The speed began to slowly descend. I was unable to control this. I was in a one-lane overpass, with no safe place, room, or lane to pull over. I felt hopeless and fearful for my life. I was literally drifting, praying the vehicle would be able to handle the descent upward. As the speed declined, the vibrations became more pronounced. No dash lights were illuminated. Other drivers behind me were approaching rapidly at the speed limit and slamming on their brakes and hazard lights in an attempt to notify drivers further back. I managed to maneuver over to approximately 24 inches of a faux shoulder on the right of [XXX] . Cars hurled past mine within inches of my vehicle. I knew I needed to get out of the car and crawled over to the passenger side. Again, I was trapped. Several HPD units were dispatched to literally shut down the freeway to enable a tow truck driver to safely hook up my SUV. I had it towed to my mechanic and he did a diagnostic indicating a compression issue. He ordered new spark plus and 4 new coils. Upon further investigation he discovered that Cylinder 4 was not holding compression and he informed me that the engine had failed. I then had it towed to the local Hyundai dealer. At check in, I was informed that there would be a $700 diagnostic/tear apart fee to discover what repairs were needed. I informed them exactly
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. No warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that after an oil change, he frequently checked the engine oil level and noticed that it was low; however, there were no leaks found. The contact added 1-3 quarts of oil for every 1,000 miles driven. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.
I just got Hyundai SUV last December and already cause problem with engine and abs, after I found out that it is recalled a while ago. First ABS, I was going to fix that but all attention to me is engine light then found out it is High pressure fuel pump then burning oil that I smelled something isn't right. I feel it's not safe to drive and I spoke to mechanic, He told me take it back to dealership that they gave me a lemon Hyundai.. I talked to the dealership mechanic shop and never tell me anything how much for high pressure fuel pump? SO I already saw my SUV problem and I decided to check website for Hyundai recalled, that what I had right now.. It's only 6 years old and only 90,000 mileages on that SUV. That smell is very odd and it will cause engine fire..
Hydndai will not fix my engine until it catches on fire and or seize- There was a lawsuit and as per the settlement - the warranty is extended for the engine but the claim form and service agent said in order for the engine to be approved for replacement I would have to wait for it to seize or catch on fire. As a mother who drives with her children I find this unsafe for them or to others as this can cause an accident and or it can be fatal. They still have these recalled vehicles in there lots and our scamming people!!
- I experienced an engine failure while driving. - I was in traffic the auto lost power and I had to immediately pull over. The immediate loss of power caused traffic to break. Fortunately, there was no incident but it could've been dangerous in a more congested area. - I had the vehicle towed to a dealership. - The dealership has looked at it. They submitted a report to the manufacturer over a month ago. - I saw the engine light flash and heard clattering coming from the engine compartment.
Oil pan has a crack. On 03/15/2024 while receiving maintenance on car service personnel notified me that I had a crack in my oil pan and that it would have to be replaced. I have seen no signs of a leak in my driveway. Said they will replace for $395. Seems to be a common problem with Hyundai cars. Looks like a problem with the manufacturing of the oil pan.
My car cut off in traffic 1 week ago and almost led to an accident. This has been an ongoing issue that I reported 2 years ago with the engine consuming too much oil and ot has been leaking. I have to constantly purchase have oil and spark plugs.
My panoramic sunroof will not close and has become unaligned in the tracks. There was a loud "Pop" sound when opening and since will not come into complete closed position without physically moving the sunroof myself. Tracks have been checked for debris and lubricated to no effect. Previous years of this same model have reported that sunroof glass have spontaneously shattered. I believe that this same design flaw is evident in my vehicle.
During a dealer-suggested "oil consumption test" and driving down the interstate with cruise control on, SUV suddenly started experiencing reduced power and emitting a burning smell with no apparent warning lamps or messages. Exited the highway immediately and came to a stop on the side of the road and engine quit before even being able to put it in Park. Engine is 2.4L in-line GDI Theta II. Hoping to tow it to the dealer by week's end to have them pay for a replacement engine and get reimbursement.
