On at least 5 different instances (possibly one or two more) as I was turning and slowing down either to park in a parking space or else backing slowly out of a parking place, my car seemed to jump (or jolt) and then accelerate out of my control. The brakes did not work. The most recent incident (after a year or so of no problems) was on [XXX] when the car accelerated as I was pulling into a parking space, crashed into a woody bush, and destroyed it and came to a stop—possibly because I got the brakes to work though I was fairly panicked so I don’t remember—so it did not take out the low fence behind it though I may have hit it. I was terrified that I would hit a woman coming out of the bank as I didn’t know how to get the car to stop. She saw what happened and asked if I was okay. I have taken the car to the Honda dealer in Fairfax, Virginia every time this happened in the past but was told either that my foot must have been on the accelerator or else the technician was unable to duplicate the incident and therefore they could do nothing. After the last incident I took the car to Honda of Chantilly, Virginia where a technician has been looking at it since yesterday so it is still there. If they do not find the cause of this random, erratic sudden acceleration I am going to sell the car (probably back to Honda) because I do not believe it is safe to drive. My family and I were driving down the road, in a gentle left hand turn when the emergency braking system suddenly activated, and our best guess is that it was due to a car well off the road in a parking lot at the same point. A tractor trailer, loaded heavily with electrical transformers was just behind us, and if not for the driver of the truck paying attention we might not all be here today. This has happened many times in other situations, sometimes maybe a dip in the road, sometimes and exit ramp will confuse it, and sometimes I couldn't even guess. So far none have been too bad, but this one was too close. I have attempted to talk to the dealership about it, but they aren't calling me back. I've asked for them to disable the system entirely. There were no warning messages aside from the normal BRAKE message it shows when it activates. In the manual for the car they went so far as to list scenarios where the system might malfunction, but the only way to turn it off involves remembering to bold the button every time you start it up, and hope you don't forget. My child was set to take this car when they start driving, but as is I don't want to drive it, let alone anyone else.
I was notified of the recall in January 2024, have scheduled appointments at Coggin HONDA of Orlando twice brought the vehicle in and after waiting they did not have the part and I was told to come back and or they would call me when the part came in and or save a part for me and contact me to come in, none of that has happened. Coggin HONDA has failed to fix the issue twice but is still sending me texts to bring the vehicle again but there is no promise they will have the part yet again thus wasting my time and not fixing the issue. It is well past the 60-day mark of when I was informed of the recall needed on my vehicle. When I questioned the service associate stating the issue is if I'm in an accident it could cause a car fire, he replied "oh you should be fine, I wouldn't worry about it"...........yet Honda has a recall for this reason. My vehicle has not had the recall done due to their lack of proper service and or competence when a customer makes a scheduled appointment with them now on more than 2 occasions. Will never buy another vehicle from this location again.

I have been trying to get Honda to perform the safety recall since January 2024 (NHTSA Recall Number 23V-844). The dealer (Parker Johnstone's Wilsonville Honda) says the parts are unavailable. American Honda Motor Company customer service was unhelpful and told me to contact a dealer. Honda case #[XXX]. While driving straight at any speed (not just on the highway), if a slight steer angle is input (usually to the left) it takes more than the expected amount of effort to return to center. It feels like the steering is sticking in place. This already leads to slight overcorrections during normal lane keeping, and if the problem worsens I can see how it might lead to a wreck. This has been an ongoing issue since about 10,000 miles. 2021 CR-V Hybrid EX.

Hello, I am trying to fix the recalled parts of my car. I contacted Honda dealership where I bought my car, Honda Piazza of Limerick. They say they do not have the parts available, and that I should look elsewhere for the parts. What can I do? This has happened twice at highway speeds only. Check engine light comes on and car dies. After pulling to side, car is turned off and then runs again when turned back on. This is a huge safety hazard at highway speed in traffic, with the instant deceleration and the possibility of being rear ended. The car was inspected by Honda and Motorwerks Barrington without them being able to identify any issue. As stated, this has happened twice and there appear to be similar issues posted throughout the internet of the exact same issue on these cars.
