The original engine (6.2L L87) had to be rebuilt by GM because of lower engine knocking in June 2024, with 57,873 miles. The rebuilt engine had to be replaced with a remanufactured engine in October 2024, but had to wait until the completed work in December 2024. The remanufactured engine started knocking, and that engine was replaced in October 2025. All part of the L87 6.2L engine failures. Problem documented by dealerships. Components were brought to GM's attention. No warning lights or messages - just lower engine knock.

My truck had a ticking, knocking on the bottom end of the engine as I was driving home with my children. When i pulled into my driveway, the low oil pressure light came on and the truck began to stall while the back of the truck was till in the roadway. Several cars had to come to a complete stop to avoid hitting us, right where my children were seated in the back. I was able to limp the truck into my driveway. The following day I attempted to start the truck. It started hard and immediately gave me a low oil pressure light. I shut the truck off and called the dealership. The dealer wanted $3000 to just diagnose the problem. I had to pay out of pocket to get the truck towed to a private shop. The private shop started the truck and attempted to drive it to reproduce the issue. The truck engine seized and I had to pay to have it towed back to the shop. I then had to purchase a brand new crate engine from GM and pay to have it installed. The seized engine would not even roll over, so the cost of labor was increased due to them not being able to unbolt the torque converter on the engine. My engine is a 6.2l and GM told me based on by truck being a 2019, that it was not included in the recall. So far, the engine replacement has cost me $19,000.

Was driving at about 55 mph and vehicle popped up with warning and said shift into neutral to restart. I tried to and all power turned off. This was at around 8 p.m. so no headlights or anything. Luckily got it stopped without hitting anything. Had vehicle towed and motor was locked up. Spun bearing they said. Same issue apparently as other 6.2 liter engines have been having.

Engine Failure. 1. The lifter in cylinder 5 failed (dropped) this prompted me to bring the truck in initially. 2. Upon further inspection all the cam bearings were scored and out of spec. Waited 4 months for an engine replacement from GM. Eventually I cut my losses and sent the block to a machine shop. This was all paid out of pocket. Truck had 74,000 miles on it.

Engine suddenly lost power at highway speed. Truck was still running so I was able to get off the highway. Engine failure was caused by bent lifter. Lifter failure also caused damage to the camshaft. Without any notice, I lost my power steering while driving. The wheel jerked to the side, and when I corrected I realized that I no longer had power steering. I was still able to "steer" my vehicle, but not without brute force. If it were someone of lesser ability (e.g. elderly) it may have led to a devastating outcome. I have yet to get the issue diagnosed, as it just happened yesterday, but it certainly is concerning! I just wanted to bring this to the attention of the NHTSA, as I've since learned that I'm not the first GM Sierra owner to suffer this malfunction.

Defective out cool oil return line on v8 6.2L engine. Causing the truck to lose oil immediately due to being under pressure. Caused complete engine failure and required a new engine. That took 4-5 months to complete. Located in park city Utah a cold weather location. Not part of the 2019 recall for the same failure that gmc did in Canada and Alaska for a defective cool oil return line. When I called gmc to talk about it they referenced my vin and said it had no open issues and that they couldn’t talk about it.

At approximately 61,500 miles, the engine malfunctioned while cruising on a 4-lane highway at 45 MPH. The problem was diagnosed by an independent mechanic as a crankshaft rod bearing failure. This failure happened despite all recommended maintenance being performed with specified parts. This failure caused a safety concern as the vehicle was in motion at the time of the failure, increasing the potential for a collision due to the vehicle becoming disabled on a highway. The engine was replaced at a cost of approximately $13,500 parts and labor. Vehicle was out of service for two months due to a waiting list on replacement L87 engines.

My engine has a loud knocking/ticking noise. I have had one mechanic look at it. He has me taking my truck to a dealership this week. He believes the known issue with GMC's 6.2 engine is taking place in the engine in my 2019. From a verbal conversation with the dealership, they believe the same. I was advised to complete this form ASAP.

