I jumped in and turned the car on and started driving. Right away I noticed most of the warning lights were on. The first speed bump in the complex made me realize I had lost 80-90% of my brakes as if I had a broken brake line for example and steering was a little hard and pulling a bit to one side. I check underneath I did not have any leaks. I decided to take it to the Dealer to have it checked. Dealer said they were not able to find anything and cleared the codes. dash lights on: check engine lane depart drive assist ABS BRAKE

I was driving down the highway at approximately 70mph and the vehicle began to lose power. It was then apparent that the engine was no longer on as the screen read “press start” to restart engine or something like that. I was in the left hand lane and had to navigate through traffic without power to the right hand shoulder. I barely made it off the road before the car stopped moving entirely. I had purchased the car only 19 days prior. I have 3 children living at home and was very fortunate that none of them were in the car with me, I had no warning of the failure.
I saw a recall for the 6.2L GMC engine announced. I am wondering if its similar to the 5.3L GMC engine. I was on the way to canada from new jersey with my family where all of a sudden my car started shaking near rochester, i had asked and reported this to GMC and they said nothing they can do since it was out of warranty. I had to pay out of pocket for repair of my engine and it was a bent lifter on top of the piston. I am not sure how that happens. The dealership had indicated they are getting a lot of other vehicles with the same issue and engine problems Vehicle with a sticker price of 80k, then needing another 10k repair within 2 years of owning it.
As I was driving on the highway and the check engine light came on, few seconds later I started losing speed, I could not accelerate. The vehicle then put me into Neutral while I was still moving. I put my flashers on immediately as traffic was quickly coming up behind me. I was able to find a spot off the side of the highway to slowly pull over to. When I stopped it was still in Neutral. I put it into park. Engine was not running. I tried to start the engine again, but nothing would happen. Had to get a tow and have been told the motor needs replaced. The dealership has no timeline of when a motor will be available.
ENGINE FAILURE We were stranded on the side of the road on a trip back from Florida Vehicle had to be towed the a dealership back in Houston no warnings This is the second engine failure (original engine and the 1st replacement engine) basically we are on the 3rd engine in this vehicle.
Valve body needs replaced, been waiting over 10 weeks for replacement. Vehicle only has 28k miles and wouldn’t reverse or shift past 2nd gear.
While driving the transmission will slip/hard shift very aggressively causing the rear tires to lock up. This would happen at unpredictable speeds (anywhere between 10mph-65mph), this occurred for about 2 weeks before vehicle ever gave a code. VERY scary and dangerous especially if you are in traffic since it essentially "brake checks" those behind you. The last incident that finally provided a code occurred at 50 mph when the rear tires completely locked forcing the vehicle in park. Could no longer drive the vehicle after this. The error code states that a rear body valve is needed for the transmission which the dealer is unable to get and neither the dealer or manufacturer can provide any estimate of arrival. Has been in the shop for almost 2 months now waiting.
On 1/3/25 the engine in my 2022 GMC Yukon XL Denali started making knocking noise while driving and then it happened again when turning on the engine. The check engine light came on, so I had the vehicle towed to the nearest GM dealership. When the dealership drained the oil they found metal shavings in the oil. The vehicle had roughly 44,000 miles on it at the time. This put my family and young children at risk as they were in the vehicle when this happened.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over safely. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the main rod bearing had failed, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired after three months. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 48,044.
1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power while driving, which has been attributed to a blown fuse and an underlying engine failure. The dealership has confirmed that the engine needs to be repaired. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and is available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? My [XXX] son was driving the vehicle alone at night over a busy bridge when the car suddenly lost power without warning. He had to coast down the bridge in heavy traffic with limited control, putting himself and surrounding drivers at serious risk. Fortunately, he was able to pull over safely, but the situation could have easily led to a serious accident or injury. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, the vehicle was towed to the dealership, where the issue has been diagnosed. They confirmed that the engine is damaged and requires repair. They also identified that the initial trigger may have been a blown fuse, which led to the complete engine failure. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The vehicle is currently in the care of the dealership’s service department. It has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. No accident occurred, so no police report wa
Engine failure without any notice, loss of power, engine making extreme lifter noises
The check engine light would intermittently turn on since purchasing my brand new vehicle in 2022. The service center kept it for several weeks, but could not find a problem. They said it was a “bad batch of gas” the first time I brought it in. The second time they said it was an engine misfire. They said as long as the light flashes but doesn’t stay on, it is not concerning. March 13, 2025 as I was driving my car down the road my car suddenly shifted to neutral. I had to coast to the side of the road (with my children in the car). I turned my car off and it would not turn back on. I had it towed to the dealership and they said the engine had failed. They replaced it, but could not tell me if they replaced it with the same version engine or not. The dealership did not supply any paperwork of the repair when I picked up my vehicle.
