Rack and pinion malfunctioned causing vehicle steering to pull to one side, eventually causing steering wheel to lock up making it almost impossible to steer vehicle. Problem confirmed by dealer, happened under 60k miles, however vehicle was passed year for factory warranty. No warnings until failure

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Taurus. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed over a dip in the roadway, there was an abnormally loud sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that the rear passenger’s side wheel had shifted inward. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the rear passenger’s side suspension toe link had fractured, and the rear driver's side suspension toe link was also failing, and both needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V072000 (Suspension). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 102,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Taurus. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the vehicle became extremely difficult to maneuver and was not turning as intended. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V072000 (Suspension) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 60,000.
2016 Ford Taruas SEL Both Rear Toe Links went bad at around 64,000 miles The car is incontrollable on bumpy roads, which causes the car to veer very hard into the next lane or off the road. making the car very dangerous Same issue with the SHO model of the same year, the issue had been reported and recalled for the exact same issue my model is experiencing
The front airbag light keeps coming on.
Backup camera fails to work. My Lincoln dealer confirmed but cameras are on back order. This camera is used in multiple Ford vechiles and recalls have been issued for some but not my 2016 Ford Taurus.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that water was leaking from the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where he was informed that oil and water had mixed inside the engine due to a defective engine gasket. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V925000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) which he linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000.
The future that failed on my vehicle was the epas or electronic power assisted steering. This feature failed while I was on the freeway at upwards of 65 mph the steering wheel locked and I was unable to turn the steering wheel. After pulling off of the freeway at slow speeds I was able to give a, very hard like pull to the steering wheel in the direction that I needed it to go. When this feature failed the notification on my dash showed "electronic power assisted steering failure. Service required." Definitely is a danger not only to myself but other drivers on the road who could have been innocently impacted by my car as a failure to be able to steer in the correct direction. This issue is known on 2010 to 2018 Ford vehicles and has been recalled on only certain vehicles not upwards of 2015. Now I'm unable to use my vehicle as I'm not able to steer it.
I was backing up in a parking lot when the backup camera suddenly inverted and I nearly ran over a small child. It now only works about 40% of the time and usually the image is inverted or scrambled. This is dangerous. I think Ford should fix it since apparently they have approved a recall on other models that apparently have the same camera system as my car.
I turned left after stopping at a four-way stop sign intersection. I crashed into a parked car waiting its turn but I did not see until I was upon it and it was too late to swerve away. My car's air bags inflated. My wrist was broken. My car was declared totaled by my insurer although I could not have been speeding since I had just stopped at the four-way stop sign, waited my turn, and turned my car left onto a street that runs slightly downhill. I am still trying to comprehend how my wrist on my right hand was broken since both of my hands were on the steering wheel at the point of impact but a trip to the emergency room proved my suddenly limp and suddenly pain-filled arm meant I had broken my wrist. It is not the first time I have been in my 2016 Ford Taurus and not noticed a car until it was close upon me-- typically though a car(s) has approached me from my rear right and I noticed it in a split second and avoided an accident; but this is my first collision accident in decades. I need to point that fact out. I don't know if the car has a blind spot. I don't know if the air bag broke my wrist. I don't know why my wrist was broken because both of my hands were on the steering wheel during my collision on May 9, 2022. There were not any warning messages that I recall seeing or hearing. My insurer acquired right of attorney over my vehicle and towed it away. To my knowledge, no one has inspected the car but I suspect there are actually several blind spots in the 2016 Ford Ta
Smell of gas inside and outside of 2016 Ford Taurus while driving and while not driving. Dealer hasn't done anything to correct the problem despite consumer's on going requests both at the dealership and corporate executive level. All ford did was to take $248.42 from consumer on 12/22/21 for allegedly cleaning fuel injectors, intake manifold, ports and combustion chamber which should have been covered by the 7 year warranty which consumer purchased from dealer on 5/20/16 when vehicle was. Dealer refused to cover this defect under the warranty.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that the front passenger's seat belt was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed that the seat belt system needed to be replaced; however, the part was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
The rear back up camera has stopped working properly and most of the time it's not working at all making it a safety risk maneuvering in reverse when children or other pedestrians are around.
