I own a 2016 Honda Pilot which had an unexpected and unexplainable engine failure related to an engine bearing in February of 2022 with only approximately 69,000 miles. Fox Honda, in Grand Rapids, MI could not identify the cause of my engine failure beyond a failed bearing, and I paid over $7,000 related to a replacement engine. I attempted calling Honda, and was told that my vehicle was not within the reported VIN’s. For the current recall. I find the sudden unexplainable failure of an engine bearing in my vehicle and the subsequent recall related to an engine bearing failure in vehicles of the same make, model and year to not be coincidence.

I began having intermittent issues with my electric start button. I called Honda of mentor where I purchased the car. They told me I'd need to bring it in for diagnostic. Initially since they claimed this wasn't something they had heard of as an issue and since it was only an Intermittent issue I didn't take it in. The issue got worse until 1 day at work my car didn't want to start. I again called Honda of menor and explained the issue and asked if they had heard of anyone else having the same problem and was told no and all I could do was bring it in for diagnostic. So I scheduled the appointment and once off the phone I got on Google and found a service bulletin for my exact issue so I was obviously upset and felt lied to. I took the bulletin to the appointment but was told that since my car was like 2000 miles over they wouldn't cover the issue.. but I had called about it 4-5 months prior and I was never notified the bulletin was issued. They ended up charging me to fix the issue or they were going to charge me a diagnostic fee. I feel robbed and now I am reading about the engine recall and many who are supposedly not a part of the recall but having the exact problem. I certainly hope I don't encounter issues with my engine. Honda is apparently not as trustworthy as they once were and they don't care.

Purchased a used 2016 Honda Pilot Elite in "great condition" from the Honda dealership 2.12.24 @ 99,745 mi. Car performed awesome, minus the need for new battery and continued to perform well until recently 10.15.24. The car was a bit low on oil so I topped it off thinking that this new clicking sound from the central part of the engine would mellow. I gave the engine a day or two to allow the engine to hopefully settle. Still heard the clicking. Took it in to the shop 10.21.24, thinking that it may be the timing belt tensioner beginning to go, (I'm @ 107,000 now. I took it to the shop before 105,000 6.21.24) and my mechanic confirmed the belt is still good and has much life left) and was told my engine is on the verge of seizing up. The noise I'm hearing is related to the Cam Rod/connecting rods of my engine. Theres still not a check engine light on in the car.! WTH? This came as a complete surprise. My VIN is currently not included in the engine recall incident #23V751000 issued 11.12.23, but it should be!!!!!! I've made an appeal to American Honda, but I'm not confident of the results based on what I'm seeing others have posted before me. Please help us!

I was driving on the interstate last March of 2024. I have a Honda Pilot 2016. Im going 70 miles an hour or so and my engine just stalls and quits. So many alerts come up on my vehicle as well. Check engine lightTrailer Stability Assist Problem, Power Steering System EPS Problem, Trailer Stability Assist Problem, Hill Start Assist Problem, and others. I make it to the off ramp coasting this is a huge problem because I could have killed someone or someone could have killed me or provided Serious injury. I get it towed and I called the dealership and no recalls. I take it to my Mechanic and discover it was reading Code (P0087) The fuel pump not working at all. I had to replace it to drive the car. I am so livid as I see on the Honda Service Bulletin of a Safety Recall for 2016-2021 Pilot Fuel Pump Motor. This revision supersedes the previous recall of the Fuel Pump Motor from July 19th, 2024. I can see why their wasn't a recall when I checked. Cars from those years are now having this problem and should not be subject to certain VIN# on cars. I called Honda today 10-18-24 and was told this isn't covered.because my VIN wasn't in covered cars. How the heck does a VIN number cover or not cover you. Those years are what matter and my safety was at risk and could have proven fatal. **2016 Honda Pilot with Rod Bearing wear** as acknowledged by Honda America and NHTSA. The problem was also diagnosed by a certified Honda technician (see attached) at the dealership. Honda needs to expand their recall because more and more people are experiencing this issue. My pilot was manufactured in June of 2016 and Honda says the "recall" only runs up onto June 3rd. Sounds to me like the Pilot is eligible for the recall. The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would either hesitate or stall upon the depression of the accelerator pedal as the check engine light would appear on the instrument panel. The contact initially stated that the vehicle would restart after multiple attempts and resume normal driving; however, after a recent failure, the vehicle failed to restart. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed with a defective fuel pump. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) but the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer and had yet to be repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.