Car consuming too much oil, engine oil very low every 2000 miles. GM claims that 2000 is acceptable but new oil should go to 4000 at the least. Will not do anything to the engine or pistons and claim that car has too many engine hours due to idling which I do not do. They are unwilling to fix this problem, been dealing with them for over a year and my warranty is about to expire. There are many complaints online about this same issue.
The 6.2 l98 engine has seized in my 2022 GMC Yukon XL Denali with under 50k miles. It has been sitting at a dealership waiting for a new engine sense February 13th 2025. It is still unknown to me when I will be getting a replacement engine.
Reported electrical issues beginning one month after purchasing the vehicle. I reported issues for the first year including the running boards not working, entertainment system not operating, hard engine restart/stalling and the reverse camera not engaging. February 2024 the car was driving down the highway and a loud noise began in the engine. Entire car stopped running. Placed in the shop for 29 days to replace the engine, battery, computer, and other items. The next day engine began to stall again. Monday at 10am the car stalled again and was unable to be turned back on. Car was then taken for another 15 days fuel injectors, spark plugs and other items changed. Again received the car back and had issues with stalling and engine revving issues. Turned into dealership and bought another GMC Yukon. GMC refused to admit an issue and refused to help. They only changed out the initial engine and paid for the rental. Car under full warranty for manufacturer plus maintained my extended warranty. Reported to BBB.
While driving in the left lane of the interstate at 70 mph, the engine abruptly shut off, shifting the car into neutral. The dashboard read start engine, which did not compute immediately. I quickly navigated to the right lane to assess the situation and eventually to the shoulder of the highway where I parked the vehicle. I was unable to to restart and had the vehicle towed to the dealership. It took ~6 hours for the Onstar tow service to arrive.
BATTERY: Vehicle died at highway speed 1/12/23 with 25,404 miles on it. Towed to dealership, battery died while driving. Vehicle would not start 12/01/24 at 88,013 miles, battery was dead. ENGINE: Reported engine knocking and high idle 1/30/23 with 26,608 miles on vehicle. In service department until 03/03/03 with no issues found. Took vehicle to another dealership service department 06/06/23 with engine knocking and high idle, no issues found. Received back 06/12/23. Filmed the engine noises and high idle on 06/22/23, engine light came on and returned to service department at 37,265 miles. Engine was replaced after a lengthy wait time for replacement. Cam and Lifters were the issue in original engine. Received vehicle back 08/30/23. MODULES: Reported the display changing 1/30/23 with 26,608 miles, service documents state related to telematics controls. They replaced the module. Vehicle had a delay in shifting, reported on 06/06/23 with 36, 303 miles. Transmission control module was out of calibration and was reprogrammed at a dealership service department. Vehicle shifted into neutral multiple times. Reported to service department 09/08/23 at 38,183 miles. The transfer case lost communication with the brake control module, but they started communicating again without repairs according the service invoice. Then there was a recall for the screen switching displays, which it has done the entire ownership, even after replacing the module. Turned into dealership for that recall,
On 3/21/2025 while in the middle lane of highway 290 my 2022 Yukon Denali xl started immediately decreasing in speed. The car went into neutral and I had no control of the acceleration or braking. Then the engine shut off. I wasn’t not able to get my car off of the freeway and had to wait over 1.5 hours to have it towed by GM. This is the second engine that has seized in the car. The car is still under warranty and had an extended warranty through gm as the engine seized and had to be replaced once already. Extremely dangerous
On [XXX] while driving my Yukon Denali XL it complexly shut off in the middle of [XXX] . I had my children with me and had to wait for almost an hour as police directed traffic around my vehicle until it could be towed. It just lost all abilities to accelerate, brake and steer. GM diagnosed that the engine seized and had to be replaced. this again happened on [XXX]. Gm has reported that the engine seized and has to be replaced again! Engine Failure (Engine Seizure) (Connecting Rod bearing Failure). Enige Failed on an interstate highway causing us to nearly be struck by traffic moving at a high rate of speed. Also, Engine failed on an extremely cold (-17) degree Minnesota Night. This cause extreme concern/anxiety with children in the car as we waited for recovery. Yes, the problem has been confirmed by a GMC dealership in Hudson WI. Yes, the vehicle component has been inspected by both GMC certified technicians as well as 3rd party warranty technicians. Zero warning lamps or messages prior to the failure.