I purchased the car a week ago from a dealership and sadly that the car was as is. At the time nothing was wrong with the car, and 2 days later after the car APIM system started malfunctioning, I restarted the system and that did not work. I took to a dealership and they did the same thing I did and it is still the same. Dealership stated it could be the APIM malfunctioning on the car and it was going to cost me $900 to get it fixed. I haven't had the car for a week and things are already going bad. No warning light appeared before the incident happened and nobody was hurt.
WATER PUMP FAILURE AT 56.965 MILES AND GEAR OIL LEAK
AFTER DRIVING FOR BETWEEN 50 AND 100 MILES WHEN I STOP AND BEFORE I PUT IT IN PARK THE ENGINE ACCELERATES WITHOUT PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR I HAVE TO PUT IN PARK HOLDING THE BRAKE AFTER A SECOND OR TWO IT GOES BACK TO IDLE
THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE FAILED, RENDERING THE VEHICLE UNABLE TO START, STEER, OR BRAKE PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED BUT NOT MOVING. IT STALLED AND WAS UNABLE TO START AGAIN. I KNOW THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR EARLIER MODELS OF THE SAME VEHICLE. I HAVE REPAIR INVOICES, BUT AM CURRENTLY UNABLE TO UPLOAD THEM TO THE WEBSITE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL EACH TIME IT WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHEN ACCELERATED AND THEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE LOUD NOISE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS DIAGNOSED BUT COULD NOT FINE A FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT IT COULD PROBABLY BE THE SUSPENSION. I TOOK MY CAR TO DEAN SELLERS FORD WITH A PREMATURE RIGHT REAR BEARING FAILURE THAT WAS COVERED BY THE WARRANTY ON MY 2016 TAURUS SHO. WHILE AT THE DEALER, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE TOE REAR TOE LINK REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. ON JUNE 12, 2019, FORD MEDIA CENTER ISSUED ISSUE A MEMO "FORD MOTOR COMPANY ISSUES FOUR SAFETY RECALLS" WHICH INDICATED THAT THE "AFFECTED VEHICLES INCLUDE 2010-2017 FORD TAURUS VEHICLES BUILT AT THE CHICAGO ASSEMBLY PLANT, JULY 2, 2009-MAY 25, 2017." THIS INCLUDED MY 2016 TAURUS SHO, BUT THE DEALER HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE RECALL AND HAS NOW CHARGED ME FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE RECALL ITEM. ALSO, I'M CONCERNED THAT THE REPLACEMENT TOE LINK WAS NOT THE HARDENED REPLACEMENT PART AND WAS THE ORIGINAL OEM PART THAT IS PRONE TO FAILURE. THE FAILURE OF THIS PART CAN BE CATASTROPHIC AND CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.