While towing a trailer on Highway 77 in northern Wisconsin, my 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 experienced a sudden engine failure. The dashboard lit up with alerts for the engine, transmission, ABS, and traction control. I safely pulled over in a 55 mph zone with narrow shoulders and heavy truck traffic due to nearby road construction. The truck lost all power, and I had to block the driving lane to transfer the trailer to another vehicle, creating a hazardous situation. There were no prior warnings or issues. The truck had regular service at independent shops, and I had checked and topped off the oil that morning. Lahti Towing & Service recovered the vehicle, changed the oil (no metal shavings), and replaced the camshaft sensor, but the truck still wouldn’t start. They then towed it to Rhinelander GMC, where a broken timing chain was diagnosed, requiring a full engine replacement. The vehicle is currently at Rhinelander GMC and available for inspection. I have photos of the dashboard alerts and data from the GM app documenting the incident.

Pulled up to a stop sign, the engine shutoff and would not restart. Had the vehicle towed to the dealership. Received a call that the engine will need to be replaced. The code is a P0016. Same code as the other 6.2 L87 GM motors, but is not currently under the recall. They found no metal in the oil pan and the engine only has compression on cylinders 2 & 8. Make no mechanical sense. Before this, I had no engine lights, I had no oil burning, I had no smell of oil and the truck ran fine. No loss of power or any other issues.

My truck has a blue screen that appears randomly on occasion that states service rear view system. This is a major safety concern. And after reading online it is a very common occurrence on 2019-2025 gm pickups. It needs to be recalled and a for sure fix done to prevent from backing into someone or something. I have small children and my biggest fear is running them over while playing in the yard and I rely very much on my rear view/360 camera to make sure this doesn’t happen even after double and triple checking they are no where near danger before stepping in my vehicle.

As I was turning left from a county road to a highway my truck died on me. I was able to push it out of the road with the help of two other motorist. My truck is at the dealership right now awaiting repair because GM will not recognize that my 2019 6.2 L87 engine has the same known defects as other 2019 6.2 L87. Our GMC engine with VIN# above needs to be recalled due to the failed Active Fuel Management (AFM) lifter which resulted in misfire’s & engine failure. GMC's defective lifters create a safety concern due to potential engine stalling and power loss while driving, which can lead to dangerous traffic accidents. While GM has implemented extended component coverage for some issues and issued a recall for a related problem with L87 V8 engines, they have not with our GMC Sierra with the VIN# listed above, which has the same safety concern. Our GMC is currently at the dealership and we are determining next steps. Thankfully, my husband pulled over on the side of the road and turned the vehicle off before complete power loss. There was not much notification with the engine light prior to the incident. This could have ended very badly with my husband being injured or even worse my three children also being injured.

Vehicle (2019 GMC Sierra SLT X31!Crew Cab 6.2 l gas engine) stopped running while driving down the road (Wednesday [XXX]. Tried to start truck - would crank over quickly but failed to start ( crank no start with no check engine light.) tried several times same result. Started after about 5-10 minutes and was displaying low fuel indicator even though we knew it had approximately 1/2 tank. We immediately put gas in it and it took approximately 1/2 tank to fill. Still no check engine light and confirmed no stored codes via onstar report. Drove the truck around for may 1hr and check engine light came on but was still running and did not stop running like it did earlier. On star reported ECM SYSTEM CODE P129F ( Fuel pump or fuel pump power control module). Long story short, put truck in independent repair shop I use. They diagnosed it was a defective fuel pump located in fuel tank. They told me GM technical support recommended to replace the fuel pump and fuel pump power and control module at a cost of ~$1325.00. It is my opinion this is a safety hazard and very similar if not exactly the same failure symptoms / modes as others have already reported. I requested to keep the failed parts and still have them in my possession. Please review and let me know if you need or want additional information . My truck is currently experiencing shuddering when driving. This happens at random times but is becoming more frequent. I have taken it into service shops on numerous occasions, and they have not been able to identify the cause due to my truck not exhibiting these conditions when they are diagnosing it. I have run out of funds to continually pay for diagnostic fees, so I have had to let it go until recently. Now it shudders, shifts very harshly, rpms fluctuate continuously, knocking noise when driving, and in the mornings when I first leave for work, my truck will not shift out of first without revving high in rpms. I took it to a mechanic and was told that it was my torque converter, which has now damaged my transmission. All of which I have to pay for out of pocket. These symptoms started when my vehicle was still under warranty (around 30,000 miles). I even flushed the transmission, and it did not help. This is my daily driving truck, and I use it to go to work and transport my 3 young children around. Most of our driving is done on the highway at high speeds (70 mph). When my truck shudders or shifts harshly, I feel that it is going to cause me to lose control or wreck, putting not only my life but my children's lives in danger. I have not consulted a lawyer, as I do not have enough money to do so. I have not had the manufacturer look at it, because when I called about it, they told me I would have to pay for all service fees since it is out of warranty. The only warning

