2016 Hyundai Elantra complaints

Brake lights constantly have to be replace twice a month. Wheel bearing have to be replaced twice a year. Brakes don't stop if mash quickly when hitting small hole. Its just grinding sound. My safety and others are put at risk every day. No messages or symptoms of problem till it happens, no warning lamps.

After a 290 mile work trip in my 2016 Hyundai Elantra (with approximately 43000 miles on it and regularly maintained at the normal maintenance schedule) I stopped to get gas. When I started the engine, I heard a horrible knocking noise and immediately turned the engine off. I let the engine cool down a little then started it again to get to an important work appointment. It continued knocking the entire time with no warning lights on. After work, I started the car again to drive it to a dealership, the knocking was really bad at this point. I got about a block down the street when the oil and engine light came on and the engine completely shut down while doing about 35 mph. I coasted into a parking lot, called a tow truck, and had it towed to a local Hyundai dealer. When I explained what happened to the service writer, he mentioned that Hyundai has been having a lot of problems with their engines. We went out to the vehicle and he asked me to start it so he could hear it. At that point, the motor didn't really want to start but did, and he checked the oil. He found that there was hardly any oil in it, but there were no leaks or signs of leaks anywhere. Again, I have always had the regularly scheduled maintenance done at my local Hyundai dealer which he verified. At that point, we went back inside and he said it will likely need a new engine. Now I am stuck without a car because it is at a dealership 290 miles away needing a new engine. I have taken such good care of this vehi

Trunk will not open. Passenger side latch doesn’t open the trunk. Trunk is stuck. Rear seats do not have a button or latch to make them go down/fold. Cannot get into the trunk from inside of car. Car passenger door has no access to trunk latch. No smart key came with car, but if trunk latch is broken/damaged, there is still no way to get access to the trunk! Safety feature has no access from inside or outside the car! No key entry to the trunk! Nothing!!! A child gets stuck in this 2016 Hyundai Elantra they will die!!! No key entry to the trunk.

I was driving the car at 25 MPH, when suddenly there was a clicking noise and the car lost power. I made it to my local service shop, but they were already closed. The next morning they called to inform me that the engine had blown and that it was a common problem for Hyundai vehicles. When the engine blew, it enabled gasoline to leak into the engine compartment. I feel that this is a serious fire hazard. Even though the care had high mileage, it was in good mechanical shape at the time of the incident. I had routine maintenance performed regularly. There were never any warning indicators that something might be wrong.

This cars engine has seized and stopped working. This is an unacceptable problem and it seems as though other years have a recall for this same issue. I would like my year and model added to the recall. I am furious about this situation.

As I was driving for my job going the speed limit I heard a slight ticking/knocking sounds I pulled over right away and it sounds like the motor is knocking, the gdi in other Hyundai models have a recall for them due to faulty connection rods making the engine fail as this one is, it is going into the dealership Monday and I will provide any documentation showing the car is stock and wasn’t abused in any way or form.

The airbags did not deploy when the other driver did not comply with the stop sign, which led to him getting off the road in front of me and destroying the entire front of the car, knowing that the airbags did not deploy now. I suffer from a neck injury

The trunk latch just completely stopped working out of no where. I always use the button on the actual trunk and have never had issues before. The trunk shuts, but the latch does not lock causing the trunk to not stay closed. This happened while on vacation when I needed to use my trunk for all of my items. I had to use 3 different bungee ropes and a ratchet strap to keep it closed from the inside. I had to drive 12 hours on the highway with the trunk like this beyond scared the trunk would pop open with all of my items back there since I had no where else to put them. I think we all need to use our trunks especially when the car itself is smaller with not much room for suitcases.

I lost power while driving my 2016 Hyundai Elantra gt and also started hearing a knocking sound so I pulled over and knocking sound got real loud. A friend came and towed me home about 70 miles and the next morning I checked the oil and my oil was empty. My car has been out of commission for over a month and my mechanic says that a ball bearing is the reason for my engine failure and knocking sound.

Latch for trunk does not work from the inside by the floor at the driver seat.

Check engine light didn't come on until the car no longer went into gear. Prior to light coming on car started jumping like 3 feet when going from park to drive sometimes and would do the same sometimes after proceeding from a stop. After about 2 weeks of doing this car would only go in reverse then the check engine light came on. Had it towed to dealer to be serviced. They said i need a new transmission and cost over $6800. Car has been in shop for 3 weeks now. I filed a complaint with you guys and was told to see if Hyundai would make things right and make it a recall since it was a huge safety issue i think. However they said there was nothing they could do cause my warranty was up cause I'm almost to 130000 miles. That shouldn't even matter it was still a safety issue. I was reading and found that a lot of people were having similar issues and Hyundai does nothing about it.