Engine failure while driving on highway due to lifter failure. Vehicle had to be towed home and then to dealer. No signs of failure prior to it happening. No check engine light or messages ever given, even after failure.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated while the vehicle was idling, there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the engine. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH and exiting the highway, the abnormal sound turned into a screeching, grinding, and squealing sound, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine had failed, and there were metal shavings in the oil. The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related to the failure was to NHTSA Action Number: PE25001 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,990.
The car all of a sudden started making wired noises during idling. While driving it would click and start shaking. Took it to a GM service center. They diagnosed as a flywheel. After investigating, it was not the fly wheel. They tore the motor apart as they though liftor 7 and 8 were bad. During that process, they found "large parts" of metal in the oil and found a rod barring failed. They are now replacing the entire engine.
1-'Engine Oil Low Add Oil' warning sign is being displayed. Vehicle is burning oil with no leakages. Warning sign has come on multiple times; authorized manufacture dealer service center finds no failure. Independent service center finds oil consumption to exist without leaks anywhere and beliefs this is due to a known engine failure in this model. 2-'Service Transmission Now Unable to Shift Soon' warning sign appears while driving but authorized manufacture dealer service center is unable to reproduce or determine issue.
I was driving my 3 children to a basketball tournament. I was going about 70 mph on the highway when my dash started flashing "Engine Oil Hot", a few seconds later my vehicle completely "shut off/died". I merged over to the shoulder of the highway and tried to restart my vehicle, yet it just "clicked" and seemed to be "dead". The safety of myself and my 3 children were at risk, being stranded on the side of the highway far from home waiting for the tow truck. To say I was scared is an understatement, there was no warning signs so I could prepare for this. My vehicle was towed into a dealership, later that week I received a call saying I will need a new engine. I was told this could take up to 1-4 months because so many other vehicles with the exact same failure are waiting for their engine replacements as well. I am a working mother of 3, and now I am out of a vehicle for 1-4 months. I bought this vehicle new to be a reliable and large enough for my family, little did I know I would be left with no means of transportation because of a faulty engine!
During my last oil change had the update for the software recall. Onstar module was killed with this update, and the part 85560244 is discontinued. Now I don't have onstar, wifi, along with other safety features like speed, maps, etc. This is a MAJOR concern.
On [XXX] my vehicle displayed an engine light on the dash. The light went on and off randomly throughout the day. The vehicle was hooked up to a computer that said there were no issues and everything was fine. On [XXX] I drove the vehicle over 240 miles to Pittsburgh and back with no lights. At one point the vehicle did make a loud noise for the drive but I took it out of cruise control and everything was fine. On [XXX] while driving to Poconos, PA with my family (husband, self, children ages [XXX] , [XXX] , [XXX] and [XXX] ) on [XXX} at approximately mile marker [XXX] the vehicle's engine quit working. The engine light came on and we were able to coast off of a bridge and onto the shoulder of the highway. We were unable to exit the vehicle due to high rates of speed of oncoming traffic and the shoulder not having much room. We contacted OnStar who sent a state trooper to assist with traffic control until a tow could get to our area. The vehicle was towed to Blaise Alexander in Bloomsburg, PA. My and my three youngest children had to ride with the state police officer and my husband and older son rode with the tow truck due to not having anything to fit a family of 6. The police officer told me that he had a 2024 GMC Yukon Denali have the same issue in the same spot on the highway a week ago. The vehicle has just over 25,054 miles on it. On 3/10/25 Blaise Alexander called to state that there was metal in the engine and the engine would need to be replaced. The service manager
While driving the vehicle shut down and never would restart. It was taken to a GMC dealer and currently on a waitlist for a new engine. The wait period I was given is approximately 4 months as I was told the engine is on back order.