Engine failure; according to GM Mechanics, the lifters failed and this resulted in a broken push rod. Vehicle is now waiting for a new engine; $8,882.00 out of pocket from owner, because current recall does not include the 2019 or 2020; only the 2021 and newer of the same enginee, with the same exact failures. Vehicle has under 75,000 miles and has been serviced for oil change and engine maintenance at GM dealership since purchased. Several different mechanics, on with over 40 years of GM Engine experience, have evaluated the engine all deeming the same failure. Dealership confirms that there is a 6 to 8 week lead time for the new engine because, quote, "there are so many being replaced for the existing recall". I received no warning from the vehicle systems, no information from the local GM dealership or any other communication that my vehicle was at risk for this failure. I am without a vehicle for likely 2 months and will be 'out of pocket' almost $9,000.00 when this is done. This is my second Sierra Denali 1500 in the past 10 years, and my >10th GM vehicle to own, and for the 'Premium Pick-up Truck' on the market, I have always expected the finest quality and service, and this situation changes everything.

Since purchasing the vehicle, I have had it serviced regularly and reported that it was driving rough, jerking into gear, and showing early signs of engine and transmission problems. These issues were noted during multiple multipoint inspection services, yet no lasting solutions were provided. Major issues have included: •Engine performance failures •Fuel injector malfunction •Serpentine belt and idler pulley damage •A/C compressor belt failure •Power steering malfunctions •Vehicle stalling at traffic lights •Loss of power on major highways •Rear window water leaks •Significant and ongoing electrical system problems •Shaking when brakes applied after having brakes and rotors replace in March •Screen monitor going out after paying over $ 900 dollars for updated software and repairs to the electronic component that cost over $2500. Component/System that failed: The issue appears to originate from the transmission or drivetrain, specifically resulting in the rear wheels locking up and dragging at low speeds. It feels like something is seizing inside the drivetrain, making the truck very difficult to move. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. How safety was put at risk: This failure presents a serious and unpredictable safety hazard. The vehicle begins locking up randomly when slowing down, such as in parking lots or residential areas. If this occurred at higher speeds or in traffic, it could easily result in a crash, loss of control, or pedestrian injury. It’s completely unreliable and unsafe to operate in this condition. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center? The issue is part of a well-known transmission defect affecting GM’s 8-speed automatic transmissions. There are multiple class action lawsuits and thousands of consumer complaints documenting identical symptoms. GM is fully aware of the defect but has refused to issue a recall, instead allowing the time-based warranty to expire even when the mileage is still well within the 60,000-mile limit. My local GMC dealer refused to offer a loaner or goodwill repair and quoted over a week just to diagnose it despite knowing that this is a known failure point. The symptoms are consistent with the known defect GM continues to avoid addressing. Has it been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance?

I safely existed the freeway and pulled over to investigate, there was no flat tire yet the vehicle still made the noise and experienced issues when the throttle was applied. I proceeded to call a tow truck, and have the vehicle towed from Alpine, CA to Temecula and Temecula Valley GMC. While there the dealership gave me an initial diagnosis of "Miss fire in cylinder 8". We left the vehicle, and awaited more information. The next day I received a phone call stating that they needed to do an engine teardown to completely diagnose the issue, to the tune of approx. $1,500. In the dealers words, they needed to do the teardown to determine if "They could salvage the engine, or if it had to be condemned". NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