OIL LEAK FROM TURBO LINE, WAS SHOWING RECALL AFFECTED 2016 FORD TAURUS SHO REFERENCE 16S463 BUT WHEN I CALL DEALER AND LOOK UP VIN MY CAR IS NOT SHOWING TO BE INCLUDED. HOWEVER, I KEEP GETTING A BURNING OIL SMELL AND CAR IN SHOP RIGHT NOW AND OIL LINE THAT GOES TO ONE OF THE TURBO CHARGES IS LEAKING AND FIRE HAZARD. *TR
I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN. EVERY PROBLEM YOU COULD IMAGINE WITH THIS CAR ONLY AY 69K MILES AFTER FORDS PATHETIC POWERTRIAN WARRANTY EXPIRES. I BOUGHT THIS CAR AT 66K MILES SPENT 20 GRAND AFTER TAX AND ONLY MADE ONE PAYMENT BESIDES THE DOWN PAYMENT. FIRST OFF THE PTU FAILED ON THIS VEHICLE FAILED AFTER 2K MILES WITCH IS A REALLY COMMON PROBLEM ON THIS VEHICLE WITCH WAS A $900 PART THOUGH FORD. HAD THIS REPLACED AND NOT ONLY 7 DAYS LATER AND BARELY 1K MILES THE TRANSMISSION FAILED CAUSING THE MOTOR TO OVERHEAT DAMAGING THE MOTOR.. NOW I HAVE A $400+ PAYMENT ON A VEHICLE THAT NEEDS OVER $9000 IN REPAIRS BETWEEN THE MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION AND THE DEALER WONT FIX IT BECAUSE I DIDNT BUY AND EXTENDED WARRANTY AND ITS OUT OF THE FACTORY 60K WARRANTY. NOTE THIS IS A 2016 (PERFORMANCE SEDAN) (SHO) AND THIS HAS BEEN THE MOST UNRELIABLE CAR I HAVE EVER BOUGHT. I WOULD LIKE TO NOTE I ALWAYS BUY FORD AND HAVE HAD ISSUES HERE AND THERE BUT NOTHING LIKE THIS BETWEEN BREAK DOWNS I DIDN'T EVEN GET TO DRIVE THE CAR 30 DAYS AND NOW OWN 6 YEARS WORTH OF PAYMENTS... THKS CAR HAS LITERALLY BROKE ME AND FORD WON'T DO ANYTHING TO MAKE IT RIGHT THERE WAS CLEARLY SOME SORT OF MANUFACTURE DEFECT WITH THIS CAR AND IT SHOULD BE RECALLED I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND BUY THIS CAR WITHOUT A SERIOUS WARRANTY BECAUSE I KNOW SOME PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD BETTER LUCK WITH THIS CAR IN EARLIER MODELS WITH THE SAME DRIVETRAIN BUT MINE CAN'T BE THE ONLY 16 SHO THAT HAVE HAD THESE PROBLEMS AND IM SURE OTHER PEOPLE HAVE
I WAS APPROACHING A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION AND WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES THE CAR ACTUALLY ACCELERATED. I WAS ABLE TO STOP BEFORE HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I PROCEEDED ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD AND AS I WAS TURNING INTO A STRIP MALL THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AGAIN. THIS TIME OUT OF CONTROL. I WHEN THROUGH THE TURN AND HIT A LARGE CURB AND THEN RAN INTO THE GUARD RAIL. I RIPPED THE GUARD RAIL OFF AND STILL PROCEEDED FOR AN ADDITIONAL 150 FEET ON THE GRASS BEFORE THE VEHICLE FINALLY CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. IT SCARED THE HELL OUT OF ME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE COMPUTER DID NOT RECOGNIZE THE KEY FOB AND THE "NO KEY DETECTED" INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SEVERAL DEALERS, INCLUDING AUTONATION FORD BURLESON (817-522-3224, LOCATED AT 850 NORTH BURLESON BOULEVARD, BURLESON, TX 76028) WHERE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REQUESTED THAT THE CONTACT RECORD THE FAILURE. THE VIDEO WAS NOT SENT AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 15,000.
DEALERSHIP HAS IDENTIFIED THE REARS BRAKES ARE IN 3MM OR LESS ON THIS VEHICLE WHICH SHOULD BE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE ON A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM THAT HAS 5MM OR GREATER ON THE FRONT PADS.
THE POWER STEERING ON THIS VEHICLE LOCKED UP MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED AT LOW SPEEDS BUT IF IT HAD HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THEIR WOULD HAVE BEEN NO WAY TO STEER THE VEHICLE SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.
THE POWER STEERING ON THIS UNIT FAILED MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. I WAS ADVISED THAT THIS ISSUED OCCURRED AT LOW SPEEDS AND AS A RESULT NO ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. DO NOT HAVE THE INVOICE FOR THIS REPAIR AT THE TIME OF SENDING THIS COMPLAINT. IF YOU NEED IT I WILL GET IT FOR YOU.
