A recall was issued for my car in May ‘23. I have called our local GMC dealer and they explain they do not have the parts. I called GMC recall dept and they say that they are trying to get the parts. But they do not give a timeline at all. This is very frustrating. GMC doesn’t seem to care enough about their customers.

Bought vehicle used/as is from dealer about a month after air bag recall announced in 2023. Found out it is apparently illegal to sell a vehicle with an open recall. Dealer did not disclose the recall and I did not research unfortunately. It's been over a year now since air bag was recalled and still no fix and I live in a very hot state. Should never take this long to fix something so dangerous - FATAL. Lives are possibly at stake!!! Also had to replace temp sensor which cost about $1,000. A/C wasn't working properly. Mechanic said they had to replace the temp sensor. Research shows this is a known issue. Also have had to replace O2 sensors and might have catalytic convertor issue.
My sound no longer works, the radio is constantly going out now I have no sound, no blinker clicks, no emergency notification warnings, no door chime, nothing.
I was traveling at the posted speed limit of 80 mph on [XXX] in South Dakota at [XXX] and the GMC Acadia was working without any issue when all of a sudden various warnings flashed on the dashboard with one of them being power saver mode engaged. Within about 3 minutes various other warnings flashed and the vehicle motor turned off along with all of the electrical systems. Luckily, I was able to maneuver the GMC Acadia to the shoulder of the highway safely. The vehicle would not start and for about a minute or so we were trapped in the Acadia. We could not unlock the doors or wind down the windows until I pressed the start/stop bottom several times. Onstar did not work either. Once we could get out of the Acadia, my wife called 911 and in roughly 20 minutes or so, a police officer arrived at our location. We also called AAA and had a tow truck take the broken down GMC Acadia to a garage for repairs. It turns out that the alternator went bad and rendered our GMC Acadia useless in roughly 3 minutes from the initial warning. There was absolutely none of the tell tale warnings of a bad alternator. We did not see or observe any dim lights, hesitating starts or any other things associated with a bad alternator prior to the 3 minute warning before the vehicle completely was inoperable. We are very lucky to be alive. If [XXX] was more congested with traffic at the time of this incident, we might have been serious injured if not killed. IMO this GMC Acadia is a death trap. For over 2 years now I continue to receive "shift to park" message when I am already in park and trying to turn off vehicle. I can't shut off and have to shift to reverse and/or drive then back to park several times or shove the gear shift towards park for it to finally detect I am in park. I have been setting parking brakes out of fear vehicle will roll due to this issue. Yet, even with all my maintenance, if it doesn't happen during oil change or tune ups dealer nor repair shops aren't diagnosing and issue.

I have been waiting over a year to get my recall airbag fixed. I was sold a defective car and would hope that it would get fixed ASAP especially knowing that if I am in an accident, I could get killed or anyone else in my car could. This is unacceptable. I received a recall letter in May 2023 and today at the emissions testing was told to go get it fixed. I looked up what to do in the GMC website and they make it sound like I just call the dealership and they will fix it. That is not true, I was told there is no solution. I am driving a car that could kill me or any passenger in my car and have been for over a year. I called my dealership, GMC corporate and was told by both of them they would let me know when a part would be available but as of right now there is nothing. I believe it is negligent to have a recall that could cause death and it take this long. It’s not like a little light bulb that is broken. I am very upset and nervous to drive my car knowing the tragedy it could cause.
I don’t know specifically what component but feels like drive stuff. Yes it is available for inspection upon request. Driving during acceleration while entering highway vehicle started to surge or shutter almost total loss of vehicle acceleration and slowed down almost causing the vehicle behind me to hit rear of my vehicle. Mechanic says transmission issue and can be reproduced at times. Symptoms are gradually getting worse. No light other than tire pressure sensor.