My vehicle is only 5 years old and the transmission has problems. I was driving and the car stopped with an impact force. I thought that someone or something had hit me from behind. For over over 2 months, I have been without a vehicle because the mechanic shop states that the transmission need part replacements.

The inside of my front windshield and inside of back window always get a film on them when using my air vents. It is like a gas film that forms on the mentioned windows and it is not easy to get the film off. It just smears. This has been going on for a couple of years. No one seems to know why. My vehicle started to have a slight delay when shifted from park to drive. Within a week's time the delay turned to a very hard shift which made car jump fast and hard making tires screech yet there was no check engine light. Then it started slipping out of gear on highway then it wouldn't go into the last gear and when in stop and go traffic fall out of gear when stopped then thrust really hard burning rubber when accelerating so had to distance myself far behind other cars so I wouldn't crash into them trying to accelerate after a stop. I get home safely let my vehicle rest a few hours before attempting to take car to be inspected. So I back out of drive way and my car doesn't go into drive at all and then the check engine light comes on. Now I have a friend bring scanner and the code P0722 comes up. I am disabled and on a fixed income still paying on the car. Luckily I broke down in front of my house.

Blue paint started peeling on the rear spoiler and rear bumper and side near handle.

Anytime I hit a bump going at least 35 mph the back of my car jumps to one side or another. I've tried adding weight to the back of the car, less and more air in tires, new tires, but nothing seems to fix the problem. It has knocked me sideways on the roads and when on the highway or interstate it's gets worse as you are driving faster. Winter time I have to drive the least amount I can on the faster roads because it can get out of control. I read on hyundai forums that this has been a problem for this type of car. Some people said getting better shocks reduces the problem, but does not completely fix it. I'm worried I will get into an accident because of this. I can't afford to try new shocks, because it doesn't completely fix the problem. It is also wearing the tires much faster then they should. Consumer made several attempts to reach out to the manufacturer but no response. Vehicle has issues with rear end sliding back and forth as well as the rear axle.

OIL CONSUMPTION,IN THREE MONTHS OR 3K MILES, IT CONSUMES 3 LITTERS, I TOOK IT TO DEALER, THEY DID TEST AND THEY SAID YES THAT IS NORMAL, IT CANNOT BE NORMAL, IF I DRIVE ANOTHER 3K MILES WILL MOST LIKELY BURN THE ENGINE FOR SURE, I KEEP POURING OIL IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES

I WAS DRIVING TO NORWOOD ON A RESIDENTIAL ROAD AND THE CAR BEGAN OVERHEATING SO I PULLED OVER, LET IT COOL DOWN, AND ADDED WATER TO THE RADIATOR. I DIDN'T KNOW WHY IT WOULD OVERHEAT, BUT ONCE IT COOLED, I DROVE BACK HOME. WE CHECKED THE OIL AND OTHER FLUIDS TO BE SURE IT WASN'T LOW. THE FLUIDS WERE FINE AND WE THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE THE RADIATOR. THE NEXT DAY, I WENT TO A LOCAL RESTAURANT IN EASTGATE OHIO. WHEN I PULLED INTO THE DRIVE THRU, IT FELT LIKE THE CAR WASN'T GETTING POWER AND THEN SHUT OFF. I WENT TO START IT, BUT IT WOULDN'T START. THE ENGINE WOULDN'T EVEN TURN OVER. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO MY APARTMENT BY OUR MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AND EXPLAINED THAT THE ENGINE IS LOCKED UP. I STILL OWE ON THE VEHICLE SO I PARKED IT AND HAVE BEEN TRYING TO SAVE MONEY TO GET AN ENGINE.

ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF MY CAR THE FRONT AXLE SHAKES REALLY BAD CAN I KEEP IT IN THE ROAD.

PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRING ON MY 2016 ELANTRA SNAPPED AFTER DRIVING OVER A NORMALLY WORN ROAD. TAKING TO A MECHANIC TOMORROW TO ASSESS THE DAMAGE. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE MY SIGNIFICANT OTHER HAD WITH HIS 2011 SONATA AND A FRIEND OF MINE'S 2015 ELANTRA. FINDING IT VERY ODD THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL RECALLS OUT FOR THE SAME REASON ON MANY OTHER YEARS AND ON SONATAS.