I was 450 miles away from home. Travelling at 80 mph in the left lane of Interstate 35 when the Yukon stopped accelerating and started coasting. I looked at the gauge clusters on the dash and it said Press Start to Shift. I looked at the shifter and it had automatically moved from Drive to Neutral. It would not move back to Drive. I then pressed the Start button like it said on the dash and the whole vehicle shutoff while still at highway speed going 70mph and still coasting. I put hazards on and moved to the right sliding in-between two 18 wheelers who gave me space thankfully then I was able to get it to the shoulder. Once stopped I moved it into Park and pressed the Start button and the dash said "unsafe conditions unable to shift", or something like that. After 2 minutes of pressing the Start button, I was able to get it started again and we started back on the road. After 2 miles, I was once again back to 80 mph in the left lane when it happened again. This time I was barely able to move off the road. We were on a long turn to the left and several 18 wheelers were all around. Once stopped, it never started again. The engine shutting off at highway speed with 18 wheelers all around put myself and 2 family members at serious risk for injury and we were just leaving a family funeral. And the 2nd time it happened, I was not able to fully pull over either causing 18 wheelers to come very close to hitting us as we were stuck on a left hand turn with a 60 mph left to right cros
While driving on the highway the engine just shut off with no warning or other indication of problem. The dashboard computer instructed to restart the vehicle, which it would not restart. Managed to get to the side of the road. But the vehicle was unresponsive. After about an hour the lights in the rear of the vehicle flickered, so I attempted to re-start -which it did, and was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer (about 20 miles away). Where the car remains today. The incident occurred Feb 2. Took the dealer until 2/6 to advise me that the engine would need to be replaced. At that time they indicated they would need to car for about 2 weeks. I contacted them on 3/3 and they informed me they had no idea when they might be able to get the parts to replace the engine - there was a 3,000 engine backlog? Clearly there is a major issues with these engines; how are they allowed to continue to sell these vehicles, and allow current owners to operate them without a notice? While I was fortunately able to get to the side of the road - have in the car lose power suddenly lose power is clearly a safety issue!
I had a 10 month old 2022 Yukon Denali XL. There was a constant smell of exhaust fumes inside the cabin. Took it into the dealership on multiple occasions and they found a leak in the exhaust system and supposedly fixed it. Less than 24hrs after getting it out of the shop, the engine seized up. Engine was replaced weeks later and within 7 days I started having transmission issue. GMC did absolutely nothing to keep my family of 8 safe.
Engine seized up from connecting rod bearing
Driving on the highway and the vehicle began making a strange noise. Went immediately to a dealership and they identified a bearing had come loose in the engine and the engine has to be completed replaced. Cost of almost $11k and the engine is on back order with no definite availability date. Vehicle was in excellent condition, all scheduled maintenance at the dealership. No issues until this. Approximately 80k miles m.
In July of 2023, my wife and kids were driving to San Diego from Phoenix. About 40 miles west of El Centro, CA, all the lights on the dash came on instructing her to pull over. When she pulled over and shut the car off, it would not come back on. Got towed back to a GM Dealership in El Centro. The diagnosed it with a bad radiator and failed engine. The replaced both(at roughly 30,000 miles). The car was fine for about six months and then it started getting battery drains again, which continually happened starting a few months after purchasing the vehicle. They never could figure this part out. Anyway, early January of 2025, while driving back to Phoenix from San Diego, the car did the same thing. This time, it restarted and she could continue on her way home. On [XXX], while driving in town, the same thing happened, all lights came on, pulled over and car would not restart. It is diagnosed with the same issue. It has been in the shop at Van GMC since January 12th, 2025 waiting on a new engine, at 63,000 miles. This will be the 3rd engine in the vehicle. By looking online, this appears to be a common issue and happens more than it should. This needs to be addressed. My wife has our kids in this vehicle a majority of the time and this is a major safety issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Traveling North bound on Highway 14 in Southern California on January 24, 2025. In the fast lane traveling approximately 70MPH when with no warning what so ever the vehicle shifted into neutral and lost power. Nearly rear ended trying to get out of traffic and to the right shoulder. Once stopped the vehicle would not start, stuck in Park, and could not turn the electronics off. Stuck in vehicle for 3 hours because it was too dangerous to exit vehicle. Tow truck arrived. Tried to jump the battery which by this time was dead. Had to drag the vehicle up the flatbed with wench do to vehicle unable to shift out of Park.