My vehicle suddenly stops without me pressing breaks or there being another vehicle in front of me . It’s unsafe and I’m afraid of getting rear ended
The contact owns a 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle decelerated unintendedly. After restarting the vehicle, the failure was corrected, and the vehicle operated normally. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who replaced the fuel line, but the failure persisted. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 15,000.
My vehicle on several occasions stalled and/or lost power. Stepped on the gas and no power. Both while using cruise control. One incident was not using cruise control.
On December 12, 2023 at 6:50 AM my Check Engine light came on while I was driving, the battery gauge went to two bars, and the car powered down on Route 24 (a state highway). I took it to the dealer later in the day and they could not find anything wrong. Unfortunately, this is the third time my car has powered down/gone into limp mode on a highway. On August 8th almost the exact same thing happened at almost the exact same spot on the highway (slightly uphill, a day after refueling). In August, Honda kept my car for a week to try to pinpoint the problem. There were no stored problem codes. The best guess of the dealer was some sort of engine misfire due to a fuel impurity. On October 12, 2022 I had the first power down experience on the NY Thruway. On that occasion, the temperature sensor malfunctioned (at least according to the messages and gauges). The dealer replaced the sensor.
Vehicle is 3,000 miles outside of warranty, and showed no signs of issues. Starting the car, the driver wheel was locked and all systems complaint of failure. The vehicle could start and drive but the driver wheel required all strength to turn. Taking the vehicle to a Honda Dealership they said the problem was a rack and pinion with an estimate of +$5,300 (not including taxes). This seems to be an abnormal type of repair so close out of warranty.
The vehicle check engine light flashes and vehicle proceeds to lose power on the freeway. The first time it happened, I was driving on the lane next to the fast lane during commute hours and I could not accelerate fast enough to reach the slow lane and pull over to the side. Luckily, a nice person slowed down enough for me to change lane. My husband took the car to a Honda service center and they found nothing wrong with. Then it happened 3 more times on the freeway and we took it back to the dealer. They performed some maintenance and returned the car back to us. Then it happened again and we took it back for service. Again they tried to do some repair and returned the car to us. After about a week, it happened again. As I was getting on the freeway with my children in the car, engine light starts flashing and I cannot accelerate. Each time we’ve had to pull over, shut the engine off, wait for a bit and start the engine again to get it going. At this point we are afraid to get on the freeway and we stay on the slow lane as much as possible. We’ve taken the car back to the shop for the same problem 4 times. We are still waiting for the shop to fix it.
The sunroof exploded in normal driving conditions and glass shattered into the cabin. There was no evidence of a rock or other debris shattering the glass. There is a class action lawsuit against honda regarding shattered sunroof and no recalls have been issued.
Everything good
The emergency braking system reacts unexpectedly and unnecessarily. I see there is an investigation for vehicles up to 2019, but my 2021 has done this at least a dozen times since new. My experience seems to indicate that it's often related to a shadow on the road. Could be an adjacent vehicle or simply a large tree or building. It can happen with an asphalt repair that is darker than the surrounding road or even a wet spot. It would also seem to be more likely to happen when driving towards the sunset or sunrise. It nearly caused me to get rear ended this weekend. It stabbed the brakes hard for a shadow on the road with vehicles behind me. Please extend the investigation to the rest of this vehicle's production.
First occurrence happened in October 2022 when I was on the freeway at speeds over 65mph. The vehicle suddenly lost speed, all dash lights came on, a loud helicopter like sound started and would not go more than 40mph. I was lucky enough to exit the freeway without causing a collision. Dealer could not duplicate the incident and no computer codes. Second time was almost identical to the first time and occurred approximately 6 months later. Dealer had vehicle for 3 days and could not duplicate problem. Very very unsafe!
I was driving on the highway at 65 mph when I suddenly felt a loss of power on in the car. I then saw the check engine light come on and my hybrid battery was almost discharged. I floored my foot to make sure but the car was still decelerating. I then pulled off the highway as safely as possible and shut off the car. When I turned the car back on, the check engine light was still on and the engine was rattling. I shut it off again and after turning it back on, it was perfectly normal. I took it to my local Honda dealer to check what happened and after they inspected and tested the car they said there were no codes on the computer of the car and that the car went into "safe mode." I have performed the appropriate maintenance on my CRV as per Honda's guidelines. I see that the NHTSA has an ongoing investigation on this issue on the CRV and I believe this incident pertains to that.