Often while trying to park, the car simply won't shut off or allow me to park. I have to shift the handle a bunch of times for the car to turn off.
All of a sudden my infotainment center went blank and hasn't turned on since. I have no backup cameras or backup warnings because of this. I've taken it to an autobody but they cannot fix the issue.
I keep getting a message for Shift to Park when my car is already parked. My battery keeps draining for no reason even through my battery is good. I could be driving and my truck just shuts off without warning and my battery dies. Then when it shuts off all these other lights comes on. I have to let it sit for a second then it starts back up. This has been going on for months. I took it to the dealership and they ran all type of test and couldn’t figure out why it was doing it.
When the vehicle is cold in the winter it is very hard to push in and latch the Driver seat belt. I have complained to the dealer and they have told me that there is no factory approved method to lubricate it. They suggested that I try spraying some WD-40 in it, but they are not allowed to. My vehicle is not under bumper-to-bumper warranty anymore, but I do have a GMC extended warrantee that is stating that it is not covered. I am not aware of anything ever spilling inside of it (If that did happen, it would not work fine in warm weather). Since this is a safety issue I want to ensure it is properly reported and possibly I can get assistance with GMC fixing this issue with my vehicle. I started noticing the issue in winter of 2023 and it was worse this winter (2024).
This model is know for transmission shudder and you put out a memo. I brought the car back under warranty and said it was fine. Now it needs what the memo said and torque converter. Car is out of warranty and they want to charge full price. There should be a recall on this model
In the last couple of weeks my car has started to alert me to “shift into park” when I have already put the car in park. Sometimes it will resolve on its own or I will have to turn it back on and put in drive then back in park to fix. I researched this and found it is a recall for my year of car but did not show when I entered VIN.
2017 GMC Acadia "shift to park" known failure. When you place the vehicle in the park position, mechanically it seems to be in park but the control says shift to park. When traveling long distance from home you can find yourself in a position where you cannot leave your car. You cannot lock it or turn it off properly. This is an ongoing problem known to GM and listed in many Technical bulletins including Bulletin No. 19-NA-206 date September, 2019. A recall should be issued for this problem. We found ourselves stranded hundreds of miles from home with a vehicle we could not shut off or secure. This may cause you to leave your car unattended, unlocked and running if you cannot get it to park and shut down.
My airbags have been under recall since May 2023 and they have not yet been replaced. My vehicle also doesn't appear on the priority list.

The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the traction control message was displayed, and the vehicle started to lose motive power before the vehicle stalled. Car displaying "shift to park" when in park. This has already been addressed once during my ownership. The Shifter Assembly was replaced. Car will not turn off with "shift to park" alert. It is now doing it again. This is a well known issue.
I was notified of the air bag recall in June 2023, and no action has been taken on this problem yet. My concern is, of course, if I'm an accident and the air bag deploys and metal is scattered thru out the inside of the car the end result will be disastrous to whom ever is inside my car.
Incident: the drivetrain shudders and experiences hesitation while attempting to accelerate, and car surges forward when breaking due to what seems to be an issue with the tranmission. This present concerns with potential stalling while driving or the car surging into other vehicles. No indicator lights or error codes are displayed. The presence of this problem in multiple GM vehicles is confirmed by service bulletin 18-NA-358. The safety concern related to this defect should warrant a manufacturer recall to fix the know n defective parts. The vehicle has not yet been repaired. Will request to retain defective parts for inspection upon repair.
Ppark to shift code
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that upon reaching her destination and shifting the vehicle to park, the vehicle failed to recognize that the gear shifter was in park(P). As a result, the vehicle displayed a warning message reading, "Action Required - Please Shift to Park," and the contact was unable to lock the doors until the failure was resolved independently. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 44,000.
GM has had a pending recall for a couple of months minimum on this vehicle for a critical safety component, the airbags. I have a young child and this is our families only car so they should be fixing this immediately. I have had this same recall done on cars I owned in the past (Honda) and it has never taken this long or been an issue.

The rear knuckles have a casting defect that does not allow the lower most forward control arm bolt to be tightened fully. This causes the bolt to be 1/8” from being fully tightened. After removing the casting defect you are able to tighten the bolt fully. The bolt broke off in the knuckle causing the tire to point away from the body at a 45 degree angle. If my wife was on the interstate doing 60 when this happened it could have been life threatening but she was only doing about 10 when it snapped.
Check engine light comes on & simultaneously the A/C will not work. when I first researched there was information stating that the grease GM used in the drive train was too thick resulting in the thermostat not working properly. even though GM first acknowledged they caused the problem they are not issuing a recall to fix the problem. instead they want me to take my car to a dealership & pay approx. $2400 to turn off the sensor
Shift to park comes on when turning car off
Shift to park alert pops up when turning vehicle off. Vehicle is in park. This prohibits the vehicle from turning off. Per my investigation other gmc acadias made in 2017 also have experienced this which results into either prohibiting them from turning their vehicle off or their battery dying. This is a safety hazard because it increases risk of being stranded due to malfunction.
Thermometer stop properly working. Check engine light came on. Ran fhe diagnostic code which confirms the Thermometer needs replaced. This began Dec 2023 - bought the vehicle in Oct 2023. Unsure if this was an issue prior. The cooling fan would kick on, and the temp gauge would stop working. Dealership was able to replace this and so far no further issues with the tempature reading.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