The contact's wife owns a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming approximately two quarts of oil every 2,000 miles driven. There was no warning light illuminated. Upon further inspection of the vehicle, the contact also discovered that gasoline had escaped from the fuel cylinder and had leaked into the crankcase. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not yet diagnosed. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure and a case was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at 50 MPH, several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine had seized. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle had not been repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V810000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
While driving in the Highway, my car lost engine power and lead to my car run no more than 40 miles per hour, after this I took my car to the garage and the said it was the knock sensor that course this issue. After being in the garage, my car knock sensor was replace for a new one to make sure this was giving good reads and while driving in a two way street it happen again and I believe this could be very dangerous if it happen while passing another car on in a crossway. Yes. Yes. As soon it happen the check engine light started blinking. It happens 3 times end of Nov 2023, early December and late December 2023.
My car is burning oil. Took the car to the dealership where an oil consumption was complete, a chamber cleaning, and then another failed consumption test. Hyundai will only cover 60% of the engine replacement because I am the second owner. I think this is unacceptable, how do they think they’re only 60% responsible for selling cars like this? If I didn’t find this problem out when I did, I would have been stranded on the side of the road or I could have even burning my apartment complex to the ground. Someone has to do something about this, Hyundai is knowingly selling faulty cars and allowing the resell of these cars with no intention to ever cover the damages. My extended warranty will not cover anything because there is no cause of this problem. There is a class action against Hyundai over this that should be settled soon, meanwhile, these car dealerships are selling these used Hyundai/Kia timebombs. Meanwhile, I’m putting a quart of oil in my car every fill up of gas, I owe 4 years on the car still, and I’m stuck. I included my email correspondence with the heartless Hyundai rep...I'm not even sure this is the right spot, I just don't want someone else to fall into this same trap as I did.
Engine died on highway. Noc sensor code indicates is a known problem for this engine. 2.4 liter Hyundai sante fe sport. Before engine died was burning much oil even after oil changes and borught in for recalls to dealer 2 mo before. Excessive burning of ooil wa a know issue at that time July 2023. Now Hyundai dealer saying the issue is a customer issue due to carbon build up on a valve. High burnin rate of oil is responsible for the carbon build up on the valve causing the engine to fail. Not a cusotmer problem but a engine design issue.
The check engine light came on. The vehicle attempts to stall when changing gears after a stop or deceleration and the engine shutters at speeds 65mph or greater. I am afraid the vehicle will stall if a fast acceleration is required such as moving onto a highway. A diagnostic was performed to confirm the engine is causing the "Check Engine Light or Service Engine Soon Light."
On January 30th 2023 we made an appointment to take our 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport to our local dealership in Newmarket Ontario Canada due to a clunking in the front end of the vehicle. On inspection our 2018 Santa Fe Sport was identified as having a BROKEN COIL SPRING on the driver side. Along with this inspection it was also noted the passenger strut/shock had been leaking and was out of fluid. The Newmarket Hyundai Dealership considered this to be an emergency repair. This was determined because the coil and or both coils could totally break and puncture the front tires. This information I obtained from the Hyundai recall 167!!! Although according to the recall seemed to be only in America we truly believe our 2018 Santa Fe Sport in Canada falls into the same category of the Hyundai recall 167. It has cost us a considerable amount of money as I personally am on a Disability Government Pension as well as my wife is also on a fixed Income Retirement Pension. As for our last 3 Brand New Purchases have been nothing but Hyundai Vehicles for their reliability Safety and long lasting enjoyment!!!! That being said we are a little disappointed that this front end Coil Spring Shock/Strut issue has now made us scared of what Could have happened because of this defect that does not seem to apply at the moment in Canada. We were certainly hoping to purchase at least 1 more Hyundai SUV Product or a Hyundai vehicle with continued Reliability Safety and Always a Pleasure to Drive Product
This is a certified preowned vehicle. I am the second owner. I do my own maintenance. Currently this engine/vehicle has 64553 miles, I noticed it starting to use oil around the high 40k mile mark. There are no oil leaks. I have to add oil multiple times between oil changes and I just read that some of these can lock up and completely stop. I suspect this would be caused by people not checking their oil regularly however I am concerned that is the oil consumption is bad enough that this can happen at any time while driving so I wanted to add my complaint to any other existing complaints.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
