Misfire with code PO300, Ticketing from engine at higher RPM/lose power and seems to be misfiring. Check engine light would blink and then shut off. Four rockers found to be bent push rod. - Replaced right and left side lifters and guides. Replaced Vlom and 1 push rod. Dealer diagnose and repair. Lifter failure due to engine switching from V8 to V4. Very expensive and very common problem with this type of engine. Truck is young with only 74,000 miles on it. Had to replace the transmission at 70,000 also.

Trailer Brake System Fault requiring service. Seems like its an issue a lot with Chevy and GMC Trucks.
Fully enclosed LED tail light (turn and brake integrated into 1 LED "strip") with no visible moisture ingress/egress system showing retained moisture and no longer functional. Dash light for "rear signal brake light failure" appears. This rear light unit is NOT serviceable or repairable when a light goes out and is fully sealed aside from the reverse light (incandescent bulb and functions fine). LED's should have a lifespan that outlives the vehicle and a major incentive to have LED integration with lighting is the lifespan and reduced need for service. Now the taillight and brake light stop working and can not be fixed without spending <$500 per side. This is a safety issue that seems to be closely related to the issues with the GMC Yukon's of the same generation.
The trailer brake system is displaying a warning. The truck has less than 50,000 miles and the tow option has never been used. I am told that it would be risky to use it without repair. this is a safety issue that should be a recall. I have checked and there are thousands with the same issue and it has gone on for years without being addressed by GM or NHTSA. It's time to step up and take care of this situation. There is no telling how many have been injured or killed by this. if nothing is done I will approach someone in the media.
While parking I was backing up to straighten the truck in the space. When I went to stop I noticed that "normal" pedal pressure was not stopping the truck and I could tell vacuum was not available to boost the brakes, causing me to have to "stand on the pedal", almost causing me to hit the car behind me. I purchased the truck used four months ago and when checking recalls the nhtsa says none are open so I assume it has been addressed but didn't fix the issue obviously.
Low speed brake assist failure in traffic.. Caused me to bump the person in front of me... Then a few days later I got the "service brake assist " on my dash.. Then my gmc app sent me a service soon warning... 2017 gmc sierra denali at 62500 miles.
Back up sensors not working. Truck also not having a vin number even though it was bought from the the Chevy dealership. Also was told the electrical system is not working properly
I was pulling in to a parking spot and pressed the brakes and the truck didn’t stop and I hit the sign. When I looked at the dash there was a “service brake assist “ warning on.
Transmission needed to be replace after only 73,277 miles.
Over some time we had noticed a chirping / pulsating sound when starting the engine after it was fully cooled down. Cold start. This sound over the last few months has been increasingly getting worse. We asked our dealer to check things over and determine what could be the issue on a regular service visit for oil change. They could not find a reason but said a service visit with a full line mechanic would be needed to diagnose the issue. We did our own closer look and diagnosing just where the sound and smell of oil fumes or gases were coming from and found the Left side (drivers) rear / back cylinder exhaust manifold bolts to be broken off and gone. There are a total of 5 studs and the rear two had failed and gave away to now allow the exhaust manifold to leak exhaust fumes that are obvious in the cab at startup. This is a pretty major failure and safety problem we feel that GM needs to take action on and correct.
I am experiencing hard brake pedal and/or brake fade when attempting to apply the brakes. Their is a recall for this problem on other models, however my truck model year is not included for some reason. This has occurred on multiple occasions and has nearly caused an accident on those occasions. My truck also began to roll out of a parking spot and I had extremely hard brake pressure but no response from the brakes.
My 2017 GMC Sierra is experiencing similar issues with excessive force required, vibration in brake pedal at low speeds, and delays in stopping as found on 2018 and up trucks and SUVs. I notified the dealership about a year ago about the issue and it potentially being linked to the recall and they said it wasn't and they would have to charge me to inspect and repair. The issue can obviously lead to an accident if the brakes continue to worsen and fail. Also abrupt stopping at low speeds doesn't work efficiently putting anyone who steps out in front of my vehicle or stops abruptly in front of me at risk. A couple of times there was a diagnostics alert sent to my email stating an "issue with the antilock braking system was detected". There are already accidents reported with 2018 and up vehicles because of this issue. I feel the recall for the 2018 and up vehicles needs to be extended to 2017 vehicles to prevent accidents.
