Issues with overall dash system. If truck is locked and off the truck will continuously attempt to start and will set the alarm off. Have been unable to leave the truck locked for a year now due to this issue. This has also transitioned into most of the safety features no longer working.

Lost brakes as I was trying to decelerate to make a left turn on FM 1472, still managed to come to a stop before hitting the traffic ahead of me that was also waiting to make a left turn. Smoke started to come out from the wheel wells. Put vehicle on parking, shut off engine, opened hood and found fire coming out from the back of the engine bay. Extinguished fire with a Fire extinguisher, and a few minutes later, a Fire Dept Truck arrived to hose it just to make sure it was properly extinguished. Water intrusion/collection under the carpet under the carpet in the rear cabin if the truck. Musty smell started back in 2018 and didn't realized the soaked carpet after a few months when I came across an online forum about same issue happening with a lot of 2nd gen Honda Ridgeline. Dealership refused to cover the repair on the problem.
Keyless start system error: Vehicle displayed a warning with this message. I had the vehicle battery changed and the warning code went away. A month later the same warning code returned. In reviewing blogs, others say it is most likely the keyless start button gone bad. Honda fix is reported to be $400. Worried that the vehicle could lose power while moving or not be able to start in an environment that my safety could be jeopardized. Many blog entries from others with this same problem with 2017 Honda Ridgelines.
2017 Honda Rideline RTL-T with 46,464 miles on the odometer. While on a trip totaling approximately 550 miles, after travelling approximately 350 miles we stopped to refuel. The Truck after fueling was hard to start and would lose power at 35-40 mph and would not accelerate. Check Engine light was on plus Various Dash Caution lights (ABS, SRS, EPS, AWD, VSA, Hill Traction, etc) I used an ODB 2 code reader and read P0087 Fuel Rail/System Too Low. I was able to take back roads driving approximately 8 miles at 20 mph to safely arrive at closest Honda Dealership in Abilene. The service advisor there told us it could not be diagnosed that day and the service department do not stock parts. We rented a vehicle and continued our journey. If the truck broke while we were on I-20 Freeway while traffic was passing us at 80 mph, we could have easily been in a serious accident. The service advisor called 1 day later with diagnosis of failed High Pressure Fuel Pump, with replacement part not expected until 4 days later (includes 2 weekend days) when it could be installed. The truck was repaired on the estimated day and we were able to drive 350 miles back home with no other issues. Strange thing was on the dealer invoice they noted that code they retrieved was P0088 Fuel/Rail System Pressure Too High
At 90,300 miles my backup camera stopped working. When I put the transmission in Reverse, the display just shows a black screen instead of an image of what is behind my truck. Upon visual inspection I can see that the wires at the tailgate have become frayed/broken.
Broken wire(s) from the truck body to tailgate. Backup camera fails to work, making it extremely dangerous backing up truck. Honda dealer found the broken wires and quoted $498.00 to correct the problem. The camera start shorting out intermittently in Fall of 2021. Continuously started failing in May, 2022. No warning lights come on to warn of failure of camera. The camera just fails to turn on when backing up. This also puts people walking behind vehicle in danger when truck is backing up.

