I was driving on the interstate when smoke started from the rear of my car and the engine started sputtering. the vehicle started to slow down in heavy traffic. I was caught in the traffic and could not get off the road, the temperature gauge suddenly moved to the red on the gauge and I could not see the back of my vehicle making it dangerous to pull off the interstate. II had my grandsons with me making this worse. I had the car towed to my fathers garage where he then did a compression test on all four cylinders and found #4 cylinder to be very low reading compared to the other 3 cylinders as well as a pressure test of the radiator which showed a large leak off. I had no warning or messages when this happened

The trunk randomly pops open at random times. From the vehicle to being parked or driving down the highway. Multiple mechanics as well as Ford have stated they are unable to locate any problems. Once it is popped it takes 30-45 seconds for the clipping to stop before the trunk will close again. Often it will immediately re open and I have to go through this cycle 3-4 times before it stays closed until the next incident

Ford states the Power Bushing previously recalled was replaced in 2021 in my vehicle. Their replacement failed today and left me unable to safely put my car in park. While I was looking under the hood to see why it wasn't going, the car began to roll forward because I didn't realize it was not safely in park. The replacement for the recall failed and had disintegrated. Previous recall 18S20. The dealership would not replace it because it was not an open recall and after calling customer support they let us know their records showed it had been replaced. There was not protective service cap added during this "fix".
2016 Fusion Titanium has the 2.0L Ecoboost engine with the coolant intrusion issue. This is a known issue with both Ford and the NHTSA, but after being diagnosed by a ford dealership, Ford Motor Co. will not provide any assist because it is not listed on any TSB or does not have an active recall. The models that are listed are the Edge, Focus, MKZ, and the Fusion, but Fusion models start at 2017 on the TSB. This is not accurate information because the exact same engine that is used in the Focus/Edge models and year range is used in the 2016 Fusion.

The car started to jerk as I was driving. Sometimes it's OK other times it starts when I accelerate like it goes out of gear came on. I did try to take it to AutoZone with the light had already gone off. I also took it diagnostic. they said that I could Transmission control module issue. I change my battery voltage. Immediately battery this resolved the problem for about 30 minutes and then the process started over again. Insecure driving this vehicle at this point I have read online. This is an issue 2016 Ford fusion I need help .