Driving down the road. Thankfully it was late at night and the roads were empty. But the truck shut down and brakes locked up and steering wheel locked. Once I was at a full stop. I turned the truck off and back on and was able to drive home. But I called Gmc regarding this issue and brought they couldn’t find anything wrong
When pressing the brakes a few time at a low speed Iose brake power. There is already a recall out for this model but not my vin. This is my recall issue Brake Assist Decreased Due to Vacuum Loss
I purchased my vehicle in January 2022. On 11/18/22 I captured a photo across my dash stating that the trailer brake system needed to be serviced (photo attached) . This was the second time this message appeared within days. The vehicle continued to beep and flash for a long period of time clearing out my dash screen making it UNSAFE TO DRIVE. The beeping noise startled me, almost causing an accident on the freeway. I did not know what the warning meant as I wasn't towing a trailer. I wasn't towing anything and could not turn off the beeping sound or the flashing screen, in spite of hitting the dismiss button. I don't know why the message continued to go on and assuming there is an electrical shortage somewhere with the wiring. This needs to be recalled and fixed as it is a manufacturer issue. I do not have any aftermarket parts installed in this vehicle. This same alert message appeared again yesterday 12/5/22 as I was driving back from the airport. It continued for almost 2 hours while on the freeway and again I was not pulling or towing anything. I pulled over, checked my tailgate, turned off the vehicle and turned it back on and the message continued until I got home. It is very alarming and annoying and scared me. This is a big safety hazard and almost caused an accident again as the alert is very loud and flashes across, clearing out your screen, causing you to take your eyes off traffic looking ahead. This time, I was traveling in heavy traffic. Please investigate this
The service message appeared on the display after backing up "SERVICE BRAKE ASSIST" I searched this issue and found over 65 complaints for this vehicle year/make /model. I am at work and fear driving home as this issue has resulted in brake failure on some of the complaints noted. I have not contacted anyone yet, I wanted a recall notice as this is a safety issue and we cannot afford any costly vehicle repairs.
The trucks power source starts failing when going at about 15 mph and turning a bit, it happens when coming to a stop or when you’re about to park. The steering wheel starts getting super stiff and all the power buttons and lights start going dim and the truck shuts off. The truck can turn on right after but at times it takes about 15 minutes for the system to reboot and then the truck will finally turn. When this happens you can’t turn on hazard light making it a dangerous situation at night! I’ve talked to other gmc owner with the Denali models and they have stated as well that they’ve had the same issue occur at least once to them, this truck currently does it very often and even more in the cold weather! There has been a recall on earlier an earlier year of the same model truck but just not this one making it tedious to try to get it fixed. I’ve took it to the mechanic and they’ve changed the ground wires, it made the problem just happen less frequently, but it still occurs.
Transmission engine light on, code P0700, P182E. Truck went into limp mode, would recognize what gear its in. Had to shut down vehicle for 10 minutes, restarted then it aloud me to drive.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH, a grinding noise was present coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that the vehicle inadvertently decelerated and stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the residence and examined by a mechanic, who determined that the transmission had failed. The cause of the transmission failure was not yet determined, and the vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage 100,000.
The contact's son owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while her son was driving 30-35 MPH, he heard an abnormal sound. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact's son veered to the side of the road and attentively listened for the sound. The contact's son then inspected the transmission reservoir and noticed that the transmission fluid had leaked out. The contact’s relative brought transmission fluid which was added to the transmission reservoir. The contact's son continued driving; however, the vehicle became undrivable later that day. There was no further information provided. The vehicle was towed to the son’s residence. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra. The contact stated while driving and coming to a stop, the vehicle lost braking functionality. The contact had to desperately depress the brake pedal for the vehicle to come to a complete stop. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was previously serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and offered no additional assistance. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 46,000.