My hybrid vehicle lost speed on the highway while going approximately 60 mph. The engine light started blinking. The battery charge icon started decreasing. I was able to exit the highway and pull into a parking lot. After 20 minutes, my car turned on and the battery icon showed it was charged. I drove to the dealership and after having my vehicle in the shop for several days. I forwarded an article to my contact at the Honda dealership from Autoblog dated Dec. 7, 2022 about AWD Honda CR-V's loss of power. The article mentioned a "leaking differential." The dealership came back and said they couldn't find anything wrong.
The vehicle was parked, not running in a shopping center. The trunk was open and I was putting groceries into the trunk. The trunk started to close while I was leaning inside loading groceries. The trunk did reverse up only after it hit my back, quite hard. This has happened to me three times, each time injured a part of my body. No sounds were made to alert me the trunk was closing while leaning in it, I will be finally report this to Honda. No insurance claim has been made
I was going up foothills. The battery had 2 bars and a warning light came on next to the battery indicator. My car began having trouble accelerating and could not keep up with 55mph traffic. The diagnosis is that one of the cylinders misfired and I needed to replace the ignition coil. The car is in the dealer’s shop awaiting parts for repair. I am delivering the part tomorrow. I was 6mi outside town, 911 had some trouble locating me, my cell phone reception was unreliable, I could have been involved in a high speed accident.
The AWD warning lights illuminated about 40,000 miles during highway driving and has been on since. Honda dealership in Kingman AZ reported a Differential Temp Sensor(28650-RT4-003), sub harness(48320-STG-000) and differential fluid(08200-9007A) in need of replacement. They reported damage to the sensor (probably from pothole?) and said it doesn't require repair immediately and ordered a part. I understand that all wheel drive sensors help maintain proper traction in rain, snow/ice, sand etc. conditions which could cause braking issues. Paired with this model's tendency to brake suddenly without warning, I believe there is a safety issue .
The contact owns a 2021 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 57 MPH, the vehicle suddenly shut off causing the driver to lose control of the steering and crash into several rocks which caused the vehicle to rollover several times. During the incident the air bags deployed. The driver sustained an injured right leg, head, and chest injuries, the front passenger sustained a neck injury and the child seated in the rear passenger seat suffered a head injury. All occupants in the vehicle required medical treatment for their injuries. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was later towed to an undisclosed location and later deem destroyed. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were both notified of the failures. The contact indicated that prior to the incident the same failure had occurred on two other occasions and the vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to identify a problem. The failure mileage was 5,000. The contact stated that at the time of the second failure, the vehicle was travelling at about 15 mph and the mileage was approximately 31,000.
The car is less than 2 years old and needed complete rotor replacements due to brake pads sticking to calipers. No reason for this - pads sticking to calipers - to have occured. Car had normal driving and was parked in a garage. As well, brake fluid needed replacing a year earlier than scheduled. Again, no reason for this to have occured. Dealership could offer no explanation as to why the calipers/rotors failed and fluid was so poluted so early. After researching, it is clear that this car has issues with its braking system. I had to replace rotors and fluid at my own cost, though car is less than 2 years old. I have reported this to manufacturer, but have not recieved a response as of yet. There were also no warning lights to alert me that the brakes had failed, though the dealer says that there should have been. I have documentation of the repair.
On more than one occasion, the vehicles automatic emergency braking system engaged unexpectedly. This occurred when there was no obstruction in front of the vehicle.
