Vehicle frequently shows the error "Shift to Park" when I attempt to turn off the car after it is placed in park - which is confirmable via the instrument panel. The vehicle electronics will not turn off until the error is cleared. At times I cannot clear the error and I've had to set my parking brake and leave the car electronics running while I go into a store, which leaves car unsecured and drains the battery. The car has gone into my local GMC dealer for repairs. The first time I took it in (August 2020), I was 365 miles outside my warranty and GMC refused to pay for the repairs. The dealership felt certain a recall would be issued and suggested I have harness switched which they admitted was a band-aid fix and that it wouldn't fix the issue, but it would allow a period where the error disappears (which it did) - until a recall is issued. The Shift to Park error reappeared about 1.5 years later. I took my Acadia back to the dealership and was told they could not replicate the error and therefore there was nothing they could about it. The error is happening much more often and I've scheduled another repair appointment to address the problem.

There's a shuddering, clanking sound coming from the torque converter when the engine shifts gears at 25-35 mph. I also noticed that it happens when it transitions from 4 cylinders to 6 cylinders. There's a sweet spot somewhere in there. It has also happened on the highway from 65-75 mph. This also happens when it's switching from 4 cylinders to 6 cylinders.

There is a big time shudder and the dealer will not believe me because it doesn’t do it for them. They did admit there is a problem but won’t fix it. I did the transmission fluid exchange like they said and still the problem. I see service bulletins for it but no recall. It’s is now out of warranty and I will have to pay for it. This is not right

Shift to park warning and can’t shut car off

Unknown or Other
Filed Jan 27, 2024GA

Shifter shifts to park but park will not engage. The vehicle chimes a warning that the vehicle is not in park. This was replaced by a GMC dealership under warranty in 2019. The problem has now came back. One of the parts ladies has the same year vehicle and replaced her in 2019 and just had to replace her again last month. The vehicle is out of warranty now and the dealership has not looked at the vehicle yet because my daughter drives it but she’s in college 5 hours away. There is no warnings both times this has happened.

I have a 2017 GMC Acadia with what I call a "Shift to Park" issue. This originally showed up with about 27,XXX miles on the car. It was repaired by the dealer on 9/25/2019. It worked perfectly until it started back up about six weeks or so ago with approximately 57,XXX miles on the car. I was told when it was originally fixed that they knew the issue and had an earnest fix. Not they want >$500 to fix a problem that they were supposed to fix the first time. Here is the issue. When you shift to park, and try to turn the car off, you get an error message that you need to "shift to park". I assume that the car is in park, but not sure with this warning message. You have to start it back up multiple times and play with the shifter. The other option is to let the warning keep flashing and wear the battery down. I have replied the battery on this car two times. When researching this issue on the internet, I see that there are several class action lawsuit for this issue so GM is well aware of the issue. They have apparently figured out the issue because it only affected the 2017 and 2018 Acadias from what I can tell. AS you can tell fro the mileage, this car has low annual miles and ha always been serviced by a GM dealer.

Vehicle will apply breaks abruptly on its own whenever it thinks a vehicle is too close. Was in traffic and it kept slamming on the breaks as I would try and move forward. Will slam on the breaks whenever I attempt to just slow down during the course of driving. Was on the highway and anytime I pressed the breaks to slow down, automatic breaks would slam down breaks on its own. Drove vehicle right to dealership as the was a major safety issue for me especially with my baby in the car.

I believe my vehicle has a software issue, the temperature gauge will read cold, I will get a “Steering assist reduced drive with caution” message, my A/C stops working, and the radiator fans come on full blast the moment you start the car because the temperature can not be read. I have read online forums where others are having this same exact issue. Resetting the codes seems to temporarily fix the issue, but it comes back within roughly 2 weeks. This vehicle has not even reached 60k miles yet.

Went to Burt Watson the end of May. Paid $250 to diagnose 3 problems. Trans was intermittently kicking into passing gear when starting from a stop position, a service engine light and passenger side blind spot warning would come on when nothing was there and other times wouldn't recognize a vehicle was there. Around the middle of July the battery began draining intermittently leaving me stranded at night away from home. The rear defogger began turning itself on and couldn't be shut off and was very hot to the touch. The drivers seat moved all the way forward on its own pressing me into the steering wheel and dash while I was driving at highway speed. Forcing me to change 2 lanes of traffic trying to get to the side of the road.I was told by the service manager that the rear fuse block had shorted out do to water intrusion from bad drain ports. This was replaced, and then I was told something else was draining the battery. And this was "one " of the things not covered by warranty. There is a service bulletin stating that there may be pinholes at the top of the a-pillars and d-pillars yet the dealership stated a new windshield was needed. There are several service bulletins indicating that such leaks can reek havoc on the electronics. The dealership has changed their estimate several times with still no solution in site. The vehicle has been sitting at the dealership since July. At one point it was communicated to me that GM would assist in the cost of the repairs when and if j

I parked uphill on my driveway and put car in park to drop off groceries . My trunk didn’t not open which usually only happens when vehicle is in drive. I felt my car begin to move so I jumped in to discover dash said shift to park. This is major safety issue and happens quite often now. Under this circumstance vehicle can’t turn off. Had to replace battery for always draining. Also seatbelts in back seat and passenger seat do not buckle. There was a recall at one point however it disappeared from my dash board and now reads as completed however I never had the opportunity to correct the recall.

GM is not doing anything to remedy this airbag recall. They are not allowing their own employees to drive the company car with the same recall yet they are expecting the consumer to continue to drive it knowing, if deployed, the driver airbag could explode shrapnel and kill or harm myself and my children in the car. They are not providing any replacement car for me to drive in while they come up with a solution and they are also not wanting to give me anything close to a fair value to trade it in. So, if I want to sell my car, which I own outright, I will lose thousands of dollars from only owning it for three years. They have no remedy or timeline on when one might be available. GM is the only manufacturer not making right on this recall.

This is a known issue with GM 2016-2019 various models including my 2017 Acadia . the shift mechanism does not know that it is in Park position and so indicates "shift to park" on dashboard lights. Therefore ignition switch stays on and accessories that are on will run battery down in a couple of hours. Sometimes the engine will not cut off until you turn it on and off many times. The dealer estimates cost to fix of between $500 and $700. They want an additional $125 for diagnosis, which they already know problem. I found the Service Bulletin on it (19-NA-206) which calls for $42.43 in parts and 1.4 hrs labor. Many people are being ripped off on this problem, which should be a manufactor's recall ! They continued to use defective parts for years after they were aware of this hazard. Please HELP ! I don't think that I should have to pay for this repair!

My Wife and I purchased the 2017 GMC Acadia All Terrain in August 2017. It always had some low gear hard engagement issues. It also had issues of not locking into park when placing in Park. If we released and re-shifted it would engage. On two occasions we had the GMC dealership Durand GMC Leominster MA. check the transmission. Around 34,000 miles and again around 55,00 0 miles On both occasions they claimed they could not recreate the incident I complained about. I told them I believed that to be impossible as it was common, especially going up hill. The service manager was adamant that their was no issue. As I was close to my powertrain warranty expiring I asked again with the same response. In May we started having serious transmission slippage, It became dangerous so we took it to Durand and they found a hole in a fluid tube caused by wear from a support clip. Their repair cost was high, I took it to a respected mechanic. He repaired the tube, unfortunately, the slipppage got worst and we will replace the transmission. My internet research shows many incidents like mine. I want to make it known that my vehicle concerns were swept under the rug. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
