I purchased my truck (15 GMC Sierra z71 4x4) with around 122,000 miles on it. I would be owner #2. Truck ran great. Around 150,000 miles I noticed my truck's transmission start to jerk while accelerating from gear to gear. No engine light ever appeared. Problem stopped. A few days later while dropping my daughter off at school, my truck wouldn't go passed 35 mph. I had to put the shifter in manual and shift to third gear. Other gears would just rev the rpm's to 4 or 5. Since I didn't want to put my family, me and others on the road at risk. I parked my truck and started driving my other vehicle. A few months went by, and my other vehicle had a flat tire, I had to drive my truck to work. On the way home from work, my truck started acting up again, jerking while accelerating. speedometer would go up however truck didn't move. I had to pull over quickly so I wouldn't be broken down in the traffic lane. I turned the ignition off and waited five minutes and started the truck up. I was able to make it home. At this time the engine soon light came on. I ran my scanner on my truck and code P0700 TCM was the only code showing. I had a Gmc dealer look at my truck and stated I would need a new transmission. I have done many months if not almost close to a year of research with results showing that transmission problems just what I was experiencing are a common problem with 2014-2019 chevy and Gmc / Silverado pickups with transmission 6L80. I dropped my truck off at another transmission

The component or system failed was the transmission 4 different times. A new transmission was put in the car just 6 months after purchasing from a dealer. The transmission lasted close to 3 years being shy only a few days before the transmission warranty expired. So a new transmission was provided by the transmission owner at no additional cost for the transmission but we had to pay $1600 out of pocket for labor. That transmission lasted for 2 months before failing again which caused us to have the truck towed to our home to decide what our next step would be. So we had it towed to Tire max and they put in another transmission by the same manufacturer which we only had 2 days left under the warranty. That transmission failed within 2-3 days so we took it back to a different Tire Max location and they put in another transmission which did not cost anything for us by the manufacturer including labor. This transmission has now been in good standing since 12/20/23.

I would like to bring to your attention an alarming incident that occurred on January 3, 2024, with my truck. While accelerating onto the highway, the engine and drivetrain failed suddenly, posing a significant safety risk. The failure left the engine incapable of functioning properly, which could have resulted in a catastrophic accident. Seeking answers about the cause of this dangerous malfunction, I promptly arranged for an inspection by RNZ Concepts. After evaluation, they suspected a potential problem with the hydraulic lifter or camshaft. It is baffling to note that, other than an initial transmission replacement, there were no further indications of any underlying issues, as the truck is regularly serviced. Additionally, within 60 days of purchasing the vehicle, similar issues arose, requiring additional repairs that were paid out-of-pocket at the time. Now, the vehicle is once again out of commission due to persistent GMC failures. The estimated repair cost is expected to be between $6,000 and $10,000.

Rainy road, 60mph on the hw with my family. Truck decides to engage stabilitrak or something to that feel and locked up the brakes. Talk about a scary moment with an 18 wheeler coming in hot behind you. Obviously, in the moment, I had no clue what was happening other than something with the truck was malfunctioning. This scenario could have gone wrong in so many ways. I'm honestly in shock someone has not been killed because of this?

The truck has only 122, 230 miles and shuddering in the transmission is horrible. I just purchased the truck 3 weeks ago and the owner stated nothing was wrong with it. However I took it to mechanic for inspection after purchase and he stated transmission has shuddering. I noticed at 40 miles plus the truck vibrates at steering wheel.

The truck completely shut off while making a turn in town. I didn't have any control of the truck, steering or braking ability. In a attempted to restart the truck or regain steering and braking, I cycled the key to no avail. I then urgently tried putting it into neutral, and cycling the key again. The truck started and I regained control. In the 5-10 seconds that passed while the vehicle was out of control, the vehicle traveled over the curb and then onto the sidewalk. It is miraculous that I didn't cause an accident or cause injury to pedestrians. I was shaking. This event was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me in a vehicle. A blessing for sure. In not the clearest frame of mind, I drove the vehicle back to my home. It is parked and I won't drive it until it is repaired. Upon getting home and calming down, I googled this event. The Google search indicated that this scenario is very common in gmc trucks between 2014-17. The cause is apparently faulty battery cables and/or corroded grounding points. I do not understand why there isn't a recall or safety bulletin to inform vehicle owners of this issue. I could have easily killed someone. I passionately feel that action needs to be taken on this series of gmc trucks to prevent a deadly accident!

When I turn the steering wheel, the ac turns off, lights turn off, the computer screen turns off, steering wheel gets hard and does a jerking movement. The truck turns off too and then suddenly turns on. This can cause a death. If this happens in a highway or a street where speed is high this can easily cause a death.. fortunately this has happened going at 30 mph and no one close at the time and also at a drive through fast food restaurant. It has not been confirmed by the dealer but I will soon have to take it. The only light that comes up is the StabiliTrak.. but it only lights up when it happens and then it goes away.

Vehicle has a history of hard shifting and jumping forward under certain conditions. In April 2019, while on the highway traveling about 65 mph, the vehicle slipped out of gear and do no longer be driven. No warnings were displayed prior to the incident. The dealer replaced the torque converter and repaired a broken transmission shaft under warranty. Hard shifting and jumping continued to occur, but the vehicle went without incident for another 4 years. Yesterday, 5/8/2023, the transmission went out again while driving around 35 mph. Vehicle is currently at dealer. My research has shown there is a class action lawsuit in 26 States for transmission issues for GMC vehicles between 2015-2019. NHTSA needs to take action and issue a recall. Losing a transmission while driving is dangerous.

The electrical system has intermittent issues with connection to the battery due to the location of the ground connection from the battery. The ground connection is screwed into the under carriage (near wheel well front passenger side) and left exposed to the elements. Grit and grime build-up over time caused an interference with the connection. The safety issue is the vehicle lost power without warning and while driving causing the vehicle inoperable, including no power steering. Other symptoms include stabiltrak and park assist errors displayed while A/C & radio resets during intermittent power connectivity. The stock headlights both low and high beams provide poor lighting at night. The headlights provide a poor beam pattern making it incredibly difficult to see more than 100 ft in front of you while driving down dark roads. And even more difficult in light storm conditions both rain and snow. The high beams aim too high when used and don't show enough of the road in front of you but rather the tops of tree's or other objects instead of the road. The low beams don't provide much light on the sides of the road as well and at times feel more like they're just fog lights with the amount of light that is put out. These incidents happen anywhere from low speeds up to highway speeds. I have noticed this issue since purchasing it used and have seen multiple similar complaints online.

This vehicle has poor headlight performance. I changed the bulbs to no avail. There is no way this 2015 GMC passes vehicle state inspections if they really look. There is very little power to the lights, even on the high-beams. After some quick research - GM has a service bulletin PIT5374 that addresses this very issue. But the dealerships are using this safety defect as a way to generate service volume. Requiring a $170.00 diagnosis to identify a problem they already know exists.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