2021 Honda CRV Hybrid. 11/9/22: When accelerating to merge onto a highway, moving at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle rapidly decelerated as driver tried to accelerate (went into limp mode), the check engine light came on and the engine made a continuous clattering sound. The vehicle would not go above 15 mph in 55-60 mph traffic. Driver put flashers on and drove 1/2 a mile to the first exit, lucky he could move to the right lane. Vehicle was driven 1.5 miles home at 15 mph and lower. Didn't drive car on 11/10/22. Car driven to dealership on 11/11/22 because there was no indication of anything wrong -- no sounds or dashboard lights or limp mode. Drove to dealership where a scan indicated engine misfire DTC: P0304 was stored in the system. Dealership cleared the system and could not recreate the incident after swapping spark plugs and coils and driving 163 miles over 3 days. Took car home on 11/15/22. Six days later, on 11/21/22, the same thing happened on the highway: as driver accelerated, the engine light came on and flashed and stayed flashing, the engine made vibrating noise, and lost acceleration (limp mode) down to 6 mph on the busy highway. Going 6 mph with flashers on, he was able to reach the ramp for the next exit and pull over on the shoulder. On the shoulder, driver made a video of the engine making clattering sounds and of the engine light flashing on the dashboard. He turned the car off, waited a few minutes, then turned the car back on. Everything seemed fine.
Automatic emergency brake activated and the vehicle came to a complete stop while approaching a railroad crossing. There was no traffic ahead. It was a clear day, around 8:45AM. There was no indication of a problem before or after the car stopped.
I was traveling about 17 MPH when my CRV braked suddenly to a stop on it's own. There was nothing in front of me. Thank goodness no one was behind me because the car stopped with no warning. I was also wearing my seatbelt, which was good because I was thrown forward. There was no prior warning and no lights or other indicators on now. After that the speakers made thudding sounds, were staticy and now the radio will not play. NOt sure what this has to do with the AEB system. The car still drives normal, but I am afraid it is going to happen again. I have made an appointment at the Honda Dealer for them to look at the CRV.
Driving on flat highway and the windshield cracked from the outside edge inwards. There was no impact of any object and windshield passes "ball point pen test". Dealer refuses to warranty repair. Vehicle is available for inspection. No warning signs although there are ongoing class action suits claiming defect in windshield support.
Vehicle will frequently brake at full capacity on its own for cars in the next lane of traffic. This has happened 3 times so far. All three times it was on a highway going at speeds of 60-70 mph. "BRAKE" flashes in big letters on the screen. There are no obstructions in front of me only in the lane next to me. Dealer informed me it is a known problem and there is no fix except to disable the safety features.
Vehicle will brake without application of the brake pedal when there is not an obstacle that requires automatic braking to avoid a collision. The vehicle will have “BRAKE” on the dash. This has occurred without anything in the lane in front of the occur and there have been several instances. The collision mitigation braking system is supposed is malfunctioning.
There have been several occurrences with my 2021 CRV hybrid where the car will start beeping and the word “brake” will flash on my instrument cluster for no reason at all. No cars in front of me at all. This has happened 40-50 times. However there are 4 occasions where the car actually braked suddenly and once to a complete stop and nearly caused a horrible accident. From 65mph to 0 like it thought there was something stopped right in front of me. Even though there were no cars in sight in either lane ahead of me. Luckily no one was right behind me, It could have been much worse. I want to just turn this feature off, and obviously it was a big selling point to me to buy the car so to have it actually cause safety issues instead of solve them is irritating to say the least.
2021 HONDA CR-V HYBRID. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO SOFTWARE ISSUES. THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE USING ACC THE VEHICLE WOULD BRAKE PREMATURELY. THE CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED THIS WOULD CAUSE A REAR-END COLLISION.
I attempted to park my vehicle. The brakes did not work they, seemed to have no pressure. The engine then accelerated. I did not press the gasoline pedal. The vehicle moved forward and it struck a wall. Damage to the radar system and front grille of vehicle. I took the vehicle to the dealership and all they did was zip tie a component that came loose from under the steering column and give me a referral to a body shop. As of this time the problem has not been reproduced and the vehicle has not been inspected. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. No warning lights or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.
