My 2018 Honda Odyssey with just under 59,000 miles is showing the following warnings: - ACC - Adaptive Cruise Control Problem - Collision Mitigation System Problem - Auto High-Beam Problem - Road Departure Mitigation System Problem - Lane Keep Assist Problem. Using a code scanner, the ECU reports error U3000-49, which seems related to the Multi-Purpose Camera Unit used for all these functions. Given that this camera is used in the various safety features listed above, the current condition presents an unsafe condition for my vehicle, which has less than 59,000 miles of being driven.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would hesitate upon depression of the accelerator pedal as the check engine and several other various warning messages appear on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for service; however, the dealer was unable to diagnose or duplicate the failure. The contact then stated that while driving at 70 MPH, the vehicle suddenly downshifted and failed to shift out of neutral(N). The contact pulled over and attempted to correct the failure; however, the vehicle shut off. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer where the diagnosed the vehicle with a failed torque converter and transmission. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was given a case number. The vehicle remained in the dealer's possession and was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

I own a 2018 Honda Odyssey 3.5L V6 and while my wife and 9 year old daughter were driving down the highway at 70mph that car decided to throw a rod throw the bottom of the motor leaving my family stranded on the roadside with no motor oil left in the car. This is a known issue for the 2018 Honda Odyssey but only for certain VIN numbers. I think it's pretty clear from all of the online complaints from this same year that it's not only those VIN numbers. We have always replaced the oil at 3,500 miles with Mobile 1 syntenic 0w-20 and always check the oil level to make sure none is missing. For the car to just throw a rod at 157k miles is pretty concerning as this will require a entire engine replacement out of pocket cost as Honda will not take ownership of this even though this year and model is known to have issues. I would like to see more VIN numbers added to their recall because this isn't fair to the people who buy a car for reliability and are left stranded on the roadside for a known issue they are not being forced to stand behind and make right. I was travelling on a two lane surface road with a speed of 45 mph, travelling at or below posted speed and just starting to slow to make a right hand turn when I encountered / wandered over the solid white line into a pothole at the edge of the road where there is no shoulder. Airbags on the passenger side including the sidecurtain and airbag inside the passenger seat deployed instantly. There was no collision and no deployment of the front passenger airbag or any other bags in the vehicle. There was an immediate call from Honda regarding the airbag deployment along with an automated notification to local police. Police in [XXX] responded and made a report and created a case number: #[XXX] I had a passenger in the front seat at the time who received a facial laceration, bruises to the right arm and hip. This is part of a known recall for this model and year of vehicle. Police and local dealership ( Casey Honda of XXX [XXX] ) have both confirmed visually that the airbags have deployed. No warnings, lights preceded the event. I just received the letter in the last few days regarding the recall. Honda has issued a case number for the incident: #[XXX]. I will be following up Honda for an inspection of other accident sensor and systems for safety which can be affected by the deployment. COMPONENT: Power Liftgate Control Module (PTG module). Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. WHAT HAPPENED: On approximately April 7, 2026, while driving in rain, a "Power Tailgate Problem" warning appeared on the instrument cluster. Following that event, all powered liftgate operation became permanently inoperable — interior button, exterior button, and key fob all failed. CAUSE: An authorized Honda dealer confirmed in writing (service invoice, May 1, 2026): "Power Liftgate Control Unit has corrosion from water leak." The water intrusion originates from defective factory polyurethane seam sealer on the rear drip rail — a known manufacturing defect on 2018-2019 Odysseys documented in Honda TSB MC-10152401. SAFETY RISK: The same water intrusion that destroys the PTG module is documented to cause the liftgate to open unexpectedly while driving, posing a direct hazard to occupants and other motorists. NHTSA is already investigating this issue across 2018-2022 Odysseys. WARNING SYMPTOMS: "Power Tailgate Problem" warning on instrument panel cluster appeared during rain exposure prior to full failure. MANUFACTURER RESPONSE: American Honda Motor Co. declined to cover the repair under goodwill despite the dealer-confirmed defect, an active TSB, and an ongoing class action lawsuit (2018-2021 Odysseys) for this exact issue. Honda has not issued a recall. Estimated repair cost: $691 (module) plus body seam repair.

While the vehicle is in motion, it is loudly beeping that there is a problem with the rear tailgate and that it is open when it is closed. This is due to manufacturing defect wherein water is getting into the tailgate control module and ruining the electronics. This is making the tailgate unusable as it will not open and just reads off the error message. This is a well documented issue all over the internet on these vans and Honda should recall the vehicles to fix this.