As I am driving the truck I notice that as the accelerator is pressed the truck does not respond as it should. I have taken this to a service repair shop and they have stated it is a ongoing issue with these vehicles. So I have taken it upon myself to look online and sure enough OTHERS have also states the same things.
While making a quick left hand turn at low speed, steering wheel suddenly locked, all lights and electrical went out and engine died. This left me stuck in a busy intersection with no lights. I was able to restart engine after a minute or so. Error message appeared "roll driver side window up, etc." Needless to say, no longer have confidence driving my truck not knowing when this situation may re-occur.
Truck has 67,000 miles and has been in the dealer 3 times for transmission issues. First was the shutter. Then harsh jerking downshifts. They flushed transmission and filled with new fluid under warranty and after 1,000 miles light on again for transmission fluid temperature sensor. And now they want $800 to replace this issue. There was a recall on the 16 model for the same issue with the wiring. About to cut loss and file lemon law. Had the truck for less then 2 years and put 15,000 miles on it
My vehicle shakes at different speeds. Do to the admitted mistake that GM said certain assembly lines put the wrong Transmission fluid which causes corrosion to Transmission. Im paying $900 to correct the problem. They should have recalled the vehicles that was affected.
The power steering failed on three different occasions, all while making a low speed turns. Two of the times it was only a matter of a half a second or so, but the most recent time it failed and I couldn't steer my truck at all and I almost got in an accident. I needed to come to a complete stop, and put my vehicle in park, the power steering warning light had came on. After I stopped, it was another 5-10 seconds before the warning light went off and the steering returned.
Hi I purchased this used 2017 GMC Sierra Denali on October of 2021 it’s been just only one year and while on the road with my trailer attached , I suddenly got a pop up on my display saying “service trailer brake system “ which caused me to be distracted with the chime and the warning being displayed repeatedly and overall left me with no power at all to my trailer brakes I would like to have this recalled and fixed at little to no cost due to the fact of the cheap and unsafe parts that are installed on these types of trucks by GMC
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH and slowing while exiting the highway, the vehicle started to lose forward momentum and lurch forward. The contact had not depressed the brake pedal but instead attempted to accelerate however, the RPM increased but the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that there were no mechanical issues found. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure had become recurring. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.
Driver side low beam head lamp is dim, no high beam. No accident nor damage to assembly
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH and approaching a stop, the contact attempted to accelerate however, the vehicle failed to accelerate properly. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and informed the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was also taken to the dealer who confirmed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 100,000.
The paint has substantial flaking/ easy scratching casting spots down to primer and bare metal
My air conditioning condenser has a leak and leaked all my refrigerant out of the system. From my research and talking to the dealership mechanic, it is a problem GM refuses to do anything about unless your vehicle is under warranty, and they are aware this is a big problem, numerous complaints.
I live in Corona CA where the temperatures easily exceed 100f in the summer months. I was picking my kids up from school yesterday and the AC started blowing warm air. We had to open the windows which brought in even warmer air into the cab. After a little research online, I found there are numerous Sierra owners experiencing the same issue. 99% of the failed AC is due to a "weak weld on the condenser."(see attached photo) Unfortunately, I could not find any recalls or TSBs related to this problem. With the exorbitant amount of Sierra owners experiencing the same-exact-issue, GM MUST be aware of this issue. This should be determined a safety recall, since this is a passenger vehicle, manufactured to provide safe in-cab temperatures for human beings.
Airbag light coming on.
The service trailer brake system keeps coming on. The notification constantly alerts and it’s distracting my driving.
Cold start after vehicle sits for a while vehicle shark bites and stutters. When you try and drive vehicle before it’s been warmed up significantly. It’s a safety concern because it feels very danger and could cause an accident. Alamo At caused my truck to stall out the other day with my children in it and a large accident. Dealership is dismissed my concern and says it’s normal gmc defects that I have to deal with. I will sue GMC if I have to.
