Defect. CERTAIN TRANSIT BUSES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 217, "BUS EMERGENCY EXITS AND WINDOW RETENTION AND RELEASE." THE HIGH-BACK SEATING PARTIALLY BLOCKS THE REAR EMERGENCY EXIT WINDOW.

Risk. A WINDOW MAY NOT OPEN AFTER APPLYING THE REQUIRED FORCES ALLOWING A PERSON TO ESCAPE IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJUURIES.

Remedy. DEALERS WILL HAVE THE REAR EMERGENCY EXIT WINDOW REPLACED WITH A SOLID REAR WINDOW, AND WILL HAVE AN EMERGENCY EXIT ROOF HATCH INSTALLED IN THE ROOF OF THE BUS TO MEET SAFETY STANDARD. THE RECALL BEGAN JANUARY 24, 2005. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT VSV GOSHEN AT 574-206-7025.

Reading this record

No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.

Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.

Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.