Water is leaking through back tailgate every time it rains. Water pools on the back floor and gets into the tailgate control unit. As a result, mold has grown on the floors and water has gotten into the power tailgate control unit causing my tailgate to stop opening and propping up (I have to manually hold the heavy door while lifting items out). This has caused electrical problems with cruise control and several lights blinking on and off my dashboard throughout the duration while driving. I have had the engine and transmission all tested and everything is working properly in that regard. The conclusion is that these electrical malfunctions are due to water damage. I have already had the control unit replaced once a year ago.

This has been an ongoing issue with the sensors on the sliding door. When closing the door, it would start to close half way, then opens. This makes it really unsafe for children or anyone sitting next to the door as it would open unexpectedly or not close all the way without having to physically pull the door to close. When walking away from the vehicle, sometimes the car would lock automatically (as it should) but there are also times where the door would automatically open when walking away and things has been stolen from the vehicle because of it. The sensors on these sliding doors has been a real safety issue.

My car has started breaking randomly without reason. Just a few days ago it slammed on the brakes. I was driving on the interstate and went around a bend, and my car slammed on the breaks. I. Talking from 70- 5mph in seconds. I didn't have time to do anything. Nothing in front of me, nothing on the side. The car behind me had to swerve into the median to avoid hitting me. My car almost caused an accident. Im honestly afraid to drive it. Im not sure if the radar system is an issue in other Hondas, but if i was in an accident it would have been my fault. If the person behind me wasn't paying attention my children could have been seriously injured or worse. Please look into this issue. Its more dangerous than the other recalls.

My 2018 Honda Odyssey began exhibiting intermittent acceleration lag several years before the repair, and the condition progressively worsened. At the time of repair, the vehicle had 68,957 miles. The safety concern occurs when accelerating from a stop, such as at a red light, stop sign, or when merging into traffic. I depress the accelerator normally and the vehicle does not respond. There is a delay where the engine and transmission fail to engage, leaving the vehicle stationary while surrounding traffic begins to move. To compensate, I must press the accelerator further. When the vehicle finally responds, it does so abruptly, causing a sudden surge of acceleration. This creates two safety hazards: (1) loss of control due to the unexpected “kick” when power finally engages, and (2) increased risk of collision when attempting to merge or cross traffic, because the vehicle does not accelerate when expected. I have been honked at by other drivers and have experienced near‑miss situations because the vehicle failed to move when it should have. Owner forums show many similar reports from other ~2018 Odyssey owners describing the same acceleration lag and abrupt engagement. Based on these reports, the commonly recommended fix is a throttle body cleaning and a transmission “teach‑in” procedure. An authorized Honda dealership performed these procedures on my vehicle at my expense (approximately $500–$550). These procedures are not listed in Honda’s factory maintenance schedule, yet