I recently had to have a short block engine replacement due to the known connecting rod bearing issue with 2016 and 2018-2019 Honda Pilots (service bulletin 24-001). I had to pay for the repairs in full since Honda Corporate said my vehicle is not yet part of the recall. I think it is obvious that my vehicle as well as numerous other vehicles [XXX] ) that experienced the exact same issue need to be included in this recall and reimbursed for our hefty expenses. Honda needs to be pushed to expand the VIN range that is included in this recall. It is no coincidence that we are all experiencing the same exact issue that is mentioned in the recall especially when Honda is known for manufacturing vehicles in a quality manner that usually do not exhibit this sort of major malfunction. Please have someone investigate this further as there are many of us that are having to spend quite a bit of money on repairs when it is pretty obvious that we should be included in this recall. Rolled into a parking lot and the car suddenly stalled right before I could get into the spot - electriconics were still working and what not. Turned the car off and on and pulled in and then proceeded to charge my portable jumper just in case. Came back a few hours later and drove it home - all sorts of sensors were going off but the car was still fine. Once I got home, I swapped the battery with one that I was charging. At this point there was light flickering and more sensors failing. I went to replace with a new battery and it drove fine for a day or two. On the last day, my girlfriend said it started happening again, and she turned around and came back home where it stalled out again. We are terrified to drive this vehicle and purchased a different one out of fear. Please fix this issue, Honda, as it is pretty rampant from the other reports here.

The A/C in my 2016 Honda Pilot is blowing hot air. On my first visit to the dealer, dye was added to detect the leak at a cost of $422. Upon returning to the dealer a second time, the dealer replaced the A/C condenser at a cost of $1,075, which did not solve the problem. Upon returning to the dealer a third time, the A/C condenser was replaced again, and that also did not solve the problem. Upon returning to the dealer a fourth time, the dealer now recommends replacing the A/C evaporator at a cost of $2216. I believe these parts are defective, as Honda has already issued service bulletins extending the warranty to 10 years for the A/C Condenser in certain vehicles. This new warranty extension applies to the Accord, Accord Hybrid, Clarity, Civic Type-R, and Insight. [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] According to the service bulletins "This warranty extension covers vehicles that have a defective A/C condenser from the factory. The A/C condenser was not manufactured to specification. As a result, corrosion may develop in the form of tiny holes in the condenser tube walls that allow the refrigerant to leak out." See (Warranty Extension: 2019–21 Insight A/C Condenser) I am requesting that the 2016 Honda Pilot be included in the warranty extension, as I am experiencing the same issues for the expensive repairs. For the last few years the idle stop feature has resulted more than one dozen times of me being stuck at a stop light and not being able to get the car started. It will idle off and when I lift my foot off the break it will have trouble starting back up. If I wait a minute or so it can sometimes start back up but at least four times it has required a jump start to get it started again. It’s extremely stressful and scary to be at a light and stuck there with people honking and having to get out of the vehicle in a busy intersection to try to jump start the vehicle. I try to remember to turn off the feature every time I start the car but I forget sometimes. After the latest time being stuck with a toddler and trying to get someone to stop to jump start my car I am sending in a report.

On 9-4-2024 my 2016 Honda Pilot was being driven on a city street when the engine stopped. The vehicle re-started and was driven to my residence. Messages had appeared on the dashboard. I scheduled an appointment with Courtesy Honda for the next day. On 9-5-2024 the vehicle started and I proceeded to drive it the 6 miles to Courtesy Honda. About halfway there the engine died. Multiple messages appeared on the dashboard. My wife had been following me in her car when the Pilot died. She helped me by steering the Pilot as I pushed it off the busy street manually to a side road. It was a hazardous situation. The Pilot would not start . I called a towing service to tow it to the dealership. At Courtesy Honda a service technician examined the vehicle and diagnosed the problem as “ high pressure fuel pump failure and low pressure fuel pump failure.” He recommended replacement. I approved the repair. It was completed for a total of $1754.46. I researched Recalls Of Honda Pilots For Fuel Pump Failure. I found there was a massive recall of thousands of Honda Pilots from 2016 and beyond. Letters were sent from Honda to owners authorizing replacement of fuel pumps. My VIN number was not included in the recall. It should have been.