DURING SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN FOUND CRACKED COOLANT TANK. CONSISTENT PROBLEM ON 2016 TAURUS AND EXPLORER. CRACKED COOLANT TANK PRESENTS RISK OF FIRE, SKIN BURNS, ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT SHORTS AND PREMATURE ENGINE FAILURE.
THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE DOOR KEEPS SLIPPING OUT OF PLACE. THE DOOR HAS DIFFICULTIES OPENING AS IT CATCHES AGAINST THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AND MAKES A SNAPPING SOUND. THE DOOR HAS ALREADY BEEN FIXED TWICE BY THE DEALERSHIP BUT WE WERE INFORMED THAT THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM WITH THE NEWER VEHICLES AND THEY DIDN'T THINK THIS WOULD BE RESOLVED. MAY LAW ENFORCEMENT VEHICLES HAVE BEEN AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND THE LADY WHO WORKS AT FORD SAID THEY HAVE HAD TO FIX A LOT OF VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT COVER THE COST OF FIXING THE DOOR GOING FORWARD AS WE HAVE HAD THE CAR MORE THAN A YEAR. I CALLED FORD TO REPORT THE ISSUE AND MY CONCERN OVER THE ABILITY TO GET MY SON OUT OF THE BACK SEAT IN A CASE OF EMERGENCY. I ASKED THEM TO NOTE A RECALL AND ALL I GOT BACK WAS AN EMAIL STATING THEY WILL NOT COVER THE COST OF THE FIX. THEY NEVER ADDRESSED MY CONCERN ABOUT SAFETY AND THE ABILITY OF THE DOOR TO FUNCTION. THE DOOR HAS NOT EXPERIENCED ANY STRESS AND ONLY NORMAL OPEN AND SHUT. THERE HAS BEEN NO ACCIDENTS BUT THE DOOR KEEPS SLIPPING OUT OF ALIGNMENT. THE VEHICLE WENT INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE CORRECTED MARCH 21 AND APRIL 11TH.
ON JULY 27 WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HWY AT 75 THE CAR SHUT OFF MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND IT SCARED THE H OUT OF HER AND ME I TOOK IT OUT OF DRIVE AND TRIED TO START IT ,I TRIED THREE TIME FINALLY IT STARTED. NO TROUBLE TILL YESTERDAY AT THE AIRPORT GOING UP THE PARKING RAMP IT QUIT AGAIN I WAS DRIVING I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE CAUSE WE WERE GOING UP HILL AND TRIED TO START IT TOOK THREE TIMES AND IT STARTED UP AGAIN .WE DROVE HOME 100 MILES NO TROUBLE. I AM TAKING IT IN TOMORROW TO THE DEALER. JUST THOUGHT I NEEDED TO TELL SOMEONE. I CASE SOMETHING EVER HAPPENED TO US . CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I CAN DO IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN I AM GONNA SELL THE CAR !!
I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DUE TO A STRONG SMELL OF PROPANE/NATURAL GAS. THE SERVICE WRITER INFORMED ME THAT THE SMELL WAS REALLY BAD BUT THAT IT SHOULD BE SAFE TO DRIVE AND THAT SHE COULDN'T GET ME IN UNTIL TUESDAY. I BUCKLED MY 2 YEAR OLD IN THE CAR SEAT AND LEFT THE DEALERSHIP/SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THE SERVICE WRITE STATED THAT THERE WAS A TSB OUT ON THE CAR AND IT COULD BE A POSSIBLE LEAK IN THE PTU. BUT SHOULD BE THAT BIG OF DEAL. WE STARTED TO TRAVEL HOME THE CAR STALLED, ON A HIGHWAY TRAVELING AT ABOUT 60 MILES PER HOUR, AND THERE WAS A LOUD POP, I WAS ON THE PHONE WITH MY SISTER WHO WAS TRAVELING BEHIND US WHO TOLD ME THAT MY CAR WAS ON FIRE AND TO PULL OVER. I STOPPED THE CAR, WHEN I WAS STOPPED THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR FILLED WITH SMOKE I RUSHED TO GET MY CHILD OUT OF THE CAR AND MOVED AWAY FROM THE CAR. I DIDN'T SEE ANY FLAMES JUST A LOT OF SMOKE. I FEEL WE WERE LUCKY BECAUSE MY SISTER WAS ABLE TO INFORM ME IMMEDIATELY THAT THERE WAS SMOKE. I FEEL THAT IF I WOULD HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR MUCH FURTHER THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH DIFFERENT.