As my wife and I were driving downtown at about 20 mph on a regular city street with no cars in front of us, the automatic breaking system suddenly beeped and slammed on the breaks, giving us whiplash. There was clearly some kind of failure in the collision mitigation breaking system. Previously, the orange "BREAK" light sometimes came on the dashboard if you got too close to the car in front but it was always accurate--there always was a car in front of us. But this time it was really startling because there was nothing in front of us and it almost caused an accident because the car behind us obviously wasn't expecting us to stop suddenly. We have a 2021 Honda CRV hybrid and have had no other problems with it. We haven't had any maintenance on it in besides a bit of standard care (oil change, tire rotation) so I assume whatever problem it has has been there since the purchase (we are the car's original owner). Overall it was quite worrying.
While driving on the highway, my Honda CR-V Hybrid flashed an error for "12 Volt Battery Charging System Problem." I was stunned to receive an error on a vehicle with less than 2000 miles, and while my passenger was attempting to assist me in determining what to do next, the vehicle began to slow on its own. I was able to engage my emergency flashers and pull to the shoulder before causing a collision. I turned the vehicle off, and it returned to normal operation. After I made it home safely, I contacted the Honda dealership via their website to schedule an appointment. After engaging with them through the chat feature, my contact information was taken for a return call to schedule an appointment for review and repair. I was never contacted by the dealership.
While driving on the highway, my vehicle flash an error "Check 12 Volt Charging System. Power Reduced." Having received this error a few months prior, I immediately moved to the shoulder to prevent a collision.
I was driving at about 60 mph on the highway with no cars anywhere near me, not using cruise control. I saw an orange “brake” warning light flash on my dashboard a few times and the car slowed a bit. I was startled and looked all around and saw the closest vehicle at least 1/4 mile ahead of me, with no brake lights on and not seeming to slow. I was concerned but didn’t know if I did something wrong, and have been watching for it since then but it has not repeated. I believe this incident took place about 10 days ago, on 2/16/22, around 11 a.m. I read an article from CNN this morning that said there is a recall for just this occurrence for two Honda models in the years 2017 through 2019, but my model is a 2021. I am concerned that it might cause an accident.
We were driving at about 45-50mph on a 4 lane road (2 lanes in each direction) when the car in front of us moved to the right side of the road (bike/turn lane) to make a right turn. There was enough room for the other car to safely turn right without stopping or slowing traffic. The 2021 Honda CRV Hybrid braked suddenly as if to avoid a high speed crash. The collision avoidance feature was on (the car was delivered with the feature activated and it was never turned off.) The car forcefully slammed on the brakes, seatbelts locked up and the driver felt a pop inside the left shoulder blade and neck pain; later in the day, the pain radiated throughout the left side of the back, up to the neck / base of skull and down past the waist. The passenger seatbelt also locked and there were no injuries to the passenger. No passengers or children were in the back seat. The sudden braking caused the car behind the Honda CRV to brake and swerve, but no accident occurred. The vehicle has not been inspected by the dealership or others. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. There were no warning lamps and no indication that this was going to occur. This is a serious safety issue and injuries occurred from a car safety feature when there was no imminent danger or collision that was actually needing to be avoided.
Good day, I bought my Honda CRV last summer. In October, I was driving on an on-ramp to the expressway and the hood flew open. I filed an insurance claim with Farmer's for the repairs. It was repaired to the original specs. I saw where other Honda models have been recalled for this issue. There was no reason for the hood to fly open, I had no recent needs to open the hood at the time. I thought it prudent to bring this to your attention in case the Honda CRV has the same type of hood as the other models recalled. I was fortunate the incident in October had no injuries and did not compromise safety for other travelers on the road. However, there may still be risk for another occurrence if it is the same problem as the other models. I appreciate any information or guidance that will help ensure my Honda is safe to drive. Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Hankook Kinergy GT 235 / 60 R 18 130H The driver's side front tire burst on 12/24/2021. The tire split, almost like a re-tread (see pictures). I suspect a sidewall structure/reinforcement failure. This could/should have caused a rollover like the tire failures and accidents of Ford Explorers and other light trucks/SUV's fitted with Firestone Radial ATX, ATX II, and Wilderness tires in the late 90's and early 2000's. Pacific Honda Dealer replaced the tire and disposed the detached and burst tire on 12/28/2021. When the tire burst on highway, I barely managed to pull over to the left side since it was pulling in various directions, so my safety was at risk. There was no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