MY CAR IS A PUSH START N IT WILL NOT TURN OFF .. I OUT THE BOTTOM TO TURN IT OFF BUT THE ENGINE IS STILL CONSTANTLY RUNNING IT WON'T TURN OFF

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH I HEARD A KNOCKING SOUND, THERE WERE NOT ANY WARNING LIGHTS ON. I TURNED DOWN THE RADIO AND A/C SO I COULD HEAR IT BETTER, MOVED TO THE RIGHT LANE AND SLOWED DOWN, A RED OIL LIGHT FLASHED ON BRIEFLY AND THE KNOCKING GOT VERY LOUD. I EXITED THE HIGHWAY AT THE NEXT EXIT APPROX. 1 1/2 MILES DOWN. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF, HAD IT TOWED TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN VENICE. 2 DAYS LATER THEY TOLD ME IT HAD NO OIL IN IT. 5 DAYS LATER THEY SAID IT NEEDED A NEW $8000 ENGINE! I HAVE ALWAYS KEPT UP WITH THE MAINTENANCE AND OIL CHANGES. I WAS 2000 MILES OVER THIS TIME, BUT THAT SHOULD NOT LEAVE 0 OIL IN THE CAR. APPROX. 60,000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE. AND IF OIL WAS GETTING LOW WHY DIDN'T ANY LIGHTS COME ON.

ENGINE IS CONSUMING 1.2 QUARTS OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES I WAS TOLD BY HYUNDAI THAT IT IS NORMAL TO HAVE THAT HAPPEN. I DON'T THINK THAT IS NORMAL AT ALL. I DRIVE MOSTLY ON HIGHWAY.

I WAS DRIVING WHEN SUDDENLY I HEAR A KNOCK IN THE ENGINE AND A GRINDING SOUND INSIDE THE ENGINE AND A MECHANIC INSPECTED IT AND SAID THAT IT IS ROD BEARING THAT THEY HAVE DAMAGE, SPEAK TO THE HYUNDAI DEPARTMENT AND THAT THEIR SYSTEM DID NOT WORK THAT THEY COULD NOT GIVE ME INFORMATION

CAR HAS BEGUN TO MALFUNCTION AFTER ONLY THREE YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNS OF A FAULTY ENGINE OR OVERHEATING. IN DECEMBER OF 2020 I TOOK THE CAR TO GET AN OIL CHANGE, IT IS NOW JANUARY 2021 AND I HAVE HAD TO ADD OIL TO MY CAR DUE TO AN OVERCONSUMPTION OF OIL. AFTER TAKING IT TO HYUNDAI I AM NOW BEING TOLD THAT THE CAR MIGHT NEED TO HAVE THE PISTON RINGS REPLACED WHICH WOULD REQUIRE AN ENGINE REBUILD OR A WHOLE NEW ENGINE. THE CAR MALFUNCTIONS ON THE ROAD AS WELL AS WHEN IT IS IDLING. THE CAR WAS USED REGULARLY FOR SCHOOL BUT SINCE THE PANDEMIC BEGAN IT HAS BEEN RARELY USED.

DRIVER'S FRONT SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN CAR WAS HIT AT SPEED (ON THE PASSENGER SIDE) IN INTERSECTION BY ANOTHER VEHICLE RUNNING A RED LIGHT.

FRONT HEADLIGHTS NEED REPLACING ONE MONTHLY. HAD IT REPAIRED AT THE DEALERSHIP WHILE STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A WIRING ISSUE BUT SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. THE FRONT HIGHBEAMS AND DAYLIGHTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED FOR GOING OUT (NO LONGER WORKING) 12 TIMES IN 2 YEARS.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE RODS AND PISTON FAILED AND THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE RECENTLY HEARD A KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND HAD CALLED THE SAME DEALER AND WAS INFORMED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 71,200.

ON NOVEMBER 10, 2020, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, AND MY CAR OUT OF THE BLUE STARTED KNOCKING. AS I KEPT DRIVING ABOUT 1/2 MILE THE KNOCKING GOT WORSE. I HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHEN I DID, MY ENGINE QUIT AND STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO START IT BACK UP, BUT IT CONTINUES TO KNOCK. THE CAR IS NOT FIXABLE, THERE ARE NO MOTORS AVAILABLE FOR THE CAR, AS HYUNDAI HAS STOPPED MAKING 2016 MOTORS. IM STUCK WITH A 12K LOAN ON A CAR THAT I CAN NOT DRIVE.

