2023 Ford Mustang Mach E complaints

The vehicle sends an alert “STOP SAFELY NOW” and starts jerking and shutting down. I have reported to Ford and me local dealership. No one seems to have an explanation as to why this is happening. It doesn’t register in the vehicle logs as an alert. I’m afraid one day I won’t have the ability to pull over. Mt vehicle is a 2023 AWD SELECT MACH E.

On [XXX], I acquired the vehicle with an initial estimate of 6 miles on it. However, within just 1.5 days of ownership, I encountered a significant issue that has left my family and me in a state of distress. On [XXX], while heading into DC for a holiday event at Nationals Stadium with my husband and three small children, the car suddenly displayed a warning message urging me to "Stop Safely Now” with a turtle on it. Subsequently, the vehicle became unresponsive, leaving us stranded on a bridge with no shoulder. With limited knowledge of the car's functions, we attempted to troubleshoot, but to no avail. This is our first time ever going into DC. Given the urgency of the situation and the safety of my family, we called for a tow truck, which took an extended 1.5-2 hours to locate us due to the challenging location on the bridge. We even sought assistance from the local police to ensure our safety while waiting for the tow truck. Once at the charging station, our efforts to resolve the issue were in vain. Adding to our predicament, we found ourselves unable to access the vehicle, leaving us exposed to the elements on a [XXX]. With no other viable options, we had to call for a second tow truck, resulting in additional expenses. As of January 17, the car has been at the dealership since December 24, and we have yet to receive any updates on the resolution or an estimated time of completion. After a few days in garage attempted to drive out where first upon engaging drive selection, releasing brake pedal, and slight throttle, a clunk and jerk launch occurred. With each subsequent wheel rotation there was a scraping sound synchronized with a torque dip in the propulsion. drove 1-2 blocks up street up to ~5 MPH and this symptom followed exact with speed. Stopped car, tried reverse a block, same thing, surging like propulsion with apparent torque dips in sync with speed. Repeated in drive, then reverse a few times, then parked back in garage to be towed into dealer. I put masking tape on steering wheel AND on Windshield saying not to drive over 2MPH to witness the symptoms. Upon receipt at dealer, was told symptom was then repeated, therefore car would be held for a while as it would need to be torn down and analyzed to find the cause. After 3 weeks, told not yet finding the cause, we discussed possibility of brakes where they agreed and was to pull them apart to inspect. Never did. Now 4 weeks later, still at dealer, telling me they cannot repeat the effect but that drove it around. I told speed may have wiped it away, this 2nd time it was towed in for this. I consider this a safety / drivability issue and want it noted, (And fixed of course).

When driving, sometimes a “Drive Mode Unavailable” message comes up on the infotainment. Drive modes in the MachE contribute to deceleration, one pedal driving, and throttle mapping, and switching abruptly from one to another without input from the driver is a safety issue as it can instantaneously change the deceleration or acceleration rate of the vehicle. This is a known bug that’s been around for years and still no fix for it.

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, a MIL warning illuminated, with the message “Immediate Loss of Power” displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle shut off and the battery was drained. The contact stated that the vehicle stopped and independently shifted to park(P). The contact stated that the hazard lights were not able to be activated. The contact towed the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the high voltage battery contact had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V687000 (Electrical System). The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.

The vehicle regularly, and at random times, will drop out of the chosen drive setting and go to the default "Engage" mid-level setting. This changes the driving dynamics, such as pedal pressure required to move the car, and the sensitivity of the steering. If the driver was in "Unbridle", for example, the car will immediately lose speed and steering sensitivity, while if the driver was in "Whisper", the car will lurch forward. This has happened at city speeds, highway speeds, and even while at a stop in a line of cars. The stop is especially dangerous, as 1-pedal drivers would expect the car to be fully stopped, but it still lurches forward towards people or other cars. Temperature of the engine and battery does not seem to be a factor, as this happens in all conditions. It appears to be a dangerous software error.

I have attached a letter to this email that ford recently sent me for my 2023 and 2022 mustang mach e. The one attached here is for the 2023 one. Supposedly software is supposed to fix a burning or melting of the charge port pins. I am not sure one of my cars looks like it may be arched but this letter from ford is ridiculous. I request a recall to inspect all charge port pins in all 2023 and 2022 mustang mach e's. I also request since ford is known for trying to use software to update electrical parts that may arc (I.E the battery control module) that a separate investigation be opened to this matter. There is currently no recall for this and I have a concern for both my vehicles now if arching can take place. Furthermore I have had two charging cables burn up on my 2022 mustang mach e Vin number [XXX] but thats besides the point. Point is there is no recall to something that software not installed that doesn't have a transfer function that predicts the charging port pin/terminal temperature. This seems like basic engineer electronics that should have been designed from the beginning to do this. With all the electrical issues these cars have I also question the entire design. More questions to follow are is this software not being installed on my car damaging my charging cable? (I.e why i had two get fried already and possibly have a third i just have not had time to take the third cable in yet) Also why are we not getting our cars inspected in a recall? My vehicle lost power when I was accelerating onto a highway. The car would not go over 35 mph all the way home. There was no warning light until after I attempted to accelerate and was not able to. Ford is saying it’s only 2022 models, but I have a 2023.