Our car has 66,000 miles on it. My wife was driving it we have never hooked a trailer to it. Never done anything but drive our kids around go run errands in it. The motor seized and left my wife stranded. The car has been fully serviced ahead of schedule every time And very well taken care of it still looks new, but the dealership is now telling me the motor and the transmission possibly are bad and I’m only 6000 miles past the factory warranty. There’s no reason for this motor to have failed or the transmission as the car has never seen any hard service and has only seen normal paved roads and running errands and dropping kids off. The dealership said it’s going to cost around $16,000 to fix both the engine and the transmission out of nowhere the motor just seized with no warning and no noises
The engine failed and needs a full replacement. My vehicle was inoperable and died in the turn lane of a very busy highway.

Vehicle was towed to GM dealership in Abilene and engine was replaced under powertrain warranty.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle failed to restart. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that the engine had seized but were unable to provide a specific diagnosis. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred a month later. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer, who again determined that the engine had seized and were unable to provide a specific diagnosis. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 55,000.
Driving on a highway at 75 mph when car had multiple error messages popping up in screen (switching too fast to read) when the car made a loud noise & started to decrease speed. Nothing worked. Pulled off to side of road & car would not restart. Currently in the shop awaiting a new engine.
Relatively uneventful ownership history for new 2022 Yukon XL Denali purchased April 2022. Yesterday, started noticing knocking noise from engine. On way to dealership today, the engine died on the interstate without any warning messages and the vehicle ultimately stopped in the middle of the road off of the exit with my 3 young children on board. Dealership indicates that engine died and will need to be replaced. They stated that 3 other vehicles on the lot with the same issue.

We were driving South on [XXX] when lights on the dash started flickering and the vehicle switched itself to Neutral and had a sudden loss of power. We were lucky enough to get out of traffic and spent 5 hours waiting on Roadside Assistance and a tow truck. It was a very dangerous situation. The service department at Sullivan GMC Ocala (352)-414-4962 first said that replacing the Fuel Module would fix it. 5 days later they said it needs a new engine. They plan to replace it with the same 6.2 engine. (same part number that is defective) The electrical safety system should be recalled. With no warning, the vehicle loses power and stops. GMC and every service department manager that I have spoke to knows about this issue. GMC continues to market and sell these engines and vehicles. Someone is going to get seriously hurt or killed because of GMC's negligence. GMC Case [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My engine seized twice within one year span. Both time on a highway without any warning. The engine is on the back order and the dealer has no estimate of the replacement part arrival. I have no vehicle and they have absolutely no remedy right now
On Christmas Eve my family and I were driving out of town on the freeway when my 2022 Yukon's engine started making very loud grinding, rattling noises and instantly started slowing down and losing power, there were no warning signs on the dash and the GMC app showed my vehicle was still in a healthy condition. We had no warning at all. The vehicle was towed to Corwin GMC and we were told we will need a total engine replacement. We have been waiting almost a month now with no update as to when it will be fixed.
IN jUNE 2024, the engine suddenly stopped running; IT was towed into the dealership and they had to replace the engine for rod bearing problems.
I am writing the NHTSA to advise of a harrowing event involving the vehicle named above. I was driving my 2022 Yukon vehicle equipped with the 6.2L Ecotec3 V8 L87 Engine. As I was traveling, the vehicle suddenly without warning shut down. When this occurred all systems in the vehicle became completely inoperable; i.e., no power steering, no power brakes, nothing, Etc. I was lucky to be able to veer/coast into the Emergency Lane without incident. This situation also caused the vehicle to become almost un-towable, in that the towing company could not get the vehicle out of the Park position to allow the wheels to rotate. They had to use special Skid Plates / devices to essentially force the vehicle to Slide instead of rolling onto the towing vehicle. This added significate hazard and risk of injury because of the problematic situation of loading the vehicle in this manner literally inches from the active travel lanes and took much longer to load than it would have otherwise. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer. The Dealer replaced the Fuel Module and returned the vehicle. This information is being sent to GM as well. After this event I was concerned for driving the vehicle but now after reading about the recent NHTSA Investigation into Engine Failures I am much more apprehensive about driving the vehicle. Even if nothing happens individuals who have these vehicles have now lost significant value and face a very difficult time even being able to sell their vehicles at all,
Without warning, the motor siezed and locked up on the interstate. It has been in the shop for 3 months and GM is giving me the run around on fixing it but the dealership has told me that this is a huge common issue and is happening to many other vehicles this year with this motor.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