- The idle engine function does not work. I turn it off in general because if it is on, when I stop the car dies and the dashboard and electric functions, malfunction. They turn on and off and I cannot automatically start the car; it takes several times for the car to restart. - Today, I went to a pharmacy and when I tried to restart my car to leave, it would not begin. The dashboard went on and off and it took 1 minute for it to restart properly. - My teenage son is now a driver but I will not let him drive the car because it will stall. We drive to school everyday 45-60 minutes there and back; we are in the car a lot. - When I went to the dealer 1 year ago, they were going to charge me $200 for a diagnostic and then $2000 to fix the problem. I told them if I turn the function off, I have no problem. They suggested I do this. They offered no other solution. - Now, however even when the function if off, the engine is now stalling. - A few years ago, it stalled at a light on an incredibly hot day so I attributed it to the heat.

Our 2016 Honda Pilot stopped working at a busy intersection stoplight due to engine failure. Thank God no one plowed into the vehicle. If it was on the highway it could have been catastrophic. We had it towed to our local Honda dealer. They told us it would be $1000k in a diagnostic fee to take apart the engine to determine what was wrong. It was a connecting Rod bearing failure. There is a recall dated March 8th, 2024 for our 2016 Honda Pilot except our VIN number isn't included in the recall. It states "may have engines containing internal damage at the connecting rod bearings, possibly leading to engine failure." Our Honda dealer confirmed that this is what happened to our engine. On the [XXX] " website I found many others have had the same problem. They paid $8000 or $9000 to replace the engine. There is talk of a class action lawsuit on this thread. We were quoted $15000 to replace our engine by the dealer. Honda headquarters says they will pay 20 percent of the cost. This means we would owe 11,000 for a new engine on a vehicle priced out to be valued at around $15,000 on KBB.com. We should have a working SUV that is worth 15,000, but unless we pay 11,000 it is now worthless. Honda Motor Corporation must do the right thing and expand the recall to all of the vehicles affected. Car started displaying "Keyless start system problem". I changed both batteries in the key fobs, but it continued. After about 2 weeks of this, the car would not start. Just clicking and flickering of lights and gauges. Would not jump off or anything, so I had to tow it home. After researching it and checking the brake light switch to make sure it was still operational, and after purchasing and installing a new start/stop button, I decided to get a new battery. I took the old battery in and they said it was good, but I still got another one and installed it. The car started up and has been working for about 4 weeks, but now the same message is popping up again. I am worried that my wife will drive it somewhere and get stranded. I have seen that there are recalls on this on some of the Honda sites, but can't find it anywhere else. This needs to be addressed as it seems like a lot of people are reporting the same issue.

A few years ago, I reported a problem with my car's auto idle stopping, causing the car to stall, and taking a few minutes to restart. Honda offered to update my software to fix this issue, which I did last March. Today, driving, the car stalled again. The issue has not been fixed with the software update. Again, after stalling, the car needed to be put in park and started again. This took a few minutes. I was in traffic, and numerous cars behind me honked and were frustrated. A few weeks ago, we drove the car on a very slow, crowded freeway. I was extremely concerned the same thing would happen. I have three teen drivers. We were so concerned about this issue that we purchased a new car for them (we would not have otherwise). This cost us a significant amount of money. I am anxious each time I drive our Pilot. I am concerned that some day someone will rear end me, or I will encounter road rage over not being able to move when cars are lined up behind me. Please, please require Honda to deactivate the auto idle feature or recall this vehicle. I do not feel comfortable selling it to someone else, but really don't want to drive it. Thank you.

At 86k miles, the engine lost all power and abruptly slowed the vehicle with fast moving cars behind. Vehicle eventually stalled in the middle of the intersection. The car has always made a slight ticking noise, but on this drive, it rapidly worsened before stalling. Cars traveling behind could have crashed into the rear of the vehicle, or we could have been broad sided while stuck in the intersection. The dealership inspected the car and said the crankshaft bearing is bad and the whole engine needs to be replaced. They determined this purely by sound. They did not do any other inspection of the engine or oil. This leads me to believe this is a known and common problem that put my family in danger. I now have a used engine installed, and will likely be experiencing this same situation in the near future after reading so many others with this engine having the same problem.