Tread cracking on front PZero 245 45 20 tires at 7k miles/ 9 months

While going through the car wash the cover, that covers the charging port opened. The plunger that locks the cover in place was broken off. I contacted Ford to see if this was something that would be covered under warranty and they stated no. When looking on forums, it is a common issue and the Ford representative suggested that I place “painters tape” over the cover when using a car wash. There is no guidance on this and the manual and no direction to do. This is given when purchasing the vehicle. This creates a major safety hazard as high pressure water and soap can get into the charging port. They were unwilling to provide any support on getting this repaired and stated it was not a manufacture defect.

VIN # [XXX] have turned up is if I start my new 2023 mustang Mach-e at home without anyone in the rear seats. When I pick up children, it does not recognize. They are now in the rear seats i.e. seatbelt warnings. Our children picked up from daycare left in a hot car, so what I’m saying in a nutshell is once I leave the residence with only me in the vehicle, and I add additional passengers the seat monitors do not detect anyone being in the rear seat until the seatbelt is fastened, if the seatbelt is not fastened, it has no clue in the rear of the car which is annoying because it constantly asked me to check the backseat, but it only does this if someone has been in the car when it was started originally before it left its origin destination This is a huge issue and should be reported to the NTSB INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While charging at a DC Fast Charging station, my vehicle reported "High Voltage" Battery problem. So I disconnected from the charger and started driving home. While driving I got “Stop Safely Now” message on the dashboard. I could hardly pull over to the shoulder. The car immediately went dead as soon as I stopped. I was lucky to be on a road with no traffic else this could have been a disaster.

Driving approaching a corner and suddenly the vehicle showed on screen "Stop Safely Now" coasting to a stop. Only 180 miles on car. 78 percent charge. 230 miles to empty. Once in Park couldn't move out of park. Ford towing service indicated 3 hours out. Stuck on corner in traffic at intersection in my mind a dangerous situation.

During rapid deceleration from ~35mph to <5mph the contents of the frunk (front trunk) shifted and was able to strike the emergency release button within the frunk causing the hood to open while the vehicle was in motion. At the time the button was pressed various alarms showed on the screen to alert the driver to pull over which could not be done safely based on the current road conditions. The design of the emergency release button is deficient in preventing inadvertent opening of the frunk while the vehicle is in motion. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer and they have indicated that all systems are working as intended.

The contact then stated that a message displayed on the instrument panel “High Voltage Battery warning and to Contact Roadside Assistance” and “Powertrain Malfunction - Reduced Power”. The contact stated that the vehicle decelerated and failed to accelerate while the accelerator pedal was depressed. Limited Power was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,317.

The car came to an abrupt stop and wouldn’t start up again. This happened three times. First time, I was at a charging station. Second time it happened in middle of the road while driving. It Put the safety of my family and me at danger. I had to call 911 to help manage busy traffic around me and towing service to take the car to dealership/service. The ford service center told me car was fixed - they had the car for 10 days before returning it to me. Two weeks and ~200 miles later the same thing happened yet again. My wife and child were stranded in middle of traffic. I am just thankful they were able to avoid collisions with other vehicles. The car has been back in the ship for another 24days and counting. Online forums indicate that my issue is not isolated. Ford has yet to comment or address my issue directly. Imagine the car coming to a full stop in the middle of a busy interstate highway!!

Vehicle suddenly lost power with a warning on the dashboard (service vehicle soon). The component ended up being a high voltage battery junction box (HVBJB) which was replaced by the dealer under warranty. This is a known issue reported on widely on forums such as macheforum.com

The HVBJB subassembly in ALL Ford Mach-e vehicles has known defects with 'under-designed' main contactors that are known to fail under normal charging and driving conditions as outlined in current open Ford recall notice for my vehicle 22s41. Unfortunately, the internal damage to contactors is not visible externally, and warning notices on display only after damage has occurred, and can result in sudden loss of propulsion power at highway speed, loss of power steering, and power brakes... and failure of other 12v systems due to failure to charge the 12v battery properly after contactors are damaged. Less catastrophic results can include failure to start; which can 'strand' driver's and passengers in remote areas, bad weather conditions, as well as cause loss of use for weeks due to delays in replacement parts and local Dealerships needing equipment and training to effect removal/replacement of faulty unit with a new HVBJB having re-designed 'beefier' components.​ ​ My complaint is that Ford's recall notice 22s41 is a software-only attempt to prevent future damage, and does not require removal of the part(s) which are KNOWN TO FAIL to be replaced with the re-designed components which are available, and have been used to repair failures under warranty. I have no way of inspecting the original equipment to evaluate current condition; and failure can result in sudden and unexpected loss of power, steering, and braking as well as potentially 'stranding me' in unsafe conditions una