THE HEADLIGHTS ARE DESIGNED SUCH THAT YOU CANNOT SEE CORNERS WHEN MAKING TURNS. I BELIEVE THIS IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS. WHEN DRIVING ON DARK ROADS, YOU TRULY CANNOT SEE WHAT YOU ARE TURNING INTO UNTIL YOU MAKE THE TURN. THIS WAS DISCUSSED WITH THE DEALER AND IT APPEARS THE DEALER AND FORD ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HAVE REDESIGN HEADLIGHTS FOR SOME OF THE VEHICLES THAT HAVE THIS ISSUE. HOWEVER, IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THEY HAVE NO INTENTIONS OF CORRECT THIS ON CARS ALREADY ON THE ROAD. *TR
THIS NEW 2016 TAURUS SHO HAS A STRONG FUEL, OIL OR CARBON MONOXIDE FUMES ENTERING THE CABIN WHILE DRIVING. THIS OCCURS WITH OR WITHOUT THE AC RUNNING. THE FUMES ARE SO STRONG THAT I MUST DRIVE WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN. OF COURSE, WHEN IT IS RAINING, I MUST BREATHE IN THE FUMES BECAUSE THE WINDOWS ARE ROLLED UP. SO FAR, IT IS CAUSING IRRITATION TO THE EYES AND THROAT. I TOOK IT TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR BUT THEY SAID THEY "COULD NOT DUPLICATE" THE FUEL SMELL AND THAT IT IS PROBABLY JUST NEW CAR OR PLASTIC SMELL. I ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE FUEL DELIVERY MODULE BUT THEY DID NOT DO SO. THIS IS A DRIVEABILITY ISSUE WHICH SHOULD NOT EXIST IN A NEW CAR. EMISSIONS INTO THE CABIN SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHECKED PRIOR TO DELIVERY AND SALE GIVEN THE PRIOR FORD RECALLS AND TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM ON THIS MODEL.
UPON HARD ACCELERATION, CABIN IS FILLED WITH STRONG ROTTEN EGG SMELL / EXHAUST. AC IS IN THE AUTO MODE AND RECIRCULATION IS NOT ENGAGED. MUST ROLL ALL WINDOWS DOWN IN ORDER TO CLEAR THE CABIN OF FUMES. VERY SIMILAR TO SAME ISSUE DESCRIBED WITH FORD EXPLORER. INCIDENCE FIRST OCCURRED MAY 13, 2016 (DATE OF DELIVERY) AND HAS HAPPENED CONSISTENTLY UPON HARD ACCELERATION. CURRENTLY, VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 10000 MILES AND CONTINUING TO HAVE ISSUE. VEHICLE IS AT DEALERSHIP CURRENTLY.
PROBLEMS OCCURRED 2X - 07/16TH AND 07/18/2016 - WHILE TRAVEL AT HIGHWAY SPEED, 70MPH, ACCELERATION CEASED - CHECK ENGINE, AIRBAG AND SERVICE LIGHTS CAME ON, HAVE TO PULL OVER, SHUT-OFF THE ENGINE, RESTART, DRIVE FOR 1 MORE PROBLEMS REOCCUR AGAIN. DROVE THE VEHICLE TO FORD DEALER WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINS. VEHICLES WAS PURCHASED 04/15/2016 HAD 216 MILES ON THE TITLE...CURRENTLY HAS 9,650 MILES.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