Back-up camera black screen due to tailgate wiring harness failure.
Seat release handle is defective and breaks due to product design. Poor quality plastic material can not withstand tension from metal cable when actuated and a plastic component breaks inside the component of the seat lever causing seat to be locked in place which could potentially trap a child or the seat can not lock and stay in unlocked position and the seat will not flip up and rest in a lock position. Which is also a hazard because seat is not secured and will flop around. Honda does not sell the plastic part separately they are gouging the consumer by charging $477.92 for a replacement kit when the only part needed is a $10 plastic handle, which can easily be switched out by consumer. Average dealer cost to replace is $799 for the repair. Contacted Honda they will not sell plastic handle separately and are aware at the issue with their product.
Ridgeline backup camera wire harness gets pinched/cut from tailgate. Many others reported but no recall. Paid $472.19 to repair. 2017-2019 have reported same issue
My incident is related to the Keyless Module Part #0 38320-T6Z-A31, My pick up was parked outside in my work parking lot. It started the alarm making sounds, my coworkers let me know it,I just went to take look check it and I just turned off the alarm and set it on again, after that the car started do it again after 5 minutes, and it was a nightmare because after several times, I tried to disable the alarm in the touch screen panel, but it doesn't have any control I was available to disable it, I was seating in my car, and I noticed the instrumental panel started to turn on and off,it was like my car tried to turn on the engine by itself for several times, and making really scared noise like is going to have a electrical short cut, I was worried it can cause making my car coughing fire. I decided to make a video of it because in case it my car coughing fire. So I decided to live open my car with out lock. I noticed it was happening before after I changed the engine start/ stop switch was changed by the dealer because it was a recall and I also started having problems with the Keyless system, after they changed it, it started working again, I noticed the alarm sometimes made the same thing but I didn't put much attention about it, because it happens sometimes, but this time was really scary, so I made appointment with the dealer and they told me my car had problems with the Keyless Module, I told them if this problem is related to the engine start/stop engine. They said it was
The back up camera failed to work. We either had a blank screen or a screen with a grid but no picture of what was behind the truck when going in reverse. The truck was taken in for service and found to have broken wiring in the camera harness. This was found to be at the area the tailgate opens and closes. The tailgate harness was replaced by the service center and the camera now functions properly. We have the old harness that was damaged in our possession. This was a safety issue to not be able to see what was behind you when backing up. There has been complaints filed about this problem on 2017 Honda Ridgeline in the past by others owners but no recall has been issued.
Backup camera wire hardness broken due to open and close the trunk tail gate
Rearview camera in tailgate stopped working due to a damaged wiring harness. The harness is routed in a manner which is sure to fail through normal tailgate operation.
The wiring to the backup camera is failing because it is crimped between the tailgate and the body. Every time you open and close the tailgate the wire flexes wearing at the sheathing and flexing the wires within. I've seen multiple reports and videos of this harness and the wires within failing which causes a short and the backup camera to fall.
This 2017 Honda Ridgeline, at present, has 47430 miles of operation. I am the third owner having purchased on 12DEC2020 w/38990 miles. The instrument panel has been plagued by faulty warning symbols for most of my ownership. The problem now has grown to the point where I can't find any maintenance displays. Also, only one screen is visible showing operational information. I am not alone in this safety issue.
Wiring is clearly broken down on the left side inside the tailgate causing the backup camera to not work. Sounds like an incredibly common issue and I am being quoted $700 to have it fixed.
The truck’s dual swinging tailgate pinches the wiring harness leading to the backup camera causing a break in the wires. The inoperative backup camera poses a safety concern. Repairing the wires or replacing the OEM wire harness does not address the design flaw. Please contact me with and questions or concerns. Back up camera stopped working due to wiring harness cut by rear tailgate closing
Opening and closing the tailgate has resulted in the wires breaking that go to the backup camera. Needless to say you need to be able to open and close tailgate on a truck.
The backup camera has failed. Troubleshooting led me to discover the wiring harness where the tailgate opens and closes is frayed exposing/cutting the wires. Likely wires are low voltage. However, could there present a sparking hazard and ignite flammables being carried? At this time, the camera has no display.
Backup camera stopped working. It started in 2019 with the down looking view would show black but the other views still working, today 6/18/2022 all views are black with only the gridlines showing on the screen. Upon inspection the wire harness and wires are broken where the cable goes from the tailgate to the body due to opening and closing the tailgate using the hinge on the side.

Backup Camera Stopped working. Wiring harness to tailgate is frayed.
The harness to the backup camera has split due to the tailgate and the backup camera is no longer working.
Wiring for the back-up camera running between tailgate and body on drivers side has been pinched with opening and closing of the tailgate, which has caused the wires to be broken apart, thus making the back-up camera unfunctional.
Hood latch recall. Inspected & partially repaired by Classic Honda of Midland, TX on 02/08/2022. There are cracks around the hood striker, & I have pictures. It says on invoice that it was submitted to DPSM. I have called the dealership service department several times & the advisor has not returned my calls about the results of DPSM. I called Honda customer service & she told me they can do nothing because each dealership is privately owned. The hood vibrates still & looks like it will fly off in windstorms & passing semis on interstates. The blue rectangles on picture were drawn by the service technician.
REAR VIEW CAMERA FAILURE I opened and closed the rear tailgate a couple days ago, and the Rear View Camera stopped displaying when the vehicle is in reverse. Just a black screen for a while, then, the guidance lines show up, still with no picture. I have not taken this to the dealer yet, but on RIDGELINEOWNERSCLUB.COM, this appears to be a common problem, caused by a broken wire harness near the tail gate hinge.
My backup camera stopped working on April 16. I investigated and found the wiring harness is snapped at the tailgate. Upon a google search I realized this is a known issue and wanted to file my complaint to hopefully get this issue resolved.
When reversing, I've had several instances over the past several years where the backup screen just went to black (Head unit displays black, with the guide marks.) i figured it was a software issue. However, when the back-up camera ceased working I googled the issue with "2017 Honda Ridge-line and backup camera" and found that severed wires at the tailgate left corner hinge area is a common issue. I found the harness broken at the pivot point of tailgate. (Left bottom corner of tailgate)Tailgate wiring exposed in hinge. Plastic cover has split/separated. I am a sixty-three year old female so I'm not using the tailgate/truck bed very much. I took it to the dealership (04/12/22); they told me they have not had any reported instances of this issue and then requested how I broke the harness! They quoted me a price to purchase/replace the harness; however, since this seems to be an issue across 2017 -2019 Ridge-lines with the wiring loom not having enough slack, combined with the 90° bend at the tailgate, allowing the thin metal edge of the tailgate to press directly against the wiring, especially when the tailgate is fully swung open. I believe Honda should replace the harness under a TSB.
Rear camera not working. Defect in tailgate harness
Rear camera stopped working.. cannot back up as safe as when camera worked dealer confirmed problem no other inspection no warning prior to failure October 2021

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