This complaint is about the automatic extending/retracting foot steps on my GMC Sierra. The step is supposed to extend outwards when the door is opened and retract back under the truck when the door is closed. Instead, when the door is opened the step extends and at random will retract back inwards. Aside from being annoying this is actually dangerous as the other day i was exiting my truck with one foot on the step and the other reaching down to the ground when the step started retracting. The foot on the step was pulled under the truck and got stuck in the step. This threw me off balance and the other foot hit the ground at an angle and twisted my ankle. I called a local gmc dealership about it and they said they have seen a lot of trucks come in lately with the same issue and would have to replace the entire step for $1800. I brought it to an independent shop and they cleaned and greased the hinges so it happens less often now but it is still a problem. There are no warning lights or messages on the vehicle. It will also extend and retract at random when the truck is parked and off. This began happening around March of this year.
TRAILER BRAKE SYSTEM ERROR COMES ON. I DONT EVEN OWN A TRAILER OR HAVE EVER TOWED A TRAILER. IT CUTS POWER MOMENTARILY AND IS VERY VERY UNSAFE. PLEASE FIX BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT.
A Service "Trailer Brake System" message keeps coming up on my display constantly, over and over and over, I can't see the speed display, I can't hear the turn signal sound, it's extremally distracting and loud. When I looked this message up I found the wiring was faulty and my trailer brakes won't work.
The trailer brake system on my vehicle suddenly stopped working. I was alerted by a continuous chime and message saying "Service Trailer Brake System." My brakes stopped working and made it difficult for me to stop my vehicle and loaded trailer. It was very frightening because I had lost all trailer braking function and feared I would not be able to stop my vehicle. In addition, the chime and message are non stop and very distracting and cause some components of my dashboard to be inaccessible making things more dangerous. Unfortunately, the distracting and frustrating chime and message continue even without a trailer attached.
Loss of power assist at slow speed when backing or going forward. This has happened several times since I have had the vehicle. Brake pedal is very hard to press and vibrates.
Transmission experiencing hard shifts, especially at low speeds. Vehicle "jumps" forward with the hard shift. Took to dealer for service. Dealer indicated that GMC used the wrong transmission fluid during assembly of the vehicle. This was a known problem within GMC.
Transmission has been skipping since 35000 miles, it does it when driving more than 35 mph.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was turned off, the driver’s and passenger’s side running boards would erroneously activate and repeatedly extend in and out. The contact was concerned that the failure created a trip and fall, and pinching hazard. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.
Truck has the 8 speed automatic transmission and at times makes a hard shift when pulling out from a stop. Truck currently shudders/shakes at around 1500 to 2000 rpm until the transmission goes into a lower gear. Feels like rumble strips in the road. Truck has only 32,000 miles on it.
EBCM needs to be reprogrammed. Larry Stovesand GMC in Paducah, KY will NOT service my recall because it was closed on 2019, research has shown that this programming may need to be done again. After telling them this info. they are now saying that they will not service my recall because it has a salvaged title. After researching how a salvaged title is still honorable for a free recall service they are now telling me to take it somewhere else.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the vehicle began to shift hard, started shuddering, and lost electrical power. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to push the vehicle to the side of the road with assistance. The contact was able to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle was shifting hard and was shuddering while driving. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the main power cord had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer; Fresno Buick GMC (5515 N Blackstone Ave, Fresno, CA 93710) where it was diagnosed that the transmission torque converter and the engine mounts needed to be replaced. Additionally, the dealer diagnosed that the coolant reservoir had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure through email. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.
The trailer brake System sensor keeps going off making the vehicle unbearable to drive. The transmission also jerks when it gets to 7 mph. I've taken the truck to the GMC dealer over 3 times to check the transmission problem and it still jerks. This has been a on going problem since the purchase of the vehicle.
I was driving and my Trailer brake system warning started going off. I ha e never towed anything so not sure why this is happening.
Driving on the highway going approximately 64mph and the traffic lane shifted over and everyone started to slow down and when I went to apply some brake . The pedal got very hard and became very hard to push down effecting my ability to brake properly. This almost caused me to get into an accident and I had to shoot over to the breakdown lane giving me enough time to slow down. My pedal became very hard to push down. This problem continued throughout my travel and service brake assist came on after the fact

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