There is a " design flaw" with the vehicle where coolant leaks into the cylinder heads and you have to replace the whole engine. I have read about it in the Internet when my check engine light came on and gave me cylinder 2 misfire code.I started the car and the check engine light was off. I tried to get to work that morning and the car shut off on the middle of Interstate 81 with no warning. It was a very dangerous situation where I got stuck until it came to a complete stop and turn it back on. White smoke poured out of the tail pipe, I went home. I spoke with a Ford representative who said it is a design flaw in this engine and the whole thing needs to be replaced, with engines starting at $5,000 plus 4 days labor. He advised that the problem could happen again with the replacement. I know there is nothing you guys can do but my car died in 2 days.i have a $20,000 to pay off and only had this car a year and I am going to have to give it back and keep paying for it, for 5* years. I feel so upset and cannot believe Ford is doing this to people and getting away with it. This ruined my life and I will probably lose my job now cause I have no means of transportation. This needs to be recalled! It's not right
Coolant leaked into a cylinder due to a failed head gasket at 61,000 miles. Ford replaced head gasket, but the issue is due to poorly manufactured engine, and I had the same issue starting again at 99,000 miles. Ford refuses to fix engine since it is out of warranty, but the issue is due to poor manufacturing, not customer negligence.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated with the engine overheated message displayed. The contact pulled over to allow the engine to cool down. The vehicle was drivable. The contact was constantly adding coolant to the coolant reservoir and the engine overheating message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with an internal coolant leak in the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V209000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Component failure: Engine -- Catastrophic engine failure due to coolant leakage onto the engine block. EcoBoost engine. Dealership confirmation that car engine will need full replacement - car essentially scrap metal without new engine. At the time of this failure car had approximately 40,000 miles odometer read total on it and maintenance was up to date. Personal safety - I was driving the car on a Freeway with other vehicles at approximately 65 mph and the entire car began to shudder and I lost the ability to accelerate. The road was on an uphill trajectory and I was in the middle lane - I had to navigate my vehicle to the right hand lane and off the freeway at the next exit - I and others were at high risk of a collision due to the severity and sudden failure of the engine while on a busy road. Dealer confirmation: Dealership had specific codes on the diagnostics decribing this issue. Repair offered was replacement of the long block with a Ford engine that had been modified to fix the coolant leakage problem. Essentially Ford was offering a new TYPE of engine instead of a fix with the same model the car originally had. Dealership was aware of this engine coolant issue with Ecoboost, they revealed Ford was aware of the issue but never issued a recall. We were given the customer complaint line and were told FORD has been offering SOME people new engines at no cost. We were rejected by Ford customer line and told to file a complaint here. Essentially described by dealership r
Loss of power steering and multiple codes light up on dash about an hour prior to loss. Experienced a slow escalation of having difficultly steering of approx 1-2 days where steering did not seem as responsive. Was able to return home, but upon restart i had no power steering steering and multiple diagnostics failure lights coming on [Steering Loss Stop Safety, Service Advance Trac, Hill Start assist not available]. This currently is in a state of not being able to drive. Losing power steering assist puts safety at jeopardy at any speed to not allow for any fine movement or directional control. If this happened at any rate of speed this is a concern. It being the weekend I will need to discuss with my local mechanic as well as local dealership on course of action. I have tried to restart several times with the warnings and still lack of steering
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the engine started overheating, and the coolant level dropped significantly. The contact stated that there was a sloshing sound inside the cabin of the vehicle, coming from under the dashboard. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with a coolant intrusion into the combustion chamber. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.
The ABS System light , The traction off and on at the same time, the advanced track light, and finally the tire pressure monitor fault I belive is what it says. The lights came on one day when I crossed over railroad tracks that were a little rough nothing that should damage anything on a vehicle. one after another the lights began coming on. The steering is very tight and makes it hard to drive. When I go over bumps or any uneveness in the roadway the car will shift making the steering wheel jerk and the car to swerve. When you push on the brakes at times it feels like they are skipping and making a weird skipping sound as well. I thought it was needing the brakes so I got all for sides new brakes and rotors. That did not help either. I had a diagnostic scan done the car but it did not pick up anything but an h20 sensor so I got that repaired. I don't know why this is happening and I'm a single mother/grandmother. I cannot afford to spend a lot of money trying to fix these issues.
My car has about 120k miles on it. The issue is that the coolant leakes into the cylinders. Tried replacing cylinders but problem came back. Dealership says the engine needs repair. The safety issue I had was I was driving on the hwy at about 60. The car suddenly went from 60 to 30. If a car had been behind me I would have been hurt. The manufacturer ford will not pay. I have seen many of this exact same issues on your website. This IS a safety issue. What can you do?
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine over heated and the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed with a blown head gasket due to coolant intrusion into the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.
While traveling at a high rate of speed of 75 mph, on the highway, my brakes failed, the brake pedal was pushed to the floor. The car was hesitant to shift/accelerate. Upon trying to get some type of braking remedy i almost crashed from off the bridge that i was trying to merge on to. upon trying to stop the car i went up a small grade which brought the car to a stop with the emergency brake on. While out of the vehicle the back, driver side caliber caught flame with bluish and greenish flames from the brake fluid coming out, being the metal was at an extreme temperature. I thankfully had my children's drinks/slushies in the car to throw on the flame to stop the spread and to put the flames out. I had to call for a tow truck to get myself and children off the side of the highway. After a $172.98 bill, the car was towed home. I contacted the dealership, which was then told i was responsible to pay and have it towed yet again to the dealerships lot. I have contacted the ford manufacture customer service line, dealership and the number for the recall notice multiple times to get my car fixed and have yet to receive adequate help in doing so.
My ecoboost Ford Engine in my 2016 Fusion leaks coolant into my 1, 3 and 4 cylinders, over heated, smoke coming out of exhaust, using coolant. I took it to the Ford dealer to have it checked out when all of a sudden while driving the red temp light went off and my check engine light started blinking with a warning light saying critical temperature and I had to pull off side of highway, they said it needs a new motor, he also said it was common for this size engine to have issues, Ford had been dealing with that it was a design flaw............yet they won't fix it free or recall it. they want $8500 for a new engine, which I can't afford, so a car I own and owe on just sits undriveable. He said they offered an extended warranty to replace the short block on 2017 -2019 but mine is 2016 so no extra help was given to people who owned that year, even though its the same engine, flaws and all.
When audio system is turned on or volume is turned on, loud cracking booming and static noise comes through at random moments. More noise occurs while driving 55+ but still occurs when idiling. The audio occurrence has almost caused several accidents since its loud ear piercing noises that comes from speakers. I have taken it to the ford technician to no avail. Due to other forums this is a issue with most fusions. The noises started occurring after my back up camera was replaced.

