The Tailgate Control Module failed due to water getting in to it from normal rain. There seems to be a leak in the seam and caused the failure. I took it to the shop and confirmed the failure, purchased a new control module and replaced the faulty one. I opened up the faulty one and it had water damage inside.

Engine damage from connecting rod bearing wear. The dealer inspected the vehicle. The dealer confirmed that the damage was caused by a connecting rod bearing. The engine had to be replaced. I was told by the dealer that the VIN did not fall within the recall range. Therefore, I had to pay for the engine replacement myself. The engine damage was the same as the NHTSA ID Number: 23V751000 recall.

My vehicle stalls when I turn left or right from a stop light or sign. It’s incredibly dangerous especially when I have my kids in the van with me. We’ve taken it to the Honda dealer for repair and they’ve done work but the issue has not been resolved. I’ve seen countless forums of people with this year make and model who have had the same issue. I don’t know why there’s been no recall but someone is going to get seriously hurt if this issue is not resolved.

Camera/Honda Sensing failure (U3000-49 code), causing loss of safety features like adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, collision mitigation

Forward Collision Avoidance › Adaptive Cruise Control
Filed Dec 14, 2025FL

The front-facing camera responsible for detecting surrounding traffic is malfunctioning, which in turn compromises several critical safety systems. These include adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning. All of these features depend on the proper functioning of this camera. The vehicle has never been involved in a collision, and the camera was neither abused nor damaged. The failure occurred suddenly and without warning, triggering multiple warning lights on the dashboard. While the vehicle remains operable, all Advanced Driver Assistance Systems are currently disabled. It is my contention that Honda has engineered a defective camera system that requires a substantial out-of-pocket expense for vehicle owners to repair. I believe this cost should be borne by Honda, not the consumer. Accordingly, I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate this issue and require Honda to implement a recall that permanently addresses the problem.

The Infotainment Display has been malfunctioning. The display goes black and the back-up camera is not available. On the night of December 12, 2025, we were driving the car on the highway and the screen flickered in and out and then went black and so did the dashboard display. This was very scary as the entire car went dark and we were driving blindly on the highway. It appears that all 2018 Honda Odysseys have a recall for the Infotainment electrical system except for the Elite model that we purchased. I called the dealer last week and was told no recall available and we will need to pay the $179 diagnostic fee plus the cost to repair which will be significant. We will take the car in this week as the car cannot be driven safely without full dashboard and backup camera display.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving 60-62 MPH, there was an abnormal sound coming from the front of the vehicle, and the vehicle lost drive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to Tire Choice Auto Service Centers, where it was diagnosed and determined that one of the engine banks had failed. The mechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced with a used or brand-new engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V751000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the VIN was not included. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that he would receive a call back later. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that a case would be filed, and the contact would receive a call back later. The failure mileage was approximately 132,000.

Forward Collision Avoidance › Automatic Emergency Braking
Filed Nov 20, 2025VA

Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning systems stopped working simultaneously without warning. Upon further investigation, failure of the forward-facing camera is the likely root cause. Based on conversations in internet discussion forums [XXX] , [XXX] ), this is a common failure. There was a recall for the Odyssey to fix a wiring harness issue that could affect the back-up camera. I believe loss of the Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning systems is much more serious, with potentially catastrophic consequences. Since evidence suggests failure of the forward-facing camera happens frequently, I believe this issue should be treated with the same gravity as the back-up camera and a recall should be issued. While on a road trip our vehicle began to run louder, same shifting, same gas mileage but louder especially under acceleration. There was no warning and luckily we made it home only to find out it was the High Pressure Fuel Pump in the engine bay that was failing. We had the previous Fuel Pump Recall completed but now at ~82,000 miles the HPFP goes out, these usually last much longer. Took to an independent shop who diagnosed and fixed problem resolved but said we could have easily been stranded or worse the hose with fuel that was violently pulsating in the engine bay could have come unattached and fuel could leak on the hot engine.

Filed Nov 8, 2025VA

Summary: Engine seized due to internal bearing failure with metal shavings found in oil filter. Full Description: My 2018 Honda Odyssey experienced a sudden engine failure around 116,500 miles. The dealer confirmed the engine is seized and showed significant metal shavings in the oil filter and pan. I have performed all maintenance according to Honda’s recommended schedule using the correct oil and filters. Honda corporate denied assistance based solely on mileage, even though this issue matches symptoms described in current NHTSA investigation PE25-001 (connecting rod bearing failure in Honda 3.5L V6 engines). There were no prior warnings other than a brief check-engine light and rough running before the engine locked up. The vehicle was in motion at the time and could have caused a hazardous stall, serious injury, or death. Given that Honda has issued recalls for similar rod bearing defects in other model years (2015–2020) and this failure mode presents a clear safety risk (loss of power, engine seizure), I request NHTSA include my case in its investigation and compel Honda to extend recall coverage to 2018 Odyssey owners. I can provide dealer diagnostic reports, photos of the oil filter debris, and all maintenance records if needed.

The infotainment center has completely failed. It began with sporadic shutting off and then restarting of the infotainment system as if a wire or connector were loose, along with popping sounds until the unit no longer turns on and appears to have completely failed. This effects ability of back up camera to function because the screen no longer works. There appears to be a recall of other Honda vehicles needing new wire connectors for a similar problem but it does not seem to include this vehicle.