On April 20, 2026, at approximately 12:00 pm. I was driving my 2018 Honda Odyssey (VIN [XXX] ) southbound on [XXX] , approximately 3 miles north of the junction of [XXX] and [XXX] . I was traveling at approximately 30 mph. The vehicle struck a pothole in the road. Immediately upon impact, the passenger-side curtain airbag deployed with a loud report that I described as sounding like a gunshot next to my right ear. There was no collision with another vehicle or object, and no warning of any kind preceded the deployment. I was startled by the sudden deployment and noise, and the vehicle briefly swerved before I regained control. The deployed passenger-side curtain airbag completely obstructed my visibility through the passenger-side and right-rear windows. The road at that location runs along a narrow embankment with no shoulder, so I was unable to safely pull over. I had to continue driving approximately 3 to 4 miles with severely compromised visibility until I reached a safe location to park near the 9W and 340 junction. I was the sole occupant at the time of the incident. The curtain airbag deployed directly adjacent to my child’s car seat, which was installed in the rear passenger-side seat. My child was not in the vehicle at the time. Given the force and location of the deployment, a child seated in that position could have been seriously injured. The car will shut off and put you into to neutral while you try and pull over to the side of the road without being hit. It happens randomly and without rhyme or reason. After it shuts off codes are thrown such as brake failure, emissions failure, hill assist failure, steering failure, and lane assist failure. The car will be really hard to restart and if eventually will and then everything will disappear and go back to normal. Codes leave and car drives fine until it messes up again. In the afternoon hours of [XXX]; my wife, 2 children and I were traveling away from Pageland, SC on [XXX] . My wife was driving the vehicle and hit a pothole on right side of our lane. This caused both driver and passenger side curtain airbags to deploy. Upon exiting the vehicle no visible damage was found other than a leaky passenger side front tire. This incident jeopardized the safety of everyone in our vehicle due to the powder or smoke that comes out causing a visual obstruction of the road, and the sudden unexpected deployment that scared my wife at the exit of a curve. Thankfully, she kept control of the vehicle and did not collide or wreck in to anything. I still called for the North Carolina Highway Patrol due to the incident that happened. The Trooper explained to us that he could not do a wreck report because, there was no collision. He did however do something different and provided us with a copy of it. Due to this, the insurance company totaled the vehicle and forced us to find a different vehicle. I am unsure if this vehicle was inspected afterwards by anyone other than the insurance company. Prior to this incident there were no warning lights or messages stating there was a problem. After the incident, several messages popped on the screen referencing several safety systems on the vehicle and the tire pressure system on the passenger side front tire. Our 2018 Honda Odyssey repeatedly and without warning completely loses acceleration power, creating extremely dangerous driving conditions. This occurs in two distinct situations:(1)while driving at highway speeds when attempting to change lanes or accelerate, and(2)when stopped at a stop sign or intersection and pressing the gas to merge into or turn into traffic. In both situations, pressing the accelerator results in little to no response — the vehicle will roll but fails to accelerate as needed. These failures have placed our family in multiple life-threatening situations. On Interstate 285 in Atlanta, Georgia — one of the busiest and highest-speed highways in the country — our vehicle has failed to accelerate during lane changes on multiple occasions, nearly causing serious accidents. Most recently, within the past week, my husband was driving on I-285 when he pressed the accelerator and the vehicle had absolutely zero acceleration response. He narrowly avoided a collision. We have also experienced complete loss of acceleration when turning from a stop sign into traffic and when merging — situations where immediate acceleration is critical to safety. The vehicle lags for several seconds before any power is delivered to the wheels, leaving us dangerously exposed in oncoming traffic. All manufacturer recalls have been completed, including the fuel pump recall. The problem persists and has not been resolved by any dealer service or recall repair performed to date. We are aw

While driving on a clear road, with or without heavy traffic, the collision mitigation warning shows up on the dashboard display. Sometimes the warning for the collision system goes off and the system tries to brake and jerk the wheel. If I have the wheel firmly I can correct it and it resolves. It can happen on a clear road with no one around or in heavy traffic. Yesterday it happened in a single lane with barriers on both sides, a road around Logan Airport in Boston, with no vehicles ahead of me. The car tried to steer me into the barrier. I was doing less than 25 MPH. The warning had been going off for a while but now that the steering and braking are involved it’s much more serious. I reported it to the dealer. They said they did a system check and couldn’t find a fault. The braking and steering problem first occurred about a month ago. The warning by itself has been happening intermittently for over a year. This happens even when the collision mitigation system is turned OFF. This is a terribly unsafe issue. If my wife had been driving I don’t know if she could have corrected. PLEASE ACT AND ISSUE A RECALL!

I am reporting a dangerous and recurring transmission defect in my 2018 Honda Odyssey equipped with the ZF 9-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle experiences sudden and unpredictable delayed acceleration, particularly at low speeds. When attempting to accelerate from a complete stop or at speeds below 25 mph, the transmission fails to engage properly, leaving the vehicle stranded in the middle of traffic with no power response for several seconds. This creates an extreme safety hazard, as other vehicles may collide with mine while I wait for the transmission to respond. The condition is intermittent and unpredictable, making it impossible to anticipate when it will occur. It happens most frequently when accelerating from intersections, merging into traffic, or navigating through slow-moving areas. Honda has acknowledged this defect through TSB 19-124 (issued December 2019), which addresses harsh and jerky upshifts in 2018–2019 Odysseys with the 9-speed transmission. However, the TSB does not fully resolve the issue. A class action lawsuit [XXX] et al. v. American Honda Motor Co., Case No. 5:23-cv-05011-BLF, N.D. [XXX] ) is currently pending for this exact defect. I am requesting that NHTSA open a formal investigation and consider issuing a safety recall, as the delayed acceleration constitutes a serious risk of collision and injury.