My drivers side door will not latch closed due to cracking from extreme heat. When I try and shut my door it doesn't latch and pops open.
Coolant leaking into engine, causing low engine coolant levels, and affecting performance. Ongoing problem for a while, officially diagnosed on 6/21/2024.
While driving to pick up my wife from work, I was not able to accelerate past 35-40 mph. Upon arriving home, we noticed that the brake lights were staying on. We took the car to our local Ford dealer and was told it was a stop lamp switch pad that had broken off and that, unfortunately, the pad was not sold separately, I would need to purchase the entire brake pedal assembly and pay for the labor to have it installed ($585.11). Shortly after this occurred I found that 2013-2015 models of the Ford Fusion (same body) had been recalled for the same issue. The pad becomes brittle and breaks apart when the car is predominantly in hot and humid climates. I live in Deep South Texas where temperatures and humidity hover around 100 degrees for 10 months a year. I believe other model years should be added to the recall list. Not being able to accelerate could have caused an accident.
On Saturday [XXX] I noticed when I opened my driver side door, the dash light & the light on my touch screen began flickering. I didn't think much about it at the time, but the next day, [XXX] as myself & my wife were traveling on the highway, I tried to turn on my cruise control but it would not come on. I then tried to adjust my stereo volume on the steering wheel & it wasn't working either. Well, the next day I checked the fuses & they were fine, so that's when I went online & found out that the clock spring in the steering wheel could most likely be the problem. Well I decided to dig a little deeper into the matter & I found out that some 2016 Ford trucks had been recalled because of faulty clock springs which also could cause the airbag not to deploy when needed. I was just told by an employee from a local Ford Dealership that the 2016 Ford Fusion was not a part of that recall, which I believe should have been a part of that recall, because I'm pretty sure that the same clock springs that were used in those 2016 trucks, were used in the 2016 Ford Fusions. I would like to ask that you would please look into this mater, because this is a serious mater, & I think Ford needs to fix this problem. They should be responsible for all of their vehicles with these bad clock springs & not just those trucks only. Thank you for your time & all you do to keep us safe on the road. God Bless you all! After the car has been sitting in the sun with the sun shining on the drivers side door, on a warm day, the seatbelt on the driver side cannot not be extracted until the car cools down. This has happened several times. I have talked to the dealer and he says that he has not seen this problem before. I have googled the issue and it appears that I am not the only one who has had this problem. I’ve had to drive several times without using my seatbelt as I cannot use the seatbelt.
I started the vehicle and smelled ash. As I drove away from home at very low speed in my neighborhood, I started to notice white smoke which gradually increased. I immediately parked the car. There was no signs of leaks under the vehicle (but it has extensive underbody covesr). There was moisture and fluid droplets coming from the exhaust pipes. I started the vehicle remotely to view it from the rear and witnessed white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipes, then immediately shut it off. I had it towed to my mechanic who checked the vehicle and noted no issues with the coolant combustion or engine pressure. I had it towed to another shop which replaced the turbo last year, and they checked it for turbo issues. They noted that the engine is dumping coolant into the exhaust system, and that this is an issue know to Ford.