2 days after ownership the vehicle shutdown and went into limp mode with a picture of a turtle and battery icon in middle of road with traffic, apple valley ford replaced the 12v battery and that solved the issue, today 3 days later same issue! Stuck in the road, ev battery charged to 90%

I took car a month ago and it stops between the road..saying STOP SAFELY NOW and than i am unable to move my car, it happened thrice, last time it stopped on the road and cop had to call roadside assistance so i contacted my dealer on 10 Aug about this issue, they diagnose the problem and re run test some test and recycled the system, now again today on 14 August, it got stopped in middle of traffic and the crash was about to happen, i was lucky that my life got saved or else it would be a major accident, so i went again to my dealer and explained everything now they are again gonna re run those test, but it's becoming a life threatening issue for me to drive this car, so please i need help for it. Purchased New on 7/4/23. Failure #1 7/14/23 - Pre Collision Assist Failure fault, Air bag electrical issue air system may not function, Powertrain Malfunction Fault, Restraints control module not configured. Failure #2 8/4/23 - Pre Collision Assist Failure fault, Air bag electrical issue air system may not function, Powertrain Malfunction Fault, Restraints control module not configured. Failure #3 8/8/23 - Pre Collision Assist Failure fault, Air bag electrical issue air system may not function, Powertrain Malfunction Fault, Restraints control module not configured. Failure #4 - Pre Collision Assist Failure fault, Air bag electrical issue air system may not function, Powertrain Malfunction Fault, Restraints control module not configured. All 4 occasions the service lights illuminated on the dash and power to the vehicle was reduced significantly. Took to the Dealer (David Wilson Villa Ford, Orange CA) on 8/9/23 - They indicated they could not replicate and there was no repair to make. Contacted Ford and they were unresponsive.

When the car was started, the center console screen froze. During that time, the backup camera did not display when the car is in reverse. It has happened several times. It's a safety issue when the backup camera does not work.

On Saturday July 15, 2023 my family and I were in the car going grocery shopping. By time I reached the grocery store a warning came up on the screen that stated brake fluid low. When I arrived home I did not have any brakes. The vehicle was towed the dealer where it was purchased. I was told that the brake caliper were faulty and their is only one mechanic that is allowed to work on electric vehicles.

Additionally, the contact stated that the brake pedal floored while depressed, and the vehicle failed to stop immediately. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who informed the contact that the calipers had failed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 237.

After backing out of the driveway, our Mach-e started accelerating without putting my foot on the accelerator. Car literally was just getting faster and faster without me doing anything. When I did press the accelerator after the stop sign to the entrance to our neighborhood, nothing happened and the car just rolled forward. Took my foot off the right pedal and it started accelerating again. Got out to the main road, had to pull over, and rode the brake back home. In short, the car accelerates without pressing the accelerator.

I have 2023 Ford EV and my son also have 2022 Ford EV, too. We are living in the same house. All Ford mobile chargers with 240V do not work properly. It is supposed to charge at 7KWh but it drops 3Khw after few minutes charge. I switched to new Ford mobile charge, but it is faulty, too. Ford says its overheating issue but it happens during the winter season, too. I am concerning it might have faulty electric design and cause the fire at home. I checked the Ford Mach-e Forum, many of them have same problems.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Often when the car is started, the center console screen freezes. When it is in the frozen state the backup camera does not work despite the vehicle reversing. I have video if this event occurring. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? While reversing, driver is unable to see hazards (such as pedestrians or other cars) in the back clearly. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I am not sure. The dealer verbally confirmed they could reproduce the issue, but has not provided written documentation of this. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? The symptoms are visible: frozen center console screen This problem is intermittent, but happens several times per week.

The car is accelerating by his own, without having the cruise control on and this happened a couple times, mostly after a full stop on a red light, until you don’t make a manual full emergency break it won’t stop. It can cause death if it accelerate it by his own, also couple times the front camera has a fall out and he’s warning the pre collision even no car is in front of you

After disengaging adaptive cruise control, the car electrical system shutdown and the vehicle began losing speed until it came to a complete stop after which the gear shifter became lock and would not unlock until a jump was provided to the 12v battery.