I'M NOT SURE THE EXACT DATE BUT I KNOW ONE DAY I WAS DRIVING FINE AND THEN LATER THAT NIGHT I WENT TO GET GAS AND MY CAR WAS ACTING FUNNY AND NOT WANTING TO GO FORWARD IN DRIVE UNTIL IT KICKED BACK AND THEN WENT.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.

WAS TOLD A MANUFACTURER DEFECT WITH THE ENGINE BY MY LOCAL DEALER HYUNDAI REPAIR SHOP

I WAS DRIVING ON A ROAD THAT IS 50MPH WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE I WASN'T ABLE TO AND DROPPED SPEED NO LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE CAR STARTED JERKING AND JOLTING. I THEN HEARD A TICKING COMING FROM THE HOOD. I THEN HAD IT TOWED TO HYUNDAI AND WHEN THEY FINALLY DID LOOK AT IT THEY SAID THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED REPLACED.

IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS MY REAR WINDOW IS BUBBLING BETWEEN THE WINDOW. IF IT CONTINUES IT LOOKS LIKE THE WINDOW WILL SEPERATE OR SHATTER. IT LOOKS LIKE MOISTURE GOT IN BETWEEN THE GLASS AND TINT.

MY ENGINE, WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING SIGNS, SUDDENLY STARTED TO MAKE A KNOCKING NOISE APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES AFTER DRIVING IT. WITHIN A FEW MILES ON THE HIGHWAY, THE SOUND GOT LOUDER AND HEAVIER, AND THE ACCELERATION BECAME VERY WEAK. I PULLED OVER AND STOPPED THE CAR. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART IT WAS SO HESITANT TO DO SO THAT I CALLED FOR A TOW. UPON INSPECTION THE ENGINE WAS CONSIDERED DEAD AND HAD TO BE VERY EXPENSIVELY REBUILT. I KEEP UP WITH MY REGULARLY SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES AND HAVE MAINTAINED THE CAR PROPERLY FOR THE DURATION OF MY OWNERSHIP. THIS MALFUNCTION CAME OUT OF NOWHERE AND WAS NO FAULT OF MY OWN.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE STREET WHEN I REACHED A STOP LIGHT. I CAME TO A COMPLETE, FULL, AND SAFE STOP. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY. AND BEFORE THIS DAY THAT THIS ALL HAPPENED, THE CAR WAS IN PERFECT DRIVING CONDITION. NOTHING WAS WRONG FROM WHAT I COULD TELL. I THEN TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON, IN THE FRONT OF TRAFFIC FORMING BEHIND ME. IT KEPT SHUTTING OFF EVERY TIME I WOULD STOP OR SLOW DOWN. IT HAPPENED ABOUT 7 TIMES BEFORE I WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT FROM.

DIFFICULTY STARTING. SOMETIMES IT WOULD HAVE TO SIT FOR AN HOUR OR TWO TO GET IT TO START. STALLED AT RED LIGHT. BURNING GAS FASTER THAN NORMAL. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP, AND WAS TOLD CRANKSHAFT SENSOR HAD GONE BAD. REPLACED.

I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE FOR A YEAR NOW. I TOOK THE CAR TO HYUNDAI SEVERAL TIMES TO GET MY VEHICLE SERVICE AND EACH TIME THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEMS I AM EXPERIENCING ARE A DELAY IN ACCELERATION, CAR SHUTS OFF OCCASIONALLY WHILE DRIVING, CAR SHUT OFF OCCASIONALLY WHEN SWITCHING TO REVERSE, THE CAR ALWAYS SHAKES AND MAKES A WEIRD NOISE JUST BEFORE SHUTTING OFF. THE CAR JERKS WHEN DRIVING SPONTANEOUSLY, LOW TAPPING NOISE UNDER THE HOOD THAT COULD BE HEARD INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I HAVE VIDEOS OF MY CAR SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING AND BACKING UP. I ALSO HAVE VIDEOS OF THE TAPPING NOISE AND SHAKING JUST BEFORE SHUTTING OFF. THE LAST TIME I TOOK MY CAR TO BE SERVICED I WAS TOLD THAT THE OIL PRESSURE PUMP AND EXHAUST CVT NEED REPLACEMENT. I WAS TOLD THE HYUNDAI TECHLINE INSTRUCTED THE TECHNICIAN NOT TO MAKE ANY REPAIRS BECAUSE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I WAS ADVISED BY A HYUNDAI CASE MANAGER TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO ANOTHER HYUNDAI SHOP TO SEE IF THEY CAN DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *TR