Coolant intrusion into cylinder(s): My vehicle suddenly overheated while I was traveling on a highway that had stretches of ongoing construction and no shoulder. While attempting to reach a portion of the highway with a shoulder, my car went into "limp" mode. I had to shut the vehicle off and wait for it to cool. After about an hour I was able to have someone bring me coolant and I was able to restart my vehicle and get to a safe location. My car continues to overheat whenever I try to accelerate on a highway, leaving me in a position where I am trying to pull my car to the shoulder without causing an accident. There is white smoke coming from my exhaust, my check engine light comes on, and I am losing coolant, although no leaks can be found. My car has ALL symptoms listed under Ford's Technical Service Bulletin 20-2100 issued 01 April 2020 titled "TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 1.5L EcoBoost - Low Coolant, White Exhaust Smoke And/Or Illuminated MIL - Built On Or Before 10-Jun-2019". This intrusion can cause my vehicle to catch on fire! I have had my vehicle evaluated and scanned and am now having to spend over $1,500 to replace the water pump in hopes it alleviates the overheating. Ford is expressly aware of this issue, and I have found that there have been multiple class-action suits filed against Ford for this exact issue.
Started with a check engine code misfire in cylinder 3. Took it to a shop for them to say I needed a new spark plug and coil. Replaced the parts, and still had the code. Kept driving the car and then started having rough idling, white exhaust smoke, and stalling. Upon further research noticed I was missing coolant but the mechanic couldn’t find the leak. Continued driving the car, experiencing trouble accelerating, stalling, and white exhaust smoke. Replaced fuel injectors. Up until one day I went to start the vehicle and it would crank but not turn over. Had it towed to a mechanic who said they couldn’t explain why I had no spark. Then to another mechanic who said I have coolant leaking into my cylinder 3 that will require engine replacement. This is a known issue with fords with the same engine. Addressed ford and they said there was nothing they could do without a recall.
Ford fusion Transmission shifter cable bushing was a recalled part that was replaced in 2019. As of 2024 it failed again and for will not cover the replacement because the recall was already serviced.

There is an Unrepaired Recall associated with my car. The Manufacturer Recall Number is 23S12. The NHTSA Recall Number is 23V162. The https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls website instructed me to file an online complaint if the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner.
The previous 2 models of this car had a recall on the button underneath the brake switch that is engaged by the pedal. They have not changed the design and the 2016 has the very same issue, plus another issue. We were able to replace the button ourselves since they decided not to admit that they did not change these parts even though they knew this was an issue years prior. Not only that, but the holder for the switch is part of the entire pedal assembly and it is the only part of this assembly that is made of plastic. The rest is metal. The problem is that since this is plastic, and it resides where the heat comes out from under the dash, the part becomes brittle and breaks into a million pieces just with normal wear. The pedal assembly is super expensive and you can't even get it out without removing the entire dash. We tried to get a used part and spent half of the day taking the part out only to find that it had done the exact same thing that my daughter's car did. The plastic disintegrates and falls apart. At that point there is no brake switch and the brake lights stay on and the car will decrease speed without warning or won't accelerate. This is something I am pretty sure Ford is well aware of since they recalled part of this defective design years ago. They just didn't admit that the entire thing is designed to fail. It is only a matter of time due to the constant heat that the plastic holder for the brake switch is on. All they had to do was change it to metal and i

Gear shifter was stuck in “Park” and unable to move shifter and change gears. The car was actually in Neutral. There were not warning signals the car was in neutral and could roll away. This puts the driver, passengers, pedestrians, and property at risk of injury/damage. Several recalls have been issued for 2016 Ford Fusions transmission bushings for this exact issue. When I contacted the Ford dealership they stated my VIN number was not impacted by the recall. I had the vehicle towed to my mechanic where the issue was identified as the transmission bushing, which they replaced. I then contacted Ford Motor Company who looked up my VIN and stated my vehicle DID have a recall on the bushing and that the part was replaced in Dec 2019 (prior to me owning the car). The replacement part used to address the recall had the same issue as what it was original part was recalled for.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH and attempting to make a right turn, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact used excessive force to pull to the side of the road and allowed another individual more capable of maneuvering the vehicle without power steering functionality. The vehicle was diagnosed, and the Traction Control and Hill Assist Failure warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 101,000.
This car has a coolant leak failure where coolant has leaked into the engine and showing no signs of a visible leak. This is exactly the same failure mode as all of the ford fusion recalls with the same engine but for whatever reason this VIN was not included in the recall. I have filed a complaint with Ford #02160862 but they state there is nothing they can do. I have reviewed my options with the dealership and they said that Ford doesn’t even offer remanufactured engines for this vehicle because they all experience the same coolant issue. This statement alone shows that Ford is aware of the issue but not doing anything about it. Replacement with a brand new engine quoted at $11k is the only path forward.
As me and my daughter had been out all day on the way home the coolant light comes on it’s overheating so we stop and waited bout 15 minutes started home again same thing happened then the car started misfiring checked coolant it was low put some in then in a couple days coolant was gone again took to shop to look for leak was informed motor was going bad never had issues out car till coolant started leaking looked it up that was one of ford biggest problems with the ford fusion but no recall has been stated for this problem so I would b careful of the coolant systems

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