Suddenly one day in the morning taking my car from my garage, all alarms in my board turned on and stopped working: Automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning, forward and collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keeping assistance and rear cross traffic warning. I bring my car to the McLarty Honda service in Little Rock, AR. After calibration showed that I need a new multipurpose camera code U 3000-49. This is major concern for me. My van is in perfect shape, only 7 years old not so many miles. Doing some research sounds like this is an issue with Honda vehicles. My neighborhood is full of kids ( I have 3 kids too)with these large vehicles you can find a lot of blinds spots and these features help to keep everybody safe. I believe this a safety issue that need to be recalled in Honda's cars.

The windshield monocular camera is completely non functional causing several dashboard errors to appear. It very disheartening as this is such a known issue within the Honda Odyssey community and very expensive to replace and get calibrated after replacement. This should be recalled since so many are having this issue. Clearly this is a fault of Honda. It seems that the camera can get too hot being in the windshield and just doesn't work. A big reason why I wanted this vehicle was because of these sensors. Now I can't use them.

It's the overheating of the camera and start to malfunction, causing all the warning systems lights to illuminate. A lots of people and families who have owned or currently owns HONDA ODYSSEYS minivans have either faced this problem in the past or having it more commonly now. Due to the malfunction caused by the FAILED MONOCULAR CAMERA, it tends to automatically disables the Lane assist function, Engine light comes on, Cruise control get disabled and two other warning comes on the dash. T approximately 105 000 miles, while driving my 2018 Honda Odyssey, multiple advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) malfunctioned simultaneously. The following warning lights and messages appeared on the dashboard: LKAS (Lane Keeping Assist System) ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) Auto High-Beam Headlights Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation This occurred without any prior symptoms, and the systems have remained nonfunctional since the initial incident. I did not observe any physical damage, sensor obstruction, or weather-related cause at the time. The car was in regular use and had not recently undergone service or modification. Safety Concern: These systems are critical to safe vehicle operation — especially at highway speeds — and are part of the vehicle’s integrated safety design. Their sudden failure without clear cause presents a serious safety concern for the driver, passengers, and others on the road. Troubleshooting / Diagnosis So Far: Battery is original and may be aging, but the issue persisted after a jumpstart. No recent accidents or damage. Online research shows that many other 2018–2020 Odyssey owners have reported similar simultaneous system failures, which may indicate a pattern or a design flaw. Request for Action: I respectfully request the following: That Honda investigate this incident and advise if it is part of a known issue or Technical Service Bulletin (TSB). If applicable, provide warranty or goodwill coverage for diagnosis

Short Summary (for “Briefly Describe the Problem”) Sudden catastrophic engine failure — engine threw a rod at ~85,000 miles despite proper maintenance and fluid levels. Detailed Description (for “Provide Details of the Incident”) While driving, the vehicle began making a loud noise similar to a helicopter taking off. I immediately took it to a certified mechanic, who diagnosed that the engine had “thrown a rod,” requiring a full engine replacement. The vehicle has approximately 90,000 miles, has been regularly serviced per manufacturer recommendations, and all fluids were at proper levels at the time of failure. There were no warning lights or prior signs of mechanical issues. My mechanic and I contacted Honda to determine if NHTSA Recall 23V-751 applied to my vehicle; Honda confirmed it did not. Despite this, the symptoms appear consistent with known defects covered by that recall. Honda has declined to provide assistance or repair. The sudden and complete engine failure under normal driving conditions, despite proper maintenance, suggests a potential manufacturing or design defect that poses a serious safety risk.

Tuesday, September 30 at 8:07 PM I was merging onto the interstate after work and my car would not accelerate properly to allow me to merge with the traffic. This happens way more than it should. Since I got this vehicle it has been doing this and scaring my entire family every time. It happens in car line. It happens when i am already driving with traffic on the interstate and when i try to pass a slow car my car will sometimes not accelerate due to the problematic recall issue that these 2018 9 speed hondas are known for. It puts me in a very scary situation and I dont know what else to do about it.

Today I was driving on my road and there are small hills. I was going around a curve i take every single morning and my car kicks really hard as if it is having trouble changing gears. sometimes it makes loud noise. This has been happening for years now and Honda is not addressing it. There is an issue with the 9 speed transmission in these vehicles that have been dealing with recalls. This makes driving scary and my kids are now scared to drive to school in my vehicle. It needs to be addressed as my family is now noticing how much honda has put us in danger knowing these recalls were not really taken seriously.

We purchased our 2018 Honda Odyssey in January of 2024. Since we purchased the car, it regularly hesitates from the stopped position. This regularly yet intermittently causes a safety hazard when turning right into traffic or making a left turn because the acceleration does not work and feels as if it is failing for 2-4 seconds. There is a recall with other models that are the same year and close to with similar issues however ours is not included. I have now reported it to the dealership multiple times and am told they cannot replicate it so they can't help me. I was also told that there is a lag with this engine which causes teh delay but they have no concern. This causes performance issues, and puts me in a precaious situation oten when making a left turn or trying to cross multiple lanes of traffic. This issue really needs to be fixed and covered.

Like many other people on the [XXX] forums, our Honda Odyssey has a water leak that dripped onto the Tailgate Control Module, causing it to corrode and stop working. Now, our tailgate door will not open or close electrically, nor even manually using the handle outside. We have to crawl through the vehicle into the trunk, open a trim piece with a screwdriver, and stick our finger into the mechanical parts to disengage the latch to allow the door to open. Safety issues: 1) It's hard to know whether the door is fully closed and latched, so it could pop open while driving. 2) In the event of a car crash or other emergency, we may need to rely on that tailgate door being operational, so it being jammed by a widespread and known problem seems like a predictable life threatening issue.