**Description of the Problem:** I am experiencing significant engine issues with my 2016 Honda Pilot that seem consistent with the problems described in the recent connecting rod bearing recall, yet my vehicle is not included in the current recall. **Component/System Failed:** - The component that appears to have failed is the connecting rod bearings within the engine. - The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. **Safety Risk:** - Persistent rattling and knocking noises from the engine area indicate potential connecting rod bearing wear, posing a significant safety risk. If the connecting rod bearing fails, it can cause the engine to seize, leading to a sudden loss of power while driving, which could result in an accident. **Reproduction/Confirmation:** - I have reported these issues to the Honda dealership multiple times. Despite my concerns and detailed descriptions of the symptoms, the dealership has been unable to diagnose the problem definitively. - The problem has not been conclusively reproduced or confirmed by the dealer due to the vehicle not being included in the recall. **Inspections:** - Inspected by Honda dealership multiple times, but the issue was not confirmed due to VIN exclusion from the recall. **Warning Lamps/Messages:** - No warning lamps or messages. 2016 Honda Pilot EX with 131,000 miles - Connector Rod Issue On [XXX] while driving (40 mph) I heard a loud noise in the engine. The engine then proceeded to smoke profusely that I thought it was on fire. I immediately pulled the car over to the side of the road and shut the engine off while smoke filled the area. After a quick investigation with police who stopped to assist I realized ALL the engine oil leaked all over the road. The car was then towed to Clinton Honda in Annandale, New Jersey where after their mechanics performed a diagnostic it was determined the "Connector Rod" broke and went through the engine block. Clinton Honda informed me it would require a new motor ($5k) and labor ($4.5k) to resolve the issue. Since it was no longer under normal / extended warranty Clinton Honda was unwilling to repair the vehicle at their expense. I then proceeded to research the issue on the internet and discovered Honda did issue a Recall for this problem. However, my VIN did not fall within the numbers identified on the Recall. After doing a little more research I discovered that numerous Pilot owners experienced the same issue but their cars didn't fall within the impacted VINs on the recall and Honda Corporation did nothing to assist. Clearly Honda Corporation dropped the ball in accurately identifying the affected cars. On Friday, July 19, 2024 I filed a complaint with Honda Corporation to assist with the matter, but I am not very hopeful that they will do anything for me eit

On July 11, my engine failed on my 2016 Honda Pilot EX-L AWD. My car has 95,000 miles. I had no warning lights or messages prior to complete failure. While driving, out of the blue, the engine started to make rattling noises and sounded horrible. When I was trying to accelerate and merge onto the interstate there was no get up and go. It was very scary for my daughter and I. I immediately got off the highway as soon as I could and approximately 10 minutes later the car stalled out on the side of the road. I had it towed to the Valley Honda dealership where I bought it and have done ALL my regular and recommended maintenance. They diagnosed that the rod bearing broke in cylinder 6. My car is still currently at the Valley Honda dealership.

I have a 2016 Pilot Touring that is giving me a perplexing problem. After having the audio system turned on for a few minutes (regardless of whether the car engine is on or off), I start hearing static noise - faintly at first, then it builds louder and louder until it overcomes whatever I was listening to. It happens whether I am listing to radio, iPod, Bluetooth, or phone. Doesn't matter whether I am listening to music, podcast, or audiobook. The static is in front and rear, left and right. It gets so loud that finally there is no way to hear anything else. My mechanic said could be make a fire because the fan is not working to make radio works good.and you know radio is very important to every cars.

With no prior warning while driving on the freeway, two warning messages appeared, Emission systems malfunction and transmission system malfunction.” At the same time the D started to blink. We started to lose power to the wheels. Luckily we made it to an off ramp. If this had happened someplace else it could have caused a major accident. We had to have it towed to the Honda dealer. It was caused by a rear bank spool valve failure.

July 2022, my wife was in a parking space. She placed the vehicle in reverse and backed out of the parking space. She braked to stop, placed the vehicle in drive and pressed the accelerator. Immediately the car shut off in the middle of the parking lot and the engine light came on. Some strangers helped her push the car out of the way of traffic. She thought the battery died so called USAA and they sent out roadside assistance who tried to jumpstart the battery but it didn't work. The car was towed to the closest Honda dealership and after 30 minutes told us the engine seized. When we asked how that happened, they said they didn't know. Then they tried to buy the car from us , gave us a preprinted buyback flyer and tried to hard sell us into buying a new car. We left and towed it to the Honda dealership where we originally purchased it. They tried to do a full diagnostic, but could not even get into the major components of the engine because it was all seized up, and told us that it would require a new engine. When I asked how this happened, the service manager said neither he nor the mechanic could tell us why or how. They told us to buy a rebuilt engine so we did and paid $8736.80. July 2024, and a friend told me about recall 23V-751. I immediately visited our Honda dealership who told us to open a refund claim with American Honda. American Honda (case#14788790) initially told us our vehicle didn't qualify because its production date was 6/17/2016. We emailed docs/pictures

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact's wife pulled over at a gas station and had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic, who referred the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V751000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the engine failed due to connecting rod bearing wear. The failure mileage was approximately 134,000.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
